The iTrip visually and functionally complements the iPod. One of iTrip's innovative features is the selectable LX or DX modes of broadcasting. This feature allows the user to adjust for the absolute best possible audio under almost any condition. I owned one of the very first iTrip's Griffin put out and it was fantastic. I could pick up a reasonably good signal from it two blocks from my home. Because of my good luck with it I chose to ignore all the negative reviews about the 4026-LCDT iTrip assuming they came from people who were picky audiophiles. What a mistake! This thing is an unmitigated piece of garbage. I have to hold it against the car radio to even get a static-filled signal and even when in "stereo" mode the signal is so weak it comes out mono. Avoid this thing by all costs. I feel completely ripped off and will never buy another Griffin Technology product. I've had far better luck with Monster's cumbersome system for use in the car.

I have tried numerous devices to play my iPod in my antique beast of a car. I already had a cigarette lighter adapter to charge my iPod from a former failure of a converter, so the fact that this runs off the iPod battery is fine with me. It works, it's small, easy to use and I love it!

Bought this for my iPod Photo to use in my beater Hyundai (broken antenna) until it crapped out (the car, not the transmitter). It worked fine as long as I set the pod in the ashtray, any further and there was too much static! Now I have a little Honda CRX (with an actual radio antenna) and it sounds like garbage. I suspect it's due to my new stereo being able to actually receive radio signals - all those lesser stations I used to use have music on them w/ an antenna. I've used this in people's houses too but nothing beats a direct link via 1/8" stereo cable. For now I'll stick to CDs and find a decent cigarette lighter w/ USB and 1/8" inputs...

Unfortunately, this device was rated highly by several reviewers, but does not mate mechanically with a second generation Ipod Nano. Couldn't use the device at all. Nothing in the description indicates that this will not fit a second generation Nano, however the website does address the compatability issue indirectly. Amazon, update your information!

I bought this after much research on several fm transmitters for my Ipod Nano. I got it today and it works great! It has a metal gooseneck that comes up from the part you plug into the lighter switch in your car, (Sorry, no technical names), and this allows your Ipod to be upright while you are using it, rather than laying it down on the seat, sup holder, etc. It was very easy to use, you just plug it in, sit your ipod nano on top of it, select an fm station on your radio, and punch in the same station # on the fm transmitter, and there you go! Instant music!

First tip, there is a a moment of latency after plugging it into the cigarette lighter or plugging an iPod into it. For a few seconds but often less than five seconds, there may be static as the device is acquiring the iPod or before it begins transmitting on the FM signal.
Also, and this has to be said because it obvious some people are unaware of radio frequency warbling after reading some of the reviews, FM frequencies bleed over incrementally, in other words if you have a strong radio station broadcasting on 102.3, you're also gonna hear a weaker version of their signal on 102.1 and 102.5, this phenomena is called "warbling". It is almost funny watching the newer generation (that has never used FM radio) being introduced to the idiosyncrasies because they're trying to plug in their digital iPod into their analog car audio.
If your car FM tuner has a traditional tuner, meaning a button or analog dial that lets you rake across the entire RF range then you need to use it to find a truly unused frequency between two radio stations then tune your Belkin to it. Just using the "seek" function on your car stereo is always going to land you on a strong channel and trying to pick an empty freq off of it will perpetually frustrate you.
Some reviewers complained the device doesn't work as well in certain areas, or around mountains. That is irrational since this device is a mini radio station broadcasting to your car antenna, the reason it stops working around some mountains is because the mountains are affecting a broadcast radio station in your area and it is stronger in the spot you're having problems.
Again, the solution is to find empty airwaves for your FM tuner and this effect won't matter.
Here is a factoid that applies to most areas in the USA, National Public Radio (NPR) is often in the 89 - 91 MHz frequency range, and NPR being publicly funded doesn't have the strongest wattage so you can find an open frequency 2-3 frequencies off NPR and get clean sound with your FM mini transmitter.
Good Style, poor performance, LOUSY CUSTOMER SERVICE.......2007-03-23
To start with the AirPlay Boost has a nice design and good functionality, and this is the only reason it gets 2 stars. The unit I received is defective. It works but the volume level is only about half what it should be. In other words, compared to radio stations I have to turn the volume up on my radio over twice as high to hear the AirPlay at the same level. Also the transmitter power is no better that my first generation iTrip.
So I contacted XtremMac's techsupport. I was informed they would replace the unit, no questions. They would mail out a replacement unit with pre-paid return shipping for the defective one. Sounded fine to me, I've done this many times in my line of work. TWO WEEKS later still nothing in the mail. I contact techsupport back to find out what is up. It isn't until then I am informed that the replacement is coming from OVERSEAS and would take 3-6 weeks from the time it was shipped. It was shipped ONE WEEK after I contacted techsupport. So at best I could see the replacement a full month after contacting techsupport the first time. This is by far the WORST warrantee service I have every received.
Bottom line, there are plenty of other FM transmitters for the iPod. Do yourself a favor and buy one of them instead. I should have stuck with iTrip. My iTrip for my G3 iPod still works perfectly. lessons learned.
Good Sound, Short Signal Distance, Won't Attach With Case On.......2007-02-03
I just got this and here's my take:
Pros:
- Good sound quality
- Sleek and attractive looking
- Pretty easy to use
- It will override a station with a slight signal, such as my 87.9 FM which in NYC has some interference on it when the ipod is not playing.
Cons:
- Signal distance is very short. This thing tops out at a distance of like 1-2 feet max. I ended up putting it on top of my radio where it worked fine.
- My biggest beef is that it will not fit into my ipod with the case (Capdase silicone) still on. If it fit in with the case on, I would probably give it 4 stars.

Disappointing sound quality.......2007-01-10
I bought the Pico for my wife, and was pretty excited to put it to use on a recent long car ride, but I was very disappointed in the sound quality. After following the directions closely (being careful to tune to a channel that was indeed empty static) the music came through, but the frequency response seemed truncated on both the high and low ends. We also noticed that unless we placed the transmitter in a couple of select (and somewhat inconvenient) locations, the signal was somewhat crackly. Overall I'm disappointed, although if you have low expectations for sound quality, this product might be for you.

This is an ok system overall. I had the all-inclusive docking station prior to this, but it broke. It was very nice, but now the markup makes it not cost efficient. And I have tried the transmitters that are seperate devices. This one ranks somewhere in between. I thought I liked the idea of a cupholder model, but it makes me realize how much I use both cupholders! So, sometimes it gets in the way. The worst thing about it though is that unlike the all in one device, you have to plug in to the iPod using both this dock and then a headphone cord in to the iPod to transmit the sound. I have had problems with iPods and their jacks, so this is a little troublesome - and cumbersome with the extra cord!
But, it transmits well and holds the iPod securely, so overall, it gets a 3.

Sound quality is crystal clear, even in urban areas. There is no interference, fading, or flat/hollow sound.
Dock is easy to use with a variety of iPod products, thanks to the included cradle converters. The cupholder design is ingenious; you don't have to screw it to your dash and ruin the car's interior. It costs 40-50% less than other units of comparable quality.
Because it charges the iPod as it plays, it is ideal for long car trips. 5+ stars.

Not a great FM transmitter design .......2007-02-22
This unit failed on start-up. The unit design is not very good for a moving, bouncing, car. The plug does not fit very tightly in the socket. (Even with the included washer). The arm is long but the iPod Video is heavy, so it wobbles and cannot maintain consistant contact with the plug. Everything is too loose. I called the Radian tech support number. I was put on hold for over 1/2 hour and never got help. I tried 2 times.The results were the same. The package says 24/7 support. Finally, I emailed them for a RMA number (which they say to do on their web site)and after 2 weeks I never heard back from them.

I own an earlier model of the iTrip and loved it. So when I purchased a new iPod Classic and needed another FM transmitter I went right to he Griffin iTrip. Well, this one doesn't work nearly as well as the older model. It looks very cool but it just doesn't have the same strong clear signal as the old model. It' works, but there is a lot of static and noise. The slightest bit of signal interference causes it to mess up the music you are listening to. I need to search out a better solution as this one just doesn't work well enough to suit me.

Personally, it took me longer to find a static radio station then it took for me to get the device setup. I haven't had a single problem with it; I find this easier than when I was using the tape converter for my IPOD on my old car. The sound came through loud and clear on the first try, from the look of the other reviews this device seems to be hit or miss, but it works for me.

I bought this after returning a Belkin product that plugged into the 12 Volt and into the iPod at the same time. I could barely hear anything on the Belkin and the frequency didn't go below 88.0.
While returning it the customer service girl said the Belkin was being returned a lot and that she had this iTrip. I bought thinking what the heck. It can't hurt. It definitely worked. it was playing clear music in no time and on a channel less than 88.0. Plus you can charge your iPod with a USB connector. I have a charger for my blackberry which worked perfect.

I am surprised to see so many positive reviews on this product but for some reason it just didn't work for me and even the design was very bulky and I couldn't figure out a way to mount it in my car.
I drive a honda accord and my plug resides right beside the gear stick. I had a very hard time in installing this device and finding the right way to mount it so that it does not obstruct the gearshift.
I encountered a very strange problem in finding the right frequency. The device works fine in the morning hours where I could play my ipod at 85.1. But during evening, though I was able to find many unused frequencies, the transmitter just wouldn't work. I got a lot of static which was unbearable and I had to finally return the product.

The item looks sharp, particularly with it matching the white Ipod. As far as it actually working, it falls way short.
I live in the NY Metro area and went through all the FM stations and found not one station that the worked with the FM transmitter. Even the stations that had static did not work. My old "cheaper" FM transmitter w/charger and cradle with only 4 preset stations works
I don't know whether the Griffin is not working due to the area or the product. Did anyone else have the same experience? What do I do?

I had to take a minute and let you know about this product if you own a IPHONE. Now you dropped allot of money on the IPHONE and you want to be able to listen to it in your automobile. This product does work for the IPHONE, but there are some things that I must let you know before you order it.
1) You will here a slight humming sounds as your drive around. It is not very loud, but you will notice it. This happens because most of us who have our IPHONE do not wish to switch the phone to airplane mode in order to play our music, so if you have no problem with a faint buzzing sound while you belt out a few tunes then this is your product.
2) I have a truck and at first when I was trying to figure out where I wanted the Griffin Road Trip to be placed it appeared to need the extension that is included in the box, so hold on to those small pieces you never know what you will need them for.
3) READ THE DIRECTIONS! They will tell you what each part is for, and before you know it you will have your favorite tunes playing from your speakers.
I have recommended this product to my friends and family, and now to you.

I didn't have a lot of hopes in purchasing a refurbished electronics product, but so far this has held up in the few times I've used it. For the money I spent, I'm pleased with the quality of the sound (it's playing compressed music over transmitted radio waves, so again, my hopes weren't too high in the first place) although you have to keep the volume high enough to overcome the natural hiss. Ergonomically, it's built conveniently and safely enough for me to operate without distracting me from the road or bumping my knee. However, this probably has as much to do with the location of my car's cigarette lighter as the product itself. Again, for the discounted price I got it for, its dramatically improved the value of my ipod to me.

Design and Setup
The iPod is loaded with impressive features, but it's also an Apple product, which means that looks matter. A lot. And Griffin clearly recognizes this, because the company has released several iTrips designed to match specific iPod models, and each is among the sleekest FM transmitters on the market. The white version is customized to look like a cylindrical extension of the special-edition white iPod (the U2 model), though it also fits traditional white iPods. Plus, the device measures less than an inch tall and exactly as wide as the iPod it sits on, so it takes up almost no extra space--an important feature to people who value the iPod's portability. Owners of first- and second-generation FireWire iPods, third- and fourth-generation white iPods with dock connectors, or iPod minis can buy alternate iTrips designed with their players in mind (in the same color or dimensions, or in the case of the FireWire iPod, with a different input on top).
The iTrip is designed to broadcast to any empty FM frequency on your dial--depending on where you receive the best reception--but it's only configured to play at 87.9 MHz right out of the box. That means a little setup is required using the included CD-ROM and iTunes. Fortunately, the installation is painless and takes only a few minutes. The installer adds a playlist to your iPod (through iTunes) called iTrip Stations, which consists of a series of short audio files that correspond with all available FM frequencies.
Features and Performance
The iTrip performs best when tuned to an FM frequency that plays nothing but static, with no audible words or music. Finding a good frequency is fairly easy, but it requires your full attention, so it's best to do so while parked. We tested the iTrip on three separate frequencies in a midsize market with varying success. The sound was generally good in two of the frequencies, less so in the third. This remained true whether the iPod sat next to the radio, in the backseat, or under a stack of newspapers. While driving through bad FM reception areas, the iTrip received a bit of static, but it usually passed in a couple of seconds.
The iTrip is designed more for convenience than elite audio performance, so listeners shouldn't expect CD-quality sound. When tuned to a clear frequency, it's about on par with the average FM station. If the volume is turned high, users might notice a slight hiss through the speakers, but engine hum and road noise will generally cover that up. However, listeners who value top-quality sound--especially people with expensive speaker systems that pick up every minor flaw--might instead want to add an auxiliary input to their car stereos to get the most from their iPods.
The main drawbacks to the iTrip are fairly minor, but will bother some users. First, the iTrip Stations playlist is stored as part of your overall music library, meaning the individual audio files can emerge during shuffle play--and the sound isn't pleasant. Listeners can remedy this by creating a new playlist with their entire music libraries minus the iTrip Stations files. Second, the iTrip draws its power from the iPod battery. This is both a plus and a minus, because it means you don't need to keep buying new AAA batteries every week, but you also won't receive as much power from each iPod charge. If this bothers you, consider purchasing an auto charger, which powers your iPod or iPod mini through the cigarette lighter adapter while you drive. Third, the iTrip isn't great for long road trips through crowded regions, because the available FM frequencies might change every 40 or so miles (or less), making it necessary to frequently retune the iTrip. On the flip side, it's great for long drives through the country.

Better than newer transmitters.......2007-12-10
I have an older iPod and used this iTrip with very few problems. I got a new video iPod and have not been able to find a transmitter to match this one. The primary benefit is that this iTrip will transmit on 87.9, which I have found to be the best freq to use anywhere I've been. EVERY transmitter since this one begins at 88.0 or 88.1, and that's where the radio stations start.
There are a couple of drawbacks that have been mentioned by other reviewers, but they can be overcome. If you have your iPod set on random shuffle, it may go to a different freq if it "selects" it during the random play. However, if you know anything about iTunes, you can select the frequencies in your iPod and exclude them from selection in shuffle mode. It's a simple setting in your iTunes. Another drawback is that it uses the iPod's power to transmit, but I have a cigarette lighter power cord and I simply plug it in when I use it. Problem solved.
Don't throw out your old iPod! I use mine with this iTrip in my vehicle, and my video iPod for everything else. Especially now that it's cheap ($7 I think) it's definitely worth the money.

I bought this item about a week ago and I already regret spending my $1.20 on it. I bought this item thinking it would be for the newist iPod generation, but i was wrong. If you look at the picture closly, you will notice that something extra is comming outta the iTrip. This plug-in is for iPod with Click Wheel (the second iPod made). DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY UNLESS YOU HAVE THE SECOND GENERATION OF IPOD!!!

When I purchased this product many years ago, it was an amazing device. It was powered by the iPod itself and allowed frequency changes directly from the iPod as well.
Since then, FM modulator technology has increased by leaps and bounds. The iTrip produces a constant, high-frequency tone that's higher than most people's hearing range. Not mine, unfortunately. The iTrip also required special tone files to be loaded into your iTunes playlist to change frequencies. Not a big deal, but a little cumbersome.
Note that this product does not work with current iPods.

Disappointed it did not work well. Terrible sound! Invested in a more expensive option and love it. You gotta spend to get the best.

I drive a work truck, which only has an AM/FM radio in it, and the iTrip was exactly what I needed for my 4g 20gb iPod. As many have pointed out, the quality of it, can depend on your locale. You basically have to find an open frequency on your FM dial. I've been to a couple different cities with this, and the station 87.9 has always worked for me, with little problems.
I do seem to get overlap with XM/Sirius transmitters too (At least in my city, it seems they have found 87.9 to be a good channel for it as well) so I am forced into having to hear Howard Stern or something on the way to work if I'm next to a vehicle that has one. But I've found just placing my iPod in my lap, or resting my arm over it helps clear the signal to my own vehicle.
When the iTrip is working normally (which is the vast majority of the time), I think the sound quality is fantastic.
A lot of people have claimed that if you use the "shuffle" feature on your iPod, the iTrip stations you have to load will come up in it. But if your confident that the station you've chosen will always work fine, you can delete the playlist it makes. It will broadcast just fine, you just will not be able to change frequencies if needed.
I'm actually on my 4th iTrip, and I haven't had the software loaded since the first one, over a year ago. The new unit always just plugs in and picks up where the last one left off. I have managed to break the previous 3 iTrips by just being to rough with it, or simply dropping it.
I highly recommend anyone who has an iPod that will fit it, get this. At the price you can't beat it.

Terrific Little Speaker with Clear, Strong Sound.......2007-09-07
After reading several dozen consumer reviews describing laptop speakers I puchased this one. You simply plug it into your laptop, or USB hub, swivel the gooseneck to position the speaker where you want, and you've got an excellent speaker that fits in a small laptop utility bag.
The only complaint I have is that there is no quick volume control; once you've plugged it into your USB port, it overrides the laptop's volume control "knob". You have to open the volume icon in your Control Panel every time you want to adjust the speaker volume, which can be too slow when you're being blasted by a loud video.
This is not to say that there is anything wrong with the volume modulation in the speaker itself, just that there seems to be a wide volume range across items I view--YouTube, email messages with videos from friends, etc.
If this speaker had a volume control knob it would be perfect!
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR DELL LAPTOPS.......2007-09-02
After several weeks of light, mid-volume use, the speaker stopped working on my Dell Latitude D500 and I began receiving error messages noting a "device malfunction". After trading emails with J-Lab customer service, I was instructed to return the speaker by mail (at my expense) for a refund. The refund I received was 80% of the original purchase price because, according to J-Lab, the device was still "working" upon receipt. The representative handling the return acknowledged that there has, in fact, been a history of compatibility issues with Dell laptops-- in other words, a "working" speaker may not always operate correctly when connected to a Dell laptop. Is trying this speaker on your Dell worth the risk of paying two sets of shipping charges, losing 20% of the purchase price, and spending time emailing representatives and repacking/mailing the device? If not, maybe it's worth considering alternatives.
Are we listening to the same speakers?.......2007-08-08
We bought this speaker for our Gateway M505 Media Laptop on a recent trip. The M505 has reasonable speakers for a laptop, but their volume level isn't quite strong enough for us to be happy--we'd always find ourselves straining to hear dialogue from movies.
From reading the reviews I honestly thought this would solve our problem in a nifty self-contained USB-powered fashion.
For us it didn't.
We found the speakers to be nearly identical to the M505 speakers, and while the B-Flex did give us the tiniest improvement in volume, it wasn't enough to really give us adequate volume, or the "big sound" many reviewers have mentioned. Also, there is no way a speaker the size of these can give the kind of frequency response any level of audiophile would be happy with.
