So I love this clock...but it's really too bright. It lights up the whole room. I bought this clock so that I could listen to relaxation CDs to fall asleep...but...when the CD player is on, the clear rounded part that holds the CD lights up like a darn Xmas tree. I have to put something over this clock to make the room dark..other than that..It's great.

This item is easy to set (time and both alarms) and has fairly good quality sound although the reception is poorer than my previous radio. The main complaint I have about this product is that -- having an alarm as one of the features -- it would seem to me that most people would keep this by their bedside, like me. The problem is that the light eminating from the clock is a bright blue and illuminates the bedroom. I have to physically cover the part of the radio where the light resonates from at night or face away from the radio.

Ordered ALOT of these (approx. 80) for my workplace (skilled nursing/rehab center). Half went to each of the patients rooms and the other half went to staff who really liked them (quality is good, considering such a low price that I paid for these (9.97 each). Great features and easy to us(CD/Clock and radio). Not the best radio, but hey, it was only 9.97 each!

I can't believe all the 1 star reviews. Maybe it's just because the 3 I bought all work great. I actually LOVE the bright blue light. It doubles as a perfect nightlight for my son's room. The CD and radio both work great (the tuner is merely ok, but for 9.97 people!)
Taking into consideration the price, quality, utility, style, etc it is a 5 star value!!!! I would be happy paying 19.99 for the unit (but I am glad I got them for 10 bucks each!)
I bought one for my room, my daughter's room and the baby's room! I will update this if any of the ones I bought break down, but I sure hope not!

I have to say I was surprised. I'd owned Emerson video and audio products in the past -- all right, in the mid/late-1980s -- and was not too impressed either by how they sounded or how long they lasted. I really do like this product, though. In tune with lalouisianne's review, the sound isn't anything to write home about, but it isn't lousy either. I wasn't looking for anything with a great radio tuner, so the reviewer who criticised the weakness or non-functionality of this one's didn't faze me in the least. The buzzer alarm is a nice contrast to the brightness (or friendly lack of same) of the LED time screen: it's much louder than that of the GE which this Emerson unit replaced. And that in itself is saying something (so says a fellow who grew up within earshot of GE's ordnance factories in western Massachusetts). And don't be wary of buying one from an affiliate merchant, either. WarehouseDeals are very prompt and courteous folks. That's the lot.

I had a previous Emerson radio and I like this one so much better. It has a nice sound easy to operate and the lighted time is great for at night. I play a lot of CD's and has a rich sound. Also the buttons are much easier to see and operate. Not sorry for my purchase

There is no indicator on the radio dial so you can tune. The sound itself is not bad for the money. The time is nice, large, and isn't so bright that it keeps one awake.

Do not buy this product! I purchased one for my mother, and she could not turn the tuning dial. We returned it for another, and then that one broke. Since it was purchased 60 days ago, Amazon will not handle a refund or replacement, and we must go to the manufacturer. A very big disappointment all around.

First one arrived and the cd player was locked. Thought it had been jostled in shippig so returned it while ordering a replacement. Second arrived [very quickly thanks to Amazon] and nothing worked other than the clock. Not the sound, not the tuner, not the cd player...nothing. Amazon has great customer service but this item is pure junk. Save you money and buy something else.

Excellent product for the price.......2007-02-01
I did a fair amount of research both online and in local stores to find the best CD alarm clock for my money. Most of them seemed either way to expensive or cheaply made. As soon as I saw and tested out this unit, however, I knew it was a winner. Now after having purchased it and used it for a week or two I'm really very satisfied. This unit is built to last and has surprisingly "big" sound for its size. The CD player doesn't hum or whir loudly, the display is nice and big and the features are pretty easy to use.
A couple features that I don't think you'll find out about by reading the spec. chart are as follows:
-You can set both of the alarms to CD (which many other models boasting dual alarms won't allow) and even to the same track. The second alarm just overrides the first if it's still going.
-Buzzer alarm doesn't get progessively louder but does get progressively faster, which is nice.
-Snooze button works in 10 min. increments.
-CD lid is not spring loaded and must be opened and closed manually (which was actually one reason I liked this model, seeing as how nearly all of the other models seemed to have flimsy and often very slow opening mechanisms).
-Display can be seen fairly well even from an angle (which was a problem found with various other models).

I bought this during the mad Xmas rush to keep @ my desk @work. It's small enough to fit in the corner of my work cubicle.
Actually, my rating would be a 3.5
Cons: The volume control is inconveniently located in the right hand rear corner. if you keep it at the same volume,it's ok, you don't have to hassle with reaching to the back.
Pros: a plus, the inline MP3 player connection, conveniently located in front. the large numbers for the clock; the CD loading is conveniently located at the top of the unit; the inline is very easy to use and connects instantly at the touch of a button. the top is black, so smudges, ink from your pen or oil from your fingers don't show up as easily as on white.
For the $35 I paid at the register, it's OK for the money.

I'm somewhat disappointed with Sony on this one.
CONS: The volume dial is inconveniently located on the right side, low towards the back. The AM/FM analog tuner is a dial with numbers on it. No battery back up. My unit has a slight hum at all times -- don't know if that's typical, or if mine is just defective. Sound is just OK, not great. Not as compact as description would lead you to believe (still pretty large footprint).
PROS: The clock display is large, with 3 brightness settings. Has Line-In for MP3 players.
Overall, it's just OK. I guess I shouldn't have expected too much for about $40.

1st unit was defective.......2007-08-09
I purchased this item as a birthday gift for a relative, and was very disappointed to find that the LCD display was defective straight out of the box (which was in perfect condition, so it wasn't shipping related). I certainly expected better from The Sharper Image, and now my relative didn't have a working, usable present on their birthday. Tomorrow I will exchange it, and for their sake they better immediately cross ship me a properly working unit, at the same 2-day shipping I originally paid for if not better.
As for the unit itself, it was only used very briefly before discovering the problem, so I can't write a lengthy review. The ambient effect cannot be turned on or off which was rather surprising and somewhat disappointing, however the effect is nice so that isn't a huge problem at this point. The sound quality is acceptable, though a lot more sound could certainly be packed into the space of those speakers. On that note, the pictures make the unit appear deceptively thin, when in fact it'
s tapered in the back and is actually thicker than you'd think (though not terribly so). It's very light and quite portable, even though I didn't have that in mind when I purchased it.
As far as functionality goes, well, it's your standard CD player/AM/FM Tuner, so all the expected functions are there. The remote is very small and thin and works well. The stereo required 2 AAA batteries for some reason which was unexpected, and I'm not sure yet what they're for if not to store the clock and other settings while disconnected or during an outage. If that's the case though, I'd certainly think one AAA or better yet, an internal CMOS/watch type of batter would be more appropriate.
If I had not received a defective unit I would have given this item a 3 star rating since it's very average overall (a 4 star wouldn't be out of line either). However, the fact that the one and only unit I purchased was defective has to be taken into account, especially since that points towards a high probability of a large percentage of these units being defective. Because of this I gave it a 2 star instead of 3 star rating. Personally, if I'd read this review and the other owner's review before making my purchase I would have passed on this stereo, but as long as it works properly, you could do worse.
An okay purchase for first time buyer........2007-02-08
I purchased this item from the sharper's image thinking it would be a worthwhile option for me to play my cds in my bed room. The sound quality is okay, though, not good. The better option is to get additional speakers if you want a full range sound. The LED screen is hard to read for the track number, the time and for other functions, even if you had a choice to leave the annoying blue night light on, or off. The price is not bad for the type of feature that I currently need, I don't need any additional features. It would been better if the sound was more prominent in depth for me to enjoy the music with pleasure. The remote isn't bad, and is quite convenient.

Frequent travelers will appreciate Sony's ICF-CD2000, an ultraslim clock radio that also sports a CD player, letting you either drift to sleep or wake to your favorite tunes. As an added bonus, the ICF-CD2000 includes a small pair of built-in speakers as well as a set of supplied headphones.
Pop open the brushed-aluminum lid to reveal the CD transport and control panel (tucked into the base) as well as a backlit LCD screen, clock functions, and two miniature speakers (housed in the lid). A telescoping FM antenna of questionable value juts out the back.
Setting the clock, alarm time, wake-up mode, and preset stations is refreshingly simple, and we love the world/local modes, which instantly tells the time of any time zone you assign to it. Plus, there's a button that jumps the clock back and forth between daylight-savings time and standard time, eliminating the need to reset the clock every six months.
Sony's Mega-bass control adds a welcome fullness to the sound of the ICF-CD2000's speakers, which sound too thin without it. The supplied headphones are an improvement, but here the Mega Bass is overwhelming, so use caution when switching between speaker and headphone listening.

Crap. When it worked, if you closed the cover, it would short out and I would have to reset everything. It finally went out for good when I tried to set daylight savings. Since I have not been able to close the lid without the unit shorting, it could not be used as a travel clock. Usually Sony made in China crap!!!!
When it works.............2005-04-25
...it's one of the BEST things invented. However, I have had my unit for 3+ years now and use it only for travel which I do at least once a month for days at a time. I have had this unit repaired twice (at an OUTRAGEOUS cost) due to "fried circuitry". I even bought a portable "circuit-breaker-power-strip thingy" and that didn't stop the internal stuff from frying a second time!!!
On top of this, these radios are no longer being produced, but, if yours does go out, may I suggest that your purchase a used one...it'll be cheaper in the long run. (and, might I add, last as long as getting it repaired (1 year))
I like Sony products ok, but repairing them is not fun. Good luck to those who have had no problems....I'm jealous

Nice shape and size. The speaker grill looks cool. But the CD player is the worst I have used.
Does not play audio CD-Rs that even my 5 year old boombox plays effortlessly. With regular CDs the delay before the first song comes on is longer than most other CD players - upwards of 10 seconds. Occasionally fails to play even regular CDs on the first try. No sleep timer for CD.
Looks like Sony slapped a mediocre CD player on to an otherwise good clock radio. BTW the clock supports 'World Time' but only as an offset to 'Local Time' in multiples of whole hours - it should have supported offsets in multiples of half-hour.

This is a good choice for an office radio because: a) the small size makes it easy lock in a drawer each night; b) it has an antenna that extends or retracts; c) it has digital tuning (and mega-bass); d) it can play very softly or pretty loudly; e) I can hit the stop button quickly.
Among the drawbacks are: a) the controls are not quick to find (for example: I always have to look for the CD play mode button) and not the easiest to understand; b) the high price - I think you pay for the Sony brand and the lightweight size.
