Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-24
I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.
Enjoy!
Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.
Good Product.......2007-07-26
I recommend this product over similar products that are outrageously expensive. Powerful sound for it's size and easy to use. Great value.
Wow, under 15 bucks including shipping!.......2007-07-04
Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.
JLab Audio.......2007-06-08
The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

Great sound quality for such a tiny package.......2007-11-05
I bought the miniblaster portable speaker in December 2006. I was amazed at the quality of the sound for such tiny speakers. Now, almost one year later, the speakers are still going strong. If you are looking for good quality pocket size speakers, these are a good choice.
A Great iPod Speaker........2007-08-08
It is tiny, compact (no wiggley parts to break off) it runs on batteries as well as AC and I am completely delighted with it.JLab Audio MBBG1 Miniblaster Portable Speaker for iPod Nano (Gen 1) - Black
STOP THINKING AND BUY IT.......2007-07-28
Best bang for the buck...i read all the reviews. just buy it. you can't beat $15 shipped. it gets the job done.
Excellent Company.......2007-06-11
My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.

Excellent Unit.......2007-12-26
The Sony Clock with iPod Dock - Black (ICFC1IPBLK)combines all the attributes that I was looking for; decent sound, good alarm clock and iPod functionality. If there is anything that could be improved, it would be that an AM tuner is also included which it is not. A few of the highlights include, dimmer for display, 2 alarm settings that work with both FM radio and iPod, sleep timer, good remote for full control of iPod and volume, 5 FM presets. I also wanted a unit that the iPod had a back to rest on when in the cradle vs many that have the iPod completely exposed and held vertical by the connector in cradle. I was worried that you could accidently push the iPod and possibly bend the connector while coming out of a sleep and looking to hit the snooze button.
I researched many units quite extensively and decided that this Sony unit had best combination of features.
A very nice radio .......2007-12-17
I just got the radio as a gift and I couldn't be happier it does everything I need it to do and more.....Sound is great for a clock radio....So if you are in the market for a clock radio look not further you have found the best one on the market....
Worked great...for a month.......2007-12-14
From a functionality standpoint, I was happy with this alarm clock/iPod dock. But after a month, some of the buttons on the base stopped working. Specifically, the off button and all the buttons to adjust the time and alarm functions did nothing. I called Sony, who was of little help. They told me to ship it, at my expense, to Texas for repair. The rep didn't even have me try the reset button, which might have easily resolved the problem (though it didn't). I guess I didn't expect to have to pay to ship a new Sony product back to them when the issue is clearly some sort of defect. Looks to me like Sony has joined the race to the bottom when it comes to quality.
Very little room for improvement.......2007-12-10
Two words summarize this review: I'm impressed. Although Sony doesn't make the iPod, they've done an excellent job integrating it into this clock radio.
The clock radio has the same opening for the iPod as the Apple Remote Dock, allowing the adapter that comes with the iPod to fit the clock radio perfectly. Nice touch, Sony. The adjustable "foot" that supports the iPod is exactly what I was looking for. I just KNEW that if I got a clock radio that didn't fully support the iPod, that I would knock it over, searching for the alarm off button, and break the connector, the iPod, or both.
The included remote control allows for MENU functionality that the Apple Remote Dock doesn't even support. Great job, Sony... bad job, Apple. This allows you to switch between videos and music using the remote control. This is particularly nice because I enjoy watching a quick TV show on my iPod before going to sleep.
There are only two things I would change: I would add a pass-through dock connector, so I could connect it to my computer and sync my iPod. Right now, you have to remove the iPod to sync it or use the video out cable (for a TV).
Second, I would change the backlight brightness levels. It has three brightness settings: Bright, really bright, and supernova. Maybe I'm more sensitive to light when I'm sleeping than some people, but WOW it is bright. I usually put the remote control in front of the display.
Overall, the audio quality is better than most clock radios (but not as good as stand-alone, and more expensive, iPod speaker systems), is easy to set the clock and alarm times, and has excellent iPod integration. This is an excellent choice.

Customer Reviews:
Simple, does its job.......2007-11-27
My only complaint so far is the FM reception is not that great. Could be that apartment has poor signal, but I have to turn off the FM stereo mode to get rid of the static noise. On FM mono the reception is good. I like the iPod adjustable support, so that the iPod fits snug into the holder.
Great product, nice features.......2007-11-21
I had previously purchased an iMode radio/dock to use as a simple dock and radio in my office. It seemed simple enough for my needs, but ultimately the iMode was clearly not well made, with static in the background of the radio all the time, and the clock repeatedly malfunctioned showing AM instead of PM, etc... So I returned it, did some more research and bought the Sony iPod Clock dock.
I am very impressed with the Sony thus far! It is well designed, and shows Sony's experience with clock radios. It has both AM and FM radio, which some other docks don't have, and that was important to me. Neatest of all is that the remote fully controls the iPod when it is docked, meaning you can scroll through menus and change songs from across the room. The sounds is quite clear, and I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase. It is a great product for this price point.
See also reviews on cNet which were very helpful and informative.
Simple, Easy, Good Sound, and Good Value.......2007-11-10
I was looking for iPod dock speaker and comparing some products at Apple store. It was absolutely SONY's clear sound. I bought it for my new iPod nano, and it's good fit for that. And also, it's easy to control by remote. Built-in FM/AM radio is also fine. I can't believe the price is less than $100.
best iPod clock radio you can buy - great sound, great radio, compatible with new iPods and iPhone.......2007-10-09
Several weeks ago, I upgraded to a new 160GB iPod Classic. At the same time, I bought an XtremeMac Luna clock radio, which had good reviews. Unfortunately, I found that the Luna is incompatible with the new iPods - it cannot wake them from deep sleep to play the alarm in the morning. A call to XtremeMac got nothing more than a note that my issue had been forwarded to their technical team.
Without any reviews, I took a chance, and ordered the Sony ICF-C1iP iPod clock radio, and am I glad I did! The Sony is fully compatible with my iPod Classic, and Sony includes instructions for using the iPhone as well. And, the sound quality and radio performance is remarkably better than the Luna or other iPod clock radios I've tested.
Sony has done a great job with the ICF-C1iP. It is an upright design, with most of the unit behind the iPod, in a slanted design with controls at the top. The iPod dock accepts universal adapters, but they aren't really needed as Sony has an adjustable supporting plate behind the iPod.
Unlike the Luna, which attempts to duplicate the iPod menus on its display, the Sony ICF-C1iP includes a remote control that lets you completely control the iPod menus as if you were manipulating the scroll wheel. Quite impressive.
Sound quality is very good for a clock radio - with full bass and even midtones. Sony includes a simulated mode they call "Mega XPand" that in my experience made the music sound muddied and under-sampled. Your mileage my vary.
The blue-backlit clock is located in the iPod dock area, and 3 brightness levels are available. In my experience, even the lowest setting is a bit too bright, but not enough to disturb me at night. I wish that the display were slightly larger, although the high contrast lets me see the time without my glasses from a reasonable distance.
And, unlike most iPod clock radios, the radio reception is outstanding - with an external AM antenna provided. The unit has dual alarms, which can be set to iPod (you can even select a wakeup volume), Radio, or Buzzer.
On the downside, the battery backup for the buzzer alarm and clock is a small expensive lithium battery. And, if your relying on just the buzzer to wake you up it's not very loud. You also have to be careful when changing the alarms to make sure that you don't accidentally turn the alarm off. But all of these are minor issues. However, these are all very minor issues that don't detract from the unit overall.
All in all, in my experience, this is the best iPod clock radio you can buy.
