I bought the PSW10 on Amazon for about $100, and I am blown away by the value. I worked as a profesional home theater installer for about 5 years and sold many $400 subs that were no better than this. The 50 watt power rating is very conservative. Truth is, it's just an honest rating on a quality amp. I paired it with a run-of-the-mill Pioneer receiver and the Klipsch Quintet II speaker system. (also from Amazon $300)The end result for a $400 speaker system is amazing. For music and movies at low to moderately high volume, you could spend $2000 on a Bose system and not have sound this accurate and dynamic. (My mother in law just did).

If you were lucky enough to get this for $100, then you will be very pleased for what you paid. It looks very clean and attractive and is relatively small for a ported box. The sound quality is great for frequencies down to about 40Hz. Below that, the limited power/excursion and probably tuning causes the sub to really struggle to hit the really low bass notes (if your into hip/hop & rap this is where you should say, dang!) Otherwise the sound is very smooth with the exception of port turbulence at certain frequencies, you know that annoying noise that sounds like a piece of paper is flapping inside the box, but this is typically only at really low frequencies anyway. All in all a great addition to a compact setup, I use it for my surround bar home theatre system and is highly recommended for $100. For $200 it would get 3 stars!

This speaker replaced cheap radio shack center channel,that never really gave decent sound. Especially dialog on movie soundtracks... My wife would always say"What did he just say?" or "I can't hear them " etc. Haven't had that problem anymore. Made the biggest sound differece in speaker setup because so much of dolby 5.1 is though the center speaker. This got a good review in CNET rated 7 of 10. it is really well built and quite large. 16x7x9in It fit in my setup but might be too large for some tastes.. But the sound is VERY clear and accurate, Great for sports movies and music too, its a good choice without going broke..

This is my first foray (actually it was a gift) into Polk Audio merchandise. I am pleased with the crisp, clear, and detailed high frequency sound it emits. It has considerable resolution and articulation that helps deliever lifelike representations of vocals and instruments. There is virtually no distortion, and it sits above my T.V., which sometimes speakers and T.V.s will play interference with each other, but not this monitor. I have it hooked up to my Sony STR-DE697 Receiver, and it has been able with great clarity to handle high volumes. This is a great buy, even if you have a modest receiver

The Polk RM6751 satellite speaker accommodates listeners who want to add a channel or two to their existing 5.1-channel surround sound speaker system. I bought these satellite speakers to complete my surround sound system. I already had two bookshelf speakers, a center channel and a subwoofer, all Polk Audio. And these do very well for the rear surround speakers for sound effects and supporting audio in movies. I am very happy with these speakers for what they are designed for. Polk Audio makes great audio components.

Great little speakers.......2007-12-25
These little speakers were great value ($130/pr), are quite attractive and well built, and most importantly deliver very nice clear sound when playing playing music (jazz, classical, popular) and movies. They are of course, short on bass (due to their size). They replaced a pair of JBL 3way floor speakers which had better bass, but weren't quite as good in the upper frequencies. I needed the speakers off the floor and away from my babies. I wouldn't call myself a high end audiophile, however, though I do appreciate good sound and I am not willing to pay top dollar (yet).
Great bookshelves.......2007-11-14
I have had the Monitor 30's for almost a year now and am incredibly impressed. Great bang for the buck (paid $140 on sale at CC). I am using these as fronts in my 7.1 surround set up, with Polk M10's as the surrounds and a Pioneer VSX-1018 avr and Sony 40S2010 LCD. I am still using a crappy jvc htib 60watt powered sub, but am planning on treating myself to a Avs123 X-sub for Christmas. :) Anyway, I am here to talk about the Polk M30. My set up is for a 15'x17'den. That's a fairly small room and I have a wife that agitated with overpowering sound (yeah, my love for audio equipment does not always over well). Although I would have loved to go for a floorstanding speaker, I agreed to stick to bookshelf size to keep my wife happy. The M30 certainly fit the bill. They have a clean, accurate sound with excellent highs and mids. The sound is linear and smooth, with a warm tone. If you like a brighter sounding speaker, these probably aren't for you and you might be better off with the Infinity Beta series. As far as bass goes, on my radio shack SLP, they drop as low as 50hz, which is pretty decent compared to most of the bookshelves I have heard and better than the specs indicate. Still, these speakers, by themselves don't produce enough bass depth for stand alone duty. You will need a decent sub that can make up for what the M30's lack and, given the m30 range, setting the crossover on the amp at 80 is the way to go with these babies.
These speakers are designed for a tonal match with all other speakers in the monitor line and the M10's are perfect for satellite duty. I would recommend spending a little extra for the Polk CS1 center over the CSM (returned it). As for a sub to match, CNET likes the match between the Polk PWS10 with the Monitor 30s (used in their test). I auditioned the PSW10 and felt it was lacking umph. I preferred the sound of the Velodyne VX-10 or Dayton 120 (although I am going to take the advice my audiofile friends and go for the Avs123 sub-x for $200).
The bottomline, the Monitor 30 is a high quality bookshelf speaker for a fair price. If you're a hardcore audiofile looking for paradigm and definitive bookshelves, the M30 isn't going to work for you. However, if you're looking for a nice sounding speaker but don't want to spend $800, these are ideal. Certainly, they blow away anything from sony, pioneer, yamaha and Bose etc.
Good for small rooms or rear surround.......2007-07-29
I made the mistake of thinking that these speakers could be used as front channel speakers with a sub (Polk PSW 12) so as to look nice on either side of my new flat screen TV. While they looked great, the sound was truly lacking. If all you want is home theater sound and you don't do very much listening to 2 channel music, then these are fine. For music playback, I found them to sound "boxy" and lack mid-bass even with a sub.
Polk makes a great speaker and for a small room or rear surround these are probably perfect, I just couldn't make them work for my application. I have a pair of Monitor 40s now and they are just right.
Not too bad for the price..........2007-06-17
I got a used pair of these off eBay for about a hundred twenty shipped, was using them for surrounds and recently moved them to computer duty powered by a Trends Audio T-Amp (absolute steal) and have been reasonably ok with them.
Tips: I found that they actually sound better when placed upside down, so that the tweeter is on top. Try it both ways, I'm sure that individual room accoustics, placement, and tastes will all come into play.
Due to space constraints I have them very close to a back wall, which made them sound a bit boomy until I decided to stuff a sock into each of the speakers' rear ports. Since I listen mainly at moderate (60-75db) volumes this doesn't really do any harm to the speaker itself.
Detail and imaging are competent but nothing to write home about, the tweeter is not quite as precise as I would like. In retrospect I think I would have been better off going with Athena AS-B1.2s (about a hundred twenty five shipped from audioadvisor dot com), or especially the Ascend CBM-170SEs (ascendacoustics dot com) which is light years beyond but does cost about three hundred fifty. With a beefier amp though I think the Onix XL-S bookshelf speakers from av123 dot com would do very well at about two hundred fifty shipped.

I have this pair hooked up to a Onkyo receiver and use them mainly for sound when watching sports and movies in HD on my flatscreen. Crystal clear and surprisingly good bass considering I don't have a sub hooked up.
If you're an amateur like myself, go get em - you'll like em.

The monitor 50's have been perfect for what I bought them for: To use with a sub. I would not recommend these speakers as stand alone but they sound GREAT if used with a sub in any a/v configuration (I am using a Polk Audio PSW110 sub with this and I love the sub) or as the right/left front speakers in a surround format.

I connected these speakers as my front left and right speakers for my home theater room (connected to a Yamaha RX-V661 receiver). These speakers are wonderful to listen to. I purchased these along with the PSW 10 subwoofer to use with a TEAC Reference Series tuner and CD player. I listen almost exclusively to classical music, and what I was looking for was a concert-hall sound. Without the subwoofer, the bass was too cloudy for my taste, especially the lowest notes on piano recordings. Once I added the sub, I am extremely satisfied. The sound is amazingly realistic, precise, rich, and warm. For a combination under $1,000 this is an excellent sound. I wish I had put this together years ago! --If you're using these near a television or computer (which I'm not), opt for the PSW 12 subwoofer that has magnetic shielding the PSW 10 lacks.
Great speaker. .......2007-12-05
I have been using a pair of Monitor 50 for a couple of years. I am very happy with it. I have a small listening area (18x16) so I looked for accurate and clean sound rather than power; I like to be practical when buying A/V euipments and I also have a 50/50 split between listening to music and going 5.1. For the price and for my needs, the Monitor 50 is just great.
These speakers can reproduce a very broad range and good quality of sounds with pretty good bass. They can also take a whole lot of power and I have not noticed any stress on them when played at reasonable high volumes.
I use a Polk Audio PSW10 subwoofer. One time I had accidentally turned it off for a few days. During that time, the Monitor 50s just breezed through all the music; I didn't even notice that the subwoofer was missing until I played a loud action movie.
The footprint is slim and just about right. Construction is very good and they look nice except for the plastic feet which took a few days to get used to. I also have a pair of M30 as rear speakers and a RM202 center speaker and the set works quite well.
The Monitor 50 is terrific; unbeatable when price is considered.

Polk Monitor 50's.......2007-10-24
I bought a pair of these recently and was impressed with the clarity and performance with my old 100 watt amp.I replaced a pair of Infinity studio monitors that blew after many years,these had 10 inch woofers and the Polks have 2-5 inch but I don't see the need for a sub woofer at this time.These Monitor 50's have great range and would recomend these in this price range to any one looking for great sound and are not too expensive.

Pretty Weak.......2007-10-23
Speaker is small and made of plastic. 3" drivers are weak and not capable or reproducing lower frequencies. If you want full sounding dialog and effects, or deep vocals from your center channel speaker, look elsewhere. I suggest 5" min. drivers for a center channel speaker. Like another reviewer here, mine ended up being used with a smaller TV in a bedroom. The resonance produced inside the TV cabinet actually improved the sound a bit.
not impressed.......2007-09-22
The Cerwin Vega center I was trying to replace was about a decade old, so I figured that technological improvements over that time-span would let me buy a better speaker for a reasonable price. Although the price is reasonable on this Polk, I was certainly not impressed with the sound produced. ALthough the CV only has one speaker and this Polk has 3 built into it, the sound on the Polk is so much quieter and less crisp. I guess I'll put it in with the tv in my bedroom. It certainly doesn't belong with my 50" Sony SXRD HDTV, my Harman Kardon receiver, or my JBL speakers.
If you're just looking for a fair speaker at a reasonable price, I'd recommend the Polk. But, if you want a center channel that produces strong and crisp sound, you should look elsewhere.
Very clear vocals in a small package.......2007-07-26
While overhauling my home theater system, I decided to try a new center speaker. Even if this speker did not work well, it could go into another room.
Wow! What a pleasant surprise to hear the sweet, clear sound this speaker produces. At less than half the size of my existing center speaker, this Polk Audio RM6752 center speaker produces at least the same amount of sound. More importantly, vocal sound through this speaker is clear and crisp.
So, this speaker will stay with my home theater system. The older center speaker can go to the other room for a 3.1 setup. As you can guess, I do recommend this speaker. Though small, it provides a sweet, clear sound for your center channel.
Good sound in a small package.......2007-05-28
Don't let the small size and light weight fool you. This center channel speaker packs plenty of punch. For me, the main purpose of a CS speaker is to deliver clear vocals and dialogue. With this Polk, I no longer have to lean forward in my chair or crank up the volume to hear conversations. All sound coming from it is crystal-clear. I'm very happy with it. I have it set up with an Onkyo receiver, an RCA sub, two Bose front speakers, and four Klipsch surround speakers.

When they delivered this center speaker, I thought that someone, somewhere--had made a huge mistake...the box was huge! It was all plastered with caution-signs warning of the heavy weight of the object inside the big box...Thankfully, it was just that whomever shipped it was being a bit too careful...coz, this rascal only weighs some 6 or 7 lbs, at the most...But, the sound,,,the sound is glorious, and fits right in with my Polk R15's...I could not be more pleased with this purchase! So, thank you Polk and thank you Amazon--you guys rock!

Very solid speakers.......2007-08-02
I shopped for and tried about 6 different pairs of bookshelf/front speakers from Polk (Monitor 30s, 50s), Bose (301s), and Klipsch before finally settling on these. To me, they strike the right balance between size, sound quality and asthetics. I have them paired with a Polk PSW12 subwoofer in the corner of the room. With the sub, full sound completely fills the room for home theater, and more importantly to me, for two channel music.
I tired the floorstanding Monitor 50s (over $100 more/pair), but find that these sound better. I have them placed on top of a 35" peice of furiture. I think the higher placement improves the sound field. I also bi-wired these to my receiever which makes a difference to my ear. Overall, they are an excellent value and highly recommended.
Excellent Pair of Speakers.......2006-11-29
This is an excellent pair of speakers. I am very pleased with their quality having used them for about two months. I have them hooked up to a Kenwood KR-9600 and they work wonderfully. Excellent highs and lows along with excellent mids. With the KR-9600 I can get these speakers to have a wider frequency range than stated. The speakers work well by themselves and I would not bother to get a sub. I have my computer hooked up to the KR-9600 and I play my cds this way. I can raise the bass even more by doing this. The only downside is the price; however, they are well worth the price. The grills are alright but I took mine off because they look cooler. All in all this is a very good pair of speakers and with the proper equipment one can get them to excede their standard specifications.

The size is a little bulky but the sound is great. Dialogue sounds like they are in the room with you. A lot more clearer than the cs1 model, worth the extra money.

Superb sound for any occasion.......2007-10-30
I have heard in previous reviews about how these speakers don't have any bass and it's so absurd. These speakers have the most amount of bass I have ever heard out of a set of floorstanding speakers with no subwoofer. You truly do not need a subwoofer with this set, although with one it only makes the sound better. I find these speakers to be a superb deal for the money. I am pushing 75w RMS to each speaker and they sound beautiful with my Onkyo receiver. I am very pleased with my purchase. I have played these speakers extremely loud for a long period of time with anything from rap to rock and they do not distort and keep on playing strong. They have taken my abuse with ease and are a very good speaker for anyone who likes extremely well sounding audio, and superb durability.

I got these for my home theater. I previously had the JVC 1000-Watt system TH-C5. Needed something with more clarity. Here's my setup: Front R&L - Polk Monitor 60s, Center - Polk Csi3, Rear - Polk RTi4, Sub - Hsu VTF-2MK2, Receiver Onkyo TX-604.
I did alot of research before finally ordering these speakers and heard alot of speakers at my local Fry's. First off, I really wanted floorstanding for my fronts, but wanted to spend under 700/pair. Alot of people complain about how there's no Bass with these speakers and they are right. These speakers need to be supplemented with a subwoofer (which is essential for any home theater system in my opinion). But the high/midrange of these speakers are amazing for the price. The speakers sounded better than the Monitor 50's especially at higher pitches, and they did sound crisper at duller volumes. But I did not notice a big difference between these and the monitor 70's. So, I'd recommend these M 60's over the 70's as the 70's dont justify the higher price tag.
And wow the clarity of this system is amazing. Movies, HD television (like 24, Prison break, and Lost), and my downloaded music videos all have a whole new feel to them. Its spectacular. I love POLK! I'm so glad I got rid of my JVC's. by the way, did I mention, that speakers look sexy! Everyone gives it a wow factor when they walk in and look at them, not to mention listen to them.

I recently purchased a pair of these speakers and added a 10-inch subwoofer as well as two bookshelf monitor series speakers. WOW! For speakers that Polk Audio considers entry level these are an excellent choice for someone who wants to save money and get a well rounded speaker system that covers an array of music genre. From Classical music to Rap, these speakers will do the job.
