Whether you place this Teac SR-L230i on your night table or on your desk, this fine radio delivers stereo sound from its integrated AM/FM stereo digitally-synthesized tuner. Good Specs but Too Many Flaws.......2007-08-08
I bought this at Costco on a whim for $[..]. It had impressive sound but looked kind of big to be used on a nightstand. Overall, it didn't live up to my expectations and I will be returning it. It just suffers from what looks to be a rushed and/or poor design.
PROS:
+Very good sound for it's size.
+Alarm can be set to iPod or radio.
+Nice remote that feels solid.
+All the iPod adapters you'd ever need included in the box.
CONS:
-Display is WAY to bright even on it's dim setting (there's only one dim setting). I leave it on dim in direct sunlight and I can still see it just fine. At night I can almost read by it. Come on manufacturers, make dim actually DIM!
-Alarm doesn't always come on. It works about 85% of the time, which isn't good enough. Sometimes it just doesn't come on. I've also had trouble getting the alarm button to work. Poor workmanship.
-Device has an AUX in port, but you can't set the alarm to it. Poor design.
-Alarm can be set to come on quietly and then get louder over several seconds to gently wake you up, but unfortunately the quietest setting you can set the alarm to is a volume setting of 10 which is very loud (at 25% of it's rated volume). The volume will go all the way to ZERO. Why make it so you can only set it as low as 10 to wake up to? 10 is loud enough to hear over a freight train!
-No snooze feature.
-Button to turn off alarm is hard to find.
-It takes FOREVER to set the alarm or the time due to having to slowly scroll through the time.
-Big blue circular light behind iPod dock that is irritating at night.
-It's pretty big. Too big for most night-stands.
-Manual is just wrong about some settings so you have to guess until you get them right.
Hey Amazon, how about listing the actual model number for this device instead of using some made up generic name like "Hi-fi Table Radio with iPod Dock"? It's model number is SR-LXi-B.
Sounds good but..........2007-07-19
1) you cannot see in the picture that amazon provides, but there is a circular bright blue light behind the ipod. Its pretty bright and annoying. Looks ugly too.
2) the FM Antenna is very weak. I could not pick up as many channels as i was able to pick up with my old desk alarm clock.
3) setting the time is VERY annoying. there are no separate buttons for hours, mins. you just hold the forward or backward button and let the minutes increment by one. It wouldn't be so much of a problem if the numbers went by quickly. They don't. its very slow.
4) the alarm is very confusing at first to set.
5) the build quality and quality control are questionable. When i opened my brand new unit, it had a scratch down the middle and the circular, blue led that is behind the ipod was not flush. One edge was really pushed in while the other was halfway popped out.
6) Sound quality with the ipod is actually pretty good.
7) i really loved the feel of the remote. Its a nice solid feeling remote, much nicer then the remote provided by the ihome units.
8) The clock first displayed as a 12 hour clock but later on decided to change to a 24 hour clock. i did not know how to set it back nor did the manual mention anything about this.
overall:
pros: sounds good, nice remote
cons: questionable build and quality control, bad FM reception, very annoying setup of time, confusing alarm setup, annoying bright lights, switched automatically to 24hour clock from 12 hour clock.
conclusion: i returned it and would not buy again.

Purchased unit for Christmas LED is now unreadable. Called TEAC impossible to get a human on the phone. Sytem hangs up on you when all lines are busy. Called the recomended service centers. Both no longer service the product. Do not waste your money on this product.

I loved the product when I got it. But barely 7 weeks after I received it, it simply stopped working -- no apparent cause. It just died. Teac warranty only covers repair, so now I have to go through the hassle of locating an authorized service center and schlepping it over there. This was my first purchase of a Teac product, and it will certainly be my last.
UPDATED REVIEW 8/30/07: The first "service center" I took it to wouldn't even take it, for whatever reason. The second one fixed it, and three weeks later, it's dead again. This is a true lemon. I've contacted Teac twice and they simply couldn't care less. Don't buy this!!!

TEAC SR-L200i Radio with iPod dock.......2007-03-01
I initially had a problem even identifying the product I wanted. Although there was a better description with manufacturer name and model number for this product in white, if someone wants a different color there are no other colors listed, and the description for the radio in black doesn't list manufacturer or model number.
The photo and description suggest that it is the same product in a different color, but you never know, and that's a concern when you buy something sight unseen.
The radio itself has some less than friendly user features. Although TEAC certainly isn't alone in this respect, I am not fond of devices that are designed with parts of the user interface that are only available via a remote control.
For this radio if you want to program or select preset radio stations you can only access these presets via the remote control. It would not have required much of a change in the controls on the radio to allow control of all radio functions from the radio itself. That way if the remote control is lost or stops functioning the user would still be able to select full functionality of the radio features. The TEAC user interface design team should rethink their approach for products like this.
The iPod adaptors supplied by TEAC did not fit the iPod - in this case an iPod Nano - but Apple supplied an adaptor with the iPod and it fit correctly, but was a different color from the radio.
These may be insignificant issues to some buyers, but if these product features were included in the product description I would not have wanted or purchased this product. That's too bad because the audio quality of the radio is fairly good.

pretty nice for the price, but a few drawbacks.......2007-12-06
This is a nice IPOD-docking radio, with clock & alarm. It receives AM & FM signals well, and works great with the IPOD. Remote is small but useful. The sound is warm, with a bit of emphasis on the bass, which is nice. Size is a bit big, but not overly so. Controls pretty easy to use. Has "sleep" feature (90/60/30 min).
However, there are a few drawbacks:
1) though the display has a "dim" option, even then it is bright -- if you like a nightlite in the bedroom, it might not bother you, but if you like it dark, you'll end up laying something over the display, which means the remote won't work and you cannot see the clock
2) no battery backup -- if the power goes out, you get to reset the clock & alarm (dumb!)
best sound quality for the $$.......2007-02-08
I recently bought this item after returning the horrible "ilive" boombox. I gaurantee you won't find better sound quality at this price range....very full, rich sound. I wonder if the reviewer below me "wiggans" who said "good but not great" even has this unit....He says he experimented with the sound settings....there are no sound settings to experiment with....no equalization at all.....it doesn't need it. If you're looking to spend about $100 on an ipod docking radio, trust me.....you won't find better than this.

A nice unit-- big and burly, with a fairly sizeable(though a little base heavy) sound. the light readout is bright and big on the unit (even when dimmed), and you don't get some of the advantages you would get on a unit that was more of an alarm clock (e.g., a second alarm, a battery back up), but the sound quality, to me, makes the Teac well worth it. it also fits my generation 4 ipod without an adapater, and that's a plus (it comes with a thousand adapters!). the only complaint i have so far is that the unit is apparently from mexico, and i can't find any information on how to register it for the warranty. I'm in touch with Teac through their website, but it's slow-going.
One of the best-sounding iPod clock radios.......2007-01-14
Unlike many of the iPod-dockable clock radios made by unknown manufacturers, this one from Teac includes some surprisingly high quality speakers & downward-firing tuned ports that pump out a smooth sound with crystal clear treble and a reasonable quantity of bass for the size and the price. It has a very easy-to-listen-to sound that many other clock radios miss. Due to it being larger in size than most of the competition, it also produces reasonable volumes that would suit most size rooms. The larger size of course has some drawbacks as it won't fit comfortably on most bedside tables -- it really is a "table" radio. It is a nice-looking unit and can store 10 FM and 10 AM presets (unlike the iHome iH5 on both counts). What would make it even better? Slightly smaller size (perhaps a "bedside" version?) and a USB port to synchronize with iTunes. Other than that, Teac have done their homework on this one and it shows. I would highly recommend you audition this radio.

I bought this clock radio based on teac's good reputation.
After tryin a few other manufacturers I was glad I tried this.
It has very good sound for a clock radio. It is not a bose but
it only cost $100.00. The features are good and the radio works
like it is suppose to. No problems. Would definitley reccomend this.

Can't afford Bose dock - try this..........2007-06-28
I purchased this unit after a salesperson recommended it. I listened to the Bose Dock, then I listened to this one. I like the sound of this unit better (it seems to have a more dynamic range of sound). It also has a radio and an alarm clock. The Bose dock is just a speaker. I have also given this unit to my family members as a gift, twice. They both love the unit too.

I bought one of these to play my iPod nano. It works with my husband's earlier iPod, but not my son's earlier shuffle.
For the footprint and price, the sound cannot be beat. It works great and charges the iPod while it's playing. I like it so much I'm buying a second one for the kitchen.

I've owned this for about 2 months and have been very pleased with this system. I listen to it in my office and the sound quality is excellent. The FM tuner does a good job in my building, allowing me to get several local stations in. I note this because my previous radio couldn't pull in any in my building. I also should note that I use the Belkin acrylic case for my video iPod, and if I leave all the adapters off, the iPod fits without having to take it out of the case. All in all, a great system. I'm very happy with it, and I'd buy it again.
Nice, Economical iPod Player.......2007-02-15
This is a good iPod player/radio for the money. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on Bose or similar products since I already have a stereo system. This unit sits in my study where I like to listen to music or the radio when I work. It fits the bill fine for that purpose. The speaker sound is full and strong for a small unit. It plays music well, but I am disappointed a little in the radio. It doesn't pull in stations well without the antenna, and there is interference even with it. To use the presets, you have to use the remote control. If you listen mostly to the radio, then I wouldn't buy this unit. If you plan to listen mostly to your iPod or play other devices thru the aux input, it's great.
