poor product.......2007-12-26
unfortunately I purchased this as a gift and it was a great disappointment. Even tried ordering it a second time, with the hope the first one was just a fluke... WRONG! Terrible product and shipped the replacement one back as fast as we discovered the same issues .. poor contacts with the control buttons. I was embarrassed by the poor quality of this 'gift.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT AND MANUFACTURER.
Great for the Money!!.......2007-12-25
This little unit arrived and was flatter than I expected but I liked the compact size. It's very easy to use and a great way to charge my ipod Classic. The sound is fine and as good as expected for the money. If you're looking for a good stereo system this isn't it but if you want a simple inexpensive player I would recommend it.
Good for the Price.......2007-12-10
My wife got this for me as a gift. It has great sound condiering the small size. I use it at work so I have some background noise in my cube. I keep the sound level pretty low but it works great for me.
Not good quality sound.......2007-12-05
I'm not sure if there was something wrong with the product I received but it made a loud clicking and buzzing sound when the Ipod was inserted. The only way to not hear this sound was to crank up the volume but the speakers just aren't good enough to make turning it up that loud sound good.
GREAT BUY!.......2007-11-13
We purchased this for my 5-year-old to go with his iPod. It's perfect for his bedroom and the sound is very good. Can't beat it for the price!

Audiophiles beware! .......2007-12-19
Looking for a relatively cheap ipod speaker dock, I chose this one since it looked fairly attractive and simple. The quality of the main dock is not bad at all. Fit and finish is on par with the more expensive docks, however, the remote is absolute garbage.
By no means is this a terrible dock physically, but the sound quality has left a lot to be desired in my opinion. The dock sounds kind of like low quality computer speakers at best. Very hollow and flat sounding with little fidelity. this was a major disappointment to me. Because of that, I usually only listen to podcasts on it. (Which is fine since I love my podcasts also.)
I would say buy it if you plan on sticking it in the garage, or other work area, but don't use it as your main external speaker source for the ipod if it's going into the living room, or somewhere other people might hear it.
It's okay, but..........2007-12-11
I was disappointed that the remote is not full-function, but other than that it works fine.
it was okay.......2007-12-11
I got it as a christmas present--- the remote stopped working (to skip tracks) the same night. The sound is better than I thought it would be though....
It's decent for what it is I suppose

GOOD PRICE FOR A NICE QUALITY SOUND, IT WORKED FINE WITH MY TOSHIBA GIGABEAT BECAUSE I DONT HAVE AN IPOD.

Amazon.com Product Description
Made for sitting stylishly in your office or living room, the svelte inMotion IM500 speaker dock for iPod nano is also made for easy portability. Amazingly flat, the speakers panel folds flat onto the integrated iPod docking station to become just 0.7 inches thin (17mm) for easy transport. It also weighs just 12 ounces, and comes with its own protective carry pouch. Despite its size, the IM500 is no wilting flower thanks to its innovative speaker cone design and MaxxBass technology, which delivers deeper, richer, more natural bass frequencies.
Amazingly thin and light (just 12 ounces) for easy portability.
|
The IM500 flips open to create a stand at the press of a button, revealing the back that includes a mini USB 2.0 connection for syncing your iPod to your PC, as well as a special 2.5mm auxillary line-in port for connecting other digital audio players (such as larger iPods) or portable CD players. (The IM500 comes with a 3.5mm adapter cable to accommodate players with connections of this size.) The front of the unit includes the iPod nano dock as well as a power button and volume up/down buttons.
Sync your iPod to your PC while it sits in the dock, and connect other audio players via auxiliary port.
|
Plugged into a power source or roaming free on battery power, the iM500 gives you complete freedom using an efficient, compact class D amplifier for maximum power. When using the included AC power adapter, your iPod nano will automatically recharge when docked with the iM500. The broad-faced speaker cones provide a generous surface area that drive an impressively big sound from such a compact speaker system. The integrated MaxxBass technology isn't your standard bass boost feature. It uses a patented psychoacoustic algorithm that enable you to hear bass far below the physical limitation of the speakers by taking advantage of the latest research in how sound is perceived. With MaxxBass, you can hear frequencies up to 1.5 octaves below what is generated.

Customer Reviews:
Great sound for your iPod Nano, very reliable, great price.......2007-12-16
I've owned the IM500 for over a year and it is much more than a great iPod Nano amplifier. Sure, I use it for my iPod but the AUX input jack also makes it a great speaker system for your laptop computer. It folds down flat and fits perfectly in my laptop case. So whenever I'm on the road, this is the sound system I use for DVD movies, Internet gaming, or iPod play in my hotel room. The sound is wonderful with built-in bass boosting, and it's always worked like a champ.
I read the Amazon review by the person who said their iPod "fried" when they first plugged it into this unit. That seems very unlikely to me. How would a power surge get past the IM500's AC transformer? I suspect that was a defective iPod about to die when they plugged it in.
Ignore the rest, this is best Nano dock for the price, and perfect for your laptop computer too.
Good Item.......2007-12-11
This audio system sounds really great for how thin it is. It looks really nice as well. I bought it as a gift and was not disappointed.
Great Product. Even works with the new iPod Classic.......2007-12-04
I just bought this product a couple of days ago and so far its a great product.
Pros: Charges the Ipod, Great sound for such a small speaker, Compact and Concise, Very Portable, Easy to Operate, Even works with my Ipod Classic. So if you don't have an ipod nano, it still will work with your ipod.
Cons:Kind of hard to press the power button, It Takes 6 AAA batteries.
Other than that, If i were you, I would go out and buy this product instantly.
This is a great little portable iPod Speaker Dock!.......2007-11-03
The Altec Lansing inMotion IM500 Portable Audio System for iPod is perfect for my needs for a small (it's really tiny), powerful iPod (and other audio) speaker system. It's battery powered (you can use 6 rechargeable or regular alkaline AAA batteries), or you can opt for the included AC adapter.
Sound is phenomenal, and I can use this with the 2G Nano OR with the new 3G Nano with video OR the new iPod Touch with video! You can listen to music or watch a video with full audio while it's docked. Granted, the 3G nano screen is small, but since Apple has packed the screen with over 160 pixels per inch, it's amazingly viewable at close range. You could also theoretically watch videos on the Touch, but you have to turn the IM500 on its side for that. It works but is awkward and doesn't stand up on its own.
The unit comes with an audio plug which allows you to connect other MP3 players or gadgets. I can also use this with a 2G iPod Shuffle as well as a Sirius Stiletto 100 portable Satellite Radio (using high-quality WiFi streaming mode) to create a totally portable Satellite Radio speaker system! Very cool!
Good sound, great portability.......2007-10-31
Bought this unit for the express purpose of having music available in the hotel room when traveling. For portability it can't be beat: about the size of a thin travel guide and packs easily in a backpack or suitcase. Sound is quite appealing for its size and purpose. Impressive bass, good clarity. Overall I would highly recommend this product. Only complaint (kind of anal but I'm an engineer) is the 2G Nano does not fit properly on the unit. The 2G connector is offset an additional 0.125 inches or so causing the iPod to sit off center in the unit's recessed area. Does not affect performance, just looks like a poor design.

Works perfectly from the start to now and into the future.......2007-12-09
Hello,
I have currently owned this product for about a year now since I got it from the store so I wouldn't go to sleep with a pair of headphones on.
Set up took about 5 min, and was easy. I read the directions for about another 5 minutes and got the gist of it. The bass is reasonable and sound quality sounds better the more you increase the volume. It is compatible with all kinds of ipods so far. The volume can go very high, so I rarely put it up there. It charges everything as long as you plug it in, so I don't have to connect it to the computer.
It seems very durable, and is small enough to carry it around comfortably. It has a pretty good design of a doughnut.
I was surprised at its smallness at first, but quickly got used to it.
Follow the directions, and you should be fine.
Highly recommended.
Note: Only for home use or a place with an outlet.
At first yes, but then not so much.......2007-12-02
I have had this speaker system for about a year and it worked very well at first. Then when I tried to put a different kind of iPod in it, it skrewed up and ended up freezing the iPod. The sound wouldn't work and if it did, it would have a clicking noise in the background. I put my old one in there and it skrewed that one up also. I ended up having to get a new iPod. If you are looking for a one iPod speaker for not very long, then it is alright, but not many people are.
Small, pretty and great sound.......2007-11-29
I wanted something to be able to play my IPOD while I work in the kitchen, without a mess of speakers and wires. This is compact with tremendous sound, no set-up involved at all... just plug it in, insert IPOD, enjoy.
Great product!
Good Sound, Good Price.......2007-11-05
This speaker/docking arrangement is great. I have 3 of them placed around my home. The sound is good, the volume goes loud enough for daily use. I have used mine daily for about 13 months without any problem of any kind. If you already have a main stereo system I would suggest the Kensington dock that will play your iPod right through you system. Otherwise get this JBL. I also use my JBL when I go a friend's home who doesn't have an iPod.
Great Sound and Wonderfully Compact.......2007-10-26
I bought the JBL On Stage II speaker just yesterday and tried it out last night. I am highly impressed with the sound quality. It is a small speaker that gives off comparable quality to that of a Bose speaker. Of course it isn't a Bose but JBL made a fantastic speaker at more than half the price. This speaker is a Harmon product (an audio specialty company) so it's good quality and delivers an impressive sound. I'd buy it all over again!

Time setting dial can break easily.......2007-12-18
This was a gift for my wife last year and she loved it. It works as described and the sound quality is great. However, after a few months, the dial used to set the alarm started to fail. If you never have to change the time, it should probably be OK, but if you do it daily, beware.
Good sound, poor FM reception.......2007-12-13
We like the sound of this product, but are disappointed that we can only get one fm station. No matter how we move the antennae around, it doesn't help.
The best iPod speaker you can buy.......2007-11-11
This probably is the best iPod speaker on the market. The alarms and radio word great, it has fantastic sound quality, plus it's really nice that it charges it while it's playing. The only very minor flaw is that the buttons are pretty small, so if you're trying to turn off your alarm in the morning they're kinda hard to see. Also, it's a bit expensive, but really worth it. Other than that, this is definitely the best iPod speaker i have found.
Perfect.......2007-06-02
Excellent, excellent product. Sound quality is fantastic - it blows away other ipod speaker systems I've had or have heard. Everything else is easy to use and more than functional.
Remote Control Great But Husband Can't See Numbers.......2007-03-24
I like it as it has what I wanted...two alarms and a remote control. I really wanted the remote control. However, my husband can't see the numbers so we had to keep our old clock in the room too!

Customer Reviews:
iLUV i552BLK.......2007-12-18
The product itself is really good the only downside to it is that it doesn't operate on 240v.
Good for the office.......2007-11-03
Although the material seems like it would break easily the performance is ok for a desktop if power is not an issue. It does everything it claims except AM reception is poor. Operation of the unit is not all that good but it is simple and the included remote is almost useless. The adapters for the ipod did not fit mine properly and there is no tech support for this. It does play the Ipod and charge it and the FM signal seems adequate. If you need a quality product then dig into your wallet and buy something else but for the money I thought I got what I paid for.
Looks cool, plays great.......2007-10-26
I purchased for my husband and so far he loves it. He was especially excited to hook it up to the TV and watch his Ipod videos that way. Sounds great, and it's portable since it takes batteries. Oh, and he loves the little remote too.
Birthday present for a 15 yr old.......2007-09-15
I am very pleased with the iLuv i552BLK Portable Audio System for iPod I ordered from Amazon.
It just works all around. Good quality for a good price. The handle makes it truely portable, unlike any other portables Ive found. pocket sized remote, easy...plug in the ipod and go.
Perfect gift.
Sound quality .......2007-08-10
Not too fond of this, but I guess you get what you pay for. The power button doesn't seem to work, only works on the remote and the sound quality is pretty distracting.

Customer Reviews:
Good, but has a few flaws........2007-07-19
The iPod Dock is good, but has a few flaws. For example, I noticed that sometimes the iPod may not make contact with it, so you have to make sure it's pushed in all the way, but even then, sometimes you have to unplug it and try again. Also, you can't put an iPod on there if it has a skin and/or cover on it; you'd have to take it/them off in order to do so. Otherwise, it keeps the iPod standing up and charges it at the same time, so that's an upside.
Just as advertised!.......2007-06-21
It is what the advertisement says. It's a solid stand that has a rubber pad to keep it from moving around. The ipod nano fits perfect as long as you don't have a cover on your ipod nano. The price is higher than I expect for an ipod nano stand, but you need to pay a premium since Apple makes the stand. You can get a cheaper one from another company, but it won't be made by Apple and may not have the same fit with your ipod nano.
Almost perfect.......2007-05-23
My friend gave me a 2nd generation iPod Nano. She was the Apple fanatic and I the Windows worshipper. Yet, I thought now would be a good opportunity to actually experience the iPod mania that tremendously boosted Apple's reputation. I had no idea that the dock would have to be bought seperately and I thought it came with the iPod Nano. But I've heard that the Nano has to be very well taken care of to last more than its one year life expectancy. A dock certainly is a goodidea as it not only keeps you iPod safe but it also recharges it. Like all Apple's out-of-the-box experience, the dock is neatly packed and comes with a warranty and a manual. That's it. All cords needed will be the ones that came with the Nano: the USB cord and the recharge-wire (Also, the Nano cannot be interacted while it's on the dock unless you eject it from the machine. This is because it would be syncing music or photos and would interfere with the process). Apple has also been considerate and put in a line at the back (beside the recharge port). You can choose to plug in your headphones or your speaker set (the ones with the similar outlet), but be warned. I had a deafening experience last night as I inserted my headphone cord into this line. Volume is on high and it cannot be changed (I tried the volume setting on the iPod. iTunes, and the overall volume on my laptop)! So I had to listen to my music blaring out of plugged-in headphones which I set on my desk. I could hear the music, almost fine. I recommend the speakers that are inserted into this line have a volume knob on them, because the music coming out will really be ridiculously loud. This was the only problem I really experienced with the dock. But it really adds a nice touch-up to the desk, especially if you own an Apple computer or laptop like the MacBook!
Great Sync, Awful soound.......2007-05-12
I bought this dock, mostly to plug the ipod into my speakers, but the sound quality is awful, besides you can't control the volume from the ipod.
Small & convenient.......2007-03-19
This Apple iPod Dock is very small & convenient, and is especially great for traveling. It DOES NOT come with a plug-in outlet charger, so you'll need to purchase that separately if you wish to charge your iPod without connecting it to your computer. I purchased one for a couple of bucks, and it (along with the dock) works great.

I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.
Enjoy!
Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.
Good Product.......2007-07-26
I recommend this product over similar products that are outrageously expensive. Powerful sound for it's size and easy to use. Great value.
Wow, under 15 bucks including shipping!.......2007-07-04
Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.

The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.
