Didn't work for me!.......2007-12-26
Our older XP Home PC has been the family PC for several years. When I built our new Vista PC, I thought that I had found the perfect solution to automate the job of transferring our files and settings. But no...
I'm sure the cable works OK mechanically, but the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard was simply a dud. It never successfully completed a transfer of all of our files from one PC to the other, and I tried for several days using every combination of settings.
Again, I don't blame Belkin, but Microsoft's wizard tool simply wasn't up to the challenge. I ended up re-installing Vista from disk at one point because my daughter couldn't even logon under her id. At that point, I decided to call it quits.
I hooked up both PCs to our router and manually transferred the files over the network. Applications like MS Office, Quicken, etc, I reinstalled from disk. Slow and manual, but much more satisfying in the end.
Easy Transfer non-transfer.......2007-12-20
My rating for this product is not for the cable itself, but for the braindead Microsoft Easy Transfer application when using the ET Cable. On my XP system I had user data on the 'D' Partition. In Vista the 'D' partition is used for some Vista system recovery stuff. When you use the Easy Transfer application with the ET Cable it moves data from where ever you had it on the source system (XP in my case)to the corresponding location on the target (Vista) system. The 'D' partition size in Vista is 10 GB, about 7 GB of which is used, so after transferring approx 3 GB of data you get a filespace error.
When you use removable media (e.g., CD, thumb drive) you evidently get a choice of where to put the data on the target system but not when the ET Cable is used,
If you have data on the 'D' partition on your source system, save yourself the $30.00 for the cable and invest it in a 4GB or 8GB thumb drive.

* Install the included software on your XP PC
* Run Easy Transfer on XP PC
* Connect your XP PC to your new Vista PC with the cable
* Vista PC will automatically detect the connection and ask if you want to run Easy Transfer
* Select Run Easy Transfer on Vista PC
* On XP PC select: (a) files you want to transfer, and (b) where on Vista PC you want to save files
Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows Vista .......2007-12-13
Extremely easy to use. Comes with its own CD. One needs to remember that two monitors are needed to accomplish file transfer, one for the old XP computer, the other for the new Vista computer. Transfer requires that each computer has a USB port available. Programs cannot be transferred using the software supplied. There is a beta version of a program transfer system available from Microsoft but I have not dared to try it yet.
Easy Mover.......2007-12-10
Used the Belkin Easy Mover to transfer files from Windows XP to new Vista computer. It worked easily and was sucessful. The Laplink system is way too complicated and not worth the effort.

Customer Reviews:
Great with my TIVO.......2007-12-23
I bought to connect my TIVO to my home network. It works great. Installed and connected without any issues. Previously used a Linksys WUSB12 that quit working. For a wired network connection I would highly recommend.
Great Little Adapter.......2007-12-08
I bought two of these for my TIVOs. I've been using wireless connections for my TIVO for over a year. That worked great for updates but not so well for transferring programs between TIVOs or TIVO to Go. I wired the house and bought these to use with the TIVO USB ports. My transfers are quick and I don't get near as many pauses on TIVO transfers.
it worked like a charm.......2007-11-15
used this to hook up our old compaq desktop from 2000 a.d. running windows 98 to our home network. installed driver, plugged in cable and had a connection. it really was that simple. and my 8-year old is very happy...
Worked great to network my Series 2 Tivo.......2007-11-14
Bought this on other buyer's recommendations to connect my Tivo to my home network via the usb port on the Tivo (my Tivo was made before they were putting Ethernet jacks in them standard).
I wanted to go wired, rather than wireless because I wanted to ensure the fastest network connection, especially for downloading or streaming content from the internet.
All I did was plug it in and it worked.
Easy solution to messy problem.......2007-11-04
I have several Macintosh computers, all of which had their Ethernet connection damaged by an electrical surge from a lightning bolt which hit next door. On iMacs and iBooks, for all their many virtues, replacing the Ethernet jack and board is an expensive proposition. The Belkin F5D5050 adapter allowed me to bypass all that by using USB (which fortunately still worked fine). The Belkin CD did not contain a driver for Mac OSX, so I obtained a free Pegusus driver from Sustainable Softworks online. Bought one F5D5050 from Amazon to be sure it was a good solution to this issue and now I have ordered two more. I like the product and Amazon delivers fast, so I guess that says it all!

Customer Reviews:
Plug & Play.......2007-12-21
After the USB ports onboard the Dell computer died, I needed something to connect the myriad of USB devices on the desk (2 external storage devices, two printers and one scanner). I purchased the Belkin controller because I've been satisfied with other Belkin products that I have purchased in the past; their price was a bit higher than similar controllers from other manufacturers. The hardest task was extracting the USB controller card from the plastic packaging. Plugged the card in, powered up the computer (Windows XP Pro) and plugged in the devices. Everything worked like magic and faster than the original onboard USB ports.
Very Good, but..........2007-11-28
the only problem I've had with this is if I leave something plugged into it (like an iPod) and try to put my computer to sleep, it doesn't work and I have to reboot.
Otherwise it works great! I have an old Mac G4 867mhz that did not come with USB 2.0.
No sweat installation.......2007-08-23
Installation was simple (requires adding a card internally to your computer), and Windows XP supplied the rest of the installation. I did install the supplied driver, but was probably not needed. I have used this card for a month now without any problems.
Functions as advertised.......2007-06-27
I installed this PCI card on a Power Mac G4. There were no USB 2.0 ports on this computor. This Belkin PCI card has increased the speed of uploads to my iPod.
It's a good product and I recommend it.
Great product!.......2007-03-26
Easy installation on my Power Mac G4 - no drivers to install. I've tried other usb cards, but Belkin is definitely the one to get. Works perfectly with Mac OS 10.4.8; iPods synch and charge without any issues.

usb hub.......2007-12-18
The hub is small in size, which makes it nice for small spaces. The one thing that I did not realize when I ordered this hub was the lenght of the usb and firewire cables The lenght should be part of the dicription of this hub.
Perfect USB hub for Apple Airport Extreme.......2007-12-02
This fits perfectly under the apple airport extreme wireless router, which allows you to access your printer and multiple attached hard drives oh-so easily. It doesn't have a power supply, so devices must have their own power (so mini external hard drives don't work unless they have external power cord). Easy to use,, a great product companion for the airport.
Not reliable.......2007-11-05
I love the form factor -- it looks great sitting under the Mini -- but in practice it has been mostly just a source of frustration. I have a chain of self-powered Firewire hard drives which simply would not come up when plugged into this hub, but mounted just fine when plugged directly into the Mini. In addition, it does create quite a mess of cables behind the Mini, exposing only one port of each type on front where you really want them. This is a purchase I regret.
In fairness, the USB portion of the hub does seem to work a bit better. So if you only need a USB hub, this might be OK, but I wouldn't recommend it for Firewire.
Built for Generation 1 Mini.......2007-10-30
No troubles with the functionality of this device. Like most products compatible with Mac, you plug it in and it works. I rate it a three because this device is clearly made for the generation 1 Mini, and I believe this should be stated somewhere in the product description. The supplied 6in. USB jumper reaches the USB ports on the rear panel easily, however the supplied Firewire jumper is barely long enough and over time I expect it to eventually fail as a significant amunt of stress is placed on the cable in order to force it to reach. On the generation 2 Mini, the added USB ports required that the firewire ports be moved to the opposite side of the panel which requires a significant amount of effort to connect the supplied 6in. jumper. An extra inch on the cable would make it more easily compatible across the two generations. Also it would be nice if the device were silver rather than white to match the outside of the Mini rather than the top panel, seeing as how it is designed to reside under the Mini.
Excellent USB Expansion.......2007-10-22
I love this little device. It has nice expandability with both USB and Firewire. My favorite feature is the front USB/Firewire ports! I can plug my USB SD card reader and external USB devices in quickly - to the work - and then unplug. No Noise, No Heat - just sits there and works. It would be better if it had a memory card reader in it as well - but that is fine.

Works with iPod Touch.......2007-12-26
I was looking for a small, simple dock so that my wife would be able to keep her new iPod Touch charged at her bedside nightstand, but Apple's Universal Dock with USB charging block costs upwards of $80 together. What a ripoff. Get this one instead if all you want is a charging dock. (It has audio/video output features, but since it's at her bedside, we haven't tried those yet.) There's no remote, but from what I read about the Apple remote on the new Universal Dock, the Apple one doesn't work that great (which is why it gets one star). If you're shopping for this Belkin item, make sure you get the F8Z126 model which comes with the AC adapter, and not the F8Z122 model which *does not* come with the AC adapter. I mistakenly bought the F8Z122 and now have to go buy the AC adapter. Grrrr... Another good thing about this item is that it accepts the dock adapter that came with your iPod Touch (first take out the dock adapter from the dock. There's one that's preinstalled in it.) so her iPod Touch fits snugly in the dock. (The F8Z122 I bought comes with several dock adapters, but not one for the iPod Touch.)
Hope this helps!
Product Description
Time to move up to the "N" degree. That's 802.11n wireless networking. It's an emerging extension of 802.11a/b/g. It employs MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) spatial multiplexing techniques which greatly increases speed, coverage and the reliability of the wireless network and works with all 802.11n equipped devices. The N Wireless USB Adapter connects your desktop or notebook computer to a wireless network. It delivers greater range and faster speeds, N offers an excellent solution for sending large files such as video, music, photos, and documents among the networked computers in your home. When used as part of an 802.11n WiFi system, downloads and data transfer are far more rapid than previous 802.11 version standards.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent adapter.......2007-12-22
The Belkin F5D8053 N adapter is one of the few which will process a 300 bmps signal. The USB cord allows for optimal placement to receive the router signal--especially with the use of powered extension cords. It works well with other brands of routers, also.
Lousy management program makes problem solving impossible........2007-11-25
I bought this adapter because a double-solid wall appears to make my PC location a black hole for signals. This item's cable is over 4' long, so I figured it could get me better reception in the middle of the room. And better reception it gets (mildly). However, the Belkin connection manager is beyond lousy.
1. When I jump onto my computer after it has been in hibernation, the connection is lost and the program itself appears buggy and unresponsive to my request to connect. The only way to fix this is to reboot, so now I've basically prohibited my computer from ever hibernating. This is a pain.
2. I've gone into the Belkin management settings and chosen only my home network as a default network connection. None of the unsecure neighborhood networks have been "okayed" by me. But the manager keeps going behind my back and choosing random networks as official connections that are "OK" to connect to.
3. When I have no connectivity problems, the manager sometimes says that I have a good signal to the router but the router has no internet connection. It's clearly not in sync with reality.
So despite my hopes that this was the solution to my internet woes, it is only marginally better than the g-card I had installed before, and the lousy program is more of a hindrance than an aid.
Perfect...no lost signal.......2007-11-13
Works like a charm and the signal is always strong. It's great for you desktop that doesn't have wifi.

Share multi-function printers, access media readers, digital cameras and scanners with everyone on your network. Share USB Hard Drives. Play music from an MP3 player connected to a USB dock using USB speakers. Access Web Cams: eliminates the USB cable to the laptop.
Amazon.com Product Description
Your home computers are networked wirelessly, but with all the digital photos, video and music your family has been collecting, they're all running out of hard drive space. And what's more, you and your kids each need access to a printer. With the Belkin Network USB Hub, you can give each computer on your network direct wireless access to up to 15 devices, including an external hard drive to store your family's digital media and a printer that everyone on your network can share. With this convenient, easy-to-install device, the days of purchasing separate printers and peripherals for each of your computers is over.
Share up toFifteen Devices Wirelessly
The Belkin Network USB Hub allows you to give every computer connected to your network access to up to 15 USB devices. (The Hub itself will connect directly to five devices, but it also lets you "daisy chain" three additional USB hubs to it, so that you can connect a total of 15 USB devices to your network computers.) While the Hub is specifically designed for printers and mass-storage devices, it also works for most other USB devices, including most standard webcams, keyboards and mice, multifunction machines, scanners, and media readers.
Enjoy simple setup and operation right out of the box. View larger. |
Included software manages all the devices attached to the Hub. View larger. |
- Sharing up to 15 USB devices wirelessly, including printers, digital cameras and scanners
- Backing up and accessing data from a shared external storage device
- Playing music from an MP3 player connected to a USB dock (using USB speakers)
|
The perfect solution for connecting to your USB devices and drives from a wireless laptop. Note: The Hub requires a a wireless router, which must be purchased separately. View larger. |
You can even dock an MP3 player and play music through your USB speakers wirelessly. If your device has a USB connection, chances are that everyone on your network can access it wirelessly. (Some high-speed devices, such as high-definition webcams and video docking stations, may not be compatible with the Network USB Hub.)
Once the Hub is set up, you simply plug your USB devices into one of its five USB ports, and the Hub seamlessly installs software that makes USB printers and other devices appear to be connected to your network computers. The convenience of this direct USB-connection emulation requires that only one user be linked to each device at a time. So if your daughter is editing video on the external hard drive, the software lets you contact her to request that she disconnects from the drive so you can access it. With printers, the Hub automatically disconnects users after completing a print job, so that other users on your network can print.
Quick and Easy Set Up
Even if you don't have an external hard drive or other peripherals you want your computers to access, the Belkin USB Hub is one of the best ways you can share a printer on your network. It not only effectively functions as the industry's first reliable print server, it's also one of the easiest to install. Set-up takes less than three minutes with the included CD. Simply insert the set-up disk, and in five easy steps you'll be ready to go. If you have the Windows firewall activated on your PC, the Hub will automatically detect it and ask you if you wish to allow it to work from behind the firewall. (Users of other firewalls must manually add the device driver to their list of allowed programs.)
While the Belkin USB Hub works best with the Belkin N1 Wireless Router (a router is not included with the Hub), it will work seamlessly with any existing wireless router. The distance and quality of the connection of your computers to your USB devices will depend on the quality of your router and your Internet connection. And aside from having a wireless network and USB devices you want to connect to, the only requirement is that your computers are running Window XP or Vista.
NOTE: The Belkin USB Hub connects directly to your existing wireless router. The Hub does not have routing capabilities, and does not include a router. You must purchase the router separately.
Warranty Information
3-year Belkin Warranty
What's in the Box
Network USB Hub, power supply, RJ45 Ethernet cable, quick install guide, and setup installation CD.
Customer Reviews:
JUNK (especially for Mac users).......2007-12-20
This is just a terrible product. The hardware seems okay, but the software required to operate it is just terrible. You can only connect to a device if no one else is using it. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of wireless networking? Thanks, but I'll save myself $100 and just walk over to the dang thing and unplug it for that.
Also, the speeds are so slow. I mean REALLY slow. Using a brand new blazing fast Vista machine, my transfer took under two hours with the devices connected directly to it. I then did the same thing except going through this Belkin Wireless Hub - TWENTY FOUR HOURS!! Just awful.
Now, Belkin claims that it supports the Mac, so I bought it. It doesn't support the Mac. At all. The drivers on the Mac crash both my Mac Book Pro and my wife's Mac Book EVERY SINGLE TIME we use it.
However, I did give Belkin one star because this is a great idea. So 1 out of 5 for the theory. I'm just not paying $100 for this worthless trash in practice. Mine is getting returned tomorrow. There are plenty of other companies that want my business that actually support their products.
look ma, no wires!!!.......2007-12-18
Great device. Easy set-up. The system integrates with your wireless network seemlessly with the included software. One sore spot is setting up your firewall to accept this new device. The Belkin website offers solution for many of the most popular 3rd party firewall programs. If you turn off your firewall during set-up and then turn it on after setup is complete this seems to resolve this issue.
It is so cool to move my laptop accross the room and still be able to control my usb speakers & printer.
Works perfectly for me, very cool little device.......2007-12-13
When I got a new laptop, I decided I was sick of dragging cords around with it so I decided to make my house wireless. I wasn't sure what was out there as far as wireless USB hubs... I found one that operated without a wireless internet router, but it was more expensive. When I came across this, I decided I'd give it a try.
Setup wasn't too bad. I don't even think I followed the directions right but it works perfectly anyway. There's plenty of documentation for different setups.
I run my printer, external hard drive and wireless mouse/keyboard receiver through it (obviously for the last one, the receiver has to be within range of you, as usual). The router I'm using is a little Belkin g-band unit. When you connect to the wireless on your computer, it will automatically detect this and start connecting your devices, which takes a few seconds.
It's a nice design--small, but with enough weight to stay put, flat so you can put something on top of it.
Overall, I'm quite happy with it and I'd definitely recommend looking at this first if you're trying to find a wireless solution for your USB devices.
Belkin Network USB Hub.......2007-12-02
Received the item in the mail on Friday. Started right away to get it up and running. Got to where it would see both my webcam and printer on all pcs but wouldnt let me do anything with the printer. It is an HP V40. So i went to the Belkin website and updated the firmware and the application software for this unit and after that it was an easy setup for each pc. I really like this item and got a deal for 89 dollars after rebate.
Excellent product for what it does.......2007-11-13
I would have rated this product five stars or even ten if I could but for the absence of a single sentence in the quick start guide. To begin, I purchased this item over a month ago and had no luck installing it. It connected to the server but that was it. I could not see the devices I connected to the hub on the network. I tried a number of configurations but nothing worked. I gave up after a few hours and uninstalled everything and put the hub away chalking up the failure to my own incompetence. I did not try tech support because and this was confirmed by my review of the comments here I knew it would be a waste of time. A few weeks later I tried again with similar results. So I put everything away on the pile of my other hardware failures never to be resurrected. Yesterday I ran across a listing posted by C-Net of 15 outstanding products and the hub was one of them. So I thought I should try it again since CNet thought so highly of the product. No luck, same results-no connection to the other computers on the network. This time I decided to look at the CNet review to find out why they liked the product so much. In approximately the third paragraph I read the following and this is a paraphrase 'the software must be installed on each computer that wishes to have access to the hub.' I stopped and read it again in disbelief. Now I do not claim to be a expert in computerspeak but I do believe I can read an English sentence with some comprehension so I can say that that information was nowhere in the quick start guide. It does say install the software but I figured it meant install it on the computer to which the hub is connected. Well, long story short, I did what the review said to do and VOILA everything worked. I had connected two hard drives and a printer to the hub and the hub transfered each of them to the other computer where I installed the software. I was pleased. There are still deficiencies such as the asking permission to transfer ownership of the device which could be a major issue in an office environment but for me it is merely a matter of getting up and walking over to the main computer and clicking the yes button. The printer was already set up as a network printer but I connected it to the hub anyway. That did require the installation of a printer driver on the satellite machine which for me was a minor inconvenience. Also the hub has five ports but the spacing is not the best. If you have standard USB connectors, five should fit but if you have flash drives with USB connectors you may lose a port or two because of the width of the flash drive. This also may be minor but I should point it out. I also cannot attest to the reliablity of the device since I have only used it for one day. I can say that I attached a flash drive to one of the ports this morning and it connected immediately.
Perhaps the software installation instructions are placed somewhere in the manual which I did not read but I did read the quick start guide and I looked at the online help section to no avail. Maybe I missed it and I will hold out that possiblility but it's good to know that the device does work as advertised.
