Customer Reviews:
Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-24
I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.
Enjoy!
Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.
Good Product.......2007-07-26
I recommend this product over similar products that are outrageously expensive. Powerful sound for it's size and easy to use. Great value.
Wow, under 15 bucks including shipping!.......2007-07-04
Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.
JLab Audio.......2007-06-08
The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

Great sound quality for such a tiny package.......2007-11-05
I bought the miniblaster portable speaker in December 2006. I was amazed at the quality of the sound for such tiny speakers. Now, almost one year later, the speakers are still going strong. If you are looking for good quality pocket size speakers, these are a good choice.
A Great iPod Speaker........2007-08-08
It is tiny, compact (no wiggley parts to break off) it runs on batteries as well as AC and I am completely delighted with it.JLab Audio MBBG1 Miniblaster Portable Speaker for iPod Nano (Gen 1) - Black
STOP THINKING AND BUY IT.......2007-07-28
Best bang for the buck...i read all the reviews. just buy it. you can't beat $15 shipped. it gets the job done.
Excellent Company.......2007-06-11
My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.

Great sound in a very stylish package.......2007-12-14
I just bought this boombox after much research at my local Apple store and electronic stores. I looked at the iGroove, SoundDock, Zeppelin, and Altec Lansing units. I believe the Go+Play has the superior sound.
The sound is definitely more solid and musical than the Bose SoundDock and comparable to the new B&W Zeppelin which sells for quite a bit more. The styling is very retro and the stainless steel handle makes it easy to carry around, but does obscure direct viewing of the iPod screen. The unit comes with two rubber dock inserts (for Nano and Mini iPods), and 8 different sized dock adaptors. I am using mine with my new 160 GB iPod Classic and though none of the adaptors is designed specifically for the 160GB Classic, I find that the rubber insert for the Nano works just fine. It allows the iPod to dock at a slight upwards angle, so that viewing the screen is better than when the iPod is completely flat in the well.
The unit comes with several jacks in the back (e.g. USB for syncing, miniplug for external audio units, laptops, etc, and S-video out). I haven't tried the S-video out, since I was told that the Classic requires a special Apple decoding chip to view videos on external monitors. The 8 D-cell batteries can be inserted into the unit from the back, for complete portable operation.
The remote is unusually shaped, and the buttons are not intuitively arranged, but it is RF, not infrared, so it can control from across the room, through walls, etc. The boombox even has a special compartment for stowing the remote.
All in all, I feel that the Go + Play is a very high quality iPod boombox that puts out excellent bass, mid, and treble sound. The cost is relatively high, but you are paying for the robust construction, quality engineering design, and most of all, heavenly sound.
Edit: After a week, I noticed that no sound was coming out of the left rear speaker grille. I asked Harman customer service and they told me that all 4 drivers are in the front of the unit. There is a tuned port behind the right rear speaker grille, and the left grille, I guess, is there only for symmetry.
Excellent sound--but watch out!.......2007-11-17
The sound of this boombox is extraordinary, given the size. You can hear each instrument distinctly. The soundfield is big and the bass is impressive.
But beware: you might find yourself wasting time for two reasons.
1.) If you're like me, you'll wind up re-ripping all of your CDs. I had imported my disks into iTunes at the standard bit rate of 128, and music sounded fine through cheap earphones and speakers. Then I heard a lossless track through Shure 500/530 earphones and through this boombox, and wow! Tracks at 128 sound just dandy, but at higher rates the difference is quite noticeable, even to casual listeners. For the first time, I can hear the difference bit rate makes, and I'm no audiophile. So look out! If you buy this excellent item, you might suddenly find yourself re-ripping CDs, then shopping amazon for a new hard drive to fit that suddenly huge iTunes library. It's a slippery slope.
2.) If you're like me, you'll also end up zoning out and just listening to your music. I bought this boombox for its portability, so that I could take it along on activities. But it BECOMES the activity. For instance, when I take it into the kitchen, I often find myself staring into space, hands in dishwater, wondering why I'd never heard a detail before....
Yep, this box is costly, and as I've suggested, it can spoil you and lead to other costs. (I'm quite dissatisfied with my cheap-o home stereo now.) But this box can also enrich your relationship with your music.
Excellent Sound.......2007-11-11
Crisp highs and solid lows. Nice balance which is good because there are no modulators or filters. Not even a bass boost. But, hey haven't needed it. Spendy, but best iPod boom box I've heard--by far. As they say, you get what you pay for with this one.
Alot of power in a little box.......2007-10-29
I bought the Bose portable Soundock, then the Klipsch I-Groove, and then the Altec Lansing I-6000. This sound system blows them all away. It is in a word excellent. Too bad it uses "D" batteries instead of a rechargeable lithium battery. I take ti everywhere with me. I highly recommend it as your I-Pod boom box.
good sound low volume.......2007-10-24
I got this so I could take it along with me to a rented room for a private event. The sound is decent not excellent, the bass is very good for a small unit but the treble is average.
The main drawbacks to the unit is that the price is soo high, the volume is not loud enough, it only has s-video out and you cannot see the ipod when it is docked
