Depends where you live..........2007-11-30
Periodically, I fool myself into trying yet another iPod FM solution for my car. This unit is very well made and easy to tune, but because the airways in Boston are so crowded it turns out to be just as useless as its predecessors. This is not the manufacturers fault, of course, but Boston dwellers shouldn't waste their money (if you do buy one, the weakest external FM signal is 99.9 - good luck.)
Horrible Product Don't Buy.......2007-11-20
I have used two of these transmitters and both have broken. One just fell out of the power socket one day while I was driving and fell to the floor broken. The other one broke when I pulled it out of the power outlet and it left a piece in my power outlet that I can not get out. It got horrible quality and was always cutting in and out of my songs. Do not buy!! It's a terrible product!
What you would expect........2007-11-14
I though it worked as well as it should, because the audio quality was average. I do not know how any other similar products compare, so not being able to offer another alternative I would say this is a safe buy. The functionality is great and does what it's supposed to do.
Just OK.......2007-11-08
The product works OK but not great.
You will be able to listen to your Ipod on the FM Radio but the quality is not that great.
Also the charger is not very good since I can play the Ipod in the car but the battery will die right away when I take it out of the car.
Disappointing for what I expected
Efficient and Easy to Install.......2007-10-10
If you're not expecting audio perfection, this is an efficient product for listening to your ipod in your car. Where I live, in the Seattle suburbs, it sounds like a very clear radio station. I didn't have to read anything to plug it in which was nice. I would recommend this product highly.

Keep It Simple.......2007-07-05
I bought a transmitter for my IPod mini about two years ago. It had four stations and was very simple and easy to use and it worked great!! It seems that simple is no longer an option and I bought this Tunebase FM Transmitter for a friend's IPod Nano and it has a bunch of options for stations and puts your ipod up high and seems very luxurious.. But it stinks!! i can never find a station without static and its a pain to have look through 100 stations. I am returning the product and will look for something better
Nice design but a little dissapointed with the power.......2007-06-14
This item allows you to transmit to your radio while you're charging your iPod battery. It's user-friendly and the flexible goose neck makes it easy to adjust and see what's going on even while driving (add note of caution here).
I'm in Los Angeles where there's more stations than available bandwidth. This makes it hard to find a clear frequency slot. I previously used a Griffin iTrip and was able to use it on three or four station frequencies. I could only find one spot on the radio dial where the Tunebase would work semi-reliably. It's just not quite powerful enough to cut through the background noise in this over-crowded radio market. Users in smaller radio markets will likely have few if any problems.
Nice Product.......2007-05-25
Best FM transmitter I have used so far with my Ipod sound quality is much better than other brands I have used. Its well worth the steep price tag
works well.......2007-03-23
This generally works well but does have some static but usually resolves quickly.
Works great!.......2007-03-22
This thing works just fine. I have some occasional problems where I have to change the station, but apparently that is a problem with all ipod transmitters (except for the tape adapter, but I dont have a tape player). other wise this is way cheaper than anything you can find in a store, especially an apple store. If you want to play your ipod in your car, and save a couple bucks, you cant beat this!

Connector not matching.......2007-05-25
I can't review a product I can't use however... its connector just doesn't match the new Nanos (mine is the 8gb), hence its marketing is misleading. And I am stuck with it.
Good product, with some quirks - Pay attention to 2G vs. 2GB!!!.......2007-04-19
This works well for me - my main problem is an occasional squeal in stop and go traffic and the buttons seem exceptionally unresponsive.
The main reason I'm writing this is to address some of the comments I've seen. There is a lot of confusion about 2G and 2GB, I think. This product is NOT compatible with 2G iPod nanos - that means 2nd Generation, not gigs. It IS compatible with 2GB (that IS gigs) 1st generation iPod nanos. That's what I have, and it works well for me. Be careful what you're reading, people seem to be easily confused (I was at first, too, when I was researching my purchase).
Not for new nanos.......2007-03-28
I bought this for my girl friend this Christmas and it does not even fit her Ipod. I think these are made for older versions of the nano
Love the look but can't get it to work.......2007-03-15
I tried by darndest best to get it to work but the static was way too much! I ended up returning it.
Good news! New model available for 2nd gen nanos.......2007-02-27
After extensive searching I found Belkin is now making a TuneBase for the new 2nd generation nanos. The model number is F8Z136-BLK. Several Belkin products claim they can be used with nanos but that doesn't include 2nd gen nanos. Make sure you get the right one.
Check the Belkin site for more information.
I don't have mine yet but I have read multiple reviews and the other iterations of this product get good reviews. It appears that Belkin responds very well to consumer input on improving this product.

Customer Reviews:
excellent product bought it for an ipod 4th generation 20 gig.......2007-08-16
i just tried it today it works really nice. i actually use it for my regular ipod 4th generation 20 gig. if u do want it for that you are going to have to get the plastic covering off though. i did that by taking a sodering iron and melting the whole pretty much top off and it took awhile and i burnt my leg but it was all worth it cuz i got it for like 9 dollars too which is so much better then 50 dollars at target. woot!
Not Such a Great Product.......2007-08-11
I bought this with the soul purpose of charging my ipod in the car - the fm transmission has lots of white noise - when using a cassette adapter via the headphone jack, eq settings are over-ridden as well as volume setting. Eventually the socket came undone and launched the fuse into the car making it unusable till I found another fuse. I now have an adapter from crutchfield that plugs directly into my cd changer controller and works (clean sound) much better as well as keeping the ipod charged.
Not the product that's advertised.......2007-05-19
This product states that it is compatible, via trays, for an iPod nano as well. When I received it, this is also printed on the box several places. However, upon trying to fit my nano in the tray I found that there is no way it will fit...anyone who has a nano knows that the plug on the bottom is offset slightly. So, a mini ipod would fit perfectly as it's plug is centered. The 2 pieces were about 1/16 of an inch off and there is absolutely no way it would fit...4 of us tried!!! This was a big disappointment. I ended up going to a local RadioShack and buying the correct one. I was very disappointed in Belkin for this product as they usually put out very good items!!!
Not for 30 gig ipod!!.......2007-03-20
I have no idea how well the TuneBase actually works because it is not compatible with 5th generation ipods like the product description claims it is. DO NOT buy this if you have a 30 gig 5th generation ipod!! The ipod will not fit in the tray!!!
not for 2gen nano!!.......2007-02-11
i have a friend w/ a 1gen nano and it would fit in the cradle, but my 2gen didn't come close to fitting as advertised.

Bad choice.......2007-11-28
All seemed to go well until I tried to find a clear FM station. I spent the entire time I used it, a one hour trip, trying to find a clear station. I finally gave up and turned on the radio. I have since returned it for a refund. I live in a somewhat rural area. Maybe it would work better in a city.
Claims to work with all Ipods, but it's not so..........2007-01-23
Was supposed to work with all Ipods, but would not work with my older Ipod. Resulted in wasted time and money - dealing with Belkin, getting new one shipped, shipping both back. Dont buy for your older ipod. Looks like a nice product for a new ipod though..... I ended up with a transpod that works, but not as nice as the Tunebase.

Customer Reviews:
Good FM Transmitter.......2007-12-26
I live just outside DC and found this FM transmitter to be pretty good. The Clearscan feature is pretty useless, often tuning to stations with a signal, so manually tuning is the way to go.
A couple times I've noticed some occasional signal damping which cause the sound quality to diminish then get better after a while. I can't really come up with a good explanation as to what would cause this, but its not very noticeable so I ignore it.
The arm off the cigarette lighter is fairly stiff, which is great for keeping the unit and ipod in place, but makes twisting and adjusting a bit difficult. Not a big deal as long as you have enough room around your lighter.
The unit comes with different pieces of plastic and foam to hold and support different types of ipods and is pretty easy to install/change.
The Belkin is pricey, but does a good job and I'm happy with it.
Great... So far .......2007-12-24
0k the -"TUNEBASE II"- Is great product you may get it, to be honest I`ll give a 4-1/2 stars but since they don`t have that option, 5 it`s fair,I bought a year ago the "Tunebase I" and it sucked big time, then I got the "Monster Icar wireless plus" wich is great no complain about it when it comes to sound quality, Problem comes when you have to buy a car base and that ruins the look... but the -"Belkin Tunebase FM with ClearScan"- looks Great, you may say it looks fancy... and with great sound quality that could match the monster quality and sound, but you have to learn how to take advantage of any feature, if you do the sound quality could be the best in the business.
Go buy it.
Works Well and Best Yet.......2007-12-24
I recently purchased this unit as a set with a wall charger at Costco for $[...]. I have used three other units from Belkin TuneCast, Kensington 33169 Digital FM Radio and Transmitter for iPods, and XtremeMac AirPlay. The Airplay was for the original remote connector and worked good on my iPod Photo until my daughter broke it on a road trip. I bought the Kensington at a special price and it was not as powerful and therefore did not work as well. The Belkin TuneCast was a joke, but was universal since it used a 1/8" male connector.
The Belkin Tunebase is in a whole new category by itself. It is not because of the built in dock for charging or the extension arm to see the display or the 1/8" jack to use the Aux port on new stereos or the ClearScan FM selection process, but the Pro 2 power level for the FM transmitter. The Tunebase has three different power levels and this is what allows the unit to over power even co-located stations or distance weak ones that other transmitters can't. The ClearScan is the second best feature because it does do a good job of finding empty stations. The Belkin Tunebase is not perfect, especially in big cities like LA, but it does work well and is easy to use. Just hold down the button below the display and it will display in a second a new frequency that you tune your car stereo to. It does have two station memory for your favorite stations that work.
The only reason I did not give it a full five stars is because the memory and power level buttons are on the sides are not labeled from the front and I accidently push the wrong button sometimes and the price is a little high. I am real pleased with the unit and would recommend it to others if you use a unit like this a lot to justify the price. Since my package at Costco came with a wall charger and sync cable as well as a mini USB charge cord, I thought the $69 was a reasonable price. If the price is over $[...] for just the transmitter, that might be too high for even a quality product like this.
Does what it's meant to do very well.......2007-12-17
While ClearScan did not the absolute best channels for me to use, the product worked just fine. I was able to quickly find 3 or 4 channels that work very well and get no static through them. The audio quality is very good with rare static sounds cming through. Using the Pro1 and Pro2 sound settings really are the most helpful features...they can make the audio quality even better and more helpful than the QuickScan.
Good, but, not great........2007-11-05
I got this last night (Monday November 4th, 2007 @ 2:00AM)
1st.
I took it out of the box, found the right adapter that best fit my iPod
(Cassic 160GB)and installed it. Well there are two parts. One is the Cradle, which holds it on the sides and the Pad, which goes in the back of the unite that keeps it from moving forward. With both of these in place I have a good tight fit for my iPod.
2nd.
The "ClearScan" feature does not work all that well. Every time I used it the unite kept finding a station that was occupied or sort of had a station using it. So I did it manually. I found a nice clear station 104.3
3rd.
I and noticed that there are two buttons a 1 and 2 button that lets you preset stations that you've found to be clean and clear and store these in memory for later use. I would like to use them, but every time I pressed the 1 button, it went to 107.3 which has a station in it already. The 2 button also has the same station as its preset. I can not get it to reprogram and thus, this feature is useless.
4th.
The unit does a good job at charging your iPod.
5th.
There is a feature called "Pro" and it boost up the sound and I think the transmission signal of the unit. There is "normal" that gives you a good but not great signal. I tried Pro 1 and its not much better than Normal.
I've found that Pro2 and Pro work best. With Pro it sounded as good as if I had been at home listing to my iPod through my stereo.
(note: on the unit their is a button that says "Pro" and on the display it reads as Normal, Pro1, Pro2 and Pro with a .o0(Thought Bubble)0o. out beside it.)
6th.
I like the arm that the unite rests on, stiff but very flexible. The cigarette lighter plug makes for a good anchor and good placement in my car.
So in closing, it's good but not great. I like it, but its got a few buggs that I'm going to have to call the company over.
(more on that later.)
I just got off the Phone with Belkin, (Tech Support in the U.S. 1-800-223-5546 ext. 2263)
The lady I talked with was VERY helpful.
(1)The way you set the presets is to, Find a good empty station.
(2)Pick between button 1 or 2, then press down on the 1 or 2 button until you hear a plink sound(about 5 seconds).
(3)You will see that station has "Preset1 or Preset2" over the station numbers on the display.
I looked all through manual and it never did say anything about how to reset the 1 or 2 button to another station. This is something they really needed to put in.
After having this 14 days (Tuesday November 18th 2007 9:16 p.m.) Here are a few observations.
1.
When I place my iPod into the cradle and line it up with the data/power port; the unit will turn off the sound on my iPod and let a preset volume level come into your deck, thus you'll be able to control the sound level from your deck with no tweaking needed.
2.
When driving I found the unit to pick up on interference from my car's motor. Here's the good news, it's not so bad that you can't enjoy your favorite Podcast or music.
3.
When you're not moving there's no sound problem.
But if the station you've picked out is too close to another station then you will really know it.
Case-in-point 101.1 is used but 101.3 aren't.
So you pick 101.3, but here come 101.5 bleeding over into your 101.3. I've found that if you can, pick a frequency that has at least two clear stations out either side of it.
Like so, 103.1 clear & (your station)103.3 & on the other side 103.5 also clear.
I don't know if this will work for you, but for me it works well enough.

awesome product.......2007-03-04
We live in the Denver area, and have not had a problem with static. This product tuned in with ease once mounted in the vehicle. Located a weak FM station, and then tuned the ipod into the same station and you are done. We drove around our city and tested it, and it sounded like a cd player but with the flexible video ipod we could listen to a variety of music or video. I was surprised how well it functioned and sounded. Our vehicle is 10 years old and has the original radio/cassette player in it.
TuneBase FM hits sour note.......2006-11-10
The good news: product us attractive, fits nicely into the aux power outlet, holds the iPod Nano out of the way but accessible. But I expect it to do that and still provice a pleasant listening experience. Didn't happen. There was no way to reduce the static (perhaps only in our part of the country?) to an acceptable level. We checked with Apple, and as they instructed we made sure the sound was at less than 50% on the Nano. Same problem. At times, it would seem to get better but couldn't hold down the static for long. Tried numerous resets and new stations with the same result. It's a great idea that, for us, didn't pan out. We stopped using it when my wife informed me that "I've had enough of that NOISE."
