Customer Reviews:
Works fine!.......2007-12-18
I bought this to replace an older weather radio we had. The sensitivity is great, we live in a hilly region and it picked up two stations fine. It seems to be working well.
so far so good.......2007-12-03
Would be five stars except we haven't had any bad weather to test the alarm. Come to think of it, we haven't had any weather at all in Piedmont NC.
Fairly easy to program. No need to hire rocket scientist.
Nothing More, Nothing Less.......2007-07-22
This little unit is easy to set up and has the SAME functionality which is important to me since I didn't want to hear warnings for places that weren't near to me. Other units I looked at had extra options like AM/FM radio but I didn't need those features. I just wanted something that would wake me up if a tornado was coming my way. This will warn you of many other things and you can set what you want to be notified about. Follow the instructions, it's pretty easy. It also will take rechargeable NiMH or Ni-Cad batteries and keep them charged. Or, you can switch it to accept Alkaline. The battery backup is important to have. Great unit, no complaints.
So far, so good.......2007-06-23
I had been looking at the Midland model 300. But after a whopper t-storm rolled through the other night, I high-tailed it over to Circuit City for a browse. They only had this F.A. model, and it was hideously overpriced (CC is competitive on some products, not close on others...go figure). So I bought it. Set-up was easy. Haven't had any alerts yet. Will return for a revised review after the next storm hits.
Paid for itself in the first two days of use.......2007-06-06
This radio arrived (and was set up) two days before very heavy thunderstorms with hail and high winds hit my area. It was early evening and the weather looked sunny and clear outside, when this thing goes off for no apparent reason. I thought it was a mistake or false alarm, but when I turned on the cable weather channel the radar showed a huge thunder storm rapidly forming in the West and moving my way. It's very late in the Spring season right now for a storm like this and I wasn't expecting any harsh weather. I had time to get the cars under cover, find the cat & put her inside and bring in the outdoor furniture cushions before the storm hit. In our neighborhood, we lost some big limbs a few trees and some cars were damaged by hail. Fortunately, I had no damage.
The instructions are not very complicated and the set-up was much, much easier than that required for a VCR or TIVO. It has battery back-up in case the power goes off and doesn't take up a lot of space on the night stand or dresser. Also, you can program which alerts you want to hear and limit the alerts to those applicable to only the County you live in. This really cuts down on unnecessary alarms. For example, though we are in an area that can have flash floods, I don't need this warning because I don't go out in heavy rain or flooding anyway. A warning about a storm only is sufficient. I think I might get this radio as a gift for some elderly friends and relatives of mine. It's a good and very unobtrusive watchdog.

Customer Reviews:
Works great as advertised, amp rating shown on Amazon incorrect.......2007-12-20
As another reviewer has noted, the unit I received had a 600mA rating which would be consistent with what I expect for a device of this size. It was plenty for my purposes and the device worked great. Since I just bought one that worked like total crap, I still had my equipment out to test this thing in lab. Produces clean 13.0V all the way up to the advertised 600mA draw and even a bit over, though at some point the device cuts power (which is what it's supposed to do).
Giving a 4-star because of said disparity between specs. In defense of Amazon I think this may be due to a change in revision. The unit I received had a green LED to indicate it was plugged in, while the picture on Amazon does not show that. Perhaps at one time this device was rated for 1A.
Performs as advertised.......2007-11-17
This performs as advertised, but be careful on what you intend to use this for. The current output is very low - 500mA. I planned to connect the coleman air pump that needs some 5A current :(
I wish they also had a USB power-only output on this.
Amp Capacity Incorrect.......2007-07-02
The listing says that it has a 1000 mA capacity. The box with the converter says 600 mA. It did not work for what I needed it to do and I had to return it.
Creates buzzing noise.......2007-05-09
This product creates a buzzing sound. For this reason I do not use it regularly.
Perfect When You Need a Quick Charge.......2006-08-17
I take this unit travelling with me when I don't want the weight and bulk of an extra AC charger and its long, entangling cords. The PowerMax fits neatly into a pocket and comes in handy when you want to charge your phone and don't want to make a trip to the car.

Customer Reviews:
Pleased--compact, yet full-featured.......2007-07-12
I received this public alert radio as a gift. At first, I was skeptical. I had wanted an alert radio, but was unsure if this one would have the features that I wanted--specifically, the ability to silence alarms that I don't want to hear (e.g. thunderstorm watch, etc.). Although some alerts are unblockable, they are the type of alerts that I wouldn't want to block anyways (e.g. tornado warning, hurricane/evacuation warning, etc.). Thus far, the reception has been great. I do not use the alarm clock features because, even with the backlight, the clock would be very hard for me to read during the night. I really appreciate the "peace of mind" that this product provides for me. I'm impressed. It was very easy to program, too.

Customer Reviews:
A Few minor changes suggested to the product designers........2007-08-09
The product seems to work as expected so far.
It's a low-tech device so it is what it is.
I wish I'd opted for the 6-pr of speaker selector only discovered after the purchase was made with Amazon.
It seems foolish for SIMA not to add a few dollars more to the product to include LED indicators as to which speaker pair(s) are on and off. That's really the essence of the product; some speakers on, some off. Make it obvious!

Defective Radio, Bad Service.......2007-06-14
The radio arrived with a crooked display and hard to use tuning knob. The package had obviously been opened before, so I got someone else's reject. Beach Audio will not pay return shipping under any circumstances, not even for sending me a defective product!!! So I am out $12 in shipping and have no radio.
A great radio!.......2007-06-08
This is a great portable weather radio. Small enough to carry in your purse or pants pocket, your choice of using 4 AA batteries or the electrical cord that comes with it, a loud tone alert to warn you when threatning weather approaches, a nice handle for carrying, and it also makes for a great little AM/FM radio for when the weather is not threatning. The speaker is very good and better than most portable radio speakers. I read the comments up above about a little radio interfearance but you are going to experience that with all portable radios or scanners. This weather radio has an awesome telescopic antenna which you can aim for best reception. This weather radio was a great investment!
the first alert weather radio.......2007-06-08
The first alert weather radio is working fine. I am pleased with the item and would recommend this product.
Junk.......2006-03-23
I purchased one of these radios before Christmas and it works great. I decided I wanted another for work, so I ordered another one.
I recived my radio a couple of days ago and had to send it back because the "preset" weather stations are off the mark and the only thing I can pick up is distorted and garbled. They sent me a replacement and it too is off station. At this point, I'm wondering if the first one I got was the exception. I do NOT reccomend this product unless you just want an am/fm radio, that part works great.
This will be my last First Alert purchase unless I can try it out first!
I WISHED I HAD THIS DURING HURRICANE RITA!!!!!.......2006-02-04
I love this radio! It's awsome! When the clouds look bad I make sure it is tuned to my NOAA that I recive, I flip the switch to alert and it let's me know to tune in and get the latest weather update. It comes with AC adapter or you can use batteries. What more could you want?

Customer Reviews:
Need two for large houses.......2007-02-09
Overall very pleased with this Alert Radio. It is simple to set up, very easy to read the display and the radio is very clear. Only concern is if the alarm is loud enough for a two story house. It's gone off twice, once when I was downstairs (where it's located) and it seemed effective. The second time it went off, I was upstairs and thought it was the television, until a commercial came on and the alarm kept going, then it dawned on me that it was the alarm. I would recommend that there be one on each floor, much like CO2 detectors and Smoke Alarms.
One worked, one nearly caught on fire..........2007-01-01
I purchased two of these, one for work which has been installed for over a year and works great (although since it is at work it could be going off daily with the alarms as others have mentioned), and one for home. I am just getting around to setting the unit up. I opened the unit and installed five alkaline batteries and started the setup process...it began smoking in my hands after only a few minutes. I disconnected the batteries and tried reinstalling the batteries but, now it won't operate. This is fresh out of the box...and I made sure the little switch for battery type was set to alkaline...this unit is going back.
Radio reception error.......2006-12-19
Nice sound and good reception of weather channels, but radio constantly gives a weekly alarm with "radio reception error-listen to broadcast".
An emergency alert radio from a different manufacturer does not give false alarms. Poor design for automatic alerting feature defeats the purpose for having a radio with an alarm. Returning the unit for refund.
Huge waste of money.......2006-10-27
This radio is a huge waste of money and not worth purchasing. It functioned properly for a few weeks after I programmed it and then started throwing error messages on a regular basis. Then, it would cease to function about every two weeks - be completely dead. This necessitated disconnecting it from the power source, removing the back up batteries then replacing them and reconnecting it, and reprogramming ALL the functions and settings. It would then operate for another couple of weeks, and then stop again...the whole thing had to be repeated. I have finally disconnected it permanently and it is going in the garbage. I am purchasing a Metro radio and recommend that anyone in the market for a weather radio buy ANY one but this First Alert piece of shoddy workmanship.
NOAA alert radio.......2006-08-23
I bought two of these units for two houses. I am very pleased so far at the ease of use, once you set it up, which is easy also. Recently NOAA had an error in their broadcast and my radio came on and indicated that there was an error and self corrected in a few hours. Again ease of use and the right price.

5 Composite - 3 S-Video - 2 Component Video Inputs / Auto Input Sensing / Volume Stabilizer / Composite Conversion to Component / Digital Audio Conversion
Customer Reviews:
Great Switcher/Selector for this price........2007-08-04
This swithcer/Selector is great.
It switches between A/V components automatically or auto/manually or fully manually.
It has many great features such as analog audio volume stabilization, upconverting Composite to S-Video, upconverting Comopsite and S-Video to Component. Down converting S-Video to composite.
It comes with an IR remote control, but with the great auto switching you might not need the remote control at all.
It has inputs/outputs for digital audio either optical or coaxial.
So far it working great for me.
It would have been greater if it had more than two component inputs and if it converted the analog audio into digital audio.
The coaxial digital audio output jack got loose shortly after using it, althogh it is still working fine.
In general, for this price range I think that this is a very great A/V switcher.
SIMA VS 502 A/V SWITCHER WITH COMPONENT VIDEO
Solved my problems.......2006-06-12
I gave this product five stars, but I am not using it with a High Definition display.
--- edit ---
If amazon would allow me I would reduce this rating to four stars now that I've used the product for some time.
I find that my experience agrees with the reviewer who said his system would lose signal now and then, mine does it too. What seems to be happening is that the system is losing it's mind and doing a restart. The lights all go dark, then bright, then it restarts. I don't find this to be a horrible problem since it lasts only a few seconds, but the problem is real, and may explain why these units were originally returned and then refurbed.
--- end edit ---
I've plugged in a single tuner tivo, dual tuner tivo, atsc tuner, and my low cost home theatre/dvd-player.
I send the output video to the tv and the output sound to the analog sound input on the home theatre box.
I bought this unit because it includes a remote control, but I find that the automatic source switching function works so well that I don't need the remote control. I just turn the right device on and seeing the signal it switches to that source.
If you are a Tivo user your machine is always sending video and sound output, unless you put it in standby mode, which is what I am doing now. In standby the tivo still records, and available to your home network, but the output video and sound signals are turned off.
The reviewer who said that this device can only accept 3 composite inputs is mistaken. If you read the instructions you will see that the inputs marked component can also be used for composite input.
--- inaccurate comment removed ---
I am still glad I have this device.
Didn't work with gamecube and satellite.......2006-06-01
This device had everything I figured I'd want, except when I used my DirecTV R-15 and GameCube with the device, it caused my TV to lose color at random intervals. Neither device had a problem when hooked up directly.
Returned item.
Product doesn't live up to its claims.......2006-05-05
The product supposedly handles an HD source. Sort of. Yes, it does allow an HD TV to display an HD source, but every few minutes, it drops the signal and your TV goes blank. It does recover after a couple of seconds, but obviously this shouldn't happen.
The product is supposed to up-convert composite input to component output. Nope. Composite video up-conversion gives you a black-and-white picture or at best a "washed out" color picture, which may "roll" as well (readers old enough to remeber TVs with a "vertical hold" will be familiar with how the picture would sometimes "roll").
Not worth the money, Only 2 component inputs.......2006-01-23
I found this box while searching the internet for a similar device to extend my TV's 2 component video inputs. Only 2 component video inputs for $165. Come on? Don't bother! Buy the 5-DEVICE Component Video & Digital Audio Switcher by Acoustic Research, Audio Authority 1154 or the PELICAN PL957(if you can find one, every store in America is out of them). I don't recommend the JVC's under $150. I heard the video quality is not good. The red color's are not accurate. I ended up buying the CE Labs SW104HD 4 in 2 out component A/V switcher after 3 weeks of research and review reading. They average about $135 online. I'll let you know how I like it after a month of use.

Do not buy sima products!!.......2006-05-10
I bought the UDC-3x "Universal camera/camcorder charger" from Sima. This was to be my only charger for a bp915 canon battery and a travel charger for nb2L and bp511 canon batteries for my upcoming vacation. The packaging states it is a "universal charger" and claims to support canon "BP series" and others. well.....it arrives with none of the adapters for any of these batteries, but has instructions to contact SIMA if the required adapters are not included. I did so. I specified all three batteries. I was told an adapter would be sent to me. It was. BUT it only worked with 2 of the three batteries I specified. I contacted SIMA again, figuring there must be an error. "Sorry we do not make a tray for the BP-915". what about your support for "canon BP series", what about the "Universal" charger claim? Why was I not told this when I was waiting for the adapters to arrive? What about my vacation with no camcorder battery charger? SIMA took no responsibility for their false advertising, made no effort to rectify the issue. They instead started responding to my emails with canned replies along the lines of "we are sorry if you are not happy with your SIMA product......if it is defective please contact our warranty....." I cannot tell you if the charger even works with the batteries it does support because every time i look at it i want to smash it ino little pieces.
Good Product.......2006-03-28
I am very pleased with this product. It is exactly what I was looking for, and it arrived within two days of the order being placed.
