Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-24
I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.

Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.

Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.

The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

I bought the miniblaster portable speaker in December 2006. I was amazed at the quality of the sound for such tiny speakers. Now, almost one year later, the speakers are still going strong. If you are looking for good quality pocket size speakers, these are a good choice.

My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.

Excellent clarity and performance for the price.......2007-12-19
I saw this product in Target a couple days ago. I plugged my iPod in out of curiosity, and played a few songs including recordings of: Nessun Dorma sung by Pavarotti, Do you know you are my Sunshine? by the Statler Brothers, A Moment so Close by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, and Forsaken by Dream Theater. The product performed a huge cut above all other iPod speakers that were available anywhere near its price of $249 in Target. The midrange was intelligible and fairly natural sounding even at moderately loud listening levels. (Speaking in terms normally reserved for actual stereo speaker systems.) This does not sound like just another iPod system. Its output capability is well beyond most iPod systems. The bass is not prodigious, however it does offer a subwoofer out to add a powered sub. I've been reading other reviews of this system across the net, and it seems most people are just looking for lots of boom in the bottom end.
I cannot stand excessive bass or treble, and iPod systems are especially notorious for having midrange that is heavily lacking in quality and intelligibility while emphasizing boomy and distorted bass and screeching highs from tiny and usually inadequate low and high frequency drivers. Midrange, the part of the spectrum where 90% of music occurs, is simply ignored more often than not. This system actually has dedicated midrange drivers that do not sound like a kazoo when played louder than 70dB. (moderately loud conversation, vacuum cleaner @ 10 feet) In fact, they play very clearly up to about 90-95dB at the listening position (approx 8-15 feet away, as loud as most high quality bookshelf speakers will play without becoming harsh sounding.)
I could actually hear what was happening in the music with this system. Pavarotti sounded like himself, and the deep bass guitar from Victor Wooten in the Bela Fleck track was clear and punchy without sounding 'woofy'. Dream Theater's intricate and complex music was delivered full-spectrum with admirable balance, even with James LaBrie's very unique sound. It won't shake your floor, because it's designed to have something most people don't understand: Balanced sound. It's not going to replace a good pair of B&W or other high end speakers, but it's a massive step up from the average iPod speaker system. Think of it as a larger and higher-output version of a Bose sound-dock (With more connections and features).
Inputs and outputs are massively impressive for an iPod system. 2 full RCA/S-Video video ins, and an RCA/S-video out for your TV, subwoofer line-level out, AM/FM antenna connections. Wall-mountable, and fits nicely beneath a 32" LCD TV.
One thing to note... the iPod dock does seem a bit flimsy compared to the rest of the system. In fact, in the one I tested, it was working, but the display on the front of the dock itself was not functioning at all. I was able to use my iPod, but had to use the non-synced mode. I am assuming that's simply because it was in Target and kids always destroy everything they can get their hands on in those stores. 90 day warranty is pretty standard, and not impressive.
Overall, I rate the product very high in the sound quality and available features areas. Build quality is excellent **with the exception of the dock itself-somewhat sub-standard.
If you want a speaker system that can accept source inputs from your DVD/Gaming/other systems as well as play Radio and iPod music, and mounts conveniently under your TV or on its own stand, and has acceptable performance relative to actual home stereo systems (Extremely rare among iPod systems), this one seems in a class of its own for now.

I bought this unit to replace my antiquated stereo & I haven't been disappointed. The unit is mounted on the wall below my 60" flat screen & I couldn't be happier with the sound & aesthetics. Good value for the price.

We bought this item without listening to it first. Big mistake. The sound quality on this unit is *very* sub-par, especially for the iPod dock sound. The dock also feels very flimsy, like it will break off at any moment. FM radio could barely pick up any stations at all. The remote that comes with the unit is extremely cheap, and had some rattling part inside. Additionally, the unit would only marginally respond to the remote.
Approximately 5 months after purchasing the item, it just stopped working and displayed random numbers on the front panel. We called "customer service" at iLive, only to be told that the warranty is only 90 days for labor, and that to repair would cost over $100.
Bad product. Bad service from iLive. Get something else from another brand.

LED lights (wall plug and car adapter) however neither ipod nor iphone are charged. The retractable USB cable lasted exactly 5 times... then the spring went flying.

You'd think for $.01, you couldn't go wrong. Then ok, even with shipping, it's $12. I took that chance. Well, that's $12 too much. The iPod connector is the biggest piece of s%$#. The plastic doesn't form fit correctly; one of the "prongs" on the side is sticking out like fish hook. I don't want to use it because I'm afraid it'll get stuck on my iPod, then I'll have to force it out and might damage the iPod.

I am very happy with this device. It charges my Ipod as quickly as my computer. I love the advantage of being able to use the car charger as well and not depending on my PC to charge it. The convenience is so much nicer. It can be charged near any electrical outlet wherever I go and takes almost no space when traveling. This was a great buy, considering the Apple people want about 3 times as much money for their custom charger. The only thing I would have liked was an insert on how the product works and simple directions (even though it's easy to figure out). Many of the new replicas coming out are great but come with no instructions. I think even the most simple design should come with some sort of short narrative.

As many people have commented, what Apple charges for their iPod chargers is just short of highway robbery. This LITTLE device (it really is quite compact) has been perfect for charging my significant other's 2nd generation Nano and even including the exorbitant shipping cost (it's high, but not completely unreasonable given the oddly cheap price of the unit) it's a bargain and a half. It takes several hours to charge a fully drained Nano, but at this price, I can wait :)

This charger causes all my Ipods to freeze up when charging and I usually must do a reset before being able to use it again. It works fine as a USB charger just not as an AC adapter.

Two stars for the two items that work. Great price for these items, and the home and car charger work fine, but my 3rd gen ipod nano seems to want a plug that goes into the data port instead of the headphone jack to play video on a TV. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

It's been working ok now, but after the first time I used it, my iPod would only play tunes by one particular artist and would skip over all the others in the shuffle. It wouldn't play anything else even if I selected it manually. I let the battery completely run down and then charged it again on my computer. It's working fine now and I use the car charger for short periods of time now. I haven't had any further problems.

When I bought this bundle, I was a bit suspicious of its low price. Other manufactures charge more or as much just for one of the plugs! The Car and Wall AC adaptor work flawlessly. At the momment I couldn't get the AV cable to work on one of my TVs. Perhaps that just doesn't work? Either way, I would have bought this without the AV cable for the same price!

I Don't Trust This Product.......2007-12-14
Regarding this iPod wall charger...
--- I wondered why the same product kept coming up with different prices. Maybe because they want to hide poor reviews and keep starting fresh? The first time I plugged it into my iPod, for a few minutes the backlight of the iPod turned on, but not the text. Then the light went off and I was not able to get the iPod to respond again for two hours. It was dead. I made sure the lock switch was off, I tried to reset, I plugged it in using the Apple brand charger that has been working fine...but nothing worked. It was gone.
--- Perhaps it was a coincidence that, despite the iPod working fine for two years (including a couple of hours on a flight just yesterday), the first time I plugged it in to charge with this product, it died. However, it also seems possible that this product provided the wrong electrical supply to the iPod and fried it, at least temporarily. I don't feel like trying it on other iPods to test this theory, though.
--- I thought I was getting a good deal by buying this for 1 cent and paying $4.99 shipping and handling. Now I realize the ploy - there is no reason to return it for a $0.01 refund, and shipping is not refunded.
--- I urge people to avoid this product.

So the obvious plus to this charger is the price, I was hesitant to buy because I was curious about the quality of the charger and so I subsequently decided to buy two of them just in case, and so far, I'm completely satisfied with it. I'm glad I bought these over the $30 apple charger. My only complaint is that you have to push the plug pretty hard to ensure that it locks onto the Ipod.

I bought this last July for my iPod Nano; after reading some other reviews, I was hoping to get 3-4 months out of it before I had to buy another. I am pleased to say, that after over 10 months of constant use, this charger has yet to stop working! Definitely recommended.

I got this for my iPod and it works okay. It's a little tinny on the sound, but for the price, it isn't bad. I like it just fine as I don't have to wear earphones all the time to hear my music.

I purchased these speakers along with my new 80GB iPod video, and I couldn't be happier. It boosts the sound for my music and videos on my iPod as well as my computer. Perfect for listening to my iPod as I shower.
I only have one minor complaint: the speakers are not rechargable and require 4 AAA batteries. But for only $4, I think I can afford to buy batteries without complaint!

This product is great. The price is very worth it. these are very nice speakers for ipod listening. Surprisingly large sound that can fill an apartment with pretty good quality. definately get more than your money's worth and great for trips.

For the price, these speakers are definitely worth it. I use them in my room and I never have a problem with the sound. You can turn the sound up on the speaker unit and if that's not loud enough, turning the volume up on your iPod increases the volume as well.
The only complaint I have is a lack of power source. You will have to either by batteries, which can be expensive, or a charger. I bought a charger and everything has worked fine so far.
Overall, these are worth getting if your looking for something cheap and easily transported.

Originally purchased for charging my Ipod but I've just tested with my co-workers Zune. Some usb cell phone data cables also charge and those go well with this charger if you want to just stand alone charge via USP. Sorry I don't have the car charger to test.

I purchased this one and the car adapter and they don't charge my zune at all...I don't know if it's a problem with the zune or with these items...but via usb it charges perfectly...
