This is one of the best purchases I've ever made. It has everything I'm always in need of. Little scissors and a file for quick nail fixes. I. love always having a small knife to open all the packages that arrive in the mail. The pen has come in handy on many occasions eventhough I normally have one in my purse. The light is the only feature I find useless. The 512MB USB may not be enough for most people so that every few months they'll have to do some housekeeping (back-up and deleting) to free up space.

Just don't have it on you as you go through security for a flight. But that's no different than any swiss army knife. I've never had a problem remembering that.

The perfect man's gift????

I am not planning to field dress a deer or fillet a bass with one of these, but there seem to me at least two puzzling shortcomings.

1) I would rather not have the weight of a Swiss army knife hanging at the end of my USB flash drive when it is plugged into my computer.

2) Could be wrong here, but seems like you might find this confiscated by Homeland Security if you happened to have it with you while trying to board an airplane. How fast can you say "hasta la vista" to your data?

Not trying to be the Grinch here, but I would much rather not combine the functionality of these two different (and otherwise desirable) tools.

On the other hand, perhaps this would be the perfect woman's gift??? Yeah, good luck with that one ;)

It's more for looks than function........2007-07-25

When I bought this, I traveled somewhat frequently. With that said, this is a PITA in a laptop bag (where *ding* it's supposed to be), and if you forget it's in there, kiss it goodbye at security. Besides that, there are a few other things that I don't like about this thumb drive. 1) It takes a few months to get used to how to put it back into the knife. It's rather counterintuitive. If you take it out and keep it out of the knife, it's easy to lose, but if you don't as you use it, the plastic holding it in the knife will bend/break. 2) It's REALLY easy to breach the plastic hooks that hold it in the knife. I haven't done it, but I've been very close. 3) It's really on a conversation piece. If you need a knife, then you most likely don't need a thumb drive, and if you need a thumb drive, you most likely need a bigger thumb drive. But it has a sharp blade and scissors that don't work all that well as nail clippers. It also has a nail file that is too short to really be effective. And the light is cool for McGyver situations where anything will work in a pinch, but not a light to use if not absolutely necessary. The pen is also difficult to write with, but again, it will do in a pinch.

Other than that, everyone thinks it's cool and the thumb drive is reliable.

As of Christmas day, my husband will have used this item for a full year. He's a computer programmer, webpage designer, etc and this item gets full use EVERY DAY. He still loves it and won't leave home without it in his pocket! Just the other day the light went out and we are searching out a replacement battery, but other than that have had NO other troubles with it. I use a Toughbook and I do a lot of training. I have pictures, powerpoints, documents and more on mine. I liked it so much I bought the other colors and sizes. They are reliable and adorable. It is also a talking point becauseno one that sees it believes it. They can also link together like legos, not for memory, just for fun when you're really bored!

this is an excellent drive with large capacity and no baggage (i.e. stupid software). the only potential downside is that it is REALLY small (in physical dimensions, not storage capacity). I have lost the drive on several occasions only to find it a day later in my pocket or at the bottom of my bag.

Don't waste your money on this SD card. Bought one for my Canon digital camera. In less than one year it started corrupting images and video clips. I will never buy another Kingston memory card. Check out Amazon's reviews on the Kingston 2GB SD card - more of the same data corruption issues.

Works with Readyboost or file storage........2007-11-07

I bought this SD card not for a camera, but for my laptop. I wanted to see if it would work with Vista Readyboost and to copy files to it for backup. I emailed Kington to ask them if this card would work with Readyboost. They told me that even though it was not made for that use, it should work because of the speed. Well, it did work with Readyboost. The reason I wanted to use an SD card for storage or Readyboost is because it does not stick out like a flash drive so I can just leave it inserted all the time. I still use flash drives though as another backup for files. This is a Class 6 which means fast read and write speed. So, I can transfer about 2gb of data in about 4 minutes.

If your computer takes this type of card then here are the advantages:

Very fast.
No danger of hitting and breaking because if fits nearly flush.
4gb equals plenty of storage.
Can be used with Vista Readyboost.

Just make sure whichever card you buy that it is Class 6. Otherwise it will not be fast enough to work with Readyboost. Also, check that your computer will accept SDHC. This card is not compatible with standard SD card readers.

Great tool when it works.......2007-06-29

I primarily purchased this for the flash drive component. It replaced a 1GB swissmemory I'd returned because the pen portion broke off (yes, I actually used it, too!) and I needed the larger capacity. Well, when I got this new one, the flash drive seemed a little slower. 6 months later, it died. Completely. All my data is gone. Granted, I backed up what I needed, but I'd expect this to last longer than 6 months. Also, the price - you can buy a new 2GB flash drive for $20 now, and the silver alox version of the swiss army portion of the tool only costs another $20... even adding a courtesy $20 for the convenience of having the two-in-one, that only puts it at $60, half of what it's going for here. Not the best deal, but it's still a cool tool.

I have owned the 1gb model in the past. I just bought the 2gb model, and although the packaging and manual references the SecureLOCK function, this unit does not have it. I called technical support (18 mins hold time, got disconnected, 16 more mins hold time at 10am PST). The tech support guy thinks the software is available for download but couldn't find it (I spent 30 mins looking before I called technical support). The URL in the manual is no good (404).

The warranty is good, but if you have to send it in, expect it to be gone for 60 days. On two occasions with my 1gb model I had to send it in. Once was a defect with the memory stick, the other time the scissors broke (not just the spring, the entire scissor arm broke off). The first time, I got so frustrated with the amount of time it took, I nearly bought another one to replace it. The second time, in anticipation of the delay, I bought the 2gb model.

It lasted two weeks. The rubber housing opened a little when squeezed near the usb plug and along its width (blue thing to blue thing). A little dirt or moisture got in. The computer no longer recognized what kind of USB device was being plugged in. I tested other USB devices, including a different flash memory, and they all worked fine.

I cut the rubberized covering off and blew the circuit board clean. The computer then recognized that the device is (was) a usb flash memory. I promptly backed up my data. I'm back to my 2Gb sandisk that has lasted about 2 years.

FAST and rugged.......2007-09-24

This is one of the fastest flash drives available on the market. It does depend on whether or not your computer has a USB 2.0 port, of course, but if it does then no problem. Quick to install on any machine (also MACs) and needs no drivers, even if a mini-CD is supplied.

The best feature has to be the rubber encasing. I had the 512Mb version for six months before losing it. I tend to keep USB drives in my pocket, so inevitably they end up in the washing machine sometimes. The Voyager took at least FIVE trips through both washer and dryer, and it kept working flawlessly nonetheless. And this was without the cap! (which, I can guarantee you, you'll lose within a week).

So overall a performing, durable, and relatively cheap purchase.

I regret buying that USB stick, not fast at all and expensive compared to other flash drives. Also cap is loose and very easy to loose it.

I had the exact same problem as another reviewer. Ordered this for Christmas, the description clearly states it's a memory card with knife, file and scissors and all I received was the memory card only model. It's obviously too late to get an exchange by Christmas! :\

A Useful Tool to Have Around.......2007-02-18

I have carried Victorinox knives for years (six years in the Marine Corps and the Swiss Classic is the most knife I ever needed) and liked the idea of being able to combine my pen knife with my flash drive. Sized the same as the Swiss Classic (about 1" blade) but thicker, the Alox version does not have a toothpick, tweezers, or any of the other functions Victorinox typically puts into the sides of the handle but that is a small loss. I found the removable flash drive to be reliable and I have not had a problem using it on various computers. Because the flash drive is removable, you can take it off the knife to install on a computer or keep with you on the plane. When folded into the knife, there is a cover that keeps dirt and lint out of the USB connection. I am satisfied and am thinking about getting the 2gb model.

I received this as a gift over a year ago and it has proved to be very reliable and really convenient. I use it to transfer client files or move files between computers. Because it hooks to my key ring I always have it close at hand. It needs a driver to work on a Windows 98 computer but Windows XP recognizes it right away. What a great idea.

Expensive, not fast at all..........2007-09-10

I regret buying that USB stick, not fast at all and expensive compared to other flash drives. Also cap is loose and very easy to loose it.

a frustrating waste of money.......2007-09-06

Used this card for about six months my first year in college. After one of my friend's graduation, my camera would not turn on. So I thought there was something wrong with my camera. Apparently, not because I placed the card a new camera I bought and it said "card error" and my old camera can turn in. In essence, don't buy the card. I've lost valuable memories including those of graduations because this product is simply unreliable.

horrible.......2007-07-04

i bought this 2 gb memory card for my 3 days 2 nights las vegus trip with my boyfriend & his parents who're in town for vacation from england. we took ton of pictures and videos from the trip just to found out that the f**king memory card corrupted at the end of our last nignt there. we lost everything.
what a nightmare!

I've been using this card in my Pentax 8MP camera for a month or so now and it seems to be working as well as my higher priced SanDisk Ultra II, so for the price, I'm very happy with my purchase.
UPDATE: after 6 months and now in my 10MP Pentax A30, it's still working great. I take a lot of movies as well as still photos of my new grandson and I've never had a problem.
