SONY ICF-CD843 -- If you prefer a gentle nudge in the morning rather than a loud shout, you need the sophisticated awakening options the SONY Dream Machine(R) offers. With the ICF-CD843 you get to choose between your favorite morning CD, or your favorite radio station. Triple Alarm - 3 Time / 3 Modes ( CD / Radio / Buzzer ) Extendable Snooze CD Play Modes Brightness Control
Amazon.com Product Description
Your sleep schedule is important, so you need a clock radio with useful features. Look no further because the The ICF-CD843V truly delivers. It has a triple alarm, so you can set three different alarm times, each with the option of waking to CD, buzzer, or radio. The large dual time display shows both the current time and your alarm setting.
You'll love the Snoozinator extendable snooze feature that gives you the freedom to easily choose your own snooze time instead of being held captive by the short time intervals of most snooze timers. Each press of the bar adds an additional ten minutes to your total snooze time. With just a few quick flicks of your fingertips you can add up to a full hour of uninterrupted sleep after the alarm first sounds.
The Nap Timer is a cool advancement in clock radios. It's totally separate from your alarms, so you can take naps without resetting the alarm. Simply set a nap time of 10 to 120 minutes, and never worry about messing up the alarm setting. This is a perfect feature for college students or busy professionals who need quick cat naps while hard at work.
This clock radio features a space-conscious design and a large, dual-time display that is backlit for day and night visibility and which allows you to see the time and your alarm-set time with a quick glance. You'll love the four-band digital synthesized tuner, providing accurate, drift-free access to AM/FM, TV, and weather broadcasts. The CD player will play all your standard CDs as well as burned CD-R/RW discs. The alarm features might be the big draw for this clock radio, but Sony has built it to deliver great sound, too. The Mega Bass sound system produces rich, deep bass tones for a more powerful overall sound and the CD play modes allow for customized listening. All together these great alarm and sound features make the ICF-CD843V an excellent choice for your home or office.
Customer Reviews:
no freakin' battery!!!???.......2007-12-25
It is inconceivable to me that in 2007 an alarm clock radio would be manufactured without a battery backup. This radio can't even get plugged in: it's going back.
Missing earphone plug........2007-12-17
The radio and CD functions are great, as is the sound quality. But there is a strange omission of an earphone jack, which would enable one spouse to listen without disturbing the other.
It's very hard to read the stupid buttons.......2007-12-17
This clock has some great features such as the TV audio. The darn buttons are practically impossible to read especially in the evening. What a stupid design flaw! I have excellent vision (pity anyone that doesn't) but why would you write in light color on silver? Very disappointing Sony.
Great unit!.......2007-12-14
Just received this and already loving it. Took a bit of effort to figure out the programming of the alarms, but in general, not too bad. (Must keep the directions around for after a power outage since no battery backup like the Dream Machine I bought 15 years ago. o.O) Alarm worked well, CD sounds awesome - no noise in my unit as I've read others report. Bass Booster is very awesome, really adds to sound quality.
One thing missing - built-in toaster. This little guy does it all! :P
sony dream machine.......2007-12-14
This product is all that we had anticipated it would be. The CD, AM, FM portions work wonderfully and the TV and weatherband, which were a complete surprise are very handy. We live in a valley where radio reception is not always what it should be and the tiny 18" antenna picks up any station that we desire very well. The antenna because it is such a small cord is entirely unobtrusive while on an end table. The sound quality is tremendous, much more reminiscent of a much larger unit. We would not only buy this again for ourselves, but think of it as a viable gift for our friends.

Good Sound, CD Doesn't Work.......2007-12-26
I bought this as a surprise gift for my husband for Christmas 2007. He was so excited he took it out of the box and hung it below the kitchen cabinet right after he opened it. The radio worked great with good sound but it wouldn't play any CD's. Now we have to take it down and return it, and I have holes in my cabinet. Very disappointing.
Music.......2007-11-08
This is a really nice cd / radio player. Ours is in the laundry room. Love the sound and style. Only problem is reception for the radio but that is only every now and then.
Great value and great quality.......2007-10-31
Was searching for a pull-down TV/radio for awhile for my kitchen and couldn't justify the high cost of the TV and thought I'd settled for a radio with TV broadcast. Very happily surprised with the TV broadcast and the radio is great. No interference and I have it next to my microwave and pretty close to the frig. The sound quality is typical awesome Sony and putting a magnet on the remote is ingenious. I'm extremely happy with the price too - $20 lower than BestBuy.
Absolutely love it........2007-10-28
After reading all the reviews I decided to buy the product. It arrived within days, very easy to install, the sound is more then I expected. The design is trimline and looks great under the cabinet. Would highly recommend this product.
Excellent undercabinet radio........2007-10-23
The sound quality is very good for an undercabinet radio. I like the timer feature for the kitchen as well. The keys are easy to understand and the cd player does it's job.

Customer Reviews:
Nice Clock but radio not so good.......2007-12-23
Nice for bed side alarm though the radio is analog and takes time to tune in and you can preset various channels. No battery back up for travel mode
CD Clock Radio.......2007-12-15
The only feature I'd like to see is NOT having the CD restart from top of track 1 every time it is used as an alarm. It should pick-up where I stopped it.
Sony Dream Machine.......2007-12-12
The clock and alarm work great, but was disappointed in the radio quality and overall quality of the machine. I had seen one at a hotel and it was of a much better quality.
Dreaming of better technology........2007-11-26
The cd player skips at the least bump or vibration, it's much larger that it looks in the picture, much larger than it needs to be and the multifunction switches are trouble. And last but certainly not least, Sony has set a new low in alarm clock technology...where every other manufacturer in the world has a battery backup in case of a power outage...the Sony Dream Machine does not! I guess they figure if there is a blip in the power you should just go on "Dreaming". Oh and by the way, make sure you have the instruction manual handy, once the power goes back on you'll need it to go through the process of resetting everything. If you're looking for a really good and less expensive radio/cd player alarm, check out the RCA RP5600.
radio/cd player.......2007-11-26
This small cd player has big sound. Contols for volume and radio are not convenient. Would be better with digital read out for radio. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Customer Reviews:
Christmas dissapointment.......2007-12-25
I purchased this unit for my wife for Christmas. Drilled the holes in my cabinet and installed the unit. The cd player did not function. I called Sony and spent an hour on the phone. After trying several CD's and powering the unit off. They said to wait an hour with the tray open to see if there was any condensation. I did with the same result. I was glad we opened this gift on 12/24. If we had waited till the 25th it would have been outside the 30 day replacement warranty. Another Chinese product.... quality is not a goal in their products.
good unit -- don't plug into same outlet as fridge!.......2007-12-24
I have to come clean. I wrote a scathing review of this unit earlier today. Last night, I set this up in our kitchen, but after fumbling for a couple hours to get decent reception from the ac cord/antenna, I gave up. Static and poor audio from every station on the fm dial -- and we live well within the bounds of Washington DC's radio coverage (and get great reception from all of our other radios and stereos). Well, joy of the internet! I read that refrigerators can interfere with other electronics that share the same outlet and can even interfere with electronics that are simply in the vicinity. As it turns out, I had indeed plugged the radio into the same outlet as the fridge and while I had tried everything to improve receptio last night -- even adding and extension cord to increase the "length" of the ac antenna -- it never occurred to me to try a different outlet. Sure enough, that did it. Problem solved. It turns out circuits with light dimmers can have a similar effect as fridges, too. Bottom line, make sure to select your outlet carefully. Sounds great now -- what difference. Can't seem to change the rating on this, but would give it 4 stars now, at least.
Nice upgrade for our kitchen.......2007-12-24
For several years we had a one-disc under-the-shelf CD player. Since then, prices have come down and features have improved. This unit holds up to three discs, will play the play/shuffle/repeat combinations I choose and sounds great. I really enjoy having another place to plug in my iPod (will take other mp3 players too.) Handy magnetized remote control sticks to your fridge so it's harder to misplace. Installation is easy and the volume gets plenty big enough to fill the space if you want to go louder. I paid less for this than I did my first under-shelf player and this one is a lot better! I only gave it four stars because 1) my wife doesn't find the controls as easy to understand as she did the old one and 2) the orange LCD display takes some getting used to, at least it did for us. But overall, I like it a lot.
Sony ICF-CDK70 Under Cabinet Kitchen Clock Radio with CD-Changer.......2007-12-22
Order process quick and easy, delivery very fast, product well packaged, easy to install and works great. Everything we wanted.
Superior choice.......2007-12-21
Excellent product, recommended if you want a quality kitchen radio...
Pros
3 cd- disc changer
mp3/ipod adapter
strong signal quality
good sound quality
Cons
size (not as slim as one might like but a trade off to play 3 cd's)
placement (have to be careful of water and heat and in smaller kitchens with little counter space for food prep this might be a difficult unit to place)

The Best Alarm Clock money can buy!.......2007-11-14
This Sony Dream Machine CD/Alarm Clock is by far the best available anywhere at any price. I replaced my aging Sony Dream Machine (10 years old) with this one. Not at all disappointed. It's very easy to program, sounds good for 2 small stereo speakers in an alarm clock! The ice blue luminecence of the alarm clock is awesome. You can set it to Bright, Dim or Off. The LCD display is very clear, large and easy to read in all lighting. Very easy to turn off either of the dual alarms, when you don't have to get up in the morning! Awaken to alarm (which starts out soft and gets louder) or your favorite radio station (excellant FM reception by the way, not too many alarm clocks can say that!) or wake up to your favorite CD track! All very well thought out and easy to program. This alarm clock is idiot proof. Take this Sony out of the box, plug it in and the correct time is automaticly displayed. Eastern Standard time is the default. Those in other time zones just have to push a small button on the side (hidden from main buttons so you won't push it by accident) keep pushing button until your correct time zone PST, MST, etc. comes up on the display and you're done. The correct time! Note, you can also easily set it manually if you prefer. The lithium battery back-up should last 10 years. Another plus, not having to worry if the power goes out. Sony pretty much thought of everything on this CD/Alarm Clock. I've had mine for 3 months now. And I can't really think of anything I would change on it or anything extra I would add to it. Simply put, as perfect as you can get. Just like most anything Sony makes. Looking forward to using this for 10 years! By the way my nephew is using my old Sony Dream Machine, it's still working perfectly! You have to buy this Sony Dream Machine, yeah it's pricey but remember these days YOU GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR!
jn316.......2007-11-12
The best clock radio I ever bought, little buttons ,it has illumination bright illumination, no Mega Bass, get a boom box, it's an alarm clock, the sound is clean, and the stations are locked in. Buy it, you will not be disappointed
What more do you want?.......2007-11-09
This thing rocks. Sounds quality is good, not hi-fi but it's a clock radio not a surround sound monstrocity. It's got 3 levels of light that it's cool to switch with when you want more or less. Can wake to CD and pick what track.....and so can alarm #2. Easy to use. Battery backup resets the time on power loss automatically....awesome. Nap function. Sleep function. This is a WINNING product.
very disappointing!.......2007-10-26
After paying 80 dollars, I would hope that the CD player would resume where it stopped after shutting it off, rather than starting at the beginning of the CD each time. Also, there is no mega-base, so the sound sucks.
wake up.......2007-09-25
this is quality alarm clock. it has all the features somebody needs in an alarm clock. you can even hook up an mp3 player to it.

Didn't keep time.......2007-12-26
First, this Clock radio is compact and looks great, but the problem I had is that it didn't keep the correct time. Within an hour, it would be two minutes behind. Within eight hours, it would be 15 minutes slow. The front button features worked out well for me. Other than not keeping time, I would have kept this item.
Great little clock radio CD player.......2007-12-23
I found this to be a great little device. I wanted to play music in the kitchen and needed something small for on top of the refrigerator with dials that could be easily reached from that position. The radio sound and the CD sound are good and the antenna is inside the unit so this avoids having to try to turn an external antenna around to get a good signal. It will display your choice of military time or regular time. I have had a problem with keeping the "regular" time displayed as it seems to jump to the military time display somehow. Maybe this is just me and I will have to re-read the directions again. The only suggestions for improvement I might make would be to illuminate the radio station indicator bar so it is easier to see when you are searching for channels. My sister owns this unit and she bought one for me and I liked this unit so much I bought one for two family members. This is a nice product for that out-of-the-way place in your home where you'd need a small player to listen to music.
"Sleep" function doesn't work with "buzzer" mode.......2007-12-20
In general I am happy with the product. Only thing I don't like is that you can't use the "sleep" function to fall asleep to a CD or radio if you want to wake to the buzzer. You have to have the product in "buzzer" mode to use that for the alarm. To listen to the CD or radio with the "sleep" function, you have to switch it to "CD" or "radio" mode, but then you can't use the "buzzer" mode to wake unless you switch it back to buzzer before falling asleep--which then shuts off the CD or radio.
Battery Back Up DOES NOT include alarm.......2007-12-14
the battery backup is only good for when the power comes back on, then your clock and alarm is reset, if the power goes out & stays out when your supposed to wake up your out of luck, the alarm will not sound even with the "battery backup". Otherwise a very nice looking model and worked fine, but returned for another model w/ a real backup and more quality sounding speakers for playing cd's --Timex Nature/MP3 Clock Radio - T617S" Electronics.
radio.......2007-12-12
I was disappointed and that the radio does not shut off when the cd is through playing. The power stays on. The built in antenna is not strong enough to pick up stations in knoxville and static is bad, would I purchase this item again. The answer is no

Customer Reviews:
Whoa!!! That's bright!!!.......2007-12-21
So I love this clock...but it's really too bright. It lights up the whole room. I bought this clock so that I could listen to relaxation CDs to fall asleep...but...when the CD player is on, the clear rounded part that holds the CD lights up like a darn Xmas tree. I have to put something over this clock to make the room dark..other than that..It's great.
fast service.......2007-12-18
i ordered this radio cd alarm clock radio havent tried it yet it is a gift for my daughter but it arrived in excellant shape and with fast delivery
Bright lights and big cities.......2007-12-13
This item is easy to set (time and both alarms) and has fairly good quality sound although the reception is poorer than my previous radio. The main complaint I have about this product is that -- having an alarm as one of the features -- it would seem to me that most people would keep this by their bedside, like me. The problem is that the light eminating from the clock is a bright blue and illuminates the bedroom. I have to physically cover the part of the radio where the light resonates from at night or face away from the radio.
Great item for the price!.......2007-12-13
Ordered ALOT of these (approx. 80) for my workplace (skilled nursing/rehab center). Half went to each of the patients rooms and the other half went to staff who really liked them (quality is good, considering such a low price that I paid for these (9.97 each). Great features and easy to us(CD/Clock and radio). Not the best radio, but hey, it was only 9.97 each!
Way, way, better than I expected!.......2007-11-26
I can't believe all the 1 star reviews. Maybe it's just because the 3 I bought all work great. I actually LOVE the bright blue light. It doubles as a perfect nightlight for my son's room. The CD and radio both work great (the tuner is merely ok, but for 9.97 people!)
Taking into consideration the price, quality, utility, style, etc it is a 5 star value!!!! I would be happy paying 19.99 for the unit (but I am glad I got them for 10 bucks each!)
I bought one for my room, my daughter's room and the baby's room! I will update this if any of the ones I bought break down, but I sure hope not!
Happy Holidays!

For radio listening, you'll enjoy drift-free digital PLL (phase-locked-loop) tuning with 12 preset stations for 1-touch tuning convenience for your favorites (6 FM, 6 AM). Use the clock's handy Smart Knob to quickly and easily adjust all settings and major functions.
Ideal for a portable MP3 player or cassette player, the T617S's auxiliary audio input broadens your listening options to include any source you deem appropriate. Hookup with portable audio devices is a snap using the supplied stereo minijack-to-minijack audio cable.
And, just to make sure you never miss an important appointment (if only some quality time with your shower or morning coffee), the clock also comes with Timex's Sure Alarm battery backup. Just install 3 AAA batteries (not included) to activate this feature. In the event of a power failure--or if you disconnect the AC power cord to move the clock--Sure Alarm will maintain your clock and alarm settings for the life of the batteries, ensuring that the alarms will sound at the appointed time (while operating on battery power, the alarms will sound only as buzzer).
What's in the Box
Clock, FM wire antenna, a stereo analog audio interconnect (minijack to minijack), and a user's manual with warranty information.

Only One Flaw ... But It's A Biggie.......2007-12-27
I loved every feature of this CD/clock radio: the design, the easily programmable functions, and the several options for audio (Radio, CD, MP3).
But Timex totally went cheap on the speakers. They are simply awful. There's no bass output and the mid-high ranges warble so badly you wonder if the speakers are loose or cracked. The unit does sound great with headphones or stand-alone powered speakers, but who wants to wear headphones to bed? What's the point of buying $100 speakers for my $60 alarm clock?
One other small irritant. The volume is weak. I'm getting a little irritated with audio products that produce imperceptible volume until you dial it up past level 4. I mean, it's not my stereo but level 1 - 3 of volume should be level 1 - 3 ... not level 0. Wouldn't you agree?
Defective unit received, then had to repack & lug back to post office.......2007-12-22
Received the product promptly.
It worked for two days and then dropped dead. The radio just wouldn't run. Reminds you of what a hazard it is to buy stuff like this via internet. Had thrown the box out, then had to find new box, repack, and take to post office. Not worth it at all.
Last time for a Timex product.
BEST CD Battery back up alarm clock on the market.......2007-12-16
This covers all the important things i was looking for:
#1. Dimmer!!! on the clock, 3 settings, one being almost off
#2. REAL Battery Backup, works even if the power is out (so far tested batteries will last for 8+hrs maybe more-days?), time won't display but alarm will still work!...other models fool you in their description, you have to read the manual.
#3.Higher quality cd player (for an alarm clock) it's a few inches taller for the speakers but then gives it better sound.
#4. mp3 plug in and headphones
#5. 2 alarms if needed
----nature sounds were not important to me, but the clock had everything else, worth paying $30 more for this model, where other cd/alarm clocks were $30 for a reason.
Best Alarm Clock EVER!.......2007-12-13
This one I bought for a gift. I have one myself and think it's the best alarm clock I've come across. Well worth the money!
Terrible Quality.......2007-11-20
After just a few months, the speakers are not owrking properly, making the cd player a joke. The nature sounds are ok, not as relaxing as one would like.
