Very nice design...except!.......2007-08-31
I really like the Sidewinder Spectra. The case seems substantial and sturdy and the earbud winder is a great asset.
However, if you use any type of earbud other than the very skinny iPod standard issue, you won't be able to use this case. The sliding cap which protects the bottom of the ipod and holds it into the case, does not accomodate any other sized earbud, especially the L-shaped plugs.
Unfortunately, this flaw renders the case unusable for me.
I'm looking foward to the next version of this product!

Sidewinder Spectra Flawed.......2007-05-12
I was very excited about the Sidewinder concept for my new Nano. I have always had difficulty with long earphone cords while exercising. I thought this would be a great solution to my problem. Along with the Sidewinder, I also purchased the Marware Mobility kit so I could attach the iPod to the dash of my car and the handlebars of my bike. When setting this all up I discovered two immediate flaws in the design. The retainer for keeping the Nano in the Sidewinder is on the bottom. It is just a small piece of plastic that slips into the case and is held in place basically by friction. The retainer has an earphone hole, but no provision for attaching the docking cable. This raised two issues, 1) I was unable to clip the sidewinder into the mobility holder in the car and attached it to my dock power/cassette adapter without the Nano falling out. I solved this problem by using a Dremel tool to port the retainer to accept the dock cable then Super Glued the retainer in place. Problem 2 was that I didn't trust this setup for attaching to the Marware bike holder on my handlebars. I immediately had visions of the glue failing, the clip backing out and my Nano ending up on the highway.
If you just want use this for managing the earphone cable for on-body use, this is a very clever and well made solution. In my case it didn't work for attaching to Mobility Kit for the dash or the bike. I would suggest placing a small piece of thin ethafoam inside the top the Sidewinder to keep the Nano from rattling around.
Non-standard earbud/headphone plug does not fit.......2007-04-09
I ordered this case because of the clever concept -- it seems like a great idea to keep you earbud cable in order via the iPod case itself.
However, when receiving the actual product I saw encountered flaws and drawbacks. First, the case was light plastic and felt pretty cheap. I currently use an iSkin case (iSkin Nano 2nd Generation - Groove Pack). It is composed of harder plastic and rubber, which feels more substantial (and perhaps more able to withstand a drop) than the Sidewinder. Furthermore, the plastic on the face of the Sidewinder was lightly scratched, apparently just from rubbing against the inside of its packaging.
I saw the above as just minor drawbacks. The big problem for me: there is a piece of plastic which covers the bottom of the Nano, where the headphone/earbud jack is located. There is a hole in this plastic to allow you to plug the earbuds into the iPod. Standard iPod earbuds fit fine. However, I do not use the standard iPod earbuds. I tried plugging in both Koss earbuds (Koss SPARKPLUG - Stereo In Ear Ear Plugs) and Shure E2c earphones (Shure E2c-n Sound Isolating Earphones (Black)). Neither fit because their jacks do not have the same shape as the standard iPod earbud jack.
I consider this a major problem. Because of this, I sent the product back for a refund.

this product is very practical and protects my ipod at the same time. The screen protector is hard plastic and i dont have to deal with the ipod sticking to it. The side winder can be slid open and close so i can store the earphones without having to deal with tangled wires everytime i need it. 5 star to this product.

Good case, but extra features don't add much........2006-12-01
I have tried several different cases for my 80gb iPod and I've stuck with this one. First, it does what a case should do -- protect the iPod; but it also feels good in the hand, with the same feeling of brushed hard rubber as many TV remotes have.
The trapdoor at the bottom makes for easy syncing and secure coverage of the port. The top, with slots for access to the jack and hold switch, slides away making it easy to remove the iPod. A couple of other cases I've tried are a real struggle to get the iPod out and you must wiggle it in, like putting on too-tight shoes. This one works smoothly.
Those are all to the good. The biggest claim this particular case has, however, is its unique pullout spool to wrap your earphone cables around (Sidewinder, get it?). Great idea, doesn't really work. The spool is not built strongly enough into the machine to withstand jostling without coming off so you don't want to leave it out as you toss your iPod into your pack. And while the spool could act as a shortener for your cables, leaving the spool out as you use the iPod is also awkward.
The kickstand folds out of the back like the support on a picture frame and does prop the iPod at a comfortable angle for viewing. But who does that? The kickstand fulfills a need that I don't believe exists. With a small screen like this, it would be unsatisfactory to stand the iPod on, say, an airplane tray-table and watch a movie. It would be too small to see.
Therefore I give it four stars for being a good case, but can't go all the way to five because its touted extra features aren't really a significant addition.
