Never got the package on time.......2007-12-24
Wherever Amazon orders this product from -- never arrived for Christmas -- even when ordered 2 weeks before the holidays!
Defective Unit- Horrible Customer Service.......2007-12-17
When I hooked my 3G Nano up to my car with the 33199, I heard music for 1 sec before it went dead and froze the I-pod. Resetting the I-pod restored it but the same thing continually happened. Tried it in another car...same thing. Calling customer service will take you to some far-away land where people have extreme difficulty comprehending english and are flummoxed if you say anything that is not in one of there 'scripts'. After phoenetically spelling my name, address, e-mail, etc at least 3 times before they had it correct, they are hopefully sending me a new unit....BUT the service rep said THEY NO LONGER MAKE MODEL 33199, AND ARE REPLACING IT WITH MODEL 33411,
so I wouldn't even bother ordering this unit, and my experience with technical service was so frustrating, I will never buy a Kensington product again.
FANTABULOUS!.......2007-12-14
Plug and go ... awesome little gadget. Only issue came up when in New York for a weekend. Fewer radio frequencies to choose from which I suppose happens in all metropolitian areas. Highly recommend for anyone with iPod and car not pre-wired.
would be awesome if it still worked.......2007-12-13
I bought this product about 8 months ago, expecting it to last a while. About a month ago, the protective black plastic over the port that plugs into the iPod came off, revealing whatever material is underneath, but no wires or anything. I use this thing every day, on the way to work and back, on the way to the gym and back, etc., and thought it would be durable enough to handle multiple daily insertions. At first, the adaptor was unaffected, but in the past couple weeks, the audio quality has been horrible, scratching in and out from nothing, to only bass, to full blast--on radio stations that worked perfectly before. I know it doesn't have anything to do with the iPod itself, because I can still listen to it clearly using a pair of headphones.
This product was a dream until the port's covering fell apart. I guess you should be really careful with it and not carry it around in a purse, where it can jiggle around all day.
Nothing compares.......2007-12-12
I bought one with my iPod nano 8g and it failed. It was my fault, however. I let the end that plugs into the iPod fall on the floor of my work truck and my water jug sweat onto the end and the tiny terminals inside completely disappeared within a fungus-like layer of corrosion. I quickly acquired a much cheaper replacement thinking all are the same and I quickly discovered they aren't. Not even close. This tuner is far superior in every way. In this niche, you get what you pay for. I bought a Belkin and let's just say after two months of unreasonable static (I couldn't hardly make out music 90% of the time, seriously), it lit my rather short fuse for inferior junk and ended up being the centerpiece of a hammer-smashing party. I destroyed it to oblivion and smiled with retributive glee until my peers became concerned. I quickly went back online and spent the extra money for my lovely Kensington. My life has actually improved since. The difference: Kensington is a high-quality digital tuner and my Belkin was not digital. I can even put it in my work truck and tune a radio about twenty feet away on a jobsite or even another car or house radio. I love it.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Product!.......2007-12-26
This is an excellent product - works exactly as advertised. I highly recommend it, especially if you live in a city with lots of frequencies in use.
Great Product.......2007-12-24
Does go out from time to time, but that's mainly due to the fact I live in LA and there are no free radio stations anymore. Great deal!
Auto scan is a great addition.......2007-12-18
I have tried the old monster cable and wasn't very happy with it as there was a lot of static with it. This auto scan cable allows you to do a search to find the clearest channel. We've had the new cable for about a month and would recommend it to others.
do not purchase if you have the ipod touch.......2007-12-04
I purchased this product last week because a few people i know have used this and said it is the best fm transmitter for the ipod. 5 minutes after it came in i went to my truck to hook up my ipod, there was nothing. I am not sure why, but the radio station will not appear on the ipod touch screen and will not allow you to know what station you are tuned into to set your radio to. On monster's website ( as of 12/3/07) this is the first product listed on the page for touch accessories. After waiting on hold for over 30 minutes to talk to a tech support rep. from monster, i found out that the page on www.monstercable.com was wrong and that if you have a ipod touch, you should not buy this. Monster agreed to send me the correct one in exchange for this one. The one that is being sent to me is the Monster iCarPlay Wireless Plus.
Did not work at all.......2007-12-03
I tried this with both 2nd and 3rd gen nanos. The 2nd gen one would continuously attempt to tune on it's own. It would occasionally stop on an even tenth of a MHz which was completely useless as here in the US we use odd tenth MHz intervals. I tried to see if it was on the wrong region selection but the unit I had also had issues with scrolling through menus on it's own.
With the 3rd gen it would only display the currently tuned station. I got an open box unit, so I don't know if this unit was already broken. I just returned the unit for a refund.

Customer Reviews:
Static..........2007-10-04
This product does what it says, but there are only one or two stations available for its transmission. There is a lot of interference static-wise. It is ok but lower quality.
Convenient.......2007-09-17
I'm pleased with the convenience of being able to listen to my MP3 Player in my car this product gives me. It is also easy to use.
A must buy for the Sansa MP3 but sound quality is not great..........2007-09-15
A must buy for any sansa mp3 product but really the charger is the best part of this product...the fm transmitter is adequate but the sound quality is just ok...a fair amount of static especially in big cities...i use the direct output line from the sansa to the auxillary input anyway, so i don't use the fm transmitter...but the charger is nice and sound quality with the sansa mp3 is improved when the charger is hooked up,...
Poor quality.......2007-09-13
I don't know if it was because the unit was a refurb, but it sucked. It sounded like there was a short in the wire so it had to be held a certain way when in use. When it did work, it had very poor transmission and there was always static playing through the music. Even though it was a refurb, it shouldn't have been sold if it didn't work.
Not particularly the best transmitter........2007-09-06
I live in LA and it works inside the city alright, except the ocassional jitters and static noise. But when you hit inter-state, it often loses the transmission.

Customer Reviews:
You can't go wrong with the iTrip.......2007-12-21
I have used a transmitter for my iPod but it only worked 50% of the time, if that. After seeing a friend's iTrip, I decided to get one for myself. That was the best $40 I spent in a long time
In all the times that I have used the iTrip in my car--be it going to and from work, shopping, etc.--the iTrip has not failed me yet. It has worked 100% of the time and I am very pleased with this product.
Also, I have all my mp3s in 128kbps and they sound perfect in my car. Even the mp3s that are on the softer side sound great.
Good Quality, Easy To use.......2007-12-18
I really only have one complaint how the transmitter which is that it doesn't store the preset you're currently on once you turn it off. Once you turn it back on it goes to a random radio station and you have to click the the 'preset' button 4x to get to your previous preset.
It's really easy to store presets and to switch it to international mode in order to get to the coveted 87.9. It's good really good quality, I live in DC and haven't had any problems thus far with using just 87.9.
If it wasn't for the random change of stations, I wouldve definitely given it a 5
Good purchase.......2007-12-17
Good purchase. Brought it along many road trips and reception was clear most of the time. Not recommended for use in city driving. Almost never get a good signal due to radio waves crowding. However, this is still the next best thing for car stereos w/o an aux jack.
Pros: Sleek design and layout, charges ipod, excellent for road trips
Cons: Not for city driving use
Home Theater.......2007-12-17
We are very happy with the product and service. The delivery was a lot faster then what we expected.

Customer Reviews:
IPOD on Wheels.......2007-12-12
It is fantastic. Just buy it. Easy to install and you have your portable Ipod.
Didn't work for me.......2007-12-06
I am surprised to see so many positive reviews on this product but for some reason it just didn't work for me and even the design was very bulky and I couldn't figure out a way to mount it in my car.
I drive a honda accord and my plug resides right beside the gear stick. I had a very hard time in installing this device and finding the right way to mount it so that it does not obstruct the gearshift.
I encountered a very strange problem in finding the right frequency. The device works fine in the morning hours where I could play my ipod at 85.1. But during evening, though I was able to find many unused frequencies, the transmitter just wouldn't work. I got a lot of static which was unbearable and I had to finally return the product.
It doesn't work for me.......2007-11-29
The item looks sharp, particularly with it matching the white Ipod. As far as it actually working, it falls way short.
I live in the NY Metro area and went through all the FM stations and found not one station that the worked with the FM transmitter. Even the stations that had static did not work. My old "cheaper" FM transmitter w/charger and cradle with only 4 preset stations works
I don't know whether the Griffin is not working due to the area or the product. Did anyone else have the same experience? What do I do?
Does it work with IPHONE?.......2007-11-06
I had to take a minute and let you know about this product if you own a IPHONE. Now you dropped allot of money on the IPHONE and you want to be able to listen to it in your automobile. This product does work for the IPHONE, but there are some things that I must let you know before you order it.
1) You will here a slight humming sounds as your drive around. It is not very loud, but you will notice it. This happens because most of us who have our IPHONE do not wish to switch the phone to airplane mode in order to play our music, so if you have no problem with a faint buzzing sound while you belt out a few tunes then this is your product.
2) I have a truck and at first when I was trying to figure out where I wanted the Griffin Road Trip to be placed it appeared to need the extension that is included in the box, so hold on to those small pieces you never know what you will need them for.
3) READ THE DIRECTIONS! They will tell you what each part is for, and before you know it you will have your favorite tunes playing from your speakers.
I have recommended this product to my friends and family, and now to you.
Good Luck!
So far so good.......2007-10-29
I didn't have a lot of hopes in purchasing a refurbished electronics product, but so far this has held up in the few times I've used it. For the money I spent, I'm pleased with the quality of the sound (it's playing compressed music over transmitted radio waves, so again, my hopes weren't too high in the first place) although you have to keep the volume high enough to overcome the natural hiss. Ergonomically, it's built conveniently and safely enough for me to operate without distracting me from the road or bumping my knee. However, this probably has as much to do with the location of my car's cigarette lighter as the product itself. Again, for the discounted price I got it for, its dramatically improved the value of my ipod to me.

Transmitter first rate.......2007-11-08
I have enjoyed this FM transmitter for eleven months. I like the fact all the controls are right in the base to the lighter. It is easy to find your channel because the design of the frequency switches. With one click, you can go from 88.3 to 107.3. This has been a great addition to my IPod.
Does not work.......2007-09-04
No reception on any of the available frequencies. I live in a rural area with plenty of un-used frequencies and should have had no problem with the signal. It is a cheap piece of junk and I would never recommend it to anyone. I would give it a zero star rating, but it wasn't an option.
A great, inexpensive choice!.......2007-06-08
First of all, I am NOT an audiophile....I just run a stock stereo in my car, nothing fancy. This works very well for me....there is a slight hiss at high volume, but turn it down just a notch and it sounds fine. I didn't have a hard time finding a station at all. Overall, it was well worth the money I spent on it!
Great Product.......2007-03-10
I got this charger/transmitter as a present and I love it! I honestly feel like I "can't live without it!" The signal strength is great, it charges the iPod while it transmits, and it only costs slightly more than a transmitter that doesn't charge! I did wear this out after only one year of use. I would have bought a new one immediately but couldn't find this model in any of the local stores so I tried out several others and they just didn't compare. In the end I tossed the others and bought this one again. My husband just bought himself an iPod and I'm getting him one of these transmitters. We're very happy with this one!
Pros:
Charges AND transmits - my iPod battery is NEVER low!
Easy to switch from car to car - great when you have a car rental
good signal strength - expiremented and husband got clear signal 3-5 car
lengths ahead of me
cost - not much more expensive than a transmitter w/out charger
doesn't require batteries, plugs into the cigarette adapter instead
turns off when you turn off your car
The cord length is fairly long, allowing a nice radius for you to place
your iPod
Cons:
Wore my first one out after about a year
iPod turns off when engine shuts down so every time you restart the car
you have to restart your iPod, not a big deal unless you're sitting
around waiting for someone and you turn the engine on and off while
you're waiting - even then it's a small inconvenience
It's not easy to switch the frequency while driving
Only 8 frequencies to choose from (although that has never actually been a
problem for me, it could be for you)
Other:
Tried several different kinds - this def the best, better signal than any
other I have tried
Even after the transmitter wore out the charger still worked
Kensington 33159 Auto Charger and FM Transmitter for iPOD.......2006-11-07
It is very useful for charging but the FM feature I don't like a bit. Volume cannot be adjusted so the music comes out with a lot of "noise".

Customer Reviews:
Excellent Product.......2007-12-06
this is an excellent product. I have RDS on my radio and just love the fact that I can now see the songs playing on my iPod through the display on my radio. I've purchased 4 of these because the tip comes loose if you're not careful. I did get a replacement within 14 days of notifying the manufacture.
A good buy.......2007-12-05
I gave this transmitter five stars not because I think it is amazing, but because I think it is a good $50 solution to a $300 problem. What you should do is take your car to a stereo shop and have them install a deck that has a line-in signal so you can directly connect your IPod to your car. But I decided to be cheap too.
I just got a new commuter car. It has stock speakers and a stock head unit with a tape deck (If you have a CD player then just burn CDs on the computer, you'll be much happier). I wanted to listen to my music but didn't want to spend the money upgrading such a cheap car that I was planning on running into the ground anyway. Enter the Kensington IPod Transmitter. Lured by the easy fix I purchased it and am very happy I did. On a side note, my car radio doesn't even have the RDS feature so I can't tell you how well that part works. I got this unit because the low profile charger/transmitter was the only thing that would fit in my cigarette lighter.
Before you even consider this product, you need to address two important questions. Do you have any free radio channels in your area (one that is completely void of even a faint signal)? If you live in an area where there are a lot of radio stations then chances are you will be fighting the entire ride for a free frequency and you should look at some option besides an FM transmitter. Second, do you have any aftermarket stereo products in your car (speakers, head unit) or a manufacturer upgraded stereo? If you have spent even a dime on your stereo, then you won't be happy with the music quality. It plays music well but isn't entirely distortion free, more noticeably at high volumes. So to why I like it...
I like that it charges my IPod on the go while playing music thru the radio. This has filled a huge void in my hour long commute to work. The preset buttons are nice to have when I get in an area where a station is using the frequency I normally use. The off button is reassuring to know I am not killing my car battery. The use of the IPod screen to see what radio station you are broadcasting on is nifty to say the least. The part that inserts into the cigarette lighter is low profile enough to fit into the tight space in my car. Transmit power has not been a problem for me. The cord is long enough to give me flexibility on where to keep the IPod in my car. Lots of good things to say about the unit, but it is not all praiseworthy.
There are things that I don't like about the unit. First and foremost, when on the freeway I have to crank the stereo up due to road noise. At this higher volume distortion becomes discernible. It isn't bad, but it is there. The unit seems frail. Nothing is broken yet, but I wouldn't feel comfortable letting someone else mess with it for fear they would break it. Certainly it isn't toddler proof. I don't like that the connector blocks the ear phones. If I want to listen to the radio and a passenger wants to listen to something else on my IPod using headphones then they have to disconnect the unit from the charger to get at the headphone jack. When switching stations it is a very uneasy transition. Let's say I switch my car radio to 107.7 and then set the transmitter to the same frequency, Well there is a sequence of about 2 seconds from that point where the music is off and on (the unit seems to be thinking and trying to catch up). Last, the cord which gave me such great flexibility seems to be too long. In earnest, it just gets in the way most of the time.
All in all, I would buy it again knowing what I know now. It is a good unit, and a real easy way to get your IPod playing in your car. Hope that helps.
Easy to use, sounds great.......2007-08-31
I bought this for my 4G iPod nano, and it works great. I drove about 300 miles away from home, and only had to change the frequency twice. My only beef, and it's so minor that it's hardly worth noting, is that you can't move backwards on the transmitter itself to find a useable station. Other than that, though, it's great. Two thumbs up!
Very easy to use, displays song/artist on my radio!.......2007-05-17
Read the short manual before you use it and you shouldn't have any problems with the operation. I had some problems finding a case for my Gen5 80g iPod that would accept the part that plugs into the iPod. This linked one worked though >>Griffin Reflect Chrome Mirrored Case for iPod 5G w/Video. It's nice to just make a play list instead of burning a bunch of cds. Also, I have room in my console and glove box for other things now! Finding a station without much interference took a minute but after that the sound quality was great. RDS displays the song title and band on my dash (of my 2004 Chevy Caviler). I'm just loving it. If you're looking for a car charger/FM transmitter for your iPod this is the one to get.
Took a bit to figure out. Indispensible once you get it!.......2007-03-30
When you get one of these, you'll wonder how you lived without it. They should package these with the iPod as the car package. Unfortunately, one must take care of these things as they are fragile: if you step on one that's sitting on the floor in the back of the car partly frozen to the carpet because it's been 14 degrees out and you spilled a small amount of coffee back there when you were tossing the almost empty Starbucks cup for garbage later. Well, it kind of exploded. But I can't live without it. Buying another today.

Customer Reviews:
Usefull adaptor.......2007-11-06
This item is pretty inexpensive and very practical. However, remember the saying: "You get what you pay for". It does what it's supposed to do, but there are only 4 stations you can choose from, two which are never in range and it comes off the plug very easy, as well as having a very short cable. So you'd better make sure you have a place to put the iPod because you wont be able to pull it much from the lighter hole given the short cable and specially since it's very loose, it'll come off very easy if you move it much. All in all, like i said, it does what it needs to do, it just needs special care.
Suxed........2007-06-19
Didn't work well with my radio, but I am glad I can use the USB port for my laptop.
Not excellent product, but works.......2007-03-09
This one works OK until now, however there is some background noise for MP3 songs.
It works well but...........2007-03-04
... works better in the suburbs. I drive to the city and the reception is not as good. On furher research this item only has a couple of frequencies to choose from. If all the FM frequencies are in use by local radio stations, then it may not work. It does it's job and works well for where I use it.
Works as described.......2007-01-12
Not much to say here, it worked as expected and I had no issues with quality.
