Avoid at all costs.......2007-11-10
Should have done the research first...as usual with printers that have way too many cartridges you have to spend high amounts of money to do less print cycles...the lid is useless for a variety of reasons...auto ejects paper constantly when you try to use different sheets for projects. Not as user-friendly as I had read...one customer of mine has the exact same printer and rates it worse than I do...definitely not the HP hype printer I thought it would be.
Photos Are Excellent.... But... Printer needs some tweeking.......2007-06-25
I have had this for 2 months, replaced the much larger HP. Two problems off the bat... doesn't hold enough copier paper in the tray, so I'm constantly refilling it. Also doesn't have a very good paper "stopper" for multiple copies... it literally shoots the copies all over the place, I had 25 pages all over the room!! The paper tray is flimsy. One more thing.. I print on-line postage and use single sheet adhesive sheets, but it doesn't recognize this type of paper, so error message reads "Paper is upside down", so I have to keep feeding the page in until it finally accepts it. Great quality for photo reprints... loved the fact I can reprint my 4 x 6 photos.
Most ridiculous printer ever!.......2007-06-06
This printer is completely nuts. The photo quality is okay, but is SO noisy. It sounds like a machine gun is going off inside it, and it shakes. It also makes really weird loud noises right after it prints something. I just printed a document on fast draft b&w, and it seriously shot the paper 5 feet out of the printer. I am not even exaggerating. I had to pick it up off the floor. It's been like this since I got it. I would not recommend this printer to anyone. I've had much nicer and smoother running printers for less than the cost of this one.
Finally - an "All-in-One" Winner.......2007-05-14
I consider myself a fairly advanced computer user, having been a PC owner since getting my first Apple ][ in 1979. Since that time, I've followed the evolution of every computer technology around. I've been a digital photographer since getting a Nikon Coolpix 950 (1 MP), and a "home photo studio" operator since getting the original HP Photosmart printer. I am both an avid photographer and a demanding "home office" guy, and over the years I have strongly resisted seeking an all-in-one solution, because (a) the price was too high and (b) the products required too many concessions on one end or the other. The HP Photosmart C6150 has finally given me a way to keep printing great photos, while giving me a host of useful "home office" features ... all in one attractive and compact package.
My primary requirement in a Photo printer is, of course, great looking prints. I've had 3 previous HP Photosmart printers, and 2 Epsons. I've generally preferred the output of the HP printers over the years, and I'm more than satisfied with the photo quality output of this printer. The Vivia ink system is supposedly more vibrant and long-lasting than the old HP inks, but truth be told, I saw very little difference in quality on a 4x6 print between the HP7960 and the C6150. The C6150 was noticeably more vibrant on 8x10, not to mention much faster.
The scanning features are great. I'm not sure what the other reviewer was complaining about ... I made "copies" of a few professional prints I have and there was almost no difference whatsoever on 8x10 prints between the source photo and the copy. I was truly, truly amazed. Scanning to Photoshop was simple, and the scan jobs were much more accurate and detailed than what I was getting on my old (but reliable) Epson Perfection 1240U. The auto document feeder provides an easy (albeit fairly slow) way to scan documents up to 50 pages, and my test scans of several all text documents showed the copies to be top notch. Amazingly, the Vivia ink barely smudged when I got it "wet" - very little difference between this and a laser printer.
All in all, I'm fairly impressed with the C6150 after a few days of use. For roughly $250, it's a great investment and a very powerful unit. It manages to meet the needs of home users, small businesses, and photo enthusiasts - not an easy task. Highly recommended.
Problem after problem.......2007-03-16
I purchased this printer at a local BJ's wholesale store. The instructions were clear and easy to read, so set up was a cinch. I immediately began printing wirelessly from my PC and from a memory card inserted directly into the printer. The quality was great and I was impressed with the machine.
That is until I tried scanning or copying, which came out pitch black. After a long time on the phone with HP's support, I was told something was wrong with the mirrors and we could get a refurbished one sent to me. I declined and went back to BJ's and got a new one. I set that one up and discovered that the small color display didn't work on this one. I called HP again and they were unable to fix it and offered the same refurbished deal. Two brand new printers fresh out of the box that are both defective are too much for me. See you later, HP!

caution.......2007-01-22
I've had HP printers for 20 years. This one looks the best of the bunch, but I caution you about one aspect of performance: It is extremely noisy, as the print head is very close to the front of the unit, and whirs back and forth to great distraction when it gears up for a print job, while it is performing it, and for a few moments after the job, as the head repositions or "parks" itself. I was quite disappointed. The build quality of this machine is distinctly lower than that of HP printers of past years (my last one dated to about 2001). On the plus side, it scans well, and has a nice console through which the user interfaces with the machine. I would be interested to know if the equivalent Canon all-in-one with similar form factor is as noisy as this unit. If you are in the market, try to find out.

Amazon.com Review
This multifunction device was selected as best in its class, garnering PC Magazine's Editors' Choice award. The true multifunction capabilities in the Brother MFC-7150C include color printing, color copying, color scanning, and even a form of color PC faxing, along with plain-paper faxing and video image capturing.
Setting up the multifunction unit was time-consuming. We connected the printer cable (included), AC power, and phone line before moving on to the four ink cartridges. (Two of the ink cartridges dripped slightly as we removed their protective tape.) When we turned on our PC, Windows 98 detected the Brother 7150C and ran the New Hardware wizard, but the wizard could not proceed because the 7150C's CD-ROM did not contain printer information in its root directory. Instead, we cancelled the New Hardware wizard and ran the lengthy Setup program on the CD-ROM.
In our tests, we used the MFC-7150C for a variety of printing, copying, and faxing tasks, checking text and graphics in both color and black and white. Colors were remarkably vibrant. Some banding was present on all graphics samples, but this is typical for ink-jet printers. Text was sharp and all edges were straight; however, close inspection of letters revealed tiny imperfections (dots) common to nearly all ink-jet printouts. Finally, using superfine mode, we printed a previously scanned color photograph on coated paper. Although the photo printing process was very slow, the output was warm and rich, with only minor pixelation. Color copying and scanning were similarly slow, and, even in superfine mode, the copies were soft compared to the original.
Still, the 7150C combines more functions than most multifunction units, and its performance is certainly commensurate with its price. For most home and small-office applications, the 7150C is a great low-cost alternative to a separate printer, scanner, and fax machine.
Pros:
- Great software bundle
- Loaded with features
- Includes printer cable and coated paper
Cons:
- Ink tanks difficult to load
- Superfine printing and copying is slow

driver issue.......2002-05-19
The reason I am writing a review on the printer is that due to problems with the driver the printer was honestly tossed on the sidewalk with box and all since it couldnt be returned after 30 days and after not being able to configure the multi non functional anything machine printer driver.
The printer was picked up and disappeared to some poor devil on the street thinking he got a freebee. My honest opinion to brother is it needs a friendlier printer driver or at least one that works.
I also own a mfc brother 4600 and currently not getting anything printed out but works in windows unlike the 7150c encountering driver problems with Linux nothing prints not even in the hp2 mode.Check to make sure your driver works with the printer or OS wherever the problem is.
Brother MFC-7150 All-In-One Color Printer,Copier,Fax,Scanner.......2002-02-22
If you are short on computer desk space, but need a printer, copier, etc. this is a great alternative rather than buying
separate components.
The printer works pretty decent in black/white and the color isn't picture perfect, but it gets the job done. The copier
works good and the scanner... I have never used it. The fax
works good, too, however, it seems to only work when the sender
presses the start button on their fax machine. It may be just an
adjustment on the Brother that can easily be made.
This system also has video capture input for a dig camera,
camcorder, and VCR. It also comes with a product manuel
with lots of easily understood instructions.
The most important feature which sold me was the price of ink
cartridges...And very
easy to install.
Bottom line...good starter machine, low price, cheaper ink and
a space saver!
Keep Looking if you're considering this product.......2001-12-27
This all-in-one printer/scan/fax etc.. was great in the beginning. However, just after the 90 day warranty expired, the print quality began to fall, especially with the black ink. The customer service people only tell you what you can read in the manual and their service center for D/FW is over 20 miles away. The print head has failed, costing 150.00 plus labor. So...here I am searching for a new machine. Buyer Beware!
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS MACHINE.......2001-09-25
I inititally liked the performance and flexibility of this machine, but like many others I found that the print head needed replacement after only about 18 months of very light use. At $149.99 for a replacement head from Brother, this is way too much. I'll be junking mine and buying from a competitor.
pleased but disapointed in software and company.......2001-08-28
I like the product but the software Ihave to keep reinstalling because of something in the disc the company won't let me download the drivers and stuff FREE after i buy their product
