Customer Reviews:
Highs too High!.......2007-12-26
I was hesistant about this product, for good reason. I was replacing my 5.5g ipod that was stolen... turns out that nothing apple cranks out would compare.
The sound quality on this IS IN FACT worse. I thought the audiophiles reviewing the sound quality online were just being picky, but the sound really hurts my ears because of the intense treble and the mids that are missing.
The symbols sound so fake and piercing. By no means is this always a "clean" sound that people justify it as, it is just pronounced and distorted. I listened to an acoustic piece first, it sounded alright, and crisp. But then I listened to Dragonforce & Sonata Arctica... I couldn't concentrate on the music because of the highs resonating in my ears. Jazz sounded a little better on my ears, but you have to like it crisp and not warm sounding...
I want to take it back, but I don't want to more on a restocking fee...
If you can get your hands on a Zune or a 5.5 generation, please go for it, I spent 15% restocking fee to learn this lesson. Listen to the majority of reviews!!!
edit...
************
ok so you can kinda resolve this in the EQ.. but because its preset.. you have to deal with it being muddy or something else.
also....
GAMES ARENT BACKWARD COMPATIBLE... WHAT THE HELL APPLE
the fifth generation ipod is compatible with everything though?
apple messed up... i have not been a fan of apple since OS 9 (horrible btw)
Apple Garbage, junk, worhless trash.......2007-12-25
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL I would never buy proprietary apple trash, I would not take it if it was given, you say yeah right!?, no really why take an mp3 video player that you can only use with an apple garbage software?
Why buy proprietary junk? read below you have great options for great movie and mp3 players.
Amazon you have done a serive to these Mac users. You taught them that they are the ones buying junk ipod products. People read and listen, you have a choice. Do not buy apple products they only work with other apple products and since apple has about 5% of the market.... Oh yes for you, NBC cut it over to their website and opened it up to the rest of the 95% of the market. So they have not lost anything, they have made more money
That is what you get for buying worthless ipods and Apple products. Apple is proprietary and that is why the Amazon Unbox does NOT support it. The .wmv files can be played on a lot of software, such as Toshiba, Creative, iRiver, Archos, Zune, and any player that is playsforsure. As with the ipods and apple files, .m4p's, can ONLY be played on Apple software.
It has not gotten old hearing people just like you complain about spending a lot of money for nothing! LOL LOL LOL
2 stars untill they can fix all the bugs........2007-12-22
let me keep this as short as possible. The ipod classic is seriously flawed.Even after the first software update, that made the slow click-wheel more responsive, its still frustrating to operate. The biggest annoyance is the frequent crashing.Mine freezes/crashes daily!!!i've never had to reset an ipod so many times before(this is my third ipod). My primary reason for getting the 160 gig, was so i could store most of my music in a loseless format.I cant belive apple put this product out, with so many pimples and warts.
Apple why did you do this to me?.......2007-12-21
"Apple why did you do this to me?" might sound like a harsh name for a review, so I should start by saying this iPod is an amazing device that may satisfy some customers. Building on tradition this iPod features the largest capacity yet: 160GB! When I heard this unit was out I immediately wanted it. After all who wouldn't want the king of all iPods? 160 GB is enough to hold many entire albums even without using compression--and have them playback gap free! So, here's why the unit had to be returned to the store, and why I have no interest in a 6G iPod.
Apple managed to do what appears to be a typical move for successful manufacturers. They have discontinued the use of a key piece of technology used in previous iPods: the Wolfson DAC. A "DAC", or digital to analog converter, is the chip that is responsible for turning numbers into sound (which is essentially what an iPod does). On the 6G iPod Apple has chosen a new DAC made by Cirrus Logic. This new chip apparently fails the taste test to an important community: people who care about the quality of their audio listening products. These are the same folks who throw away the headphones that come with the iPod and buy headphones that actually sound good.
Unfortunately this has me halting any iPod "classic" recommendations and purchases. I'm happy with my 5.5G iPod which uses the faithful Wolfson DAC and sounds like what a "classic" iPod should sound like. There are even folks who swear by the fidelity of even earlier iPods. Apple, please get it together.
Big Disappointment.......2007-12-21
From what everybody had said about past ipods I thought I would love this thing. Apple has a great reputation for putting out high quality products. This product, unfortunately, falls short. First off is the bugs. Even after downloading the third firmware for this product there are many of them. If you are on the "now playing" screen when you try to sync your ipod with your computer, it invariably freezes up. Also, some files which are on the ipod (and will play in Itunes) somehow do not play on the ipod. The ipod just sits there as if it is going to play it but it never starts up. Sound quality is also a big issue. I'm certainly no audiophile but the headphones put out horrible sound quality, much worse than the cheap Sandisk MP3 player I have. Mids and lows are very distorted. I happen to have had a pair of Sony MDR-XD200 and these seemed to have solved the problem. Most likely, you will want to invest in some decent headphones if you buy this player. I ended up buying a pair of Sennheisers and a pair of V-Modas.
As for positives, I've never had any problems with video playback. I have about 20 or so full length movies on this thing. I like the cover flow feature even though some have commented on how slow it is. Storage is also a big plus and if you have a large music collection, this is the only game in town. Right now, Zune only makes an 80 gig which is just not big enough for my collection. Buy this product if your collection is huge but look elsewhere if you can go with something with a smaller capacity.
Average customer rating:
- This is the good one!
- Who are they kidding?
- 80GB iPod is worth your money
- Ipod 80 gb.
- Great for Audio (when not frozen), TERRIBLE FOR VIDEO

Lucky thing your iPod plays audio for hours and hours, or if you'd rather watch, you can feast your eyes on movies and TV shows for several hours without draining your battery. And you can count on the iPod to help you pack light. It is almost hard to explain exactly how 80 GB of storage can fit into an iPod that's the same size as the 60 GB model before it. However it happened, it means you can carry more music and video absolutely anywhere you go. And with a 60-percent brighter screen, the vibrant display gives your album art, photos, and video extra oomph. As always, iPod makes finding what you want to hear a breeze. Plus, a new interface lets you search your iPod using the patented Click Wheel. And if you're a fan of live albums, classical works, or anything that sounds best when it is played continuously, iPod supports gapless playback that seamlessly transitions from one song to another.
Music, Movies and TV Shows
Finding and playing music on your iPod is simple. Use the Click Wheel to adjust volume, navigate songs, or browse the Music menu by artists, composer, album, song, genre, or playlist. Want to mix things up? Simply click Shuffle Songs. iPod makes your music look as good as it sounds, thanks to its big, bright color display. Album art appears alongside your songs in the Now Playing screen, so you can see your music as you play it. After all, iPod loves music as much as you do.
Now you can watch a movie while waiting in line for tickets to one. Download movies from the iTunes Store, then sync them to your iPod to watch anywhere, anytime. The iPod's gorgeous display--now 60-percent brighter--makes your movies pop. And thanks to improved video playback time, iPod keeps you entertained for several hours--even longer if you reduce brightness using the new brightness control.
As for television programs, there's always something good on iPod. Browse thousands of episodes of your favorite TV shows on the iTunes Store, buy them for just a couple dollars each, then sync them to your iPod. Watch last night's episodes this morning, or buy a whole TV series and settle in for a pocket-size marathon. All your TV episodes display in order, so you can navigate them easily, and every episode you buy from iTunes is optimized to look great on the iPod's crystal-clear, 320 x 240-pixel display.
Podcasts, Audiobooks, Games, and Photos
The iTunes Store features thousands of free podcasts--radio-type shows you subscribe to--including indie favorites and offerings from big names such as, ABC News, Comedy Central, ESPN, PBS, NPR, and many more. Browse and subscribe to podcasts, then sync them to your iPod and listen anytime. Even video podcasts sync to go, and all your podcasts appear in their own menu on your iPod, so they're easy to navigate.
The iPod measures up nicely, and is over 30% thinner than the previous fourth generation.
|
The iTunes Store is the bridge between your iPod and all the content your heart desires.
|
The digital shelves of the iTunes Store are stocked with thousands of audiobooks, including such exclusives as the entire Harry Potter series. Download what you want, sync to your iPod and catch up on your reading the audio way. Just like podcasts, you can browse audiobooks in their own menu on your iPod. And your iPod automatically recognizes where you left off reading and bookmarks your place, so it is easy to dive back into the story. You can even change the reading speed to suit you--this is a perfect feature for learning a new language.
Now that the iTunes Store features iPod games, you can keep hours of fun at your fingertips. Download brand-new and classic games, including Bejeweled, Texas Hold 'Em, Vortex, Mahjong, Mini Golf, Pac-Man, Tetris, and Zuma, for just a few dollars each, then sync them to your iPod and play along with your favorite tunes. All iPod games from the iTunes Store are designed specifically for the fifth-generation iPod, and all of them look great on the 2.5-inch color display.
If you can fill your iPod with photos, then you've got a ton of images at your disposal. iPod holds tens of thousands of photos that you can sync from your Mac or Windows PC via iTunes. Use the Click Wheel to scroll through photo thumbnails the same way you scroll through song titles. To see a photo full-screen, just click the center button. You can even view photo slideshows--complete with music--on your iPod or on a TV via the optional iPod Video/Photo AV Cable. Select Slideshow Settings, choose the transition effect and the music, and then start the show.
Search, Settings, and Extras

Customer Reviews:
This is the good one!.......2007-12-24
While the newest 6G iPod Classic offers some new features and a slim profile, this older 5.5G iPod is the best one currently available (12/24/07).
With a Wolfson DAC, a component not featured in new "classic" iPods, this 80GB iPod features the sound quality that made iPod a viable music listening platform. It also has a bright screen, good battery life, and the ability to play videos, photos, songs, games and more! It plays entire albums flawlessly with no gaps between tracks, a problem that plagued older iPods for years.
Finding a good deal on this unit is the best possible 80GB iPod purchase you can make until Apple hopefully fixes the 6G iPod sound problems. Let's keep our fingers crossed for the upcoming 7th generation.
Who are they kidding?.......2007-12-16
This has got to be a JOKE. As has been stated below, the pricing for this item is preposterous. I came here to buy the 5.5-gen iPod since I read many, many reviews branding the new Classic line an afterthought at best. How is it that this 5.5-gen product costs OVER $200 more than the most updated iPod out there? Give me a break, Amazon.
80GB iPod is worth your money.......2007-12-15
I purchased mine over a year ago and have been quite happy with it. It has never stopped working or anything just stores my music and videos perfectly. Maybe people should invest in a good cover for theirs though. I have a nice hard see through plastic one that has protected my ipod since i got it.
Ipod 80 gb........2007-12-07
Unfortunately the battery would not hold a charge. But the retun service was excellent. No hassles and the refund was made immediately upon receipt of the returned Ipod. I would use this company again.
Great for Audio (when not frozen), TERRIBLE FOR VIDEO.......2007-11-28
I have the 80gb Generation 5.5 iPod with video. I have had it for about a month now, & every time I have ever tried to play a video it would play for about a second, then get corrupted & freeze. When I go "back", trying to get to the menu, the entire iPod then FREEZES & no matter what you do it is completely unresolvably FROZEN until it runs out of juice and you plug it in to recharge it. This is pretty awful, since this is undoubtedly shortening the life of the battery considerably. Worse than that, the only fix anyone online has had for me so far was "Wait until the battery dies and then recharge it & it'll be fine", which I was - you can imagine - less than pleased with hearing, since I'd figured that much out frustratingly on my own. There has to be a better answer than that, or I'm going to feel pretty ripped off.

Customer Reviews:
Good .......2007-10-10
Good but, the problem is when you want to quit this, and put your ipod on soundock, and viceversa.
Great protection for my ipod..........2007-10-04
I love this cover a lot. It is robust yet quite smooth on the ipods smooth finish... the click wheel and the screen are very nicely protected... though it can make the ipod look a bit thick, but for the protection it offers its good. Also it retains the ipod look very well.
Excellent protection, limited dock compatibility.......2006-10-17
The case is excellent in the way it looks and feels. It protects the entire iPod extremely well. It is sticky in your hand or on dash of your car. The plastic faceplate is brilliant in the way it protects and guides your thumb around the wheel.
My only real complaint is that it's compatibility with speaker docks is limited. It will not work in my Altec Lansing IM11, nor will it work with a Nyko Speaker Dock 2. It does fit into Memorex clock-radio, and into the official apple universal dock without an adapter. I had a very difficult time inserting it into a dock with the flap over the docking port cover, but after cutting it off it works well. It is possible with the flap intact, but it took me a long time time every time i tried and it would wiggle loose. It is looser than a naked iPod with the correct adapter, but not bad.
Are you kidding??.......2006-09-24
I wasnt going to write a review, but then I read the one review here and felt the need to respond. First off, yes it does collect dust. Of course wiping off a bit of dust is no more difficult than wiping off the non-stop fingerprints an unprotected ipod collects, so either wipe off the case or wipe off your ipod that is probably scratched to hell without a case...your pick.
True again, it wont fit into my speakers with the case on. What isnt true is that this case is hard to get off! It takes maybe a few seconds to do its not like the ipod is clinging inside so you need to pry it out. I had a different case I bought at Target and trust me, there are cases that it is difficult to get an ipod out of but this isnt one of them.
As far as the sharp edges, that is about the biggest exaggeration ever. I cant even imagine what edge the other review means but take my word for it the plastic isnt sharp. I suppose if you sat there sawing away at your hands with the plastic part eventually you might break skin but yeah this thing is hardly a dangerous weapon.
The truth is this case fits well, protects the ipod screen better than any other case Ive seen, and is overall a good buy. It does add some size to the ipod so yeah it wont be as small and fit into your speakers or maybe some docks but Im going to assume thats an issue with most cases out there. It has a belt clip that is very easy to remove. The one issue is that the "hold" button area is covered. I have no idea why they did that. The area on the case that covers the hold button is marked out on the case so I just removed it with some scissors and now its perfect.
Slick Design but lots of issues.......2006-05-22
When I pulled this out of the box I was very impressed with the design. You're entire ipod is covered by the silicon shell and the screen with a hard plastic front.
Unfortunately, that's where the good impressions stopped.
Issues:
1) Dust sticks like glue (but what did I expect with silicon)
2) Hard plastic front is SHARP! Just holding it with my finger lightly against the round cutout, which allows you to use the click wheel, I neatly sliced my finger. By the time I had the thing on my Ipod I had 3 cuts. My husband could not believe that it was so sharp and so I took the cover off and had him put it back on. Within a minute he cut himself too. Ridiculous.
3) Given that I can't fit the covered Ipod into my portable speaker set and it's such a pain to put on and remove I've put it on a shelf where it can happily gather dust while it awaits my yearly trip to donation box.

I was suckered into buying this case when I first got my 5G iPod about a year ago.
Within about a week I noticed the smudges around the border of the plastic.
Within about a month, there were little smudges on the screen just from the basic pressure of it being in my pocket.
Within 6 months, I couldn't even tell what was on the screen without a blacklight.
I have friends who have had iPods longer than I have, keep it in the case that comes with it or the iPod socks you get for 5 bucks at wal mart, and they look much better than mine.
Now I wish that I didn't even buy the case. One of the coolest things about the iPod is it's sleek, clean look. Now the very thing that was supposed to protect my iPod actually conributed to the crappy, dirty look that it has now.
I essentially paid best buy 30 bucks to smudge my iPod for me. Do not buy this.
Good with caution..........2007-01-30
I bought this after reading all of the reviews about this scratching your Ipod.
I went and bought an Invisible Shield before using this product so I cannot confirm the scratching theory...though I believe all of these reviewers.
Since I already have the protection I had bought this for the purpose of usability. For me the design is perfect. I also prefer the removable clip cause it is exactly what I needed.
The only con for me...since I don't have the scratching problem...is the fact that the shield over the dial can occasionally be a little non-sensative and needs extra pressure for me to actually control the dial...and at other times it is ultra sensitive and when you want to nudge up the volume it actually jumps because the shield is not as tight to the dial. I think I would actually just rather not have the film there.
it scratches the ipod - dont buy it.......2007-01-29
pretty much what others say. it scratched the ipod instead of protect it. the reason is the lack of a well thought design. the plastic that protects the screen has a U cut inside, and that U cut is what makes the marks on the ipod
DON'T BUY.......2007-01-04
I bought this case the same day i bought my ipod about six months ago and as soon as i got the ipod i put it in the case
within a month there was noticeable scratches (i never took it out) and within 3 months there was a huge area of scratches around the click wheel. i decided to go back to the default cheap skin that apple gives you with the ipod, and that has protected it BETTER the last three months! There are only a few more scratches that occured while i had it out of the white case
DON'T BUY
Its Good - ease of taking iPod in and Out of the case.......2006-12-21
I like this case because its easy to take the iPod in and out- I use a docking station and fm Transmitter in my car so I need the ipod to be used free of the case. I tried the iSkin case but it encloses the iPod completely and does not allow it to be used with docks and fm transmitters. I also tried the 'Vaja' leather case from Covercase but it has no belt clip!
The DLO case has the right padding so the ipod gets the protection it needs from bumps and falls without the adding too much bulk (like the ToughSkin). The belt clip is perfect, comes off with ease and also lets the ipod rotate.
If you can put a protective film(+ $3) on the front and back, it wont scratch your ipod.

What can I say It's an IPod.......2007-08-07
Been using it for a year now and never had any problems, battery life is excellent, but i think i bought too much of a capacity have used only 27GB max ;)...
My best buy so far!
Pretty happy.......2007-07-16
It's nice... gives me options with plenty of disk space... I like to store a lot of pics... it's nice when you're on the go... also hooks up to my HDTV... I'm pretty happy with my iPod and would definitely recommend one to anyone....
Best iPod Ever.......2007-07-02
I love my 60GB Video iPod- there's plenty of storage room with all my music, photos, videos and room left over to backup my data. If you look at the price per Gigabyte, this is without a doubt the most cost-effective iPod model. The Battery lasts for hours upon hours when playing music and still for several hours when watching video. I love the fact that I can hook this up to my TV with a video cable and watch my video on the big screen. It also works great when coupled with the dock and remote, before the Apple TV, this was the best way to watch my iTunes movies and videos on the big-screen from my sofa.
The iTunes software works great for managing all my media and the sync process is easy and fast with the USB 2.0. Just plug it in and go. I was really surprised at how clear the video screen was - yes it is small, but it's fine for occasional viewing such as when on a trip. Made my 8 hour overseas flight much more enjoyable. I also bought an iPod compatible stereo for my car and now I rarely use anything else. Great for podcasts and audio books, especially for long commutes.
Oh yeah, and last but not least- it's absolutely gorgeous.
A few bugs but great service.......2007-06-15
My husband got this for me for my birthday and I have used it non-stop ever since. It crashed several times, no one knows why, and I took it to the local Apple store and they replaced it for free.
Great product and great price
iLove my iPod.......2007-04-19
Enough said. I was a long time hold out, but I'm so glad that I gave in. Great for travel and home.

Hard case and soft case work well.......2007-11-05
I liked this product a lot. The only problems were that the soft case doesn't fit exactly on the 80gb ipod classic, but it fits well enough.
Also, the hard case is useful to keep the ipod from getting scratched and it props your ipod up so you can watch videos, but it makes the ipod extremely bulky, making it so you can't tell if your ipod is the the old brick or one of the new ones. In addition, the hard case doesn't fit very snug around your ipod, even with the soft case, so your ipod may rattle around inside the hard case a bit.
Also, the click wheel on the ipod doesn't work as well when covered by the soft case and the hard case together; trying to scroll down or up can get very frustrating. Currently I just use the soft case and I like it a lot, it looks pretty cool :)

Customer Reviews:
No screen protection whatsoever, and it will actually scratch your ipod!.......2007-11-27
My biggest problem with this case is there is virtually NO protection for the screen at all. It comes with one of those thin, stick-on scratch guards, but that's it. No protection should you accidentally hit the corner of a table or you put it in your pocket with your keys.
The shell around the rest of the ipod is solid, I just wish they could have extended so it covers the screen.
The kickstand is a nice feature, but you have to open the back of the case, leaving your ipod exposed, plus, you have to unplug then replug your headphones to open it. Would have been nice if they could have come up with a kind of flip-down stand that still leaves the case closed.
There are also two plastic grooves sticking up on the inside back of the case which left two nice long scratches on the back of my brand new ipod. Why these grooves are there I have no idea. There is a minute bit of space around the ipod within the case, but it's enough for it to rattle around inside of.
Go with the Contour Showcase Classic, it's the best ipod case I've ever owned!
Clever iPod Protector.......2007-11-26
I have absolutely no idea why the other people ended up with scratches on their iPods from this case. Unless there was some manufacturing defect in the particular case they purchased I can't figure that one out. However this case, made to contain the smaller Apple 30 GB iPod AAC/MP3 Video Player Black (5.5 Generation) as well as the Apple 80 GB iPod classic (Black) does have a removable plastic insert that is needed to snug the 30GB in place. If that part was not removed before someone attempted to insert a larger iPod then I could see it scratching the iPod forced into the case.
Having been so pleased with the DLO VideoShell Protective case for 80GB and 160GB iPod? classics with a kickstand I bought for my 80GB (the larger case which will hold the 80GB and Apple 160 GB iPod classic (Black)), I purchased one of these for my 30GB. Again, I liked the look and the functional kickstand which lets me set the iPod up to watch videos-- restaurants when I have to eat alone are a favorite place, or to use on a nightstand as a travel alarm clock.
In order to get the 30GB to fit though it is necessary to remove a small rectangular piece of plastic from the case before insertion. It does have a couple of plastic ridges sticking out at right angles from the surface. Insert the 30GB iPod (carefully) and then facing the flat part of the plastic rectangle toward the back of the iPod, slide it back into the case-- it only goes about half way, don't force it down any more because it supports the iPod in an upright position when the kickstand is in use.
If you are using this case with an 80GB iPod then you don't need the plastic insert at all and should toss it in a drawer where you shortly forget all about it. A few months later you will be cleaning out the drawer, wonder what on earth that thing was for, then put it back because it might be important. I would have much tidier drawers if it wasn't for this habit.
Not So Good........2007-08-12
Plastic casing would not snap closed for my 80G - straight from the box...don't waste your money! The whole thing felt like it was going to crack into pieces if I tried to force it any more closed. At least this product on Amazon is almost half the price of what I paid at a very popular retailer.
will scratch the hell out of your 80gb ipod.......2007-06-21
This case was responsible for unsightly scratches on the back and sides of my ipod. It also caused scratching on the click wheel. The only reason the face wasn't scratched so bad was because I put a protective film over the face of my ipod before using this case. Don't buy this crap if you ever want to sell your ipod, or just want to keep it in mint condition because it cost you 350.
Kick Stand Needs Improvement.......2007-06-09
Provides good protection for the iPod, but I bought it for the Kick Stand feature to watch movies while flying. The Kick Stand slides up from the top and then folds down where the arms lock in place in the middle via slightly raised plastic bumps on each side. The problem is that the arms are too thin and need more pressure to keep locked in place. Given the weight of the 5.5 iPod (mine is 80G), it doesn't take much pressure against the iPod to make the Kick Stand fail and collapse. I had to use a rubber band to help give the legs more pressure to stay locked in place.

Looks great, plastic piece over screen falls out.......2007-05-28
I like how this Tuffwrap looks and it has kept my iPod free of scratches. My only problem is with the plastic piece that covers the screen. It tends to fall out from time to time.
