Audio quality is disappointing.......2007-12-21
I bought this because I want play my mp3 player in my car. I commute through the new york, new jersey area so I knew before I bought it that it might struggle against the megawatt stations that dominate the FM frequencies here. It does struggle, but I have found a few freqencies that are passable. I planned on removing the built-in attenuation to get a better signal, but I'm not sure I'll bother anymore.
The killer for this product for me is the audio quality. It is nowhere near as good as a decent FM station, better than a cell phone connection, and maybe better than AM. My car has a stock stereo in it with pretty average sound, but I wasn't willing to take the additional hit to sound quality so will find another way to listen.
I guess it depends on expectations whether this is a great product or one for the back of the cupboard. It certainly worked as it said it would, I just expected better sound quality.
Poor range, needs to go outside of 88.1 FM.......2007-12-17
I'm returning this device, which I wanted to use to broadcast audio from my TV over FM.
Unfortunately, you can only tune it to 88.1 - 107.9 -- it would be more useful if it went outside that range (where there aren't any FM radio stations), especially in the 87's.
The critical limitation is the range. The range in the product description is 30 ft. I got about 5 feet, and that was with static. I only got a relatively clear signal at about 6 inches. I tried a number of stations.
Very disappointing.
Bad reception...........2007-12-07
I don't recommend this ones, because it doesn't give a good volume on your receiver.
Cheap and it works (sometimes)........2007-12-03
I guess I am a little picky when it comes to sound quality. I have a line in on my car stereo and my mp3 player sounds great. My wife's car doesn't have a line in so I need to use a FM transmitter to get sound to the stereo but didn't want to spend much too much. Well I didn't expect too much from this transmitter and I'm glad I didn't because I would have been disappointed. It does transmit but it doesn't sound great and suffers from interference often (I don't live in a big city I wouldn't even bother with this if I did). I did add a longer line in cable, 6 feet, and that seems to help some since it basically increased the size of the antenna. But my wife isn't picky about sound quality so this is fine for her, you get what you pay for!
bad signal.......2007-11-26
I'm i little disappointed. I use it in my car mainly, and the signal is very weak. And it was so hard to find a frequency free, maybe it has to do with it.
One good think, is easy to use.

buy the mobile power cord for better performance.......2007-12-03
I took the TuneCast II on a road trip to Canada, and I had major problems getting reception all the way between Chicago and Toronto. It seemed to help if I was touching the unit, such as if it was in my lap. It also burned through batteries. Now that I bought a mobile power cord (//www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001J3Q9W), it seems to ground the unit or something, and I never have problems with reception. The sound quality is decent, but not great. I have to turn up my radio considerably to pick up the sound. It's easy to work and does a decent job. Bypass this and plug directly into you auxiliary jack if your stereo has one.
Works OK Within 3 Feet for the First Month or Two, Then Nada.......2007-11-10
The unit must be right next to an antenna for it to give a rather low quality sound. I used it for talk radio, so it wasn't too bad. But then it totally crapped out after about 2 months. If you have money to throw away, then this is for you!!
Less convenient than the radio .......2007-09-15
Well, I bought this for use in my car because it is a battery operated transmitter and my cigarette lighter port is blown out. I thought it would be nice to listen to the ipod in my car, and my non-battery operated model works like a charm. Not so with this one. I know the fcc regulates fm transmitters to low power, but this is ridiculous. I only got a clear signal if I actually touched the transmitter to the car antenna. I thought it might be my car, but it did the same thing with the other three cars I tried. To make matters worse, as some of the previous reviews state, the batteries run out very rapidly, making it worthwhile to invest in duracell stock if you plan on using this product for extended periods of time. Overall very poor performance.
Waste of Money.......2007-07-31
After receiving the TuneCastII to used with my iPod Nano, I noticed the batteries would go dead in the TuneCastII even when the unit wasn't being used within a two week period. I contacted Belkin and they said to return the unit to them and I paid the shipping. I received a new one from them and sure enough, this one does the same thing.
It appears that the unit is still 'on' even though it appears off using up the batteries. Maybe this is due to the 'auto' on/off signal function requiring power to work. I'd rather just have a normal on/off switch to use and save on batteries. Or supply the car adapter with the unit instead of having to pay another $20 for it.
Besides the battery issue, the transmitter is very weak and after trying numerious locations in the car and different frequencies I have found listening to the iPod Nano more of a pain with the TuneCastII and have gone back to just listening to the radio.
Don't waste your money on this item!!!!!
Good for the I-85/95 East Coast Corridor.......2007-07-23
I regularly commute along I-85, I-95 up through DC and use this with my Photo iPod. I get great reception, but I probably have to change frequency once throughout the course of the trip (just because of a local radio station that uses "my" frequency, but there are always several I can jump to). I use this with the Belkin Car charger (which powers both the iPod and the FM Transmitter) and I'm very happy with them both!

Doesn't work with Motorola RAZR V3M.......2006-07-18
As far as FM Transmitters go, this one probably works as good as any of them out there. This unit shuts off after 60 sec. of no radio signal. According to Belkin tech support, there is no way to override this timeout. Because the RAZR uses a mini USB headphone jack, the user has to use the headset adapter (supplied with the phone or bought separately), an adapter to convert from 2.5 to 3.5, and then you can plug in to the FM transmitter. Because of all of these adapters, it doesn't see a radio signal therefore will only remain powered on for 1 minute at a time. Pretty darn useless for RAZR owners.

Useful.......2006-12-07
Belkin offers a version of this that costs less because it programs only to four preset frequencies. In our area all four are too close to an actual radio station to offer a clear channel. So, I paid more and chose the infinitely variable tuning version. Still, if you drive into an area covered by a station on the same frequency that you have chosen to use, the signal from this unit is strong enough to overpower the radio station's signal, unless it is a very strong station.
The unit will not turn on until it receives an audio signal from your player at a sufficient sound volume. It is easy to think wrongly your unit is defective because it will not turn on. The "auto on" feature is useful. Just turn the player on or off and the transmitter follows suit almost instantaneously.
The unit is easy to program and to use. The included power adapter fed by the cigarette lighter is a nice extra feature.
The unit plays clean sound when your car is parked in an open area. When driving or parking near certain types of structures or electrical interference, you will hear hisses and rumbles through your car speakers. Sometimes improvement can be found by using this device in a different vehicle or at a different frequency. Still, there are areas where some unexplained interference drowns the signal with a loud buzz. Then all you can do is to shut off the player until you are past the source of interference.
This unit works well for listening to Podcasts or an audio book; but would be disconcerting to anyone who wanted to listen to music, especially if he did not grow up in the era of top 40 hits on old AM tube radios with all of their pops, hisses, wows, and flutters.

Very poor performance.......2007-08-27
The radio signal is very weak. Can't make it to work correctly even closer than 1m. I've tried with a portable small radio and with my car's receiver with unusable results in both situation.
Horrible.......2007-08-13
Really bad reception to my radio and very cheaply made. The cord was pulling away from the wires inside it... you could even then see the metal wire inside that.. if that makes sense... I'm too lazy to paint a better picture. All in all, completely unusable for me. I'm going to have to invest in a radio with an aux input. That's just the only way to go.
I'm assuming I just got one of the bad ones construction wise. And I'm sure the reception has to do with many factors. My antenna for one is not that great in the car. That's the only reason why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. It worked if I held the thing out the window next my antenna.. Otherwise it's crap (for me)..
