Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite .......2007-12-23
If you have ever had carpel tunnel or problems with your wrist, this keyboard is for you. I had one at work and went back to using a standard keyboard and after a week all my pain was back. Now, I not only use one at work, but I purchased one for home use directly from Amazon.
Microsoft natural keyboard elite.......2007-12-11
I LOVE the split keyboard. Have been using this same one for years and wouldn't go back to a regular keyboard. It's the only one that will work with my Belkin switch, i have 2 computers but use one monitor, keyboard, mouse.
Natural KB Elite.......2007-12-08
This is one of my favorite key boards. This is the third one I've purchased sense it's introduction to the market. Microsoft made some minor adjustments to the keyboard's size compared to my old one. The keypads have a nice resistance just enough for comfort. At first I thought the size difference was due to a cost saving move; however it seems to be slightly more comfortable. I like the fact that it's still wired because I use an IO auto switch to move between four systems and don't have to worry about battiers wearing out. Wireless is great too but one size dosn't fit everybody. I have tried a few other ergo. key boards but this is my favorite. I was considering buying a few more and keeping them in storage when the replacement fails eventually.
The one and only ergo.......2007-12-07
I love this keyboard! Have used them for years now. No extra keys just the ones any good NERD has used for the last 10 years. If you getting this chance are you think of your self as Old School.
Great, better than standard keyboards.......2007-11-23
Cons: (disclaimer: most of these cons are minimal, but you really notice the small things when you use something for many hours in a day)
1) The keys take too much force to press down. Why can't the keys just be lighter? I previously owned a "Logitech Office Pro 967452-0403 White PS/2 Standard Keyboard" and loved how quickly I zoomed through the keys, but this one takes a little more force than I would like. I've used the product for 2 weeks but still haven't developed enough finger-muscle strength to type without missing the speed from the lighter action on the logitech. Don't get me wrong - it really isn't that much force, but just enough to be noticable. It's just something I think is unnecessary.
2) The keys are still at the old angled layout like all other standard keyboard. This is supposed to be an ergonomic keyboard, right? So why are the keys still slanted like they were with typewriters, where they slanted the keys so that the machine wouldn't jam up from fast typing. If you can't follow me, take a look at the Kinesis and Maltron ( Maltron Keyboards (Dual Handed) ) ergonomic keyboards, and you'll see what I mean. Seriously, take a second to look at how you type the z, x, c, or v key and think about how much better it would be if the keys were placed grid-like right under the home asdf keys. Why must they still be slanted? It's like they expect our arms to grow at a left-ward angle instead of the straight angle.
3) The arrow keys are too small and have a weird layout. I really liked how my hand fits on the standard arrow key layout, with the index finger on the left, middle finger on the up, and ring finger on the right keys - just feels a lot more NATURAL. On this keyboard, I have to squeeze my fingers together to get the same placement. Wonder why they would put this small, crosshair layout on a keyboard they named "natural". Good thing today that many games allow you to use the awsd keys instead.
4) The size of the delete key. I find myself hitting the end key above it far too often, or accidentally hitting the insert key along with the delete key right beside it. They should have made the delete key a little bigger.
5) (This one's a personal qualm, probably wouldn't bother most others) The keys don't feel glossy. I love how glossy the keys feel on my old logitech... it drew my fingers to them so much that I'd just want to leave them there for the rest of the day. *Pouts*
6) The Function keys aren't grouped. It used to be very easy to hit the right function keys without having to look at them, but on this keyboard, they're all squeezed together so you'd rarely know which one you're hitting. You could probably train yourself to do so, so that's why this is my last and least malicious con.
Pros:
1) The great big gap in the middle. Even before ever hearing of split keyboards, I've always felt that my hands were a little bit too close together on the standard keyboard, and my left hand would arc to the left in order to orient itself with the straight layout, hurting my wrist a bit. This split keyboard alleviates all of that - my hands feel so much more natural. Now if they'd only do something about the key layout so that my fingers would feel better too (see my con #2 up there).
2) The upward slope in the middle. Although I wish the slope would be a tad higher, I think it's great Microsoft chose at least implement a slope, which gets your hands closer to the ultimate natural position: the vertical hand-shake position (Google the Safetype ergonomic keyboard to see what I mean.)
3) The lights are in the middle of the keyboard. It's just so much better when I can see the lights right there instead of all the way in the corner.
4) Aesthetically, the keyboard doesn't look too shabby. I like the inward curve on the top, and just like how the keyboard looks. =)
Final comments:
Yes, there are more cons than pros, and yes, I still give this keyboard a 4-star rating. Why? Read my disclaimer above - the cons are quite minimal but do add up. If they at least rectified my #1 con, I would whole-heartedly give the keyboard 5 stars. But as I type on this keyboard now, and move my hands back to my old keyboard and type on that, my fingers just frown at why all keyboards can't have such light yet responsive keys for them to zoom through.
I really love the split design of this keyboard, and quite like how it still uses qwerty. Dvorak would please my fingers more, but the thing is, it's not ubiquitous, and upsetting others when I forget to switch their keyboard layout back to qwerty would probably get annoying. I think this keyboard hits a nice ergonomic balance, keeping qwerty due to its ubiquitousness, yet having the wonderful split design.
The cons of many reviews include how big this keyboard is and the changed layout of the home, end, delete, etc key group. I on the other hand would much rather have a spacious keyboard because I have tons of desk space, than a keyboard that makes me feel cramped. Also, the changed layout of the home, end, insert, and delete keys really doesn't affect me much because I don't really use them much, except for the delete key which hasn't changed position - it's still right next to the enter key.
Really, for the price there's not much wrong with this keyboard, and nothing wrong with the split design. I would however recommend this keyboard instead: Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard because it keeps all of the pros of this keyboard, but rectifies one of my cons - the arrow-key layout.
Thanks for reading, and happy buying! Don't forget, your hands are much more important than $30. =D

Customer Reviews:
Fantastic keyboard, but not this 5 pack.......2007-04-02
I love this keyboard and have been only using this keyboard since at least 2001. It is sturdy and doesn't have extra features, it isn't wireless, and it is a bit of a quirky key layout that bothers some people (the arrow keys are smaller than on many keyboards) - but I love it.
The reason for my low rating on this product is not on the keyboard, but on this actual sales page.
It says that this is a 5 pack of keyboards, and when I ordered it, a single keyboard came. I sent it back to Amazon, they apologized and said they would send the proper 5 pack. They then sent me another single keyboard. I sent it back, they refunded my money, and I bought the 5 pack elsewhere.
Hopefully that is all resolved now, but after talking to other people who have had similar issues with Amazon when buying multi-packs and only getting a single unit - be wary.
I love Amazon and buy a ton of stuff from them, and will continue to do so, but I will not be buying multi-packs from them.
You Will Never Go Back.......2007-03-19
These keyboards take a little time, not much though, to get the feel, but once you're comfortable with it, you'll never go back to the old style. Your typing speed goes up dramatically even if you're not a real great typist. After you have used this keyboard for a little while, try typing on a regular one and you'll see just how much better this one really is. Also, these keyboards are more compact and less cumbersome than others that I had looked at.
super.......2007-01-03
I love this keyboard! Once you get used to it you can't go back to the straight keyboard again. These are OEM versions and my boss noticed that they are several inches smaller than the retail version. I don't mind because I have hands and not paws. Very comfortable for the wrists.

Wow! Who could believe typing could ever be so comfortable? With the Microsoft(r) Natural(r) Keyboard Elite, it's a natural. No wonder it's the single best selling ergonomic keyboard on the planet. Put your hands out and type. Naturally. That's the idea behind the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite. It lets you work more comfortably by helping you type with your hands, wrists, and forearms in a more relaxed posture. Fits you, not the other way around. Bend your arms at the elbows and hold your hands straight out. See how your hands naturally position themselves at a slight inward angle toward each other? Notice how this angle matches the angle of the split-keypad on the Microsoft Natural Keyboard elite? That's no coincidence!
Customer Reviews:
Frustrating.......2005-12-09
In fact, for those of us who learned to type by touch using our right hand for the "6" key, this is VERY frustrating. Microsoft has ignored this complaint from users for a long time.
Good for people who type and type and type and...........2003-06-12
I've had this keyboard for about a year and use it for at least 8 hours a day while at work. I'm going to buy another one for home use too. I was having trouble with carpal tunnel, which was my primary reason for buying the keyboard. After about 6 weeks of using this keyboard I had fewer problems with my wrists. I haven't escaped it completely, but as a programmer that is something that will probably hang around for life.
Getting to know the repositioning of the keys was less agrivating than I thought it would be and I can still use both a straight keyboard and the ergonomic ones with very little difficulty when switching from on PC to the other.
Hooking it up was literally just unplugging the old keyboard and plugging this one in. After a year I've had no trouble with it.
If you type a lot, I would pick one of these up.
Great for people with large hands.......2002-11-16
This is the worlds greatest keyboard. Before I got it I had trouble using a keyboard due to the acute angle it forced my wrists into. With the Natural Keyboard I can type much faster and with no discomfort. There is of course a learning curve with it as with any new piece of equipment, but that is overcome with practice. Also the 6 key is not placed on the wrong side as one other reviewer claims, it is placed exactly where I expect it to be. I think any large handed person will quickly become very fond of this keyboard's layout.
Real gamers don't use arrow keys........2002-02-09
Here's a tip for all the gamers who are missing the full size arrow keys: leave your fingers on the home keys the way God intended and configure those keys within the game for movement. It's a much more natural possition, and it allows your hand access to the optimal number of keys for other functions in the game.
Arrow keys are almost obsolete with a scrolling mouse, and I don't miss the big space hogs at all. This is a good product overall, but I dock it one star for a mushy space bar.
Non-alpha keys re(dis)organised, as well as shrunken.......2002-01-02
While I do not personally own one of these myself, I have used it in a lab at my school. When available, I almost always choose the machine with the Natural(tm) keyboard, as it truly does make it easier to type, and less stressful not only on hand and wrist but on the shoulders, too.
However, as some have noted, the movement keys (arrows, home, end, pg up/dn, ins, del) are rather small compared to the average straight keyboard, and they're all reorganised, too. Apparently this has been fixed in more recent editions of the board, but on this one, the Insert, &c. block have been ordered into three rows of two, rather than two of three, and this can make finding the delete key by touch, for example, a little difficult. Not only have the arrows been moved into a cruciform arrangement, but they're also about half the size of the rest of the keys, which again makes them hard to find.
However, the keyboard as a whole is a responsive, pain-reducing, joy to use. Now if only their software were so good. . .

CAN'T USE MY PC WITHOUT IT!!.......2007-06-21
I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE INTELLITYPE SOFTWARE IS; BUT, THIS IS THE SAME KEYBOARD I HAVE BEEN USING SINCE 2000. I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT. IT TOOK A FEW DAYS TO GET USED TO WHERE TO PUT MY FINGERS, BUT THE WRIST REST HELPS TREMENDOUSLY. I USED THE NORMAL KEYBOARDS FOR MORE YEARS THAN I CAN REMEMBER AND WASN'T TOO SURE I WOULD LIKE IT. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT FOR ANYONE WHO HAS ARTHRITIS OR CARPAL TUNNELS, IT MADE ME ABLE TO TYPE WHEN I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD AGAIN. THE PAIN IN MY FINGERS AND WRISTS HAS SUBSIDED SO MUCH I DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT ANYMORE, IT IS A GREAT EXERCISE FOR THEM. THE SPACEBAR BEING CURVED AND WIDE MAKES IT EASY TO REACH WITH EITHER HAND WITHOUT LIFTING YOUR WRIST FOR ANY OF THE KEYS. THE ONLY TIME I HAD A PROBLEM WITH ONE OF THEM (I BOUGHT ABOUT 6 OF THEM) IS WHEN I SPILLED WATER INTO THE WHOLE TYPING AREA, LOL. THAT WAS THE ONLY THING THAT I EVER DID TO IT THAT CAUSED IT TO MALFUNCTION. I HAD TO REPLACE IT AND DECIDED TO BUY A COUPLE OF EXTRA ONES IN CASE THAT HAPPENED AGAIN; THEY DON'T LIKE YOU TO GIVE THEM A BATH OR SHOWER. WITH THE PRICES SO REASONABLE, I FOUND IT WORTH GETTING MORE THAN ONE AS SPARES FOR SUCH INCIDENTS. INSTALLATION WAS SIMPLE, TOO. THE KEYS HAVE A NICE TOUCH WITH A SLIGHTLY RAISED BAR ON THE F AND J KEYS SO YOU CAN FIND YOUR FINGER POSITION WITHOUT LOOKING WHICH HELPS A LOT. IT IS DIFFERENT; BUT, ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT, YOU'LL NEVER GO BACK TO A REGULAR KEYBOARD AGAIN. I THINK 7 YEARS OF USE SAYS SOMETHING FOR IT. TRY IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT.
