Defective Unit- Horrible Customer Service.......2007-12-17
When I hooked my 3G Nano up to my car with the 33199, I heard music for 1 sec before it went dead and froze the I-pod. Resetting the I-pod restored it but the same thing continually happened. Tried it in another car...same thing. Calling customer service will take you to some far-away land where people have extreme difficulty comprehending english and are flummoxed if you say anything that is not in one of there 'scripts'. After phoenetically spelling my name,address, e-mail, etc at least 3 times before they had it correct, they are hopefully sending me a new unit....BUT the service rep said THEY NO LONGER MAKE MODEL 33199, AND ARE REPLACING IT WITH MODEL 33411,
so I wouldn't even bother ordering this unit, and my experience with technical service was so frustrating, I will never buy a Kensington product again.

Plug and go ... awesome little gadget. Only issue came up when in New York for a weekend. Fewer radio frequencies to choose from which I suppose happens in all metropolitian areas. Highly recommend for anyone with iPod and car not pre-wired.

I bought this product about 8 months ago, expecting it to last a while. About a month ago, the protective black plastic over the port that plugs into the iPod came off, revealing whatever material is underneath, but no wires or anything. I use this thing every day, on the way to work and back, on the way to the gym and back, etc., and thought it would be durable enough to handle multiple daily insertions. At first, the adaptor was unaffected, but in the past couple weeks, the audio quality has been horrible, scratching in and out from nothing, to only bass, to full blast--on radio stations that worked perfectly before. I know it doesn't have anything to do with the iPod itself, because I can still listen to it clearly using a pair of headphones.
This product was a dream until the port's covering fell apart. I guess you should be really careful with it and not carry it around in a purse, where it can jiggle around all day.

I bought one with my iPod nano 8g and it failed. It was my fault, however. I let the end that plugs into the iPod fall on the floor of my work truck and my water jug sweat onto the end and the tiny terminals inside completely disappeared within a fungus-like layer of corrosion. I quickly acquired a much cheaper replacement thinking all are the same and I quickly discovered they aren't. Not even close. This tuner is far superior in every way. In this niche, you get what you pay for. I bought a Belkin and let's just say after two months of unreasonable static (I couldn't hardly make out music 90% of the time, seriously), it lit my rather short fuse for inferior junk and ended up being the centerpiece of a hammer-smashing party. I destroyed it to oblivion and smiled with retributive glee until my peers became concerned. I quickly went back online and spent the extra money for my lovely Kensington. My life has actually improved since. The difference: Kensington is a high-quality digital tuner and my Belkin was not digital. I can even put it in my work truck and tune a radio about twenty feet away on a jobsite or even another car or house radio. I love it.

Apparently Monster has some real quality issues, this is my second bad experience with their products. Unit intermittantly stops transmitting, have to unplug to reset. Autoscan......great idea....needs more work. 120 sec to scan and you still have a busy station. Amazon was great on the return policy though, prepaid shipping.

I have tried the old monster cable and wasn't very happy with it as there was a lot of static with it. This auto scan cable allows you to do a search to find the clearest channel. We've had the new cable for about a month and would recommend it to others.

I purchased this product last week because a few people i know have used this and said it is the best fm transmitter for the ipod. 5 minutes after it came in i went to my truck to hook up my ipod, there was nothing. I am not sure why, but the radio station will not appear on the ipod touch screen and will not allow you to know what station you are tuned into to set your radio to. On monster's website ( as of 12/3/07) this is the first product listed on the page for touch accessories. After waiting on hold for over 30 minutes to talk to a tech support rep. from monster, i found out that the page on www.monstercable.com was wrong and that if you have a ipod touch, you should not buy this. Monster agreed to send me the correct one in exchange for this one. The one that is being sent to me is the Monster iCarPlay Wireless Plus.

I purchased this to use in conjunction with a Sony Cassette adapter. (I could also have used it with my iRiver wireless transmitter if I hadn't just thrown it out in frustration.) It plugs in, it works, it's a beautiful thing. The extra USB cable is nice but not vital.
It's inexpensive and it works. What more could I ask for?

I bought this and another company's DC charger from the Apple store. This one works great. I gave the other one away and bought a second one of these. Compact, easy to plug in and use with my iPhone. I highly recommend this one.
Does the Job and Cheap (Good/Bad).......2007-09-18
I was looking for a simple iPod charger for the car, already having a 3.5mm stereo input jack on my stereo, and this does the job well. I like that the cigarette lighter adapter part of the charger is not hardwired; it has a female USB socket, into which you can plug the supplied male USB to iPod plug or male USB to male mini-USB cable (great for my fiancee's phone). This means that if I lose the Griffin cable, I can still use the standard white USB iPod cable for charging.
The reason I take off a star is because I dropped the cigarette lighter adapter part on the ground while walking on the sidewalk, and the shell came apart and several metal pieces went flying. It's commendable that even if it "breaks" like this, no plastic was actually harmed and it can be re-assembled fairly easily. I'm still missing one of the non-essential metal pieces, however, and thinking that the only thing holding the part together is the close fit of the cigarette lighter worries me a little.
All in all, it's an inexpensive and versatile product and if it weren't for my clumsiness it would have no visible faults.

It's hard to get excited about a car charger for your iPod or iPhone, but this one's great. First, it's black which better matches the interior in most cars that the more prevalent white. Second, the blue power indicator is square, soft and elegant - not a harsh round red LED. Third, and most important, the power cord can be detached from the adapter and used as a secondary iPod/iPhone cord. It's also a nice heavy gauge of wire. I definitely recommend this over any other auto charger!

I use the Griffen Smartdeck which requires the hook up through the ipod connector (not the headphone jack), therefore I could not have it charging at the same time. The Kensington has the pass through feature and works great with the Smartdeck.

There is no way that any ipod owner wants to remove a cover to charge their ipod in the car. The plug into the ipod has a larger than necessary base. The cord is sturdier than the one provided by Ipod to plug into your laptop but so what if you don't get to use it. I am returning this.

Way better than FM Transmitters.......2007-10-18
The Griffin 9555-TFLEXC works best with first generation Ipod Nano. For 2nd generation Nanos get the 9556-NTFLXAUX. TuneFlex works great if you can plug it directly into the car's stero system using an auxillary cable with 1/8" (3.5mm) jack rather than a cassette adapter. Only newer car's have this jack, but you can get an Aux cable installed directy into your car for around $100 by businesses that install sound systems into cars.
Going through the cassette deck with a cassette adapter only works so-so; the sound is quality is fair. We tried a couple differnt brands of cassette adapters with no appreciable change.
Please note that the FM transmitters (TuneFlex IS NOT this type of device)do not work well at all in urban or rural areas; other stations constanlty interfere. Do not buy any type of FM transmitter thinking it will be better than the cassette adapter type. As I said, you will be most happy with a direct wire situation through an Aux cable.

First off, read the specs on this item before you buy it. Amazon states it's for 1st generation Nanos only. The tight fit into the 12V adapter is good, the arm is stiff enough that it will not move on its own. The cradle holds my iPod well and the audio out at the base has no static. I have a direct line into my headunit (don't need the tape). I think the only option this does not have is to turn the charge on and off. I don't know how constantly charging (even when car is off) will affect the battery life. Most car chargers do not offer this. This product fits my application perfectly.
NOT for 2nd Gen Nano!.......2007-03-01
The cradle does NOT fix a second generation iPod nano. I bought this for my brand new 8GB black ipod nano, and the curves on the base of the dock keep the nano from seating firmly. Every time I go over a bump, the ipod gets disconnected and stops playing.

The cradle/charger part works great -- IF you use it with another casette adapter. The one it comes with is too cheap/misaligned and will introduce hiss. Also, works best if you set your iPod to "small speakers" equalizer setting to avoid overdriving the signal (which causes clipping or noise through the adapter). Also, look on the cradle at the plug end for a switch which you can choose for loudness control. If this switch is in the wrong position, you may be overcompensating with your stereo volume control (which will introduce hiss). Otherwise, quite convienient, and works great if you set it up right.
