Nice toy, Bad tool.......2007-12-24
I'm training for a marathon and thought the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit would help me in my runs. I've been using www.gmap-pedometer.com to lay out the mileage before my runs but thought a real-time pedometer like this would be nice. On my first run (without calibration) I ran my regular 6 mile route and the unit registered 6.6 miles.
I went to use a treadmill at the gym to calibrate it using the 400-m distance and tested the unit's accuracy again using the same treadmill and it was still off. The only good thing about this is that it's consistent with it's error of about 10% so I factor this into my runs. I've found that the calculations can be affected by my stride and pace.
On my long runs I find it useful in acting as a distraction as I try to calculate errors from the actual distance versus Nike ipod unit. Some sites they mention the unit uses either a pressure or an accelerometer piezoelectric sensor. I tried a simple test of either continuously slamming the sensor against a hard surface to mimic acceleration forces, or pressing my fingers against the sensor to mimic pressure exerted by the foot. Only the slamming action seemed to register with the receiver so I'm assuming that the sensor is indeed an accelerometer-based piezoelectric sensor.
Remember to factor in the errors and this might be useful in tracking your pace and distance (using the nikeplus website). It's a nice toy but not worthy of consideration for those serious about their running equipment. It's marginally recommended.
Long term reliability issues........2007-12-24
I like most of these reviewers thought this device was the best thing ever, I could live with the slight error in distance calculations, but the reason I only give this device 2 stars and I send this word of warning to all is after about 6 months these devices start having problems (check the Nike+ Q & A section as I am not alone)You will be out for a run or walk and the device will end your workout without your input. I have changed sensors, receivers and even the Nano I use it on and still the problem continues, I am unsure of the reason, but am disappointed with all the complaints that Nike is receiving something is not being done. Good luck and run long.
Why are you still FAT???.......2007-12-21
I purchased the Nike+Ipod kit about 4 months ago, and have used it for every run since then (average 1-3 per week). If you've browsed through the other reviews then you're already familiar with the basics. You plug it into your iPOD nano, calibrate it against a known distance, and then run as far and as fast as you like while being soothed by your own music collection, and audible run data reports. As a former collegiate runner, and military officer I found this especially useful for monitoring the intensity of my workouts and my progress towards various fitness goals. If you are the least bit serious about running on pace, setting goals, or competing, this is the device for you. If you don't already have a nano, I would actually recommend getting one just for this function.
Some people have complained about accuracy, and I have had my run-ins with this issue as well. But there's a very simple fix for it. CALIBRATE it again. When I started running with the Nike+, I was in relatively poor shape for my fitness level. As I grew stronger and stronger I began to notice that the device said I was running the same speed. I hypothesized that as I grew stronger, my running form changed enough for the accelerometer to misinterpret my distance and speed. When I recalibrated the device against a known 1-mile distance, I found it to be accurate down to the .01 mile on the next run and reporting times consistent with my speed over the last 6-7 years.
In conclusion, this is a fabulous device that does it's job in helping you meet fitness goals. So with something like this on the market, why are you still fat?
Great Motivation.......2007-12-21
This is a great product for motivating someone to run. I would suggest getting the shoe pouch to go along with it as well as a case to hold the nano and the receiver at the same time. I would not suggest getting the case with no window as it does not allow you to see the screen of the nano. Nike makes another one with a clear view of the screen for a little more.
Great Motivator!.......2007-12-11
I was worried how difficult it would be for me to learn the in's and out's of this product (I'm not techno savy). To my surprise, it was so easy...pretty much PLUG THE THING IN!
I've never owned an iPod before so the whole experience was new to me, but within 30 minutes of opening the packaging (the 3rd generation Nano, Sports Kit and arm relay band) I was out running!
It is a real motivator for me to get out there and see how far, how fast and how many calories I can burn. I've only been saving my workouts on the Nano, but look foward to posting them on the website to chart my progress.
For some people the Nike+Sport kit might not give them enough information (heart rate, etc), but I'm in love! Thanks NIKE and iPod!

Wonderful tool.......2007-12-13
I have zero problems with this device. It's accurate, cheap, and informational. You don't have to purchase Nike+ gear or shoes to use this device. Aftermarket holders and arm bands are cheap and effective.
nike + ipod.......2007-08-23
was disappointed that i didn't have a pouch or whatever you need to old the sensor in. i guess that was extra. they should tell you that if you don't have the nike adpated ipod shoe, you will have this sensor to deal with.
i do enjoy the feedback that i get when i press the ipod. though, sometimes when i would press the middle button to get feedback, the bottom menu button presses and this pauses workout. it gets irritating.
Outstanding!.......2007-08-06
You will love this toy! And yes, that is what it is! It is an electronic gadget that helps you stay on track and stay focused on your walking/running routine. I have been orking out at the gym for about 2 years now. I go almost every day. I enjoy it. Really...I do!
But getting on a treadmill and walking/running was not my thing. It seemed...well...boring.
So my wife gets me this. I hook it up (very easy) drop the sensor into the little pouch (sorry Nike but I don't do well in your shoes) and away I go.
Now...I run on my own! Every day! I run before work in the morning and go to the gym in the evenings with the wife. It motivates you to do a little more just because you can track your runs so much better than trying to do it on your own. It is easy to use, easy tp install, and somehow...takes a guy that never has had much interest in running and makes him want to go do a daily run, just so I can look at it on the computer and see if I was better than yesterday! Silly...but it is a fantastic motivational tool that works!
Buy one if you are thinking about your own health and fitness and you will watch your progress every day! It's a good thing to get addicted to!
Something you may not like about this product.......2007-03-29
This product is generally well designed but one thing that prevents me from enjoying it is when I plug it in, the ipod become too long to hold in hand. The original ipod nano has just the right length to hold comfortably between my thumb and little finger. By holding ipod this way you worry less about it slip through your hand. However, when the NIKE+IPOD receiver is attached, it can no longer be held in this way, and you will need to buy an arm band etc.
Another thing I don't like about this product is the NIKE+ website. It could have been so much more fun if they put functionality before how cool it looks. The website is entirely in flash, and it takes 100% CPU when you use it. A lot of time you won't be able to do what you want, for example look at other people's run profile (speed vs. time)
Yay!.......2007-03-10
I love it. It has totally changed how I work out. My only gripe is that it does not come with software but directly contacts the nike+ website....which makes you have to put all of your info to share. I would rather have my own personal software to monitor my workouts and optionally choose to go to the website.

sportsuit for ipod nano 3G.......2007-12-25
This a very good product for those who run or workout. I use it everyday!
Works great.......2007-12-11
This product worked just as it says. Fits great and is perfect for the Nano with Nike+. The little space for the wireless receiver works great. Also the little hole for the headphone plug is exactly where it should be. The only drawback is sometimes it is difficult to use the controls through the plastic. But this is not really a big issue. A couple times I have paused runs by pressing the pause button, while attempting to press the center button, to hear run information. Now im a little more careful, and this really isnt a problem. I like that it can be worn on the wrist or upper arm. Works great and is made well. I would recommend.
GREAT DEAL!.......2007-12-11
This product exceeded my expectations! When I ordered this product I thought...MAKE SURE YOU GET AN ARM BAND THAT WILL FIT THE NEW NANO and THE WIRELESS RECEIVER...that was my only criteria.
Then when I receive the package I was VERY happy to see that a shoe wallet came with it (when I switch shoes between back to back runs) and that the band can fit not only on my upper arm, but on my wrist! I LOVE THAT PART! It's easy to see and move the wheel while walking...while running it is more difficult.
Couldn't be happier with this item and HIGHLY recommend it to my fellow running friends!
Ipod 3G Marware Armband.......2007-11-26
The Marware Sportsuit was better than expected. It allows for a pouch to use the Nike Plus system and also includes a shoe wallet for the sensor. This allows you to use shoes other than Nike and it works great. The Sportsuit can also be worn on your wrist making it easier for access to your nano.
The only negative is that the touch wheel does not work very well through the protective clear plastic but while running or walking, you only need access to push the center button for updates.
Great Product!

This is a bad product........2007-10-08
I have two main problems with this product. First, the pouch completely covers up the screen so that you can't see what's on your iPod's display. This effectively turns the device into an iPod Shuffle. This may or may not be a big deal for you since many runners are focusing on the run too much to fiddle with music anyway.
The second (and biggest) complaint that I have is that the velcro strap is really hard to fasten. Usually on things like this, the armband will have a metal piece where you run one flap through the other side, then pull it tight and velcro. This version just has the velcro pieces on either side. Unless you arm is teeny-tiny, it's really hard to fasten this armband because you can't pull the two sides together easily.
I'm sure that Nike will eventually fix the problems with this, but until then I would pass on this disappointing product.
Great product.......2007-09-07
I highly recommend this product because it's extremely easy to use. I use a small MP3 player instead of an Ipod Nano, and it works without any problems. It's very easy to clean, and it doesn't have any hard plastic parts to dig in your skin and cause irritation.
One lady I spoke with said she paid 3X more for the same product, thank you Amazon!! I will shop again.
Where's the hole?.......2007-08-26
I love Nike+ items but this one has a bit of a problem (or maybe I do). Once it is on your arm it is quite complicated to find the bottom hole that allows to connect your headphones if you're trying to get them from inside your t-shirt and under the armband. The extra material at the end and the Nike+Ipod adapter makes it complicated to connect them without the help of a mirror.
Not water or sweat resistant.......2007-08-17
I tend to sweat a lot and the armband did little to protect my sensor/ipod which shorted out after 984 miles. Purchased new water resistant case from H2O Audio for just 10 dollars more and it keeps everything dry. Granted I average around 9 miles per run but for 29 bucks I expected something a little more durable that would actually protect my nano. Instead I'm now on my second i pod , if you sweat a lot spend the extra 10 bucks and get a real water resistant case. Incidentally Nike just sent me a 2nd gen armband(with the widow) for 1000 miles and it seems to be made from the exact same material as the first one.
Not made for Ipod Nano, look elsewhere.......2007-07-29
I bought this for my Ipod Nano, this is not made for the Nano.
Yes the Nano fits in the item, but the screen is not visible at all.
The thick foam also makes the controls difficult.
This was probably designed for the Shuffle and just repackaged when the Nano cought on.
I had a much better Nike armband that had a cover that let you see the screen and access the controls(dog ate it).
This armband is cheap, but not worth it at all.
I am buying a better one very soon.

Nike+ Armband.......2007-10-17
I like it. It has extra space for the sensor that plugs into the bottom of your iPod Nano. If you arn't going to use the Nike+ Running sensor kit, $30 would be a bit expensive if all you are going to do is walk or run with it and not track your workouts. If you have skinny arms, it tends to not fasten small enough and the earphone plug comes out of the bottom of the arm, so while you are running, it gets caught and pulls the ear buds out, so I have to re-route the earphone cording to come out of the top. I think if Nike modified the design just a bit, it would be fabulous!
Nike arm band.......2007-09-19
Great product, but would be alot better if arm band was a closed loop. The open straps are not as convenyent to place as the straps that slip over hand, up arm, and then tighten with velcro.
No problems here!.......2007-08-24
The Apple Nike+ Armband fits around my arm perfectly. It is nice and snug and doesn't move when I am running. The iPod fits in the case nice and snug as well so it doesn't move either. The buttons marked on the case match up perfectly with the buttons on the iPod. It's a nice feature that the center button pops out, making it easy to find. The design on the armband is nice and I would definitely recommend this armband to the avid runner.
Seriously, this could be a lot better.......2007-06-11
Why would Apple and Nike make an armband where you cannot see the screen? I wonder if that's intentional, however I think that the Nike+ software has an on-screen display while you are running. Also, if I need to re-calibrate or change any settings, I have to take the iPod out of the pouch and try to jam it back in the sweaty armband.
Also, the sensor is inaccurate with my Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS watch. I will try to re-calibrate.
Window a big improvement; Nike+ adapter still doesn't fit great.......2007-05-31
I can't believe how hard it is to find an armband for the ipod nano that accommodates the Nike+ adaptor!! This is one of only three ipod nano armbands I've been able to find that works with the Nike+ system. (the others are from Active Sport and Sportsuit Relay by Marware, which I think is the best one). Most armbands don't allow use of the Nike+ system.
Nike has done a good job with improving this armband, but it is still difficult to get the iPod with the adaptor all the way into the pouch, and then you have to take out the ipod each time you want to download your run. (This is one reason why the Marware product is better). I'm considering cutting a slit in the bottom so that I can leave the ipod in the sleeve and just take out the adaptor to download or plug in the ipod.
Otherwise, it's comfortable and fits well on my upper arm. I was given this armband as a gift so I guess I will try it out. We'll see how long it lasts!

Just What I Was Looking For.......2007-12-17
I originally picked up this armband because it was one of the few that was made to be used with the Nike+ Sport Kit. It does exactly what it's supposed to do: It protects the nano while staying on my arm comfortably and securely during workouts. Even without the Sport Kit connected to the nano, it works well and secures the device. I use the armband for jogs (5-12 miles), at the gym, shooting around, along with several other activities. It stayed securely to my arm while remaining out of the way. It seems to offer just the same, if not better, protection than the armbands costing 10 bucks more and it includes an extra flap to keep the headphone cord out of the way. Great product.

Good but small.......2007-12-02
Everything about this product seems to be really good. I have only used it once and that is because it is really small on my arm. I work out often and have decent size biceps, so when trying to wear this product it is really really tight. I would have liked to see it be more expandable, but I understand the difficultly of making true "one size fits all" So beware if you have bigger arms, but other wise it seems to work great!
It works great........2007-10-01
I have had no issues with this armband. It's not as easy to operate the iPod as it is without the armband on it but what would you expect?
Feels great, but is hard to change the volume.......2007-09-24
The Armband feels confortable, you just got close the velcro and then put it in yourself. I have found a little difficult to change the volume while jogging, sometime I change song, and once have stopped the workout trying to change it. Solution, I do not change the volume anymore while running.
Works wonders.......2007-08-27
I love this armband, I can see the screen through it and it stays on nicely. I usually tuck the cord under the band so it can go through my shirt without a problem. It's great because it doesn't slide down when running which I always have problems with, with any other arm band.

Fantastic!.......2007-12-26
Great for working out, chores, walking... whenever you don't want to carry your ipod in your hand or pocket.
It required a bit of strength to pull the arms off to change the neck size piece.
The instructions could be written a little clearer but with a few tries you should get it.
I wasn't able to keep my protective case on (Belkin, hard style case with clear cover over screen & touch wheel). It was either too lose or I couldn't get the strap to stretch far enough. One of those silicone sleeves *should* be okay as they are thinner.
This is really simple and great to use. Replaces my armband........2007-10-24
This product really works. Ever since I got it, I have been using it when I jog. Stay put and does fall off. Also, found I can use it around the house doing yard work. It really is hands free. Once I figured it out, changing music is a snap. With the different sizes included, my wife is also using it. It is definitely on my holiday gift list for my iPod family.
Hands OFF! This one is Mine........2007-10-11
I ordered 2 nekfits, a Black one for me and a clear for my wife. And sure enough, it works just as advertised from what I see as I have only worn mine once. I showed it to a friend that thought "this can't be comfortable or stay on for my style of working out." She cam to me the next day and said, "Wow, I'm keeping it, thanks!" My wife came back from a recent trip to visit friends without her's as well. Same story. I've order 2 more and this time they are staying on MY next. Buy your own!
The one cool thing that my friend, that stole my NekFIT, told me out about the strap, is that it has these raised lines that work as guides for your fingers to find the forward, back, and stop controls on the NekFIT. I thought they were just re-inforced areas. Turns out they have a reason. Pretty cool product.
Wish I had thought of this!!.......2007-10-09
This thing is amazing! I wore my nekFIT to the club and 6 people stopped me and asked where I got it.
An extremely clever design! So darn simple too. It really does disappear in minutes. No wires--just music!
I love my NekFIT!.......2007-10-06
I have the black one, I got it before the clear came out. I love it. Within 2 minutes of wearing it, you don't even notice it on your neck. It is so comfortable and light. I don't pick songs, I just forward to the next song when I get bored and that is super easy to do with the NekFIT. It is perfect for walking, biking, and my friend has even used it for yoga. It is also great for listening while working on the computer.
