what is not like here? XM FM a.m. CD and if you come prepared you can have an iPod link (just make sure before the installer gets your radio that you have on hand the "Iplug Car Adapter" or something like that that can attach the RCA adapter in the back to a headphone jack). If you don't have the iPod link in advance then the adapter will be lost behind the installation in the dashboard.
everything worked instantly. I was able to sign up for XM within minutes of getting the radio installed. If you look online you can find some XM-promotional codes and save money right off the bat.
The radio is hard to navigate all by itself without a little bit of a learning curve, don't lose the manual! No one else is going to be able to figure out your radio unless there is a little bit of schooling.
There is a removable faceplate but good luck to somebody who steals this because they'll have to go buy XM in order to get full use, whereupon their identity would be revealed as thief because they would have signed up with the same serial number.

While the interface can be confusing to navigate at times the complete integration of XM, CD and AM/FM radio into one unit for under $100 is a great deal. If I were to have a need to purchase another head unit I am certain it would be another one of these. It would be nice if it was capable of playing mp3 disks but overall I have been pleased with this purchase.

I have just finished installing this product into my 2002 Elantra. The install went smoothly (about 1-2 hours with basic tools) and the results are simply astounding. I have yet to set up the XM option, although it is physically installed, so I cannot comment on that yet, but the receiver and CD drive work flawlessly: the AM section pulls in the sports stations that I have missed all these years with the substandard factory rig, and the sound is terrific and powerful. I cannot imagine another package like this anywhere for the price. You owe it to yourself to check this one out...

Rule one: If you are going to buy the Smart Adapter you also have to buy the XM universal tuner box regardless of what brand of car or system maker that you have. They should really try to sell these two parts together because if you have one and not the other it wont work. In this case, im commenting on the Pioneer version of the Terk box.
Rule #2: You need an SAT compatible or XM radio branded compatible car stereo for it to work also. And most people's car stereos aren't SAT or XM ready, or prepare to throw down about 150.00 to 500.00 for a decent stereo because the sound quality of these two product (both boxes) combined is really worth the money that you are paying. Some thing to keep in mind is how many text lines the stereo has to read so that you don't need to keep hitting a button to read all of the text that XM puts on their decks, another great thing about the service. The more money you spend, the more lines of text you can recieve at one time and its eaiser to use.
General thoughts: When you get all three parts together the sound quality is near CD quality. Its crystal clear and I would know having another XM radio that I use inside of my house and another car that I have. There is a pretty big difference by having it directly ran through your car stereo or big rig as opposed to having it ran through a tuner as the Roady XT. The quality of the sounds is better than good FM reception and the only downside is when you are travling next to tall buildings in a downtown or driving through National parks such as Yosemite. No radio signal is going to travel through block of granite no matter what you conect to your car stereo.
While the instructions say that you should have it installed professionally the company gives you installation insturctions inside of the box. As long as you can get the dashboard apart and locate the power to the stereo and have a place to put the two boxes (maybe one in the glovebox and one behind the stereo itself), and of course install the antenna you shoudln't have a problem hooking this thing up. And after that call don't forget to XM radio to activate it and it will be up and running.

I paid $160 installation fee to find out that the unit does not work. Ive gleaned from internet search that the wiring harness might be improperly wired, but I've not been able to secure a diagram of the correct wiring so I'm returning the unit.

Okay - so I don't have a ford car, but just getting the XM direct unit for $20 was a bargain. I bought a spare antenna for my other unit and it was $20 by itself. I noticed the price went up, but even at 50-60 bucks its still cheap. My XMDirect is used in my car at work with a small fm modulator (it sits on the floor), in my personal car on long drives (under my seat), and on my computer at home. A simple cable connects the XMDirect to the PC, and using free software, you can legally record the songs to mp3's for your player. No more buying CD's or paying to download music, or worrying about downloading music illegally! The DIN cable that comes with the ford kit can be modified for the PC, and the audio cables are useful too. About the only thing useless is the ford adapter...unless of course, you have a ford.
Got it to work.......2007-04-01
Took a little research to make the XM work in my 2004 Mustang Mach 1 but it now works. I had to move the location of one of the wires in the harness. Apparently Terk had a batch that their vendor messed up but after calling terk I received no help because my car wasn't supported. I pointed out that the 2004 Mustang was their installation vehicle so there was no reason why it wouldn't work. Mine said NO SAT until I moved the wire. I have posted pictures on the Mach 1 registry if anybody needs to see what wire to move. It's nice having the controls in the stereo although it is somewhat quieter than normal radio so I have to turn up the volume a bit. All in all I'm satisfied but some help would have been appreciated.

There is a problem with this product and the manufacture is aware .The problem is 1 of the power wires is in the wrong place and it won't work unless you move it to the correct position in the plug .If you purchase this product contact Audiovox ,the manufacture , and see if they can help you move the correct wire into the correct position or follow the link below and do it yourself .If your not mechanically inclined then don't buy it until they correct the problem.Audiovox will warranty the defective piece I believe but the fix is easy.
When I installed it the box in my 2005 lincoln LS it did not work and the radio read " No Sat " when the button on the deck was pushed .At first I thought it was my install but it wasn't so I went online and found the fix on a website.....here's the link to the fix

If you follow this fix ,takes like a couple of minutes to do ,then the box works great .Overall I'm happy w/ this product and its such a nicer install then having a fm modulator on your dash .Its all hidden and you would never know the vehicle had xm.I even have the antenna in the centre of the dash and it works excellent w/o any reception loss as far as I have seen .
Hope I helped some of you out ...I'm sure some were people are pulling there hair out over the problem

My 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 has a RBQ radio which has a 6 disc CD changer. My girlfriend has XM in her Solstice and loves it and wanted to get me XM radio for my birthday. I was concerned about changing out the radio because it has some good features, including the CD changer. We went to Circuit City and found out about XMDirect. They didn't have the adapter for Chrysler/Dodge and said they couldn't order it because of the Sirius and XM merge, obviously XM isn't shipping any additional equipment to the stores until the merge is completed, but they did say that they would install it for $50 if we found a kit. We started searching online and most of the kits were $250. We went to Ebay and found the complete kit for $49. We received the kit and it was new, still sealed in the box. Took it to Circuit City and within 2 hours it was installed. Contacted XM online and put in the Radio ID that was on the box and bingo...XM. You can also find the Radio ID on channel 1 on my radio.
The RBQ still works exactly like it did before XM except that when you press mode it now includes XM. I like the way the radio continuously scrolls the song title, artist and channel on AM and FM stations but it doesn't do this on XM. It scrolls the song title once then goes back to the main screen which is a partial song title. You can press the tune button to scroll throught the title, artist, etc. This could be a limitation of XM and not the XMDirect unit because the Solstice doesn't scroll either.

My wife and I bought a Chrysler Pacifica and it came with Sirius service. We had XM on previous vehicle and liked it much better. This is SO much better than the factory system. you can view the artist, channel, title of song. (you do have to use the favorites on the actual radio). The buttons on the steering wheel still work. It took me about Half a day to instal as you have to route the antenna wire from the back of the car and this requires removing some of the interior car panels. A socket set and screwdriver is really all you need. you will need to get online and spend about 10 bucks for the instructions on how to remove the radio (for a Pacifica anyway) All of the boxes fit behind the radio. I attached them with zip ties.

Doesn't Work With RB4 Navigation.......2006-03-17
It took Amazon 2 trys to get me the right product. At first they just sent me the interface. Had to email them, then they sent me the XM tuner and antenna.
Pulled out the RB4 factory navigation radio out of my HEMI Ram and hooked everything up. Hit the mode button and the screen came up on XM channel and I heard the preview channel. The only problem was I couldn't change the channel. Something with the interface doesn't control all the functions. As a test I pulled the RB4 and installed an RAZ factory CD/Tape deck and it worked perfect. Oh well...If only it worked with the navigation. It is a very cool product. Installed super easy and sounds way better than the XMs that run through the FM tuner.
Finally XM in my Dodge Caravan.......2006-03-16
The Dealer told me they couldn't install this kit because it would replace my dvd player. This kit has a bypass so both can be installed (or a cd changer instead of the dvd). Installation was easy (once I figured out how to get the dash cover off). System works great and can't be beat for the price.
