The HP LaserJet 1018 printer is small and affordable. As with ALL printers, the price of the ink cartridge is more than the printer itself. So, when the original cartridge is over, I will just buy a new printer. The only issue I have with this printer is the paper tray lies flat down and OUTSIDE the printer body. This increases the space it takes. HP should have made is a top-load machine. If you want a GREAT, fast laser printer for a good price - this is it. It gets a 9 for the pros and 1 for the cons.
Vista Driver is a Nightmare.......2007-11-29
Took me days to fix. You have to install driver first BEFORE plugging printer to USB. Blame is on Vista (Premium Home) though.

This is an excellent printer. It's fast, reliable and easy to set up. Works better than printers costing five times as much. We had this HP and three different other printers in our offices, and only this one worked out of the box no problems (i.e. no setup issues, no need to download extra drivers)--just put in the cd turn it on and it works. If everything worked this well with Windows, no one would want a Mac.

I was concerned about buying an off-brand toner cartridge to use in my LaserJet 1018. However, after comparing the price between the HP cartridge and this one, I was willing to risk it. The HP cartridge was more than double the price of this brand so I thought if I received half it's value I was doing well.
I was very surprised when the toner cartridge arrived in a timely manner and more surprise when after inserting it into the printer, the prints were equal to those produced by the HP toner.
