Kidde Hard WIred CO2/Smoke Detector .......2007-11-21
This detector came with complete easy to follow installation directions and I had it in and working in less than 30 minutes. We had one of our Fire Captains inspect after we installed the unit and he felt that it was a very good value for the money.
Operates as specified.......2007-11-06
This seems to be working as the manual says. The only problem is that I've had a few false positives. This is because that the manual states that this unit should not be within 3 feet of the bathroom entryway. I'm going to assume that this is due to fact that the heat or steam from opening the door after a shower/bath would set it off. And it does. I'm not saying that this is a problem, I'm glad that it is that sensitive. But I didn't install it to the recommended directions and this is the result. So with this result I'm going to say that this unit has been tested thoroughly and they have put much effort into the day to day operations of this unit. As for the Carbon monoxide I can't say how it would react in a real life situation. But I would hope that if the fire portion of the unit was this well designed then the Carbon Monoxide should perform just as well.
I could recommend this unit for anyone looking not just for piece of mind for fire detection but if they also wanted to detect carbon monoxide.
Great Replacement for Smoke Detector.......2007-11-06
Replaced a 10 year old BRK Smoke Detector...This Kidde is Great! Hookup took less than 5 minutes, just replaced old pigtail connector, with the included Kidde connectors. The Kidde base feels more sturdy and the sure-lock twist design guaranteed a perfect fit. The Kids love the "voice" warnings (test mode) for Fire & Carbon Monoxide...I also love the visible 120v power indication (green light). Did I mention that Amazon.com has the best price on this unit...yeah, pick one up!
Kidde Combo Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector.......2007-09-14
The product is a great idea to combine both detectors in one. The voice portion that sounds is quite clear as to whether it is smoke or carbon monoxide. In addition the installation was quite easy for the do it yourselfer. Lastly, it was delivered with a battery installed...what a novel idea!!

Amazon.com Product Review
Designed for residential use, the Nighthawk Carbon Monoxide detector keeps everyone in the house safe from poisonous, odorless CO2 fumes. The unit detects carbon monoxide levels from 30 to 999 parts per million. Its low-profile design doesn't stand out when connect to any wall outlet. The unit plugs directly into AC outlets for easy setup, and comes equipped with a 9-volt battery for backup during power outages. Its loud, 85-decibel alarm is sure to alert the whole house when safe carbon monoxide levels are breached. The Nighthawk is UL listed, and features a continuous digital readout of carbon monoxide levels, as well as peak-level memory display, and a test/reset button. It also can be stationed on a tabletop with the included 8-foot AC cord. The Nighthawk comes with a 5-year manufacturer warranty. --Brian D. Olson
Customer Reviews:
CO Detector.......2007-12-12
This detector is easy to set up and use. Lets you clearly know when the battery is getting low, although the signal might be a little too loud for some. Warranteed for 5 years, and normally lasts that long, but not that much longer (i.e., not 10 years, but probably 7), before it needs to be replaced. I use one for every level in my home...it's worth it, believe me. CO can overtake you without your even knowing it, so it's a necessary item for every home.
A necessary tool.......2007-11-07
A home CO monitor is a safety necessity in every home with combustion sources, whether it be a furnace, water heater, fireplace, gas range, gas clothes dryer, even an attached garage. The Kidde Nighthawk makes it easy- put in a 9V backup battery and plug into the wall. My last Kidde died an early death (4 years) and kept complaing that the "battery was low", even after I put in new ones. Those loud chirps at 2 AM were really annoying. If the new one goes 5 years without doing that, I'll be OK with it.
Reliable and Simple to Use.......2007-10-16
Have had this product for about 5 years. You just install the 9-Volt battery and plug it in. I like this model because it actually gives you a digital read-out so you can tell how much CO is in the air. Most importantly Kidde has an excellent reputation for quality.
When CO Detectors first came out on the market, I bought a First Alert CO Detector with no digital readout. Many of the First Alert alarms in Chicago were so sensitive they started beeping just from the CO coming indoors from cars, buses, and trucks. At first the company refused to do anything, but the mayor embarrassed them in press conferences so they agreed to replace the original models with less sensitive models.
Then my alarm (about one year old) beeped. The fire department spent a half hour at my house but could find no CO anywhere. We called First Alert, but they said that they were only replacing CO Detectors for Chicago customers. (We live in the suburbs.) Now I can understand that this brand new product needed some tweaking, but I didn't accept First Alert's refusal to stand behind its product. I have used Kidde ever since and never had a problem.
saved our lives!.......2007-09-05
We went to my inlaws for the holiday weekend. The whole family was there including my son and my nephew (both 1). We were just sitting around together when the alarm went off. The smoke detector goes off randomly sometimes so when we heard the alarm we didnt care much but saw it was actually the carbon monoxide detector and called the police this was the first time in a long time that it read anything and it was at 65! When the fire department came there the determined where the problem was and told us that we were very lucky to have a detector in our house or we all could of been very very sick or WORSE! The fireman said that it was a very good detector and he recommends them. now that we are back home (we dont have one) I am Definitely going to buy several for my house.
Already owned one, bought this for college apartment.......2007-08-23
We already have this product in our home (9 years). I purchased another one for my child's off-campus college apartment.

AC/DC Basic Carbon Monoxide Alarm, Direct Plug Into AC Wall Outlet, Battery Back Up, Tamper Resistant Feature, 5 Year Limited Warranty, Code Compliant In All Markets.
Amazon.com Product Review
The Kidde KN-COB-LCB-A plug-in carbon monoxide alarm with battery backup is a simple, must-have device for protecting yourself and your family from the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO). Just take the unit out of the box, pull the yellow tab that activates the included backup 9-volt battery, and then plug it in. The manual has great information about where you should locate your alarm.
Weekly testing of the alarm also is easy--just press the test button and then listen for the beeps. This process lets you know whether your alarm is functioning properly and whether you would be able to hear it sounding if toxic levels of CO were in your home.
Unlike some CO alarms from Kidde, there's no digital that shows the levels of CO that have been sensed in your home. This is fine for me--I've never understood the value of a digital display. All I want my CO alarm to do is sound off we're in danger of being poisoned by CO. If we heard the alarm, we wouldn't go read it. We'd be out of the house immediately.
The 9-volt battery backup is a great feature, because it means you don't have to worry that the alarm will not function in the event of a power failure in your home. And it has a low-battery warning that tells you when the battery needs to be replaced, though this can be silenced for up to 12 hours if the battery runs out at an inconvenient time. You'll need a small screwdriver to open the battery compartment.
Don't make the same mistake I did of activating the battery before you're ready to plug the unit in. If you wait longer than two minutes, you'll face the wrath of the unit's tamper alarm--a continuous wail that renders you deaf until you plug the unit in. Just make sure you read the manual of how to avoid triggering the tamper alarm when you need to change the backup battery. --Aaron Knopf

Kidde CO detector is wonderful.......2007-11-28
Easy to use, "it just works". With battery backup, no worries. I bought 4 (including gifts for my in-laws). All are great.
Battery Backup is Great.......2007-06-10
There's lots of Carbon Monoxide detectors out there. I bought this one because it has battery backup - keeps working if power fails.
Amazon.com Product Description
Carbon monoxide (CO) is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until its too late. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air.
The First Alert CO615 carbon monoxide alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor-the most accurate technology available. Installation is as simple as plugging it in to any wall outlet. Its easy-to-read backlit digital LED display gives you a clear read-out of current CO concentrations in parts per million. The alarm includes a battery back-up giving you peace of mind in a power outage. The test/silence button both silences a non-threatening alarm or low battery warning and allows you to test the unit's functionality. The unit monitors and re-alarms if carbon monoxide levels persist sounding a loud 85-decibel horn. An audible and visual low battery signal alerts you to replace the battery and an indicator alerts you when a battery has been removed. An end-of-life alarm of three chirps alerts you to replace the unit. One 9-volt battery is included. 5-year limited warranty. UL listed. --Bree Norlander

First Alert Carbon Monoxide sensor #00615.......2007-12-08
Item was just as described. Easy to set up, test button worked, sensor is not bad looking. Can't test reliabilty of its detection sensitivity, so this is always a question. First Alert has a good reputation so I have to rely on that, and hope that a problem never arises.
I would buy again and would recommend it to others.
Russell Starner.......2007-11-21
After the purchase I didn't realize that the best place for the unit in up high. Unfortuately where I live now won't allow many things to be hanging on the walls. The biggest drawback to the unit is the cord that is used to plug the unit into the wall. I do like the battery backup feature. I got the unit for safty purposes. I had no reason to test the unit yet. I hope that I didn't waste money by buying the unit.
Peace of Mind.......2007-08-30
This is very user friendly and easy to use. Monitors the area and provides information on the level of CO present. I highly recommend at least one on each level of your home.

Dual Sensor with battery backup is great.......2007-11-28
Switching over my existing smoke alarms to use dual sensors and have battery backup. Easy to install and great price. Great purchase!
Easy Installation.......2007-11-12
In my opinion, this alarm should be in every home. The dual sensor alarm makes perfect sense. It covers both quick burning fires as well as the slow smoldering. I like the solid/constant green light on the alarm which indicates it is receiving power (hard wired) in addition to the battery back up. I purchased three of these to replace my home alarms...and the installation was very simple and easy to perform. I read a review prior to purchasing concerning the production date of the alarms. The review mentioned the alarm had been produced several years earlier, then placed in a warehouse, and shipped later. The alarms I received were all produced a few months prior to my purchase.
Great Detector, but missing 1 feature.......2007-11-05
Really like the Dual Smoke Sensor and AC with Battery backup. The one feature I would have liked to see it a remote hush - where you can use any tv or other remote and point at the detector and have it hush. Some of our ceilings are quite high where they are installed, and it would not be easy to hit the hush button (not even with a yardstick).
With the infrared remote hush feature added it would get 5 stars from me.
Also FYI - I got mine in Nov 07, with a Manufacture date of Jun 07, so
<6 months old.
Model is PI2000 - it was incorrect on amazon page when I ordered, but now looks corrected.
Alarms have 2007 Production date.......2007-10-29
I just ordered 6 Kidde P12000 Dual Sensor smoke alarms. They were shipped correctly (the AC Wire-in type) and the production date on all 6 is May 8, 2007. Nice alarms at a GREAT price. They even came with a battery! I was concerned about the production date after reading several reviews but took a chance given that I couldn't find these at any store locally. Glad I did!
An Essential Item for Your Home!.......2007-10-27
I had read the previous reviews on this item, where people said they were receiving detectors dated 2003 and one review said this product was no longer being manufactured.
So I got a number to the manufacturer and called them direct; they said the product is still being made. I ordered one and the date code on the one I received was June09,2007.
This is a great product, easy installation and I prefer the AC power detectors with a battery backup rather than the battery powered ones. Amazon had this at a better price than I had found anywhere else on the Internet.

Better The Product Package Says it is!.......2007-12-26
The package says it works for the older models, not true, it works for my 160 gb Ipod. Sure you need to charge it while there is still a power source, but all you have to do is watch for a low battery and plug it in. It is a great on the go charger!
Great for long flights.......2007-10-18
Works perfectly. I used it on flights to and from Russia and it was just what I needed. Just be sure to bring plenty of extra batteries - especially if you are watching videos.
It works, but not very well. There are better solutions........2007-10-13
I bought and compared TuneJuice against two other iPod power sources that use disposable batteries. TuneJuice was the least effective and least convenient, but it did help somewhat.
TuneJuice requries four batteries, versus one or two for the Turbo Charge units I tested. The other units could recharge the iPod, whereas TuneJuice merely slows the rate at which the iPod's battery runs down so you must keep it connected continually. The iPod doesn't actually recognize TuneJuice as a power source.
When TuneJuice is connected, the iPod either cannot display its battery level or it gives inaccurate readings. Consequently the battery level may suddenly drop from "full" to "empty" without any warning.
TuneJuice can't power the iPod's if its internal battery is so low that it demands an external power supply. The iPod doesn't recognize it, can't recharge, and won't work.
TuneJuice doesn't take advantage of the full capacity of its AAA batteries, and stops working when the batteries are about half-empty. (You could use them in some other appliance that isn't so finicky.)
Despite its limitations, TuneJuice will modestly extend the life of a well-charged iPod. It's better than nothing, but certainly inferior to some other choices.
Great Product!!.......2007-09-10
This product works just as it is supposed to, nothing snazzy just an awesome gadget!
tunejuice.......2007-07-18
wroks great when used properly. Start using it before your iPod battery completely runs out.

Customer Reviews:
A good back up power supply for a short power failure.......2007-12-15
I bought this item around 8 months ago and have used it maybe a half
a dozen times. One time my power at home went out while I was at
work. When I got home I have to upload my data via phone line, but
my laptop has to be plugged into an electrical outlet. I plugged
the laptop into the Xantrex and it worked like a charm.
I plugged in my phone with the removable handsets and it worked
fine. In stand bye mode the phone works, but it draws almost no
power. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to use the phone in
an emergency during the power outage which lasted all night.
Another time I wanted to use a heating pad in an area of my
home where there aren't any outlets close enough. I was hesitant
to plug in an appliance that generates heat, but it only drew
40watts. I used it for around four hours without any problems
before the battery was 90 percent drained.
The only thing I found doesn't work with the xantrex is lamps.
I tried a small table lamp and a floor lamp, but niether one worked.
However a chord with only a socket for a lightbulb works fine.
Go figure?????
The air compresser....well it works, but it took a very long time
to add air to an automobile tire and it made a very loud and
annoying banging sound the whole time. It also took forever to
inflate a kiddie pool.
The battery is kind of small (20 AH), so it doesn't last very long,
but it will work in a pinch. The unit is not to heavy for a women
to carry and it can be charged three ways, AC, DC and solar. I thought
that was convenient. You have to buy the solar panel. It does not
come with the unit.
If all you want is back up power in a pinch, this item is good bang
for the buck.
Rating is for Xantrex Customer Support.......2007-10-08
The nozzle packet was not included in the delivery and Xantrex is making it difficult to get it.
Failed after 3 uses/Xantrex would not fix.......2007-08-21
I used this to power a low-wattage shop light 2 or 3 times, then it stopped working. Through email with the company, they told me that the inverter had failed and they wouldn't replace the unit without a reciept. This was a gift to me, so no receipt and they refused to do anything more to help.
Lets me turn off the generator.......2007-08-18
Like many other reviewers here, I agree, "THIS WORKS AS ADVERTISED." Thanks, Xantrex. I've bought three, two I use regularly, one I gave to a contractor after we used it to refill his slow-leak tire.
26 pounds is a luggable weight. For me, this is about the right weight considering the tradeoff between portability and battery life.
A few notes. I'm using my two powerpacks in an off-grid RV. I also have a generator. They stay plugged in, so when I run the generator, they are being charged. And when the generator is off, the first powerpack lets me stay connected to a wireless internet service (the dish needs a little power from its connected USB/power cable). And the second powerpack lets me power a nice bright little halogen reading lamp at night for a few hours (the 12V lights are fine for navigation, but not so great to read by). And they are both handy to recharge the cell phone during long calls. I have also used it twice to start a vehicle with a drained battery and it worked fine (except for a badly fitting connection, see below).
If you have to run from a generator for any extended time, they will really save your generator. I figure they cut my generator time by two-thirds. Which saves me fuel, and the life of my generator, but more importantly lets me enjoy the peace and quiet of the wilderness.
I wouldn't try to run a heater or a fan off of them. But either one, fully charged, will more than double the time I can use my laptop from about 5 hours (with the big battery) to about 10 hours. So if weight is not an issue (if, for instance, you are a road warrior roaming around in a vehicle instead of an airplane), this is a helluva deal compared to buying more laptop batteries, or having to run your car just to recharge your laptop.
Here are my only complaints:
* while charging from an AC connection, it would be nice to see the level of charge; currently, I have to unplug it, then press the button, then plug it back in again
* the cigarette-lighter 12v connection to recharge from the car is sticky--not a good fit; also the charging light does not come on to let me know it's working
* the jumper cable connection to 12v is REALLY sticky, I had to break off a piece of the plastic on one of them to get it seated--the people in the factory who were making each part clearly weren't talking to each other that day--and why this particular kluge is ugly is that when you need to jumpstart your car, chances are your nerves are already a little frazzled, and having to jam the connection to get it working had me swearing
* 20 amp hour battery just does not last that long--like all of these devices, optimistic estimates of usage time should be cut by one-third to one-half
Otherwise, really, I think every household should have at least one of these. At this price and weight, it just can't be beat. You'll be happy you have it when you need it. So will anyone you buy it for.
Works as advertised..........2007-07-17
So-far so good on the Powerpack 400. So far I've used it to jump my car, inflate more than a few tires and power my laptop when the battery ran low, and so far it's come through like a champ. At $80 with free shipping (when I bought it), the price was right, and when I compared it to similar units, it just seemed like the more versatile, robust unit available at this particular price point. So far it's gone through the paces and worked like a champ. If you need something like this to power your appliances on a trip or have a little extra security when things go wrong, you could definitely do worse.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the old ones were BRK (about 8 years old) that were starting to give false alarms (naturally at 2 or 3 in the morning). I have had them for a couple of weeks with no issues. The old ones did not indicate which unit had failed and was hard to trouble shoot). I had removed four of the 9 in the last year. All 9 of the new ones worked, and I had no issues. Only time will tell if I made the correct choice, but at least the BRK2190B will show me which unit caused the alarm. I have talked with other people with other alarms, and they all seem to have false alarms, so I am hoping the new ones work better. I admit I have not maintained them according to the manufacturer instructions, but who cleans them every month and test them every week.
Awful alarm system.......2007-12-15
I am now up at 3:30 a.m. with my husband as we are disabling the 4th one of these that has gone off, chirping about once every minute. They typically all decide to go off in the middle of the night, waking us up. He climbs up on a ladder and tries to vacuum it out. It still chirps. He puts in a new battery, which according to instructions inside the alarm itself, is the reason for the chirping. It still chirps. At this point, you are screaming every expletive that comes to mind that early in the morning. You then take out the battery and unplug it because that is the only way to make it stop beeping. Yes, this means you have a smoke detector that no longer works. The other review that says this is a defective product is exactly right. Save yourself some money and a great deal of frustration and buy another brand. If representatives of the manufacturers read these reviews and do not fix the problem, they will be liable for punitive damages when homeowners who have disabled these smoke detectors die in a fire.
Smoke Alarm user Unfriendly!.......2007-12-01
Our house in The Villages came with these alarms installed. The other niight at 10 PM one of these units began chirping intermittently. Since it was installed next to the ceiling I had to climb an 8 foot ladder to remove the unit and replace what I concluded was a failing backup battery. Swinging out the battery door, I removed the old 9V unit only to discover the exact same replacement battery would NOT fit into the battery compartment. I will go to the hardware store for advice today, but this company has no battery install information on its website, nor is there the traditional install diagram on the unit. Their slogan is "Designed with the Contractor in Mind" Guess so. They certainly haven't thought about the end user!
