Amazon.com Product Description
Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand but loaded with features, the Coby MP-C885 MP3 player lets you listen to your favorite tunes on the bus, at the park, and just about anywhere else. The device measures a mere 3.58 by 1.1 by 0.75 inches (W x H x D), with a removable end cap that reveals a direct USB plug for connecting to a computer (no cable required). More significantly, the MP-C885 offers 1 GB of integrated flash memory, so you can store roughly 16 hours of MP3 music or 32 hours of WMA music--more than enough for a marathon training run or a cross-country flight. And for those occasions when you need to transport data rather than music, the MP- C885 can handle that, too, with the ability to store JPEG photos, text documents, and more. The mobile storage function is ideal for transporting business documents across the country or serving as an overflow backup for your digital camera's memory card.
It's easy to navigate through the audio player's contents thanks to the high-contrast LCD display, which displays the song title and artist information. And as with the best MP3 players, the MP-C885 offers a number of handy extras, such as a built-in digital FM tuner, support for Windows Media DRM-10 online subscription services, an integrated microphone for digital voice recording, ID3 and LRC support for song and synchronized lyric information display, and a high-speed USB 2.0 interface (up to 40x faster than USB 1.0). The MP-C885, which runs on a single AAA battery (included), works with Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP and Mac OS X operating systems and carries a 90-day warranty.
What's in the Box
MP-C885 MP3 player, professional stereo earphones, USB extension cable, installation CD, AAA battery, user's manual.

MPC equals Mega Piece of Crap.......2007-12-12
this player is a huge piece of crap, i just got it today and the radio stopped working on the third use. the mp3 player works, for now! dont buy this item, their customer support at Coby isnt worth calling either.
!!! DONT BUY THIS ITEM, IF YOU DO CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED!!!
Easy player to use.......2007-12-03
We bought this for my 7 year old son who wanted an "IPOD". The price was perfect, and the ease of putting music on it is great. My son, who knows computers better than I, can put his own music on to the player!
terrible - not working right out of the box.......2007-12-03
got product, powered on, no display visable. the sound from the fm radio was nice, but there was no display. spoke with coby customer service, they had never heard of this problem. suggested return to amazon. wont try that brand again.
small but handy the Coby 1GB.......2007-11-07
Being a dinosaur in the download world, I was surprised at how easy it is to work this thing. Had tried my son's iPod and got lost. This was simple. I downloaded from my favorite CD's and have 174 songs on there right now with room for more.
Great small mP3 player.......2007-10-31
I purchased the first one as a gift, then I ordered one for myself. It holds over 8 hours of music. I like the fact that you just have to plug right into a UBS port, a great feature. The sound quality is great.
I am really enjoying it.

i got this for my daughter for xmas, and thought it was pink and purple..however its black and gold..LOL o well! ill rate when this item is played with!
Hmm?.......2007-12-06
This mp3 player is excellent. it's very small though. almost like the ipod nano size. except it's not as wide as the nano (the new one i mean). Umm? Otherwise it's a very nice mp3 player to have. but it doesn't come with a mini sd card.

Customer Reviews:
what remains is excellent.......2007-02-14
True, there's no integrated radio and
the separate radio/phone set thing is worthless...
but they never mention this, so I got my SmartDisk Rover
FOR FREE when I complained to my credit card co..
But having said that, what remains of the SmartDisk Rover MP3 Player is excellent.
Ease and speed of data transfer is exceptional. No software is needed on most systems.
The controls are fairly intuitive, a rarity these days.
The MP3 sound is better than my iRiver 799 player, which
itself is considered the standard.
Finally I much prefer this single AAA battery power source to anything proprietary
(as required with Apple units).
Unfortunately, or perhaps sensing the PR disaster from the radio thingy glitch,
SmartDisk does NOT support the product - no user guide.
Mine came with a CD of tricks for Windows - but it seems that's all in the past.
VERY DISAPPOINTED With Smartdisk & Amazon.......2005-07-10
NO WHERE did it say or show that the F.M. Radio was a separate contraption that is similiar to what Walmart sells for $1.00 and that you could not use the MP3 Player without it due to the headphones being permanently connected to the radio. Once you hook everything together and put around your neck, you
look like something from Star Wars. Also, the hold button on the MP3 Player came broken, but because I also said that I was dissatisfied with the product, Amazon made me pay for the shipping back!!!

Easy to use.......2007-11-24
This is my first mp3 player. I wanted something inexpensive to try out. It's very easy to use and I only paid $30 for mine. But once you get the hang of it you will want something a little more advanced. But beware, my light went out in about a month and the earplugs were uncomfortable, I bought new ones.

Customer Reviews:
Not worth the money! .......2007-06-09
Had it for less than two weeks and the player no longer works. The player would shut off for no reason occasionally and then finally it had a total malfunction. Customer service only had one solution and that was to reformat it on my computer but the computer would not recognize it being there. Had trouble with switching between songs with the toggle switch. the headphones are bad to use, sound quality is ugly to say the least. You get what you pay for!!
so far so good.......2007-05-03
I have had this product for about 8 mos with no problems. I bought it for 19.99 at a local save-a-lot store. The pros, other than being inexpensive, is its ease of use and transferring music. my pc immediatly recognized it with no disc needed. There are a few cons but for the price they are negligable.
Don't waste Your time.......2007-03-09
The only possible attraction to this gizmo is the price. With that said it is still over priced. I purchased my Coby player from a local sporting goods store because I didn't want to pay a lot for a new mp3 player. I just had a really good one that I spent maybe $49 dollars for, stolen. And when I went to buy a new one they were priced around $80, $90 and up.
I went with this cheapo item and paid about $36 hoping that if I lose it or get it stolen again it wouldn't be a big deal. Now I'm begging someone, please take it. I used it for a few days and did not like the difficult screen menus. You have to scroll with a toggle switch several times just to get to a menu that enables you to play music. The toggling is not intuitive and you have to jar it several times before it actually moves once. The view is less that an inch tall and so you really can't see what your playing.
Long story short before anyone got a chance to steal this one it stopped working completely in a couple of weeks. I just took it back to the store for a refund of my money. It is well worth it to spend another 10 or 20 dollars and get a decent MP3 player.
Great for four months.......2007-03-05
This item was great for the few months that it worked. I liked how I could just plug it straight into a USB port to transfer music. I had just started using its voice recording function when it stopped working. I was able to record a lecture and do an interview with it. It seemed to me to have a good range and playback. I typically didn't use the earphones, but rather plugged it into my tape player in my vehicle. A drawback perhaps is that songs are listed sequentially, so it is not possible to select a menu, choose your favorite artist, and then choose a specific song from that artist. But, I didn't mind that so much. The major flaw was that it stopped working. The COBY screen flashes on and off, never getting to the point where I can play any music. I can still use it as a thumb drive to store media if I want, but it's a bit bulkier than my other ones. When I contacted COBY about doing a reboot, I was told how to reboot it, but that it was out of the short warranty period. I know that no device is going to last forever, but I think that I'd like an MP3 player to last longer than 4 months.
It's okay..........2007-02-25
Alright, first off this piece of crap will randomly stop playing. It started off when I'd just walk around that it would turn off, but now sometimes I barely TOUCH IT and tilt it to the side to look at the song and it turns off. It is NOT easy to use if you're a HOLD button person... if you have it on hold while plugged into your computer, it will not let you delete or add music, which made me panick at first and fear for a permanant playlist.
Also, the headphones that come with it are REALLY not worth it, they are really really bad, so go buy some nice Sony ones.
AND, the song switcher thinger is a little defective... it's neat, but you can push it down and it'll hit something inside of the MP3 player that makes the songs skip and be all crazy... so it gives me a fear of damaging the insides of my MP3 player whenever its in my pocket or something.
I think thats about it... I wouldn't recommend it, unless you want a cheap piece of s***.

Simply clip this super-slim flash audio player onto your belt and you're ready to go. With its four-line LED display and built-in USB plug, the YP-U2JXB makes a great traveling partner whether you're taking a cross-country train trip or a jog through the city. The device offers support for MP3, WMA, WAV, and OGG audio files, and is also compatible with PlaysForSure WMA subscription music services. In addition, the YP-U2JXB is outfitted with both an integrated FM tuner and a digital voice recorder, so you can enjoy your favorite NPR programs or record voice notes, lectures, and song ideas for later use.
The YP-U2JXB can hold eight hours of CD-quality MP3 tracks on its 512 MB memory. View larger.
View USB connectivity details. |
The unit's 512 MB of memory holds approximately eight hours of CD-quality MP3 tracks (encoded at 128 kbps) or 16 hours of WMA tracks (at 64 kbps). Listeners will also dig the CDDB music management system, which retrieves a music file's artist name, track name, and more from an online database and displays it on the LED screen. And should things get a bit dull, users can turn to the built-in lighting effects, which sync to the music to keep things fresh.
The YP-U2JXB's audio performance is enhanced by a nine-band customizable equalizer and eight EQ presets, which include normal, rock, classical, jazz, house, ballad, R&B, and dance. Plus, the device offers a built-in clock for timekeeping and a multilanguage menu interface that accommodates users from across the globe. Perhaps the most convenient feature, however, is the direct-insert USB plug. Rather than offering a USB jack that requires an independent USB cable, the YP-U2JXB plugs directly into your PC's port. Simply remove the cap and you're set.
The YP-U2JXB--which is compatible with PCs running Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, or XP--offers support for both USB 1.1 and 2.0 interfaces and includes a built-in lithium-polymer battery that recharges via the USB connection (each charge offers roughly 20 hours of playback). And at 3.45 x 0.96 x 0.5 inches (W x H x D), the device fits conveniently in the palm of your hand or in a jacket pocket. As with all Samsung MP3 players, the YP-U2JXB carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
The Samsung YP-U2JXB Direct Insert USB Digital Audio Player uses PlaysForSure technology. Look for the PlaysForSure logo if you're shopping for a portable music or video device and you want to make sure the digital music and video you purchase will play back on it every time. Match the PlaysForSure logo on a large selection of leading devices and online music stores. If you see the logo, you'll know your digital music will play for sure. Choose from a large number of digital music and video stores, including MTV's Urge, Rhapsody, Yahoo!, MSN Music, MusicMatch, MusicNow, Napster, Wal-Mart Music Downloads, and many more.

YP-U2JXB digital audio player, earphones, necklace, clip, installation CD-ROM, and user's manual.
Customer Reviews:
Great for my eleven year old.......2007-08-08
After only a few weeks, the device is working well so far.
The only real problem that we've had we were able to work around. I tried to follow the instructions for loading music using Windows Media Player per the instructions. I did this while showing my eleven year-old daughter how to put music on the device.
I've been encoding our music into ogg files. Even though my Windows Media Player recognizes the ogg files and was able to put them on the device, the device did not seem to recognize them. So, I used WinAmp to put the files on the device and all was well.
Small, Fun, and Efficient.......2007-08-06
You get a lot for your $$$$. Great sounds. Not enough user friendly, but you get around it.
It's Great for the basic.......2007-07-31
The USB is much easier than F'n around with a USB cable to charge or sync. I think the blue l.e.d. light for the clear cap is fun and you can program it to off/random/ or when pushing buttons. The screen is small which is why I think it can be tricky to navigate the songs. You can program a playlist or set it to mix play to avoid messin with the controls. Overall super easy to use, very lightweight, and best for a backup MP3 or casual use.
Love It!.......2007-04-29
This is my first MP3 player, very simple to use. I received it as a Christmas gift. I had it for about 3 months and I too was having problems with my computer recognizing it. I called the 800 Samsung number, got to speak with a real person right away. The Samsung Support people asked me some questions, and then suggested I send it in to be repaired (warranty covered all repairs). I had my player back within 2 weeks....good as new!
JUNK.......2007-03-11
Same as most of these other reviews. I owned it for 2 1/2 months, my computer no longer reads it. There is a tone when i plug it in signifying its plugged in and two seconds later the same tone sounds and the screen shuts off on the player. I can not add/remove/or view any files on the player now. Six other of my friends computers will not read it either now so its not my computer. But hey, at least I can still listen to the small library of songs still on it.....

Samsung YP-U2JZW.......2007-12-24
This is a great product for those of us who like to listen to radio while on our daily walk/run. Although other products may be more trendy, this is very useful.
Still going strong.......2007-12-13
I have been using this for five to six hours a day for the past two years. It's still going strong. I misplaced the clear plastic cover for the usb plug, but no biggy. I love the fact that I can charge it without a charger. I can just plug it in to usb port and it charges. The battery is still great, and I get to adjust speed of playback, adjust search speed, play music in sequence, shuffle, and moreover, fm radio as well as adjust sound equalizer to get just the sound I need. I work at a plant and dropped it few times but still going strong. Love this! Best investment ever.
read this before you buy this cool little player..........2007-11-02
This is a great little player but it doesn't play albums in order. if you want it to have more features and be super cool then go to the australian samsung site and download the yp-u2 software (not the full product name of yp-u2jzw) and install the firmware update to 2.21. You can then use windows media player 11 to sync it, or use it as an instantly recognizable flash drive. I have been to a lot of forums and spent to much time on this...
I have had this player for months with no problems...
Great mp3.......2007-09-22
is an exelent device, woks very good and the sound is incredible, small and funtional, the bass af the DNS is cool,
Wonderfully uncomplicated digital audio player........2007-09-05
I would have rated this with 5 stars if the battery would just hold out for a few more hours. I listen to audio books on it but hate when it quits and has to be recharged so frequently. The Nano has a lot more time between charges.
Average customer rating:

junk.......2007-04-27
This thing didn't last long at all. First month worked fine. Second month, the files started to randomly get shuffled into other files. Third month, the folder files were unable to be deleted off the player, and the screen gave foreign jargon instead of english, so I had to remember how to get to menu items by counting 'clicks' and 'ups and downs'. Fourth month, the screen went out. Bottom line, stick with a proven technology leader like Sandisk, who have been making quality flashdrives for years. I've got one of their players and have had not one problem for nearly a year.
wow it worked for 2 weeks.......2007-03-21
do not buy this item. i brought 2 and they both failed within 2 weeks. you get what you pay for.
Wonderful item.......2007-03-11
Works great, but drains battery life rather quickly I think. Very handy to have around when you need a usb flash drive.
The Best Cheap Mp3 player for MAC or PC.......2007-02-07
I had this for 1 1/2 years. I am a MAC person. So I wanted the cheapest MAC compatible player out there. IT WORKS EXCELLENT!! For both types! No reformating of the drive, you stick in a MAC it reads it or stick in a PC it reads it. You can't use Itunes with it but the software in the box works fine. It does the job. You get what you pay for which is true. Simple to use and drag and drop and your done. I use this for work as well (transport files).
TIP: if does fail go to the website and get the FIRMWARE UPDATE. I had mine freeze up b/c I snatch it right out of the port rushing to meet an appointment. I got the update and it works again, Great!
PS I have a NanoPod too, this is COBY player is still a great value.
great little product, but may be glitchy.......2007-01-26
The navagation buttons are a little odd. The music seemed to be glitchy, but I think that was my software I was using. It has been running fine for the last 6 months. Doesn't eat up batteries that bad. I use it jogging and has a hold button which is nice.

On 4th player.......2007-03-15
I can't believe this player! I've exchanged it at the store 3 times now and each player has quit on me. It will play for awhile, but then just won't come on anymore. The customer service agent said I probably need to reformat the player, but my computer can't even find the device when I plug it into the USB port. Insult to injury, Customer Service has not been much help! I wouldn't even give it one star, but I had to rate it with something.
this thing is great!!!.......2007-03-13
the sound is good and clear! so easy to use! I got it just until I could afford an ipod, I had a creative Zen but it broke and then got another one and it also broke, one fall and its over for those Zens!!! so I got this to hold me over until I could get an ipod and I was so impressed!!! just doesnt have much room for lots of songs but I switch my favs up quite alot and since its so easy to put songs in and out it really isnt a big deal! I love it!
I am going to give it to my son when I get the ipod, but I am in no rush.
Cheap, easy to use mp3 player & jump drive.......2006-11-09
The sound quality is good. The battery life is good. It's great you can also use it as a jump drive. Only problem I have with it is that after listening to a song or two it shuts itself off unless you press pause or forward.

I am still SMILING!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-12-18
I got this last month (November) & I am having a ball with it! One upgrade I would like to see is a "VIDEO" icon in the main menu. If this is possible, the videos can be streamed (ie. played one after the other without having to manually select & start the next one)as is done in the "MOVIE" menu.
All in all this is a great device. One regret I have is not purchasing the 80GB!
Any new upgrade on the horizon? Last one was dated 2005 (system upgrade 0070).
Works like a charm!.......2007-01-12
A very basic tool to review & store images in the field when you don't have access to a laptop (or don't want to carry one). Downloading pictures is easy and quick. Transferring them to my desktop is a snap. Large viewing screen is a plus. I have not and don't plan to use the recording feature. I needed a compact unit to load my 4 gig cards to so I could reuse them during my shoots and it works perfectly for that reason.
FlashTrax Magic.......2006-08-23
I really am excited about this purchase. Even writing about it makes me smile. I gave it only four stars because of the weight, otherwise it is easy to operate, easy to trasfer images and music. I also like the radio feature. A great device to store pictures when on holiday!
FlashTrax XT.......2006-04-01
It is a great item except it will not accept cards of more than 1G.
It chokes on anything larger. I was assured by the company it would work with my 2G cards, but it does not.
While talking with technical support they revealed the unit will not work with anything larger than 1G. It will sometimes work with a 2G card, but rarely.
If you use nothing larger than a 1G card the product is great.
Great but needs a little improvement.......2005-11-04
I couldn't find any (non-photo) reviews of this media player, but it appeared to be best buy relative to current media players. I recommend it as a all around media player even though it's not perfect.
It is very useful as a music player, video player, audio and video recorder, file transfer, image preview, CF card (RAW and jpg) download, etc. I love how it folds up, providing a built-in stand and screen protection. It makes traffic and work bearable. Spend a little more to get the 80 GB!
However, there are a few issues to be worked out.
1. A firmware update is needed so that I can view the video files with the latest software out--I couldn't get ANY video files (new and older ones) to play. You have to find the OLD Dr. DivX (DivX 3, 4, or 5)! However, don't expect to be able to get the TV to play the converted DivX files with tolerable quality. But LCD is great.
2. The interface gets old quick--one must navigate thru menus by repetitively pressing buttons. Shortcuts are needed to go straight to the main menu, and to like go straight to a song list (bypassing the CF option when there is no CF card and non-music files, and straight to song file).
3. Finding a certain song and editing the playlist on the Flashtrax is very cumbersome. I still haven't figured out how to change file order except by removing the file and returning it one at a time using a computer. Moreover, it organizes itself oldest to newest, not alphabetically like the computer.
4. A radio antenna would be help!! So would a remote. And some games would be over the top.
5. There is no "on" light. When it is actively playing the amber light flashes, but I often accidently leave it on draining all power because I didn't realize it was on when screen is black like when it's hooked to the computer.
Customer service--very prompt and responsive. If you keep at it with them (and Google), you will probably get any issues resolved one way or the other.
While it may not the smallest or well-known media player, it does everything a media player should do and then some! The interface is easy to figure out, if a bit cumbersome. Once you figure out the quirks (and all media players appear to have some), you won't be sorry, especially with 40-80 GB! I find it fun and very useful.
