When I bought this unit it was for a single purpose: To be able to fall asleep despite living below noisy neighbors. I'm sure the alarm clock and radio work great, but I haven't tried either -- I've only used this item as a sound machine. As a sleep aid, it is probably one of the better values you will find on Amazon. It sports a number of different sounds, some better than others, but none of them authentic enough to make you feel like you're "there". Of course for what I'm using it for I could care less if the waterfall sounds "real" -- I just need it to block out surrounding noises and for that it works great! The volume control on the unit allows you to crank it up to the point where you'll be oblivious to just about anything going on around you with the exception of low frequency noise (e.g. bass). The single small speaker on this unit just isn't going to be able to compete with your neighbor's subwoofer and that is my single complaint when it comes to this unit. To its credit other sound machines aren't particularly good at dealing with bass either, but that fault is the only thing that keeps me from rating this unit 5 stars.

I bought this item for my 11 year old daughter. She is very sensitive to noises. It works beautifully at nightime. She alternates with the 6 different nature sounds. The volume and sound are good. She also enjoys the projection of the time on her ceiling. I definitely would recommend this clock for the light sleeper. The sounds are relaxing and block out distracting noises.

Stay away from this product.......2007-12-04
I bought this on Monday and returned it on Tuesday. First, removing the remote sensor case to install the batteries aggravated my carpal tunnel syndrome because two of the four screws holding it together were already stripped. I spent an hour trying to open it. Second, the projection feature does not show the correct and actual time (mine was stuck on the time when I first programmed the clock). Third, although it allegedly located the atomic clock signal, the time was 40 minutes behind. I was late for work that day because of it. Fourth, the backlight feature is useless; even on "Low", the display is so bright that it seemed as if an UFO had landed in my bedroom. I had to sleep with my eye mask on. To summarize, do not waste your money on this piece of junk.
Too Bright at Night!.......2007-05-15
I bought this because I really liked some of the features - the indoor/outdoor temperature, projection time, atomic clock sync. I'm returning it today though. I think Homedics forgot to test this product at night. The numbers themselves aren't lit up, so you either have no backlighting, low backlighting, or high backlighting for the display behind the numbers. Even with low I couldn't believe how much light it put in the room at night. With no backlighting you can't read the numbers at all at night. Even the projection let off a ton of light. Don't buy this if you're light sensitive at night, otherwise it's a pretty decent clock.
Not comliant with new DST changeover.......2007-03-14
I bought one of these earlier in the year to replace a similar, older model whose LCD display had become unreadable. On the whole it's a nicer, better product, but I got a rude awakening when the new DST changeover in March took place. Using atomic time, the device did not advance one hour and stayed an hour behind. Fine, I thought; until April I will turn off the ("optional") atomic time and set the clock ahead 1 hour manually. When I went to sleep, all seemed OK - but I've been an hour late for work twice already because, in the wee hours of the morning, atomic time "auto-magically" gets turned on again (despite my turning it off) and the clock goes back 1 hour. As a result the alarm goes off 1 hour late, and I'm late again for work.

I love having the outside temperature available so readily. At first the ceiling display of time and temp was strange, but now I like being able to see the time just by looking up (insomniacs might want to avoid this feature!) I will never have to set the time again or miss a morning alarm, since the time is set to the weather station and the clock uses a battery backup to make sure it will never suffer a power outage. I also think it's great that you can have two separate alarms which can be either used together or independently. That's a great feature for couples with two different wake times! My only complaint is that I don't really like the nature sounds much -- to me they don't sound like what they're supposed to sound like. Still, in my opinion they beat loud music or beeping as alarm options (p.s. those are also available to use as alarm sounds for those who prefer them).

Plain and simple - it's too bright.......2007-04-10
Everything I like about this (that it has an Aux port, that is has a projector, that it's relatively small and pretty, and that it has NatureSounds) I have to take back for one simple reason:
The clock is just too bright, even on its dimmest setting. I find that more nights than not we cover the display with a book or whatever's available because it's just that bright. And don't get me wrong - our room isn't exactly pitch black...
Not to mention the bright-blue LED's that turn on whenever you have an iPod docked. Don't plan on going to bed with an iPod on using the sleep timer.
Oh, and don't even bother using the projector (which is the reason I chose this model). even at IT'S dimmest setting (of two) it's as bright as trying to sleep outside under a full moon. It's a strange feeling waking up in the middle of the night and seeing everything around you as though it were the middle of the day, not to mention trying to fall asleep.
If you honestly like sleeping in full light, this is the clock/iPod doc for you. If not, move along.

over all this product proformes as advertised however it is lacking in some qualitys that would have been an easy add on there is no alarm volume and the level I go to sleep with is the level that the alarm wakes up with and the bass has a little to be desired but over all the product works as advertised.

I got this for X-mas plugged it in and the sound was great then I attached my ipod and the volume stopped working, I disconnected it and then unpluged the system. Now when I plug it in it emits a high pitched sqeaking and will not turn on.
Too lit up .......2007-01-06
A nice clock radio with an ipod dock, but it is so lit up at night it's like having the light on. There are only 2 settings for the light, and the low one is not nearly low enough. It is not only the clock face that is lit up, but the whole ipod dock and several buttons. I am returning this product.
iPod Nano 2nd Gen - won't fit.......2007-01-04
This unit sounds ok. And the sound-spa aspect is a nice difference. However, none of the inserts that come with it fit the "new" iPod Nano. I'm still waiting to hear from Homedics about getting an insert that fits...

This is a great product. The projection feature is great. No more sitting up to look at the clock, you can just look up at the ceiling while laying down. The sounds are very soothing. It has helped me get to sleep many times. My only gripe is that the projection is slightly on the brightside. But it has never prevented me from getting to sleep. In fact, sometimes it is nice to have a nightlight. I love this clock so much I bought one for every bedroom in my home.
