Easy to use.......2007-12-28
Very good phone. Very easy to use phone and answering machine. Long range use. I recommend this product
OK for the price. .......2007-12-11
I can't really complain too much since it was a cheap phone.
The clarity of a more expensive phone is missing, but it's just
an extension for the kitchen, nothing too demanding.
Basically, it's disposable.
Cuts off people leaving messages, and you can't hear them!.......2007-12-07
I bought one of these and bought my Mom one; they both have the same problems. When playing messages that people left, you strain to hear them, even with the volume turned up to the max. It also cuts people off if they aren't talking loud enough. Was this phone designed by someone WHO TALKS REALLY LOUD ALL THE TIME?
Love this phone! Fits my needs at a great price!.......2007-11-20
I love this phone! Let me mention the main reasons why I love this phone~ first, you can turn the ringer off (a must with an infant or the phone rings the second baby falls asleep). Second, you can still use the page feature and find the phone when the ringer is off (a must with a baby who toddles off with the phone or stuffs it in the couch cushions)! The last feature that makes me love this phone is that you can delete a single message at a time from the answering machine (a must with a husband who doesn't listen to his messages).
I know these sound like simple features but not all phones offer these! They offer a lot of other bells and whistles but forget the basics.
The caller ID works great, the reception is super, doesn't interfere with my cell phone or DSL, incoming messages record and playback clearly.
The one problem I recently ran into was a problem where the phone would beep and indicate a low battery. I'd set it back in the base to charge but no matter how long it was there, the phone would beep during use and indicate a low battery~ and often died in the middle of calls.
I replaced the battery but still had the same problem. An email to customer service told me that the phone needed to be reset. Pull out the battery and unplug the phone for 5 minutes and it's as good as new!
Wish I'd emailed them before I paid for the new battery! :)
Super duper priced at $19.99 too!!
Very Good, Reliable, Simple to use Telephone.......2007-10-02
I like the size and shape of this phone. It has a good answering machine, and is simple to set up, and a great value for the price.

not satisfied.......2007-07-03
I had to return this item. The reason being is the following. I enquired within Amazon abouth the specific recording time for GREETINGS. The employee suggested I call GE directly. I did. I was told I could use any amount of the total 30 minutes allowed for recording GREETINGS. It proved to be wrong. When I received the item, the user guide specificaly states TOTAL RECORDING TIME FOR GREETINGS...30 SECONDS. Disappointed, I returned the item today.

Do not buy.......2007-06-02
I had this machine for several years and it worked fine. Then I moved into a new house and it started cutting callers off midstream, as well as cutting messages off mid playback. I figured the machine had gone haywire so I pitched it and bought a new model of the same one. Now I'm having the same problem again immediately. Perhaps it's something with the phone wire, not sure, but I'm definately not happy with the machine.
piece of junk, need I say more?.......2007-05-03
This is a complete and utter waste of money. It won't even work!!!!!! I have reset it over and over and it cuts off my outgoing message and won't even record a message at all from anyone who calls. It simply does not work, A PIECE OF JUNK, NEED I SAY MORE!!!
Hate this machine.......2007-02-22
I also have the problem that other users mentioned. I bought the machine at Wal Mart and have set it up so many times, I'd like to toss it out the window. I have had several messages cut off in mid stream. After checking the instructions, I found that the maximum recording time is 60 seconds and there is no way to increase that time. I have also called home & left messages for myself only to find that they never recorded because I hit the maximum time before disconnecting.
Crashes after every power glitch........2006-12-29
I bought this answering machine from Walmart and threw out the box soon thereafter. This was a big mistake! This machine is unreliable.
Despite the fact the unit is hooked up to a surge protector, every time there is a power glitch such as momentary power dropout or outage the unit freezes up in an inoperable condition with the display reading "8". I have to leave the unit unplugged for a day before it will work again.
This unit also has no option of muting the announcement message. I don't like listening to my announcement for every telemarketer hangup call I recieve.
Skip this machine and purchase an AT&T unit instead.

TELEPHONE.......2007-03-19
The phone was delivered on a timely basis. We've had this phone in the past and were happy to be able to find another one as our old one "died".
Waste of Money!.......2006-05-04
Sony phones are much better. This phone will cut off longer messages when recording and even if it is only 2 minutes. The reception is poor and changing channels is useless. Can't believe such a big company would make such a lousy phone. Will never trust panasonic again. The batteries run out quickly because it won't hold charges for long. I paid 50 dollars for this and felt ripped off.
You will just love this phone!.......2005-08-18
I can't tell you how many phones I have looked at to finally find one that has all the bell's and whistles at such a great price. Digital phone answering machine, you can turn off the ringer totally (alot of phones do not have this option, weird I know) you can choose from several different ringer tones and sound levels. A very well designed phone that you can also hang on your wall so you don't have to use counter space. I just love it!
Don't buy this phone!.......2005-08-10
Please don't waste your money! I bought this phone and it didn't work. The static was so bad that I couldn't hear anything. There's a button to press to change the channl to get a "better sound" but that didn't do anything and sometimes it made it worse. Please, please, don't waste your money.
Exactly what I needed........2004-11-25
Here were my criteria for a new phone: cordless with user-friendly answering machine, good reception in multi-unit apartment building, readable Caller ID display, backlit keypad and display, good battery life, speakerphone, and attractive, ergonomic design.<br />
<br />
This phone passes swimmingly on all counts. I'm surprised by the negative reviews of this phone as I find it to be one of the best on the market in its price range. (Previous to this phone I bought a GE and was disappointed by its quality and design. I don't remember the model number, but it was comparably priced.)<br />
<br />
I use another Panasonic cordless phone that I bought several years ago (KX-TC1450B). Apart from replacing the battery about a year ago, it works great. So I trust in the durability of Panasonic phones.<br />
<br />
For the reviewer who didn't know how to switch back from the speakerphone to the handset, just hit the "Talk" button. Cheers!<br />

AT&T 1818 Telephone.......2007-10-09
This is a phone that my husband & I both really like. It is easy to program. Has everything you need at a reasonable price. Hope they keep this one around for a while.
AT&T 1818 Digital Answering phone.......2007-01-16
The design of the phone is sloppy.
The handset seems to hang unstablely to the phone.
Would not recommand this phone to anyone.
AT&T should have done better.......2006-03-24
Same problems that others have noted:
The cord keeps coming out when you're talking. The reason is that the cord release tab sticks out too far and is easily bumped. A solution is to cut the tab shorter, but you shouldn't have to do that.
The voice quality on the answering machine is abysmal, both for the recorded message and the incoming calls. Often the message is unintelligible. I have two of these units and both are bad.
I am tossing these machines and getting something better.
flawed and clunky but it won't die.......2006-01-02
I bought this b/c it was on sale at best buy for US$thirty, And b/c i wanted 1) corded phone for the times I want a secure line, and 2) speaker phone for convenience when i get put on hold by customer service of [name of any company here]. I agree the answering machine sound could be better, but the worst part is that i can't turn down the volume of the tone sounds when i push the number keys. You can adjust the volume of the conversation, but not the beeps when you push the number pad. If i have the earpiece to my ear, the volume of the beeps is pain inducing. It sounds petty, but it is a real ergonomic flaw - almost a deal breaker for me. Also when going through your messages it is way too easy to delete the next message rather than the one you just listened to. For a desk speaker phone it should have a better place to label your speed dials; the included sticker just plain doesn't. Overall it is marginally serviceable phone but every use involves a little pain, and is in no way a pleasure to own. Unfortunately, i've had none of the breakdowns others have reported, so i can't justify throwing the dang thing out and getting a better one. Sadly, i've had it for about 2 years and it still seems to work fine.
Cord keeps falling out.......2005-12-26
The phone isn't too bad except that we have to hold the cord or it falls out in midsentence. We've tried different cords and we have the same problem. Plus even with the battery backup I have to reset the time and date a lot.

Customer Reviews:
Why do companies bother making such junk???.......2008-01-01
We bought two of these phones for our parents and are having the same problems listed with the other reviews for this same model. And, it looks like their reviews are over a year old. Can't believe that a company would continue making, let alone selling, such a piece of junk! Just goes to show -- check for reviews *before* your purchase. Ours are going back. What's the use in having an answering machine that doesn't work?? Shame on you GE!
Don't buy this piece of Junk!!.......2006-10-26
Save your money and don't buy this piece of junk. Ours stopped working after about three months. A real piece of ****!!!
Complete waste of money!.......2006-10-20
This phone stopped working after a week. First, the machine would record half of a message. Next, it started combining messages from various people. Then, it just stopped recording altogether. It would play the outgoing message, and even beep, but NO MESSAGE. We forwarded all calls to our mobile and ordered a Uniden - thank goodness, no problems with that one! Don't waste your money!
Too many red flashing lights.......2006-09-09
I bought this phone because I wanted an answering machine with a red flashing indicator to remind me to listen for messages - because I always forget to check. They sent me a slightly different phone - because of the colour - white GE29893. It works fine and the answering function is unproblematic. Two problems - firstly there are two indicator lights which flash red - one for messages and one for calls - so everytime someone calls it starts flashing and I have to delete the call record. Of course it ends up that the thing is always flashing and I still forget to check for messages. It is also a little quiet - hard to hear the person calling - even with the volume on full. I wish I had bought a less complicated phone.
Answering Function Does Not Work.......2006-08-22
As previous reviewer described the answering machine function simply does not work. It either answers and then hangs up, or just keeps ringing. The only option is to ship the phone back and wait up to six weeks for a replacement, sounds as those the replacement might not work either! Try another product!

Poor Battery/Cheaply Made.......2005-08-27
I have owned this phone system for 5 months. The battery began failing on one handset (the mainly used one) after about 3 months. It does not hold a charge very long and constantly needs recharching. The "Talk" Button has completely worn off down to the plastic and is no longer readable. The sound is good and have not had reception problems or interference. Mainly I am dissapointed with the battery issue and the build quality.
Good answerer, mediocre phones.......2005-04-10
My three star rating is an average. The answering machine is a four, maybe even a five, but the phones are a two.
Fortunately, we mainly use it for answering, and for that it's just fine. Sound is clear (no garbled messages so far) and both set-up and everyday use are easy. No batteries, and everything stays in memory after power failure. Quite nice, actually.
The phones are another matter. They are uncomfortable and sound is tinny. Fine for short conservations, but over five minutes you'll want to switch to another phone.
But, for the price we're okay with it. We use the phones for the bedrooms (where we keep our answerer anyway) and have a better (discontinued) GE model on the the main living room extension.
Unless you want to have the same kind of setup, look elsewhere.
Uncomfortable to use and Sound is awful!.......2005-01-28
This phone is going back. We bought it about 4 days ago, and have come to the conclusion, that we'll cuss it everytime we have to use it.<br />
<br />
The sound is awful. Lots of echo. And no matter how high you turn up the handset volume, you still can't hear the other person in the call clearly. You have to press the handset to your ear, and the poor design of the earpiece is very uncomfortable.<br />
<br />
Don't let the cheap price fool you, you get what you pay for with this phone. :(
very bad reception!.......2004-12-20
unless you're confined to one room..this phone is really not that great..
1. horrible reception! once i go downstairs, i start hearing significant amount of static. not only that, there's a very loud and sharp feedback when i move my head/phone.
2. bad receiver. the other person is always complaining that they can never hear me. when i speak at my normal tone on my old cordless phone, or even my cell phone, people never say that they can't hear me.
3. in addition to number 2, the only way i can hear the other person is if i put the volume on maximum. thats fine except when i dial numbers. you can dial like a cell phone, where you push all the numbers in first, then press talk. well when i do that on this phone, the tones are painfully loud! so basically, when i dial, i have to lower the volume so it doesnt hurt my ears. then when the person picks up, i have to raise the volume so i can hear them talking. what a hassle
overall i don't recommend buying this phone. everything about it is just sub par.
Returning.......2004-12-05
Great price, good looks, cool design, nice features.
The only problem is ... I can't hear anything using either handset. Will return to the store for refund...although it was a great deal on BF.

Conairphone built its business with standard corded telephones, which are still its foundation. However, Conairphone continues to strengthen its leadership role in the consumer electronics industry by introducing dynamic telephone designs. This reinforces Conairphone's commitment to design, fashion and value.Conairphone TAD-1212 is a digital answering system. It features fully digital incoming and outgoing message, remote operation, call screening, voice-activated circuitry, power failure protection, flashing message counter, and more.
Amazon.com Review
Why clutter your answering machine with features you'll rarely use anyway? The Callkeeper from Conairphone offers digital (tapeless) reliability and convenience in an easy-to-use package with a low price.
You control the Callkeeper through five front-mounted buttons, one side-mounded volume control, and one back-mounted switch (ring select). One all-purpose green flashing light serves as the only indicator. A slowly flashing indicator means no outgoing message has been recorded. Flashing rapidly means the battery is low. Flashing a number of times and repeating means a number of new messages has been received. On but not flashing means the unit is on and has received no new messages.
To set up the Callkeeper, we inserted a 9-volt battery (not included), plugged in the AC adapter, and connected the telephone line cord. To record the announcement (greeting), we pressed and held the Announcement button; to verify the recording, we pressed Announcement again. To play back new messages, we pressed Play Messages. Setting up and operating the unit were easy.
After hearing messages, you can either save messages by pressing Save or erase messages by doing nothing. The constraints on messages are that the outgoing announcement can be no longer than 30 seconds, and no single incoming message can be longer than 45 seconds. The later constraint is quite significant, as we've never previously reviewed any answering machine with a maximum message length that was so brief.
You'll need the quick reference card for remote operation, as the process of retrieving, saving, erasing, and deleting message is not entirely intuitive. Also, the three-digit security code is factory-preset and posted on the bottom of the Callkeeper.
With its straightforward operation and low price, the Callkeeper makes a great answering machine for those seeking ease of use over abundant features.
Pros
- Simple operation
- Low price
Cons
- No memo function
- No time/day stamp
- Only 45 seconds recording time per message
Customer Reviews:
You Get What You Pay For..........2006-02-16
In this case, I got this free then downloaded the manual from ConairPhone.com. This unit is cheap in both price and quality. It lacks some basic features which other "cheap" models have such as: date/time stamp, selective erase feature, skip a message, save a specific message. This unit, as mentioned previously, ALWAYS requires the user to listen through all messages to get to the most recent. That's if the user has remembered to save them. If the user forgets to press the "stop/save" message button after listening to them, the next call will force erasure of ALL saved messages. No chance of retrieval. I tried the remote operation with my cell phone and was unable to activate the unit, since my phone will not play the tones long enough. This is a BASIC unit. Don't get it if you want a few features; this one can be a source of frustration.
Mine's Been Working Forever.......2006-01-03
I have no problems with mine. It's been working perfectly since the day my mom bought it and used it for herself years ago (whenever the machine came out). I even got grease on it from cooking, and it still works wonderfully.
Doesn't drop line properly after caller hangs up.......2004-07-12
The most serious problem is that it sometimes doesn't drop the phone
line properly after the caller hangs up. So the phone line is still
live, which, after a few seconds, leads to that annoying "If you'd
like to make a call, please hang up ..." message. No problem, I
manually unplug the phone line. But the answering machine still
thinks it's recording a message, so it's wedged. No way to switch it
off, play back the message recorded so far, nothing to do but to
power-cycle it (both the A/C adaptor and the battery). This, of
course, means the loss of all messages, including the last message,
which you never even got to hear. This is really bad.
Other problems are relatively minor: no date/time stamp; low 45s
limit on each message; and no selective erasure of messages (must
erase all or save all). The sound quality was okay, and there is a
way to skip through the messages, contrary to what another review
claimed.
The final problem is actually quite funny: the machine apparently
plays a local radio station continuously at low volume. I confirmed
that it is the source, as the playback stops when I power off the
machine. I found it quite entertaining, but it drove my
wife nuts.
Total POS.......2003-10-06
My mother bought this unit for my elderly aunt for her new apartment. Not only is the unit non-intuitive and feature poor (even for a 72- year-old schoolteacher), but it refused to work once the power was restored after Hurricane Isabel. I suspect that it could not handle even the most minor voltage surge when the power came back on. The unit was so new the box was still sitting on her kitchen table (luckily). I'm going to shop for an inexpensive unit from a manufacturer with a proven track record of reliable phone products (Panasonic - loved everthing I've ever owned of theirs).
Echo Disposable Machine.......2002-12-16
Worked OK for just over a year then died. Voice quality lousy.

Great reception, great price........2007-08-23
Well, this product is very good, it worked for me perfectly I have it connected as a second auxiliar and connected using my VoSkype box and it works very well.
Very Good Phone.......2007-07-06
This is one of the best phones I have owned. I searched a long time for a decent phone. I couldn't find anything with good sound quality. This one has very good sound quality. Not many bells and whistles, just a good basic phone. I'm very happy with the answering machine too. I've had no problems with it and seems to work very well.
Fantastic phone, safer 900mhz!.......2007-04-10
In the current day of 2.4Ghz (same frequency of microwave ovens) and higher phones with potential negative health effects, I was placed to find GE still making a high quality 900Mhz phone!
No complaints at all with this phone, it is feature packed and easy to setup. Once we discovered my son was having negative symptoms from wireless devices that are 2.4Ghz or higher (like WiFi internet) We decided totransition our home BACK to wired phones, we decided we needed just 1 cordless on the main floor. This phone was our choice and we couldn't be more than pleased with it. 900Mhz phones have the added benefit of not constantly "Pulsing" signals from their base stations like the higher phones do.
I really appreciate this product still being available and plan to order extra ones so we don't have to be forced into the unsafe higher frequency ones in the future.
Wonderful.......2006-12-19
I have to say that this is the best cordless phone I have ever used. I only paid $24.95 when I purchased it about two years ago. I now need a new battery for the first time.
As long as they continue to sell this great phone at such a reasonable price, if I ever need a new phone, it will be this one and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a phone that they can count on.
I even get clear reception on the second floor at my friends apartment. It is an excellent buy.
Does not work and has no support.......2006-12-15
This is by far the worst phone I've ever tried to use. I bought the phone about a year ago, used it a few times, and then put it away until about a month ago, at which point I had lost the instruction manual. When I tried to use it, the language had been set to Spanish somehow, and there is apparently no way (or at least no reasonably obvious way) to change the language setting. Even doing a "full reset" of the phone doesn't reset the language. More significantly, some strange setting prevents it from receiving any calls. It displays the calling number, but it's impossible to answer the call.
There is no online version of the instruction manual (on the website, the spec sheet and the instruction document links both point to the useless spec sheet). I tried calling the support hotline, but it was completely useless -- I just got recorded generic instructions that didn't even pertain to my problems. I couldn't figure this thing out at all, and I'm a pretty decent CS/engineering student.
Overall - terrible user interface, no support, doesn't work. Don't buy it.

Dissatisfied.......2004-01-23
I am very dissapointed with the transmitting and receiving range of the phone. The reception quality begins to degrade at about 25 feet. I can not use the phone at the opposite end of my small house! The voice quality is fair to good. I have been a die-hard Panasonic fan for years but after this and a seperate purchase of an unrelated Panasonic product (alarm clock) that I am dissapointed with, I am beginning to question all their products.
Nice features but major hiss.......2003-11-17
I bought this a few weeks ago and expected it to provide the same if not better quality than my old 900MHz Panasonic, which started dying prematurely after 3 years of little use, but I was surprised to find this phone to be worse than my old one. There's a constant loud hiss that can be heard when using the phone. I tested it against another 900MHz Panasonic at home and validated that it wasn't the phone line. In addition, the same loud hiss can be heard even with the intercom feature. I really like the built in lcd in the handset, which allows easy access to recently dialed numbers and a phone book but the quality of the call is more important to me than the features however nice they are; after all it is a phone! I'm not sure what to move on to now since it doesn't seem that manufacturers make 900Mhz anymore... oh well, the search continues.
