excellent product bought it for an ipod 4th generation 20 gig.......2007-08-16

i just tried it today it works really nice. i actually use it for my regular ipod 4th generation 20 gig. if u do want it for that you are going to have to get the plastic covering off though. i did that by taking a sodering iron and melting the whole pretty much top off and it took awhile and i burnt my leg but it was all worth it cuz i got it for like 9 dollars too which is so much better then 50 dollars at target. woot!

Not Such a Great Product.......2007-08-11

I bought this with the soul purpose of charging my ipod in the car - the fm transmission has lots of white noise - when using a cassette adapter via the headphone jack, eq settings are over-ridden as well as volume setting. Eventually the socket came undone and launched the fuse into the car making it unusable till I found another fuse. I now have an adapter from crutchfield that plugs directly into my cd changer controller and works (clean sound) much better as well as keeping the ipod charged.

Not the product that's advertised.......2007-05-19

This product states that it is compatible, via trays, for an iPod nano as well. When I received it, this is also printed on the box several places. However, upon trying to fit my nano in the tray I found that there is no way it will fit...anyone who has a nano knows that the plug on the bottom is offset slightly. So, a mini ipod would fit perfectly as it's plug is centered. The 2 pieces were about 1/16 of an inch off and there is absolutely no way it would fit...4 of us tried!!! This was a big disappointment. I ended up going to a local RadioShack and buying the correct one. I was very disappointed in Belkin for this product as they usually put out very good items!!!

I have no idea how well the TuneBase actually works because it is not compatible with 5th generation ipods like the product description claims it is. DO NOT buy this if you have a 30 gig 5th generation ipod!! The ipod will not fit in the tray!!!

I'm sure this item works fine. IF and only if you live in an unpopulated area. Unfortunately for my hopes of using this, I live in New York City. While there are completely empty stations on the FM dials, unless you're leaning the PodFreq against the antenna, 'bleed over' from other stations interferes in its use.

If you're planning on using this in your car, as I was, save the money and invest in a direct line-in to your car stereo.

This car/iPod adapter was very easy to use, and it held my iPod in a very comfortable position to use while driving. BUT, I can only speak from my ONE experience with it as the connector broke off in my brand new iPod! Luckily it was so brittle that with a little jiggling, it fell apart and out of my iPod.
It then fell directly into the trash.

This product only lasted 3 months, and it wasn'y easy to turn on & off. Power button had to get pressed for several seconds to make it work. And transmitter's design it's not to best to reach it. OK for the low price I guess ($15).

I have yet to find a FM Transmitter for my iPod that sounds good. BUT, this does work great as a charger and holder for my iPod. But I'm not completely sold on the sound. So far, the best sound I found is using the cassette adapter, which I know is quickly becoming obsolete.

The idea of the product is great, but the delivery leaves a bit to be desired. It charges great, holds onto the device great, but the FM transmitter part is far from great. The sound quality is horrible, very muffled. I use it only to charge my ipod on the way to work.

I just got this item 2 days ago. I have tried other FM transmitters and all I heard was static (Yuk!). I bought this item and I tell you, it was worth every dollar, it was %100 static free!!! Hek yes! You will not be dissapointed with this item, buy it if no other transmitters work. I have heard this item sells for $200+ I can see why it sells for that much, it works great.

Terrific Little Speaker with Clear, Strong Sound.......2007-09-07

After reading several dozen consumer reviews describing laptop speakers I puchased this one. You simply plug it into your laptop, or USB hub, swivel the gooseneck to position the speaker where you want, and you've got an excellent speaker that fits in a small laptop utility bag.

The only complaint I have is that there is no quick volume control; once you've plugged it into your USB port, it overrides the laptop's volume control "knob". You have to open the volume icon in your Control Panel every time you want to adjust the speaker volume, which can be too slow when you're being blasted by a loud video.

This is not to say that there is anything wrong with the volume modulation in the speaker itself, just that there seems to be a wide volume range across items I view--YouTube, email messages with videos from friends, etc.

If this speaker had a volume control knob it would be perfect!

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR DELL LAPTOPS.......2007-09-02

After several weeks of light, mid-volume use, the speaker stopped working on my Dell Latitude D500 and I began receiving error messages noting a "device malfunction". After trading emails with J-Lab customer service, I was instructed to return the speaker by mail (at my expense) for a refund. The refund I received was 80% of the original purchase price because, according to J-Lab, the device was still "working" upon receipt. The representative handling the return acknowledged that there has, in fact, been a history of compatibility issues with Dell laptops-- in other words, a "working" speaker may not always operate correctly when connected to a Dell laptop. Is trying this speaker on your Dell worth the risk of paying two sets of shipping charges, losing 20% of the purchase price, and spending time emailing representatives and repacking/mailing the device? If not, maybe it's worth considering alternatives.

Are we listening to the same speakers?.......2007-08-08

We bought this speaker for our Gateway M505 Media Laptop on a recent trip. The M505 has reasonable speakers for a laptop, but their volume level isn't quite strong enough for us to be happy--we'd always find ourselves straining to hear dialogue from movies.

From reading the reviews I honestly thought this would solve our problem in a nifty self-contained USB-powered fashion.

For us it didn't.

We found the speakers to be nearly identical to the M505 speakers, and while the B-Flex did give us the tiniest improvement in volume, it wasn't enough to really give us adequate volume, or the "big sound" many reviewers have mentioned. Also, there is no way a speaker the size of these can give the kind of frequency response any level of audiophile would be happy with.

So, who should try out this speaker? If you have standard tinny sounding laptop speakers (the almost nonexistent kind), these will be a big improvement. Also you will like the fact that it is USB powered so no batteries, no cords are needed.

However, having said that, I really think the bottom line is, to get truly better sound, you need to use a powered speaker. I think some of the JBL's may be the way to go.

For cost of these guys, unless you catch them on sale, my advice is to keep looking. We had to return ours. (Thanks to Amazon a really fair & generous return policy).

My boyfriend bought me this speaker. It is plug-and-play. On my computer, often movies are not loud enough for some reason and with this speaker it's as loud as we could possibly want. Also I can blast my music throughout the house from my laptop - before I could not because it sounded horrible at high volumes.

I'm not much of a sound expert, but I think it sounds pretty good.

Unless your car stereo includes a cassette deck (increasingly rare) or an auxiliary input (more common among newer stereos) combined with the appropriate adapter, you simply haven't had the means to play your extensive iPod library through your car's speakers. Several companies, however, have sought to fill this void by releasing a product called an FM transmitter, which broadcasts iPod tunes via the FM airwaves. Griffin Technology is among the category leaders with its iTrip mini, a discreet little device that fits unobtrusively on top of the iPod mini. The iTrip mini isn't confined to car stereos--it plays on almost any FM radio--but because most home stereos and boomboxes have auxiliary inputs, it's most popular as a car accessory.

Design and Setup
The iPod mini is loaded with impressive features, but it's also an Apple product, which means that looks matter. A lot. And Griffin clearly recognizes this, because the iTrip mini is sleek and complementary. It's built to fit into the iPod mini's headphone and remote ports, from where its all-white body looks like an extension of the mini itself. Plus, the device measures less than an inch tall and exactly as wide as the mini, so it takes up almost no extra space--an important feature to people who value the mini's portability. The iTrip mini also works when plugged into full-sized iPods with dock connectors, but it doesn't fit as well shape-wise. Owners of full-sized iPods can buy alternate iTrips designed with their players in mind, including iTrips for 1G and 2G FireWire iPods, 3G and 4G iPods with dock connectors, and special-edition black iPods.

The iTrip mini is designed to broadcast to any empty FM frequency on your dial--depending on where you receive the best reception--but it's only configured to play at 87.9 MHz right out of the box. That means a little setup is required using the included CD-ROM and iTunes. Fortunately, the installation is painless and takes only a few minutes. The installer adds a playlist to your mini (through iTunes) called iTrip Stations, which consists of a series of short audio files that correspond with all available FM frequencies.

Features and Performance
The iTrip mini performs best when tuned to an FM frequency that plays nothing but static, with no audible words or music. Finding a good frequency is fairly easy, but it requires your full attention, so it's best to do so while parked. We tested the iTrip mini on three separate frequencies in a midsize market with varying success. The sound was generally good in two of the frequencies, less so in the third. This remained true whether the device sat next to the radio, in the backseat, or under a stack of newspapers. While driving through bad FM reception areas, the iTrip mini received a bit of static, but it usually passed in a couple of seconds.

The iTrip mini is designed more for convenience than elite audio performance, so listeners shouldn't expect CD-quality sound. When tuned to a clear frequency, it's about on par with the average FM station. If the volume is turned high, users might notice a slight hiss through the speakers, but engine hum and road noise will generally cover that up. However, listeners who value top-quality sound--especially people with expensive speaker systems that pick up every minor flaw--may instead want to add an auxiliary input to their car stereos to get the most from their iPod minis.

The main drawbacks to the iTrip mini are fairly minor, but will bother some users. First, the iTrip Stations playlist is stored as part of your overall music library, meaning the individual audio files can emerge during shuffle play--and the sound isn't pleasant. Listeners can remedy this by creating a new playlist with their entire music libraries minus the iTrip Stations files. Second, the iTrip mini draws its power from the iPod mini battery. This is actually both a plus and a minus, as it means you don't need to keep buying new AAA batteries every week, but you also won't receive as much power from each iPod charge. If this bothers you, consider purchasing an auto charger, which powers your iPod mini through the cigarette lighter adapter while you drive. Third, the iTrip mini isn't great for long road trips through crowded regions, because the available FM frequencies may change every 40 or so miles (or less), making it necessary to frequently retune the iTrip mini. On the flip side, it's great for long drives through the country.

Ultimately, the iTrip mini is a good value. The convenience will please iPod fans that have been clamoring for a way to play their music in the car. Audiophiles may want to look elsewhere, but most other listeners should be satisfied. --Rivers Janssen

I was really excited when I heard about this product, but once I got it the excitement faded. The sound quality is poor. At times all I can hear is a lot of static and I have to move the IPod around in order to get better reception.

I loved my iTrip. Then it broke. The little part that sticks in to my ipod broke off while floating around in my purse somewhere. I really should have been more careful. But silly me I thought it would be well made. What is these days?
Sometimes the iTrip will cut off out of no where but I forgave it because having my ipod take over every radio I came near was priceless. I really need to get another one. I miss it :(

Works with no problem........2007-08-03

The quality of material is pretty good and is in sync with the shape of the ipod. The only problem with the fm transmitters are that the quality of the songs goes down pretty bad. You are better off using a aux wire which I did. I still use the fm transmitter to play it over my music system.

If you decide to buy this, please set the frequency to something other than the default one as every person has it set to 87.9. Or else half the time you might end up listening to somebody else's music rather than yours!

Okay, first off, I loved this product! It worked, for the most part, flawlessly and I was able to enjoy my ipod everywhere. However, after about 6 months of enjoyment, it broke! So I bought another one and a few months later, it broke too! I tried using the support page online and that didn't work either. So now I am sad because I can no longer utilize my ipod to its fullest extent. I have thought about buying another one because it is one of the cheapest transmitters out there, but I hesitate because they just don't last.

My daughter uses her transmitter any time we travel for long periods of time! Reception is great most of the time, but we sometimes get interference from other transmitters in the area. Overall, a great buy and I highly recommend it!

I really thought the reviews for this item were probably a little over-blown, but the speakers have proven me wrong. As someone who primarily uses their laptop on the go, I have been looking for a set of small, easily transportable, decent sounding speakers. These fit into all three categories. I am pleasantly surprised by the fullness of the sound that they put out. If you're strictly an audiophile, you'd be better off investing in a good set of Bose headphones, but if you need something to quickly and efficeintly plug and play so other people can hear what is on your laptop, then you won't find a better buy for your money.

Know what generation your IPod is.......2007-09-27

This unit may work fine, but not on the IPod I have. The description provided led me to believe it would work, but I have the wrong kind of IPod. That is probably why this was so cheap - it's a real old product. Apple doesn't make it that easy to figure out what you have either. I finally did and ordered another product. So, if you're looking for a transmitter, be very sure you know what kind of IPod you have before ordering.

Better Than Expected.......2007-03-08

So far we've used this product on the open road and in town. We get good reception as long as the iPod is near the radio. We've had only a small amount of static interference in town and that was in areas with lots of power lines. It works well and considering the tape player in the car died is a heck of a lot better than listening to nothing in the dead zones between towns. We do a lot of traveling and it will be a nice addition to our listening repertoire. I think the bad reviews are just because people were expecting something more than these types of devices can deliver. I would recommend you try one out, especially at the new low prices.

Ipod Mini FM Transmitter.......2007-02-23

This device is easy to use and works fairly well. It only works well at short ranges, less than 6 feet. Good for static applications at home or in a car. Does not work well if you are carrying the unit and moving around. Changing positions affects the signal strength and clarity. Much easier to use and performs better than the iTrip. I have an Itrip and it is hard to change channels, requiring a file to be run.

The signal is the best in almost any car, better than everything else I have tried. I have a mini so I don't know if its different than anything else and also its only like $6 so its really cheap compared to everything else.
