When my item arrived the screen was scratched, but besides that the picture didn't "shine through as if by magic". It was difficult to view videos because the screen was so dark and it was so reflective all you saw was your face shining back at you. Even if it was free it would not be a good case. Don't waste your time or money on this product.

This case looks very nice. If you have a brand new ipod, I dont suggest it because it is not that good at protecting your ipod. However, I have a preaty well used ipod video (with the clear faceplate) and this case covers up all the scratches. It is also a very effective mirror. I must say that I droped my ipod with this case and the two base corners of the front reflective plastic faceplate broke off. Its not really a big deal, and the case itself never poped off. I bought it from the apple store for $30!!!! (but i had a gift card) I buy it for the cool effect of turning on the screen through the mirrior!

I ordered this for an apple ipod video 5g. I have one for a new ipod nano and it is beautiful. The first one arrived with scuffs on it. They couldn't be removed. When I looked at the packaging, the same scuffs were on the packaging. It appeared that the packaging had rubbed on the screen, damaging it. I returned it easily to amazon, which promptly sent out a replacement, even before they received my product back. Sadly, the replacement had the exact same problem. I returned it, too and looked locally. I found one left locally. I looked at it and sure enough, it, too, was scuffed. Griffin has changed the packaging on the later versions (for the nano, etc) of this item and the new packaging seems to protect the screen just fine. If you can find one of these undamaged, they seem to hold up well, but getting a good one might be tough.

I thought that this case was going to be actual chrome--but is plastic. I was unable to see the screen unless I turned it on. I was unable to see the screen when I was outside--it was too dark. The corner cracked the first time I attempted to put the case on. The case would not fit over my ipod thin clear plastic covers. I suggest not to buy this product.

I've bought this produt thinking it was for the new ipod with video.
it's not easy to know to what kind of ipod is.
My friend just bought the same thing in a regular store and i decided to buy the same, that's why i tried to buy this.
Says case for Ipod 5g w/ video.
first of all i don't know a ipod with 5g i tought was a mistake.
then a returned the item, like 15 days ago and i didn't receive my refund yet.
that's why i'm saying this

My biggest problem with this case is there is virtually NO protection for the screen at all. It comes with one of those thin, stick-on scratch guards, but that's it. No protection should you accidentally hit the corner of a table or you put it in your pocket with your keys.
The shell around the rest of the ipod is solid, I just wish they could have extended so it covers the screen.
The kickstand is a nice feature, but you have to open the back of the case, leaving your ipod exposed, plus, you have to unplug then replug your headphones to open it. Would have been nice if they could have come up with a kind of flip-down stand that still leaves the case closed.
There are also two plastic grooves sticking up on the inside back of the case which left two nice long scratches on the back of my brand new ipod. Why these grooves are there I have no idea. There is a minute bit of space around the ipod within the case, but it's enough for it to rattle around inside of.
Go with the Contour Showcase Classic, it's the best ipod case I've ever owned!
Clever iPod Protector.......2007-11-26
I have absolutely no idea why the other people ended up with scratches on their iPods from this case. Unless there was some manufacturing defect in the particular case they purchased I can't figure that one out. However this case, made to contain the smaller Apple 30 GB iPod AAC/MP3 Video Player Black (5.5 Generation) as well as the Apple 80 GB iPod classic (Black) does have a removable plastic insert that is needed to snug the 30GB in place. If that part was not removed before someone attempted to insert a larger iPod then I could see it scratching the iPod forced into the case.
Having been so pleased with the DLO VideoShell Protective case for 80GB and 160GB iPod? classics with a kickstand I bought for my 80GB (the larger case which will hold the 80GB and Apple 160 GB iPod classic (Black)), I purchased one of these for my 30GB. Again, I liked the look and the functional kickstand which lets me set the iPod up to watch videos-- restaurants when I have to eat alone are a favorite place, or to use on a nightstand as a travel alarm clock.
In order to get the 30GB to fit though it is necessary to remove a small rectangular piece of plastic from the case before insertion. It does have a couple of plastic ridges sticking out at right angles from the surface. Insert the 30GB iPod (carefully) and then facing the flat part of the plastic rectangle toward the back of the iPod, slide it back into the case-- it only goes about half way, don't force it down any more because it supports the iPod in an upright position when the kickstand is in use.
If you are using this case with an 80GB iPod then you don't need the plastic insert at all and should toss it in a drawer where you shortly forget all about it. A few months later you will be cleaning out the drawer, wonder what on earth that thing was for, then put it back because it might be important. I would have much tidier drawers if it wasn't for this habit.
Not So Good........2007-08-12
Plastic casing would not snap closed for my 80G - straight from the box...don't waste your money! The whole thing felt like it was going to crack into pieces if I tried to force it any more closed. At least this product on Amazon is almost half the price of what I paid at a very popular retailer.

This case was responsible for unsightly scratches on the back and sides of my ipod. It also caused scratching on the click wheel. The only reason the face wasn't scratched so bad was because I put a protective film over the face of my ipod before using this case. Don't buy this crap if you ever want to sell your ipod, or just want to keep it in mint condition because it cost you 350.
Kick Stand Needs Improvement.......2007-06-09
Provides good protection for the iPod, but I bought it for the Kick Stand feature to watch movies while flying. The Kick Stand slides up from the top and then folds down where the arms lock in place in the middle via slightly raised plastic bumps on each side. The problem is that the arms are too thin and need more pressure to keep locked in place. Given the weight of the 5.5 iPod (mine is 80G), it doesn't take much pressure against the iPod to make the Kick Stand fail and collapse. I had to use a rubber band to help give the legs more pressure to stay locked in place.

this product does exactly what it needs to, i just wish i found it months ago when i got my ipod.
you will need to be very fastidious about cleaning your ipod before the application, application is not exactly easy, but if you care about your ipod you'll figure it out. all that makes it difficult is lining up the the shield with the edges of the ipod. but the adhesive is pretty forgiving and will let you try once or twice if you miss the mark.
you can barely tell the shield is on the front of the ipod. The package comes with shields for the back as well. You can tell the rear shield is there, but who cares? it's the back! do you polish the soles of your shoes?
The only draw back is that you might notice that the surface of the shield will get greasy or foggy, big deal, it goes away, this is not between the shield and the ipod, it's on the outside.

Great case for Video iPod.......2007-11-01
I bought this leather case for my wife's 30GB video iPod. I had a black one for myself. The case protects the iPod perfectly, since very little is exposed to the elements. The true feature of this case is the ability to create a "kickstand" to allow perfect viewing of the screen for movies, TV shows, or music videos. I watch my iPod on my lunch break all the time, and this case is prefect. The only negative aspect of the case is the belt clip at the bottom of the case. It must be unclipped in order to charge the iPod. But this is also a good thing as the belt will help protect the connector from getting dirty or damaged as is the possibility with cases that allow easy access. The reason for this design is it is necessary to slide the iPod down thru the bottom (and out of the top half of the case) in order to create the kickstand position. I'd highly recommned this case for your Video iPod.
Also works fine for the new Classic iPod. The click wheel is less responsive for some reason with new iPods tho.
Fashionable Protection for Your Ipod Video But...........2006-03-10
...be prepared to do a little work to make it work. This case not only offers fashionable and durable protection for my iPod (original casing, screen and click-wheel), but when I want to watch a movie, the case can be fastened in to a convenient stand. This is definitely a welcome change from staring down at the table, which is a strain if you do it often. Also nice if you are plugged into speakers and more than one person is watching. In theory? Wonderful idea. In practice? It takes awhile to "break the case in" enough for the fastener to actually stay shut and not pop open just as soon as you snap the thing together for viewing in kickstand mode. I would have preferred a case where you could plug in an electric charger or a TuneJuice while in kickstand mode, but you can still easily charge while your case is in standard mode. For the price, it's definitely a nicer product than most of the leather cases I've looked at. For ultimate functionality? Ultimately well worth it, particularly if you watch a lot of videos and short clips on your iPod.

I was always uptight about my iPod getting scratched or broken and I almost wouldn't take it out of my room, but with the case I can be a little more relaxed. The kickstand feature is great for watching videos so you don't have to hold it. I bought the black color and it looks very stylish. So I give it 5 stars for being functional, feesable, and most-importantly good looking.

I bought this based on others' very strong reviews for my 80 gb iPod (it isn't easy to find cases for the 80 gb model). Everything they said was right on, and it is very protective and easy to put on. But it has two potential challenges, depending on what your needs are. There is no way to secure it to your person - no belt clip or such, so without a secure pocket, you have to hold it in order to have it with you when listening to it (while walking the dog, running, gardening, etc.). The other concern is that I had purchased a small set of portable speakers to use on a trip, and the iPod in the case does not fit into the slot designed for it. You cannot dock it while in the case, though you certainly can connect the synch cable and the headphones that come with the iPod. I've had my iPod in it for all of its 2 months of life and it is certainly well protected. But I wonder if a case with a clip might work better for me. I encourage you to think about what your needs are first. It is well made, easy to use, well priced, and does what it says it does. Good value.
Excellent Case.......2007-03-21
I'm very happy with this case. I've purchased two, both for the same iPod. The first one was damaged when I dropped the iPod onto a concrete floor. The case was cracked but the iPod was totally unharmed. In that case I was happy to pay the $20 for a replacement.
I like that the access areas on the case are large enough to allow third-party cables to attach easily. For example, headphones with larger plugs have no problem plugging in through this case.

When I first recieved this case, it looked nice and worked very well for me. Over time, however, I beegan to realize the clear plastic that covered the screen was scratching it up.
