Not bad.......2007-05-15
I was wishy-washy as to whether I should get the unit with or without the remote and I'm glad I chose this one. The buttons on the remote aren't exactly easy to decipher but I just use the volume buttons anyway. Not bad for the price either. The blue light is a little annoying because it's always on but not a huge deal for me either.
Great dock for price!.......2007-02-02
This is a good deal at the low Amazon price. The only problem I had was the USB cable that came with the unit was defective. I used another spare cable and it worked fine. The remote is a little cheesy, but it does work. Some of the buttons have a weird symbol that takes some experimenting to figure out.
Soooo, overall this is well worth the price. It was compatible with my G5 60 Gb video iPod.
Inexpensive iPod dock delivers on promises.......2006-12-01
I was wary about purchasing this item because I could find no formal reviews discussing it online, and the price was too good to be true. (The Apple-brand version of this device costs $99.) Now that I've hooked it up, I'm very impressed.
It's sound and video output work exactly as described - and the quality is quite good to my untrained ears. The dock, while not very sturdy or heavy, is beautifully designed & contains adapters for almost all iPod types. And of course, your iPod charges while it's in the cradle. (Via power cable, USB cable, or Firewire cable -- all included.) The only thing not included with this device is a S-Video cable, but that's not necessary for it to work.
The remote has a futuristic look with a clear blue plastic rim that lights up when you press buttons. Unfortunately, its usability leaves something to be desired with small buttons in a non-standard layout.
This device does not have on-screen display of music information (ie. current track, artist, album info) or navigation choices when using the remote. So finding the right song on your iPod is nearly impossible without walking over to the iPod and using its scroll wheel manually. To get such on-screen display, you need the Griffin TuneCenter or DLO HomeDock Deluxe (for ~ $130).
In short, this is a GREAT product for the $29 I paid. I only wish I had bought it 6 months ago!
lousy sound quality, even at $43.99.......2006-07-26
I have returned this item to Amazon; I paid $43.99 when they had it in stock. The audio out on this dock is a stereo mini (1/8") jack, the connection is terrible from then getgo, with low volume, distortion, and noise when the jack is jiggled.
I would highly recommend the dock they're currently selling at Radio Shack for $29.99. It has RCA outputs on the back and excellent sound quality, it charges, and the remote has a menu button.

Customer Reviews:
It works but needs design improvement.......2007-10-16
I really miss the iJet remote on my old ipod, it is much nicer but is not compatible with my new 5G video ipod. My ipod mostly lives on a shelf feeding my stereo though I'll occasionally use it in the car on long trips. This was the only compatible remote I found that had a small wireless transmitter.
The transmitter buttons are very flush and it's easy to hit the wrong one. No way to easily put it on a keychain. The assorted faceplates are pretty pointless though I did stick the black one on there to make cleaning any dirt from my hands easier over time. Note that this does NOT come with batteries; you'll need to go buy a coin type CR-2032 which is easily available. -1 star for transmitter.
The receiver unit sticks out like a sore thumb from the bottom of the ipod, especially if you have a power cable plugged in. It can be hard to keep seated if the ipod is in a case since it doesn't click in like the cables do. Might be a problem for joggers or those moving it around a lot for whatever reason. I really like the pass through feature, but that doesn't work so well if the entire thing loosens up. Once seated, it's worked well with anything else I plug in, such as power charger or FM transmitter. There is a jack in the receiver for listening, and the transmitter volume controls only work if you use this jack instead of the ipod's jack. But since it loosens so easily, I prefer the one at the top of the ipod and just forego using the remote volume controls. -1 star for the receiver.
This also comes with an armband that I don't think I'll ever have use for. There is also a plastic box to make it bigger in your hand if you want (I don't), and the neck string is hidden in a compartment in the back of of this box.
Not as nice as the iJet, but for my uses it's defintely better than nothing!

AWESOME!.......2007-03-08
I have been looking for a remote for my old ipod for a long time, did'nt think they existed. forward/ back to next song, pause, play, volume controls, fits in your pocket even has an input for headphones.
Eh..........2007-02-07
It works if there's a direct line of sight to the reciever. In other words, if the ipod is lying down horizontally, it won't respond. You'll want to use a dock or something else to prop it up vertically for it to work.
Check compatibility.......2007-01-07
Thought this would work with my new iPod Shuffle, but no. Super deal IF you have the right iPod. I offered the two items as give-aways to co-workers, but I had a long line of folks who tried them on their newer iPods and failed to get them to work. If you have an OLDER iPod, you're likely to succeed with these.
Could NOT Get This Remote to Work.......2006-08-05
I bought this remote to use with my Ipod 20G with Clickwheel and, despite installing as instructed, I could not get this to operate. It fit the Ipod very well, so I figured I would not have a problem. I have also used Maxell products in the past and also haven't had any problems. The remote lit up, but it would not operate any of the functions when I pointed it at my Ipod. Maybe this is a great product and I did something wrong, but it is easy to install and mine would not work. I returned the remote to Amazon as defective and received a refund for it. Again, this might be a great product, but I wanted to write a review to warn other customers that I had problems with it.
Good helpmate.......2006-02-05
If you can get one for a good price ($
<15), it is an excellent add-on for the casual iPod user, although the number of functions will be too limited for many users. (I suspect the buttons on the remote would wear out for the heavy remote user.) It is quite basic in functions (volume, track advance) . The range of the IR seems to be limited to around 15 feet (medium room light level) and an angle of +-35 degrees.
