After the USB ports onboard the Dell computer died, I needed something to connect the myriad of USB devices on the desk (2 external storage devices, two printers and one scanner). I purchased the Belkin controller because I've been satisfied with other Belkin products that I have purchased in the past; their price was a bit higher than similar controllers from other manufacturers. The hardest task was extracting the USB controller card from the plastic packaging. Plugged the card in, powered up the computer (Windows XP Pro) and plugged in the devices. Everything worked like magic and faster than the original onboard USB ports.

the only problem I've had with this is if I leave something plugged into it (like an iPod) and try to put my computer to sleep, it doesn't work and I have to reboot.

Installation was simple (requires adding a card internally to your computer), and Windows XP supplied the rest of the installation. I did install the supplied driver, but was probably not needed. I have used this card for a month now without any problems.

Easy installation on my Power Mac G4 - no drivers to install. I've tried other usb cards, but Belkin is definitely the one to get. Works perfectly with Mac OS 10.4.8; iPods synch and charge without any issues.

I have an 2001 Sony Vaio PCV-RX550 (P4 1.5Ghz 256Ram XP home). Installed the card in an open slot, booted up, XP found and loaded drivers no problem. Why pay more when this does the job? Highly recommend.

I bought this card to connect to external hard disks. The installation is very easy on my XP computer. However, this card simply does not work with my external USB 2 hard disks. I tried a few USB drivers on it. One (128 MB) worked, the other (4 GB) did not. My digital camera seemed to work with it. I reinstalled the card a few times, changed the bios settings, PCI slots and so on. Nothing helped. Now, I have to get a different USB 2 card.

I put this card into my 2001 G4 quicksilver, largely to accomodate my daughter's new iPod touch.
It dropped right in, I did install some tiny bit of software from the Cd just to be thorough.
It works perfectly. The iPod liked it, the cameras like it, it is a very worthy item to install in a computer that is pre-USB 2.
I already had the d-Sub hub and that plugged right in and works just great with it too.
All in all, this is well worth the 20-25 bones just to plug in the iPod. A very good deal.

Card installed and ran with no major hiccups within minutes of signing for it. Purchased card for iPod and it runs great. I don't know if there is an issue with the computer not sleeping with something plugged into it, can't say that I have put it in such a situation. I also do not use it to plug in a mouse or keyboard, only peripherals. Mac 10.4.11 2x800mhz G4.

This USB 2.0 card was purchased because I have an older PC with USB 1.1 ports and needed 2.0 for my new MP3 player. Since it has so many ports and I only needed 1, I figured I'd used another port for another use. It turns out I have a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard/Mouse setup. The receiver is a USB unit. Naturally I thought I'd use this board for my keyboard & mouse. After I installed this card, everytime I power-up, I get a messaged from Windows saying that the O/S didn't find my keyboard! It then boots and finds both keyboard & mouse (both work through one receiver). Now, once the PC is booted and up, the MP3 player and software work just fine. So the problems only occur during boot time and then go away.

Anyone else out there with a G5 tower that has all but given up finding useful expansion cards to fit your PCI-X slots?
I've been looking for something that would work in my Dual 1.8 G5 tower for a long time. Several months ago I stumbled across Sonnet's website. I bookmarked it and forgot it.
There's really a limit to how useful daisy-chaining USB hubs is, and I passed that threshold ages ago. I finally started looking again, and before long I finally found my own bookmark.
Well, I got it. I bought mine from Amazon, which actually shows an older model in their picture but they ship the current one. It was actually 2 bucks cheaper than Sonnet's page and the shipping was free.
It arrived yesterday while I was at work - way before I expected it, and I just put it in.
- Power down.
- Plug the card into slot 2.
- Power up.
It works!
Incidentally - the other reviewers who mention that Amazon's picture is from an older, huger model are spot on. This is much slimmer and trimmer than the one pictured.

I opened up my G4 Power Mac, inserted the card, screwed everything tight, reconnected it all, and then powered it all on, and it worked great! With my USB 1.1 connection, my External Hard Drive took about 5 hours to transfer 4.5 GB of files to my computer. Using the USB 2.0 card, it transfered in less then 10 minutes! I highly recommend it.

I purchased this card for my G4 Dual 800 Quicksilver (2001). I had bought a generic usb 2.0 card at Best Buy that would seem to be working fine but then lock up once the device I had plugged into it was pulled out. The Sonnet Allegro card did the same thing the first time I tried it and I was ready to return it when I switched PCI slots, on a whim. Now it works perfectly. I have a feeling the problem is with my computer and not the card itself. If you are having problems with add-on PCI cards, I suggest you try switching slots before sending them back.

Installation was quick and easy! Windows XP detected the new hardware and installed the drivers for it.
It works with every USB 2.0 device I have, EXCEPT my new Fuji Finepix S6000fd camera and my new Olympus MAUSB200 memory card reader using XD type M memory. The camera with it's large picture files was the sole reason for this USB card purchase.
To be completely fair, I must add that I read in the camera's owners manual later that they (Fuji) only guarantees the Camera's USB connection to work with a factory installed USB port. The camera and card reader work fine on the factory installed USB 1 ports on 2 different computers.
If you plan on using this card with a Fuji S6000fd camera, buy something else. This card won't work with it! I even installed the Ultra driver and it still won't work with the camera or the card reader.
Other than this the Ultra 6 Port Pci USB 2.0 card works fine with all other USB items I've attached to it.

I purchased this PCI board a few months ago and It didn't work. I called and talked with the tech support people who eventually said they would send me a new one. Two months later, after multiple emails to them, I have not received the new board and haven't even heard back from them.

whether you need more USB ports but don't want to add another power cord (from a hub) to your already full surge protector or perhaps have an older motherboard with only USB 1.1 (or even no) ports you can't go wrong with this card. Also works right out of the box with every Linux distro I've thrown at including Mepis, Linspire, Ubuntu, Suse, and Xandros.

Being in Hawaii, I needed to bridge the gap across the pond to the states. Even with a rig that would make 99.9% of people in the PC builder community drool, latency and lag can still be a killer. This card really delivers. I have never seen World of Warcraft, CounterStrike, and Battlefield 2 play so fast before. It is much less laggy than it used to be without the Killer.

Anyone who doesn't like this card, doesn't understand what it does.
This is not a normal NIC. The processor on the card actually bypasses the windows network stack.
There is no other network card capable of doing this.
The increase to frame rate and ping that the killer nic website brags about are actually not its biggest selling point for me. Those are just bonuses.
The best thing about this card is its ability to smooth out network performance. This isnt measurable by numbers, but in how it actually feels in real world use.
I honestly can not play online games without this card anymore.
And the price? Your buying a linux cpu and extra ram. Its more than justified.
If any of you were around years ago when seperate graphics cards were first released, than you will remember the flaming people who said "my standard mobo vid card is good enough". now those seperate graphics cards are virtually required for gaming.
Well what if those seperate graphics cards were no better than the mobo card? there wouldnt have been a point. Thats what other network cards are like. They just toss packets through the standard process.
This is the first and only NIC that outsources the network process the way a graphics card outsources the graphics process. Offloading all the work from the cpu.
Bottom line is this: Does your computer suck? than yea, dont waste your time buying a $250 NIC.
Do you actually care about your computer? Do you have a video card worth at least $200? do you play online games?
This is the next step up.
Just to compare; I bought a $400 graphics card right before I bought my killer. Swapping them out and comparing the performance increases, I get more net gain with the killer than I do with the graphics card alone.
Obviously putting in both (for me) is the way to go.
This is a whole new world for gaming. There is nothing else out there that
can improve your online gaming in quite the same way; and any other upgrades your considering are still going to benifit from having the killer as well.
Heck, for some of you with really high end gaming rigs that are already worth thousands, i cant imagine you wouldnt want to also improve your network connection performance. and for those of you with mid range systems, this card at this price is going to give as good or better performance increase than anything else you could upgrade to in this price range.
I could go on ... and on... but honestly... i never expected it to be this good. and i cant imagine playing without it anymore.
Not only that... but theres programs coming out that will be able to run on the killers processor without tying up cpu performance, try that with any other network card

I saw no change in network performance. A network is only as fast as its weakest link which will always be the ISP.
Furthermore, if you wish to play on a LAN, then all the computer connected will require the same card to get that extra 7% of whatever its promising. Honestly, a standard gigabit card with proper switching hub will be super fast and be alot less money. Unless your just buying it for the metal K which you cannot even see because its facing down in the case.
All in all... your better of buying a better video card or more memory.

I bought this card and it worked except the metal strip holding the circuit board would not sit and the card would have broken if I screwed it in, so I voided the warranty by shaving some of the surplus board proud of the contacts so it would fit in properly. After I did that, the card did not work at all so I just blew my money and have no card now.

Hardware -- very well built item, as I removed the SeaTech version and replaced with this Belken. There is NO comparsion on the quality of the hardware.
Software -- same issue as SeaTech, the driver is outdated and caused issues with motherboard. I had to revert back to the original driver from Dell --
