I have found this product very dissappointing! BUT... Because I am a tecky of sorts I am not sure that it may/not be an issue of compatibility with my existing telephone headset. My current headset is not plantronics and I am yet unclear whether that factors in. However the amplifier will cut off quickly if there is no sound transmitting through the mic/mouthpiece. and render the headset mic muted. As in a long winded conversation where you are listening to your caller. I have found this very disturbing. I have to watch to see if the light goes off on the amp. because I know the mic has muted and I must
disconnect/separate the amp from the headset in order to clear my mic.
What you can do is put me in contact with the technical division of the Manufacturer of this product. I have some hearing challenge and I am in need of a product such as this. Also note I have found the headset amplifiers on other headsets limited in their ability to make the sound loud enough for me. I purchased this product with both excitement and anticipation. The high points:
* Small
* Has a clip on it (I clip it onto the handset)
* Battery life seems great (haven't changed it yet)
The low, low, low point:
* Cuts out when there is a lull in the converation, during hold music, etc. This problem is a real drag.

Great item. I am hearing impaired and this unit works magic. It's lightweight and very convenient to use. I have not noticed a problem with the power down feature. In practical use, it has been fine...but maybe I talk a lot to magpies.
The clarity and volume are just essential to me. I'm used to hearing aid batteries and the potential failure of these is not a problem for me. Best thing I ever bought to aid in a phone conversation.

I'm a guy on the phone all day and I purchased this because in the summers there is a cooling unit running that is so loud I can't quite hear phone conversations. This unit very nicely fixes this problem. I've been using it for two weeks and to my suprise I am still on the first set of batteries. They batteries are very low-cost. It costs me $1.50 to battery-up this amplifier.
I'd recomend it - it's lightweight and completely solves my problem.
Loud but irritating.......2007-09-01
It does a great job of amplifying two-way conversations. The problem is that it has no "off" switch--it turns itself off when it doesn't detect sound. So, if you're having a conversation with someone who is a soft speaker (the main reason I bought the thing!) it turns off--and then you hear even less than without it. So I find myself clearing my throat a lot, just to keep it turned on. It's especially disconcerting when on hold--you can't tell if you're still connected.
