XLINK BLUETOOTH® CELLULAR GATEWAY CABLE
Customer Reviews:
Not Bad, But Words Of Caution .......2007-11-09
For anybody considering buying this device and removing their land line, consider these points:
1. Call quality will be no better than a cell phone, and often times worse. And because of the bluetooth connection, latency increases further. Talking to someone on a cell phone with this device can mean a second (or more) lag.
2. This device did not work properly for me out of the box. I had to flash the software to get it to function at all.
3. Your cell phone has to be right next to the device for adequate reception. Forget about the 30' advertised range, as you will get increasing static starting at about 5'.
4. If you have a home answering machine, it won't work with this device/technology.
5. The salty cost for this device will become apparent when you open the box.
Bottom line, this is a low quality solution to a land line. I would choose VOIP over this technology (if that is an option) if you want to save money by getting rid of the land line.
Works as advertised..........2007-10-27
Works as advertised. I have bonded the unit with three different bluetooth phones and it has worked consistently with all three. The firmware is upgradeable and simple to do with Xlink's software. At this time I would recommend this device to anyone interested in enjoying the comfort and sound quality of their corded or cordless phone using a cellular connection.
Surprise! It works fairly well........2007-10-19
I've had an Xlink in service for a couple of months now. The operation was vastly improved after I downloaded the latest software, which was a piece 'O cake. It isn't totally "seamless" at all times, but for what it does it's a miracle! Go for it! It has proven to be sound technology. (No pun intended) The only 'down' side is 'ya can't do Faxing. House phones work a-ok! All advertised functions operational, even voice commands to my cell phone from any house phone.Stuff it, Sunrocket! I no longer need a "landline".
Great Unit.......2007-10-06
The x-link is a great piece of technology. Easy to set up easy to use. Perfect for those people who want to cancel their landlind and use a cell, but still want to be able to use their landline handsets. The ability to have your cell ring on multiple home phones is great and extremely useful. The sound quality is really good, but a bit hollow sounding at times, so not perfect. I have AT&T wireless so the sound quality on my cell is not great to start with (I use to have Verizon Wireless which, honestly, seems to be clearer, but is seriously lacking in some other areas). The ability to hook up to multiple cell phones is really useful. The biggest downside is if you want to keep a landline and use the x-link for your cell. Then you have to double up on handsets, one group for the home phone and one for the cell. We priced out getting two line phones so we could use one handset for both cell and home line, but the cost of two line cordless phones is so prohibitive that it is not a cost effective solution. All in all the x-link product is a great idea, but needs to be able to incorporate into an existing landline system a little better for those of us that need to keep a landline and don't want to have two handsets in every room.
works great.......2007-10-04
everything said about this product is accurate. only thing I'm troubled with is a background noise. this might be fixed when I move unit and phone to another area. Even with this distraction, I wouldnt hesitate to buy it.

Super wifi card.......2007-07-19
Well, I was a little skeptical about this card, price, size and performance wise. I am really happy I went ahead and took a chance on it. It installs with the use of a disc in your laptop/pc and I was surprised that with my Pocket PC (Dell Axim 51) docked, the drivers and all loaded directly into the PPC. After the drivers were loaded, I placed the card into the slot and boom, I was wifi. This thing is a wonder with the ease of use and even though I am not a pro by any stretch of the imagination, I got this thing up and running in just a couple of minutes. I highly recommend this card.
Excellant Product.......2007-05-14
Worked great with my Treo 700w and Treo 700 wx and my Ipaq 5550. The wireless G was incredibly fast around the house. Definitely better than the other Wifi B cards. Definitely worth it if you have Wifi access

not for vista.......2007-05-13
Though the adapter is pretty good with windows xp, it is not for vista. I suggest ZyxelG-220 v 2.2 for those who are using windows vista. v2.2 works pretty good with vista. If you are a vista user don't think to buy the G-220, because i tried all the ways with many softwares to connect to vista. It is simply waste of time.

D-Link DVC-1100 Video Phone Review.......2007-01-10
My wife and I wanted to get a video phone that would enable us to talk with our DEAF daughter and son-in-law using sign language. They have a Sorenson video phone and we had experience with that. The D-Link DVC-1100 uses Sorenson video compression technology so we knew how it could work.
Many of the reviews I read almost dissuaded me from buying the wireless VP. However, I really wanted the flexibility of wireless if possible. The DVC-1100 comes with an Ethernet port so you can connect it with cable if you cannot get the wireless connection to work.
Based on several user reviews, I expected the setup to be difficult. However, setup was a snap. I attached the antennae and cables, plugged in the power, and used the setup wizard to get connected to my wireless network. Everything was ready to go in about 15 minutes. Our first call to our daughter and family went through without a problem and we were able to talk with them for over 45 minutes with no problems or disconnects.
This is not a high definition device but the resolution and picture size is a great improvement over web cam communication we've done in the past. We could see the entire family (2 adults, 3 kids) in the picture and still read and understand their signing.
The audio quality was surprisingly good. We could hear and understand our grandchildren and they could hear us. They are not DEAF like their parents so the audio was very important for them.
Our network and video setup:
Broadband provider: Comcast
Router: Belkin 8.11b/g Wireless with a firewall
Television: Standard 27 inch TV (Picture would probably be better on a smaller screen.)
Overall, we are pleased with the video phone so far and anticipate purchasing one for each of our other children so they can communicate with their older sister's family.
Poor framerate, tricky setup.......2006-07-14
(I'm cross posting this to both DVC-1000 and DVC-1100 product description pages.)
I really wanted to like this gadget, but I've ultimately been disappointed. The idea is COOL, being able to see your family and carry on a FREE Internet phone conversation with them, and the price is much less than other videophone solutions out there. Alas, there are a few problems still to be worked out with this device.
Here's the saga of trying to just get the device to work with my network setup. I tried calling Dlink (the i2eye manufacturer), Linksys (for my router setup), Comcast (broadband connection) and SunRocket (VOIP) for support on this issue. I eventually got the device to work connecting to my parents' wireless version of the i2eye (which I setup through a USR wireless broadband router by opening the required ports) by connecting my i2eye (the wired ethernet version) directly to my cable modem (without my Linksys broadband router or SunRocket VOIP box in the equation). I then tested various configurations until I was able to determine that the Linksys router (model WRTGS) was not forwarding ports correctly (I HAD properly configured port forwarding). Linksys tech support tried but failed to help me out. I swapped routers with my girlfriend who had a Dlink router and the problem went away (after also configuring port forwarding). Would have been nice if Dlink could have told me when I called them for support that my router wasn't compatible with their device (though it's possible that my Linksys router has a "broken" port forwarding feature). I also had to forward ports through my VOIP box which the SunRocket tech support people quickly told me how to do. So I eventually got the damn thing working after a month and a half of trying. Of course that is two weeks after the standard return policy of ANTonline expires (who I bought the device from through Amazon).
Now to performance. Even when the i2eye is connected directly to my broadband cable modem my framerate never rises above 5 frames per second. That's both for the transmitted and received data stream. (On my parents' end I have to connect wirelessly through their wireless router as their TV is too far from their cable modem.) I've tried tweaking the "speed" settings on the i2eye to adjust the amount of data the device is configured to send and receive, but I never got an improvement. Dlink advertises that you can get up to 30 frames per second using a high quality broadband connection (like mine and my parents'). I haven't tested my broadband connection's total upload and download speed because I simply don't know how (probably need some third party utility program). Regardless I SHOULD be getting at least 500kbps upload speed and at least 1Mbps download speed (at both mine and my parent's end) as that is typical of cable broadband connections. Also the image quality from the i2eye's "lens" and CCD is horrendous. The brightness, contrast and general overall "sharpness" of the image is lousy. That's simply not acceptable. You can get better framerates (along with much better image quality) from a good webcam using one of the "messenger" applications out there. Which is what I'm going to explore doing next.
I'm going to attempt to return the devices now (both mine and my parents' i2eye) through ANTonline and Amazon with the argument that the i2eye devices don't perform as advertised and that I'm "late" returning them because of the difficulty in testing the devices (you have to coordinate with the people at the other end of the connection to determine if your own configuration is working). I'll try to post an update to this review with the results of that attempt.
(Update: I was able to return the unit I bought from Amazon with few questions asked. I was NOT able to return the unit bought from ANTOnline and wound up selling it on EBay for half the price I paid for it. Lesson: if you have doubts but still want to try it, buy through Amazon.)
Unless they can improve framerate throughput through some kind of data compression technology upgrade, I can't recommend this device to anyone. Less critical improvements would be a better quality camera (and microphone) onboard and better support for setting up the devices (a dedicated i2eye server you can connect to test your i2eye configuration settings) including a list of supported and non-supported routers.
Hope this helps someone else avoid the headaches and hassles I've been subjected to by this device.
Andrew
Poor resolution, not reliable, and poor customer service.......2006-01-10
I was disappointed with the image resolution once I get over the hurdle of setting it up. Even worse is when the image capture component stopped working in less than 1 year. When I finally mananaged to get around to figure out what was really failing (why no video), it's past the 1 year warranty, and when contacting D-Link Customer Service/Support, I was told that my only option is to buy another (no repair possible). You think? I vow to NOT waste my time and money again with any D-Link product given such a rip-off experience.
Just OK.......2005-10-04
I brought this device because I needed to communicate with my school. I am working on an advanced degree and often I'm not in the area when classes are in session. I was told to buy a H323 (if you don't know what that is don't worry) compatible device so that could communicate with the rest of the university. I shopped around and this was by far the cheapest. I brought this device and when I went to set it up the next month, the IT department when crazy. They wouldn't let me use this device because of all of the problems that they had with Dlink products in the past - this one in particular. I ended up buying a ViaVideo II by Polycom and gave this one to my parents.
Let me start by saying that even though they show how simple this is to configure, if you do not know how to open up ports in your firewall/router you should not by this product. Furthermore, must people have dynamic IP address so that when you call someone, it will not be the same number every time. If you do not know how to find your IP address this is not a product for you. I use a dynamic forwarding website and place the camera in the DMZ so that there are no firewall issues. I also turn of the camera when not in use, but there are no configurable items without the remote control so there is no hacking issue. If you don't understand this paragraph then this not a product for you. It is possible for someone to set this up for you, router, ports, dynamic DNS, and all and then you will just need to know the IP address of the person that you are calling.
The video on this device is much better then a web cam, but I was very disappointed by the resolution. It is nice not to have to be tied to your computer to make a video call. You can use the wireless version of the product or using a wireless bridge and buy the cheaper version without wireless and the video will be about the same.
All together, it is nice to use the product without have to use the computer, but for a much better picture, the Via Video II beats this product hands down.
Caveat emptor.......2005-09-09
Having spent hundreds of dollars now on trying to make this gadget work--and the jury is still out--all I can say is, you are on YOUR OWN for installing and using this piece of equipment. The customer service kids read the manual to me over the phone, the manual I was holding in my own hand. The sales people gave me no information whatever about what is required to make this product work, that is, until after I'd bought it, with no possibility of returning it. Make sure you have a TV that accepts input, a wireless router that you can open ports to (not possible with the service I have), etc. I'm sure there will turn out to be just a few more things I don't know!
So far, a real disaster.

Customer Reviews:
Great Laser Barcode Scanner.......2007-10-02
First, the reviewer stating this is a camera scanner and not a laser barcode scanner is not correct. This is definitely a laser scanner.
My scanner works great! It scans all but the smallest barcodes and inputs it as keystrokes into whatever program you may be working on.
I'm not sure that all of them are, but mine seems to be waterproof. I found this out when I accidentally left it in my shirt pocket and it went into the wash. I found it, let it dry, it still works!
It's not really a Laser Barcode Scanner!!!.......2007-04-04
This product socks, because I wanted an easy way to scan barcodes, but this "work of art" is a headache, you have to be a master at scanning barcodes with a "Photo Camera", because that is what really is. Take a look to the tips to scan provided by the manufacturer, and you will see stuff like:
1.- Minimize movement during scanning -->(YOU REALLY CAN'T MOVE A BIT)
2.- Provide adequate ambient lighting -->(YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE PERFECT LITH TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE BARCODE)
3.- Determine the optimum focal length -->(YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE PICTURE AT A EXACT DISTANCE EVERY TIME DEPENDING ON BARCODE THAT YOU WANT TO SCAN)
4.- Position the scanner at an angle -->(FINDING RIGHT ANGLE IS A REALLY DIFFICULT TASK)
5.- Experiment with different techniques and conditions -->(YOU HAVE TO HAVE A LOT OF PATIENCE AT MOMENT OF USING THIS PRODUCT).
__________________________________________________________________
Appendix E Tips for Better Scanning
Socket's SD Scan Card 3E is based on miniature CMOS linear imaging technology. This device is basically a camera that captures rectangular digital images measuring about 1 degree high and 40 degrees wide. The imaging rate varies between about 20 and 40 images per second and automatically compensates for ambient lighting conditions -- the more ambient light, the more images per second. It is inappropriate, however, to compare this imaging rate to the rate of the sweeping beam of a laser scanner because the CMOS image is affected by blurring, while the laser technology is not. For this reason, it's important to hold this scanner still while scanning.
Adequate lighting of the target bar code is critical to scanning with imaging technology. Unfortunately, providing auxiliary lighting increases the size, energy consumption, control complexity and cost of the scanning device. For these reasons, the red light from the SDSC scanner is simply an aiming beam -- it does not add any auxiliary lighting to the target bar code. For this reason, it's important to provide adequate ambient lighting to the target bar code while scanning with this scanner.
Like all cameras, the SD Scan Card 3E has a "focal length" (minimum and maximum distance from the target) where the image can be clearly captured. The focal length of the SDSC scanner is rather small compared to that of laser scanners. For best results while scanning "normal" sized bar codes such as the UPC codes used on retail items, the SDSC scanner should be held from about 4 to 7 inches (10 to 18 cm) from the target.
Tips for Maximizing SDSC Scanner Performance:
1. Minimize movement during scanning -- The SD Scan Card 3E must be held reasonably steady on the target for a short period of time while the camera focuses and captures a clear image. The scanner typically requires only several milliseconds to capture a clear image, no more than a quarter to a half of a second.
2. Provide adequate ambient lighting --The SDSC scanner, like any camera, works much better when the target bar code is well-lit.
3. Determine the optimum focal length -- The SDSC scanner has a fairly small focal length, so it is helpful to experiment until you find the best scanning distance. Hint: When encountering scanning difficulties, most people have a tendency to move the scanner too close to the target bar code! Try moving it farther away for better results.
4. Position the scanner at an angle -- No bar code scanner works well when positioned exactly perpendicular to the target bar code label, because the reflected light tends to "blind" the sensing mechanism. For best results, position the scanner at least 15 degrees away from the perpendicular to the surface of the bar code.
5. Experiment with different techniques and conditions -- The more you experiment with different techniques, lighting conditions, scanning distances and positions, the more proficient you will become.
Conclusion
Socket's SD Scan Card 3E is a convenient and affordable bar code scanning accessory for your mobile device, and with a little experimentation and practice, the performance will approach that of the larger and more expensive laser-based CompactFlash In-Hand Scan Card.
Perfect product.......2007-01-11
It is perfect product and functions identically what I wanted. I can very quickly scan any barcode and it bring the barcode number on my cursor where ever I am working on my Palm Tungsten E2. I would rate is perfect. Would recomend to chk your usage and all details of this product on the web before buying. Salman Ahmad (India)

Could not be more pleased.......2007-12-19
Although it was hard to figure out the proper settings once I got it set it has worked flawlessly since then. My voice quality is better than I used to get with my Bellsouth line. I am running it with DSL 6mb down/512 up.
Works perfectly.......2007-12-07
I'm using this with Asterisk and a cheap cordless phone for VoIP. It works flawlessly. I can make and receive calls, use call waiting, etc. It meets all expectations.
Not so good. Already on my second RMA.......2007-03-07
I bought it new in October, 2006. I noticed that the unit got hot after powering it for a while. It was working for about a month then it started causing loud static noises on the line. I called D-Link and got a RMA#. They replaced it with another unit which did not work right out of the box. The replacement unit stopped giving dial-tone when I put the SIP server information. Now, I am getting a replacement for a replacement. Already wasted some $ on the return shipping making this thing more expensive than it is.
