Design
This black and white beauty offers a traditional clamshell design with a 65,000-color display and 128 x 128 pixel resolution. Most and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. Meanwhile, the top right side of the unit houses an extendable antenna while data and charging ports are housed on the unit's bottom edge. Up and down keys for volume control are provided on the left side of the phone.
Calling Features
The Oystr's built-in address book offers quick and easy management of your contacts. The phone comes with built-in Virgin Mobile "superphonic" ringtones plus a vibrating alert. Superphonic ringtones feature real music tracks and more are available via Virgin Mobile's download service. Voice dialing of up to ten contacts is supported, as are voice commands, so you can both dial numbers and control certain functions of the phone without ever touching it.

It is my first cell phone EVER (I thought I'd NEVER catch on to them!) and I LOVE it.
It does everything I need, which is only the basics.
It's a pearly white, and the cover feels awesome. It's not slick, however. Like many phones.
You can text message, and call people, and all that.
But the only thing I HATE about this phone is the ring tones:
They are somewhat annoying, and the ones I've tried to put on my cell NEVER worked!!!
Ugh. I'm an avid music fan (mostly Pop, Rock and R&B) and I just couldn't understand why it doesn't allow other ring tones to be applied.
So that let me down quite a bit.
I'm glad that you buy the cards instead of one of those expensive service plans!!
I don't even USE the thing that much. But when I need it, it's been there and down for me so, for that, I award it...

I have had this phone for several months now. It has decent battery life (not bad as other reviews claim), good signal strength, and it is very cheap! What else do you want?
If you are looking for a low-end cell-phone, this is it.

The phone has gotten a lot of hits for battery life. I had the phone run down quickly once and quickly realized that if you close the phone on a select few functions it doesnt turn off the screen. It maybe a slight knock on the phone but if you simply look at it you can tell if the screen is on or not. If it is just reopen it and close it and the screen will turn off.
As far as the phone itself it has a few games a few ringtones and a few images. You can buy more, but frankly I dont care.
You can set it to vibrate or to vibrate and have a ringtone. It has plenty of functions for a inexpensive phone, such as web access, texting, speakerphone.
The best part of the phone however is the quality of the calls, my relatives have these ridiculously expensive phones with cameras and doo-dads and they sound like you're talking inside a toilet. This little cheap phone has 5x better sound quality than theirs. This is the little phone that can and I love it.
BLANK SCREEN???.......2007-03-23
Bought two phones for me and companion as a Christmas gift.....excellent price..good features......etc etc!!! Now the LCD screen is totally blank!!! I can make and receive calls......but......what the heck???
Oh yes......i can bring back to the dealer and wait God knows how long to get it back!!! Why bother??? I'll just let my TOP-UP time expire.....and so long VM/KIOCERA!!!

Ok so for those of you who are upset about the gadgets not being advanced enough...... come on, it's $20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You get a great bargain for the price, if you want to upgrade, the next phone is $50 and up! This phone is being discontinued according to Best Buy, so if you're debating GET IT NOW AS THERE'S ONLY A FEW LEFT IN STOCK AND WILL NOT BE COMING BACK. Just keep your charger handy and or take the suggestion from a customer on here and adjust your settings. I bought this phone for my sister who will be entering college in a couple of weeks, the service is a Sprint line, and the free nights and weekends are the best! Paired with a $20 prepaid phone card, this is a great gift below $50!!

DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!
My mother and I got these as Christmas gifts from my brother. We both have Virgin service. Well, my battery would not even keep a charge for two days!!! I do not use the phone unless needed, so no calls were made. Virgin replaced the phone after some complaining... the next one only had a battery that lasted four days (remember, standby is supposed to be 7 days)... again, try and get a replacement from Virgin.. and the third phone is only good for two days...
Now, Virgin will not let me use the price as a credit, so I will have to buy another phone to get a decent battery life.. a complete waste of money.

I got this phone a few years ago before switching to the OYSTR, and it's a great little phone. I love the design, and how small it is. The phone fits in your palm. It's not good for people that want all the extras, but it's good for emergencies and for people who don't talk alot, like me. The phone has great reception, I never lost a call, and its battery life lasts forever. The flashlight is also really helpful, it shines real bright. The sound quality for the ringtones you download isn't that great, but you can at least have a ring you like on it. The phone has a whole crap load of rings to pick from, and if I didn't want a flip phone, I would of definetly stayed with the Kyocera K9. This phone is perfect, along with Virgin Mobile service.

Let's see. It rebooted consistently when one of my friends called, the voice recognition is worthless, the paint fell off of the keys, the ringtone named "PHONE" doesn't work, the display got clogged up with dust, and Virgin's customer support was awful. Avoid.
Priceless budget phone.......2006-09-15
I bought this phone for $20 at Target when I signed up for Virgin pay as you go. The flashlight has been a life saver in power outages. Keeps a long charge and is great for those quick calls. The sound quality is not that great but I can still communicate. I recommend this phone and the Virgin plan is awesome. I pay $18 every three months and it's 18 cents a minute.

I am of the older generation (44 yrs old) And I am firmly convinced that a phone should be.... a phone.
No need for a Camera, (I have one) Ring tones, games, dental floss or anything else that isn't related to answering by saying Hello... Color me silly, but I just want a phone.
This little Gem does exactly what I need, it places and answers calls, very reliably. Simple to use, nice features (some of which I have never used/don't need). Most importantly, it is SIMPLE to operate!!!
With Virgin Mobile I pay 10 cts/minute and have NO plan to sap my $$$$$.
Text messages are simple, and once I learned how to do them, I didn't need to place calls as much. The K-9 lasts for HOURS on a battery charge and standby time is very generous, (if I forget to plug it in daily).
The phone is DURABLE too, my son accidently Washed and Dried his K-9 (thanks Maytag) and it still works... It's much cleaner too.
Originally purchased as an Emergency communicator, I was very pleased with it and now use it daily.
If you dont talk for hours in the evening, like some folks. This plan/phone is PERFECT!!!!! and Virgin mobile now has a reasonable Month by Month plan that offers FREE talk time too, with 1 Cent texting also available!!!!! WOW, I might just consider doing that instead of the 10 cent minute option.
Check it out, for $39 you get a phone that only costs $7 a month to maintain, if you dont use it that much!!! AWESOME insurance for the traveller!

I bought this phone a little while back when it was new. I dont see any problem with the ringer. The graphics do suck, and the camera is the worst camera on a phone I have ever seen! It is just pixelated crap! If you want a phone that has a camera on it that is good, do not pick this phone. I hope the other virgin mobile camera phones are better, than this piece of crap.

this phone has its pros and cons. i think that it is a great starter phone and virgin mobile is the best prepaid service but there are some downsides. First, it has a really crappy camera and i mean awful. also, it does not hold that much memory.

I bought this phone in the swapmeet by 50 dll , it is not open ,but the bad thing is that I can't use it because Virgin Mobil needs to activate this with a proof of purchase receipt which I don't have because in the swapmeet you pay cash !!$$$ Now , I don't know what to do because the person who sold it to me , is not working there anymore ,,,plsss somebody could help me ???/

I recently bought this phone and I think that it's a great starter phone,however, I will be getting another phone. Here are some of the pros and cons:
CONS
1.The phone is so bulky and long
2.Nothing against blue, but in my opinion, a phone looks better in silver or black most of the time(I was only able to find the blue kind)
3.The phone has the "virgin mobile" logo typed so people can read it nice and clear (I mean really, it's like they're trying to annoy us, and even if you are a virgin, you don't wanna walk into school and people are like "hey, man wassup with my virgin homeboy?, or "HEY,LOOK, IT'S THE VIRGIN,HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!", or maybe you're trying to take a picture of a hot girl and at the last second, she says, "oh, wait, you're a virgin, you probably don't even know what a ***** is. Get away from me, you virgin!")
PROS
1.The phone is good for taking up close pictures, even though you won't get to take a picture of a hot girl because of the described situation above
2.It has many coool features, like virgin XL
3.Its a really amazing phone if you don't plan to show it to anybody

Tracfone gives better deals in minutes.It is perfect for those with light, in town usage. It only uses one unit per minute, two if you're outside of your area code(roaming), and long distance doesn't cost any extra. The airtime doesn't cost a fortune, and you have no credit checks, or monthly bills. Reception is good because they utilize many different providers instead of just one. They also have a referral program, so you can earn 100 extra minutes for free if your friends and family buy one too(they also get 180 minutes).
