Only four things would improve this phone........2008-01-02
Well I cannot say I am complaining. It is nice to have two handsets instead of one. There are four things I would change about this phone:
1. I would allow the second base to have a "pager" button. Often times we can find neither handset, and I rather dislike having to go all the way downstairs in order to page the phones.
2. I would have a lighted keypad for better functionality in the dark.
3. I would allow for the time to be displayed even if there is a message. Too often there is a "Mew Message" sign on the screen when all I want to find out is the time.
(I am not a big user of answering machines at all although I do appreciate them.)
4. I would have even more ring tones available (trivial).
A word about claims:
--Battery life does seem to be very long, although I never really timed it. I am also comparing it to the phones that we have had previously. Those had proprietary batteries that couldn't hold a charge after two years.
--Range is superb as is sound quality. This thing works three to four houses down the street (although that drains the battery somewhat). I tried it.
--No interference with Wireless-G.
I am not sure you can do much better than this for phones. Why would you buy another?
Works great!.......2008-01-01
I like these phones. I usually buy cheap uniden phones. I bought a set of these for my house. My aunt liked them so much I bought her a pair for Christmas. The work great and reception goes way down the street. I'm very happy with these phones. They don't have the flashiest of menus but they are solid performers with clear reception and long range.
Excellent phones.......2007-12-29
This is an excellent set of phones at a good price for the quality. I love the selection of ring tones available. Display is easy to read. Setup up was quick and easy.
panasonic phone.......2007-12-29
So far we love this phone. It is very clear reception and has alot of very cool features. The ring tones are great and i particularly love the fact that you can program one handset with numbers and copy to ALL. The flash button and the speaker phone is easy to access.
Generally worth it.......2007-12-29
goods: sound quality, features are good, intercom is nice, speaker phone is excellent.
bads: the menu system sucks very big you know whats. Not intuitive at all.
overall though its worth the @@ if you need a decent phone.

Great Phone But NO Headset Jack.......2007-12-26
Purchased this phone when my older (must have been over 10 years old) wireless VTech performed a nose dive onto the floor and could not recover. I stayed with VTech and bought in to the new DECT technology even though I didn't seem to be experiencing any issues with my wireless router and phone sound quality.
The VTech 6042 is a nice phone with good feature set. The base has a much smaller profile than many older phones and the handsets sit upright in the cradle, so you'll save on some desk space with this new cradle.
The handsets are light, sleek and comfortable and easy to hold. The audio quality is very good, the mute button easy to find when you need it, volume controls for ringer and handset work well and the headset doesn't interfere with hearing aids.
The only fault I could find was with the lack of a headphone jack on the handset. If you are one of those that have long conversations on the phone and have come to rely on a wired headphone attached to the handset, look elsewhere - the VTech 6042 does not provide headphone jacks, so you'll have to live with the built in speakerphone feature. If headphone jack is a MUST HAVE along with DECT technology, look to the Uniden DECT2080 instead.
Send back to Vtech if batteries are bad.......2007-12-19
Many of these phones are defective and will not hold a charge. Vtech replaced mine in two days (sent me new phones first with prepaid shipping to return the old ones.) The new phones work great.
Do not return them to the store. You are going to get more from the same batch of bad phones.
Every company has problems at one time or another. It is how promptly and courteously you handle the problems that really matters. I'm happy with the phones.
Good basic function, strange design choices........2007-12-11
I admit I was taken in with its sexy design and slim handsets. Fortunately, this phone does the basics fairly well. The sound, both from the handset and from the base unit, is very good -- clear, crisp, realistic. The backlit handsets are easy to read, which makes the operation easier and the blue color makes it quite attractive. The LED display is clear and bright, with a blinking number for messages, illuminated button for whether the answering machine is on, and a charge light (on both the base unit and satellite base). The answering machine works very well and is intuitive to set up, so this is the phone's best feature. (It comes with a built-in message that is permanently saved, so it can be recalled at any time.) The microphone must be a decent one, as it records pretty well, although my voice sounds a bit muffled. However, it is better than some other phones I've used. Speakerphone is excellent.
The handsets are slim, so fit into the hand easily and comfortably and the base unit and satellite are small, so they take up little space. The base and satellite each have large, silver-colored toggle buttons that take you to the various functions.
There are some design problems. Headsets are not possible. The slim handsets are comfortable, but sit in the base and satellite units at an angle large enough that you must be careful how you replace the handset. I've dropped both handsets a couple of times and as another reviewer has mentioned, it doesn't appear that they will withstand many more trips to the floor. The slim design also means you cannot rest the handset between your shoulder and ear. Setting up a directory is non-intuitive, requiring going through a sub-menu selection process that is irritating. Redial isn't simply a matter of hitting the redial button -- you must hit call, then redial. However, I've found this doesn't always work. I unplugged both the satellite and base unit during a lightning storm and had to reset everything, meaning I even lost my entire directory and had to re-enter it. Very annoying. I don't know if V-Tech has designed the ring feature this way, but I haven't figured out how to adjust the rings so they are identical. I'd rather not have two different kinds of ringing at the same time, but apparently this is something I must live with. Deleting messages must occur while a message is playing and cannot happen while the message and its date/time stamp is being announced. The lack of a keypad on the base unit was something I didn't think I'd need, but now I wish this phone has one. If you're listening to a recorded menu of choices ("Press 1 for customer service...", etc.), there is often no pause once you press the number on the handset, so you've missed part of the next message during the time it takes you to get the handset back to your ear.
Although the phone does basic things pretty well, there are enough design issues that I simply cannot recommend it. 3 stars is generous.
Excellent phones.......2007-12-10
Tired of your old house phones. Well now you can have these awesome phones for the right price. They handle just like a cell phone and are very high tech. Very nice looking and very convinient
Awesome phone.......2007-11-30
This is a great phone. I ordered it when my husband came back from Germany and it arrived with in a couple of days. It's not bulky and looks great. The only problem is that there is not a slot for a headset. But great phone and would surely recommand it to everyone.

Love it.......2007-12-27
I can use it all over my house (3500 sq feet) and this phone had sound quality and range like no phone I've ever had. haven't had it long enough to know about the battery "issues" but I tend to leave the phone in the recharge cradle so for me that's no big deal. I'm happy to burn the extra 7 calories and put the handset back where it belongs.
Works for me.......2007-12-24
I've had this phone for about a month now and think it's a really good one. It's very easy to set up and to keep clean. The display is much better then the last VTech I had, and the voice mail is as good as I could ask for. The speaker phone works great and the price is right. I do recommend this phone.
VTech 6032 DECT 6.0 Cordless.......2007-12-19
The phone is great as far as sound quality. However the battery life is terrible. Also there is no battery life indicator to let you know when its low. You can see a battery icon only while the phone is on the charger. Even then it doesn't indicate full or low. Only that its charging. It dies after being off the charger for only 12 hrs. Talk time is like 2.5 hrs. I just returned it. Uniden is much better for battery life.
good phone.......2007-12-12
This phone works very well. I have simple needs in a phone and this suits those needs. It's sleak and modern.
great phone.......2007-12-10
My wife and I are very satisfied with this phone. It's easy to use, and has the features we wanted. We use it with our Vonage phone service and the reception is outstanding! I've personally made calls almost a block away from my house!

UNBEARABLE CHIME.......2007-12-23
The phone is great, looks great, has cool features although its menu reminds me of the first color-screen cell phones. However, there is INDEED a problem with this phone and ANY kind of VOIP service. If your land line is a VOIP service like Vonage, ****DO NOT BUY**** this phone or you will be bothered with the phone lighting up and chiming all the time. In my case, every 30 seconds. Unbearable. I'm returning this phone tomorrow. I'm giving it one star because a big company like Philips should have tested this phone on every possible situation before selling it out (which is very irresponsible in my opinion) and for not having a fix to the problem. Their tech support was okay and aware of the problem and gave me a suggestion to fix the problem adding "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't". It didn't.
Great phone.......2007-12-08
I love this phone. The SIM card function is brilliant, the design is smashing, and the various functions rock my world. I would however like more options in regards to the ring sound. Also, this phone is a bit pricey comparing to other phones in the market with similar or same functions. I would still say that the "look" of this phone compensates for the price and it is well worth it.
Great if You Don't Have VOIP FSK..........2007-12-06
Great telephone; annoying cradle and message chime. Impossible to use with any VOIP Telephone Service Provider that uses FSK packet sending (specifically MWI - message waiting indicators).
Approximately every 30 minutes or after a message is left in order to signal if there is a new message; the receipt of this packet will cause the Philips SE7452B/37 phones to chime and light up their message waiting indicators. Turning the ringer off or using the "do not disturb" feature does not prevent the chime sound from occurring.
Until Phillips fixes this, you might not want to try it with your VOIP Phone Service Provider, unless you'd like a grandfather clock feature that doesn't keep time well but does a lot of chiming.
My VOIP Provider - VoicePulse Broadband Phone Service, is aware of the problems with this telephone - strangely, the Philips Tech Reps I spoke with were not... too bad, as I loved many things about this phone...!
Highly recommended (Five Stars) if you don't have VOIP (FSK) phone service!!!
Pretty good but not stellar--poor speakerphone.......2007-12-01
Good things:
The sound quality of the handset is excellent. No distortion, very clear.
The phone's software is well worked out, with sensible menus and navigation. Very usable.
Not so good:
Compared to many other phones, the buttons are easy to make mistakes on. I find that many times I think I've hit the button but the phone doesn't. It is very difficult to dial quickly with success.
I bought this phone because as a speakerphone it operates full duplex. It also has claims to excellent sound quality. This is all true, but not very useful due to the positioning of the speaker. On speakerphone, the speaker used is on the *back* of the handset. I think this is what their marketing means by "a real acoustic chamber" (snide remarks about marketing suppressed). If you turn the handset around, the speaker is ok, but the microphone is now pointing away from you. A bad design decision. The base station does have a speaker in it, but this is only used by the answering machine.
good product.......2007-11-24
Phone seems to work very well. Reception and voice quality are excellent. The answering machine may have a little "bug" in it. On the few times I've used it, it sometimes seemed to drop the first few seconds of the incoming message (?). Perhaps I didn't set the outgoing message appropriately, or something (?). Anyway, since I have defaulted to another answering device, I find the phone continues to ring, even after the machine has picked up the call (usually no more than another 2-3 rings). The phone does have a "silence" button to cancel the ring if you know you're not going to pick it up...

Nice but lacking some things.......2008-01-01
I work from home, and am on the phone with a headset between 1 and 6 hours each day. These are the shortcomings from my perspective:
1. Location of headset jack causes problems. The location of the jack is near the bottom of the phone, so that when you put the phone on the base, the headset is in the way. If the plug on the headset has any extra plastic around it, then the phone won't charge.
2. The headset jack is poorly designed. It is recessed into the phone a bit so that if your headset plug has any extra plastic around it then it won't fit into the jack correctly.
3. Feels cheap. The entire back comes off to give you access to the batteries, but the plastic feels cheap and I fear the tabs that hold the back on will break.
4. Delay when pushing buttons. There is a noticeable delay when dialing a phone number. I did not include this in my decision on whether to keep the phone, because it is a very minor issue.
5. Volume range is limited to low, medium, and high. I would have preferred to have more fine grained control over the volume.
6. Same old phone book. It is still limited to one number per name. I much prefer the cell phone style of multiple numbers per name. This does not make it worse than any other home phones I have tried, but I had hoped for more.
Siemens System--State of the Art in DECT Cordless.......2007-12-31
Siemens ten-year track record of marketing these phone systems in Europe shows. The reception is clear. The design is clean and the phone is easy to use. The answer system works reliably. The directions for use and programming are straight forward. Definitely worth the price.
Great phone, Big flaw!!!.......2007-12-20
This would be the perfect phone if you didn't have to deal with the horrible echo that can occur while talking on the handset.
I can't believe Siemens would release a phone with such an obvious problem.
Siemens can do better.......2007-11-23
I had a Siemens 8825 (for a long time) when it first came out, and it was good until few months ago. I ordered this one S455 with few extra handsets as replacement. In some ways it's better than 8825 as it is much clearer and has clock on the handsets. However, it still does not have mute as many of other users mentioned, and somehow the max volume is much lower than what my 8825 can deliver on the speaker phone.
The BMW of telephones.......2007-11-06
This phone, like the BMW I own, is elegant, practical, sophisticated and complex. Neither machine will appeal to those who just want something simple. The extremely well written 55 page instruction manual answers ALL of the concerns raised by other reviewers. But, it takes time, and some intelligence to sort it all out. So does the I Drive on my BMW.
The voice clarity is stunningly better than the 5.8 gig phones I have been using, and I live deep in rural Vermont, with legendarily horrendous phone service. The sophisticated intermeshing of handset and base controls gives me a new appreciation of German logic and engineering. And the range of choices for every other aspect of telephone use is, at least to me, dazzling.
If you are willing to work one half as hard as this phone, you'll be a very happy customer indeed.

Customer Reviews:
If you can afford the very best, this made in Germany phone is it!.......2007-12-28
If you are willing to pay for the very best DECT 6.0 phone system, this made in Germany product line by Siemens is what you want.
This system exceeds expectations. More features than you will bother to learn, yet the basic functions are the same as your cell phone so it is natural to operate.
The black model is advertised as tougher and spill resistant so I purchased the black ones. The only way to actually touch one before purchase was to inspect one in Bon Marche in Paris. There seem to only be web based merchants selling it in the US. Probably because it cost twice the usual Chinese junk sold by the usual suspect brand names.
The Engineer.
Very Disappointed.......2007-12-20
I bought this set to replace my old Siemens set that was damaged in a fire. I was very happy with the original system, but I paid the same price for this set years after buying the first set. Usually electronics drop in price, so I figured this would be a nice set. Wrong! Has much fewer features than the original set. Look elsewhere.
So so phone........2007-11-28
It's a nice phone and all but it's not for me. The phone is way to slow. For example when you're in a call and you have to dial in more numbers for any reason, it tends to skip a few.
Solid phone.......2007-11-24
I am very pleased with this phone. Good set of features solidly implemented. Most importantly, voice quality is great, even on speaker. I have a large home, so range is important. As with previous Siemens phones I have owned, this one allows the handset to pair with and switch between multiple base stations.
I did not have some of the problems mentioned in other reviews--solutions seemed to be in the manual.
Why not 5 stars--I would knock off 1/2 of a star for the headset jack, which seems a bit finicky.
Great phone system.......2007-10-29
The Siemens phones are great. When it was time to retire my original cordless after 10 years of use, I wanted the new system to last as long. I have used too many of the higher GHz phones with their static and short range problems, so the Dect 6.0 sounded worth a try.
These phones have great range. With the base near a window, I can work outside 600' away and still not miss a call. I carry it like a cell phone when I'm working at home. The handset is solid, display is bright, it has assignable ringtones, and the speaker phone has good volume.
I purchased a S455 base with answering machine, E450 base and an E45 extention. At the time I connected each base station to a seperate phone line. Switching between bases is awkward though and it will only accept intercom calls from phones on the same base.
After 6 months of use, the bottom line is, they do everything I wanted and more.

Cool slim phone..........2007-12-30
I wanted this one so bad when I saw one and my old (2 yrs old) Panasonic started going bad (buttons), so I got one.
Nice & cool looks.
Ok reception, works fine in the house, but quality of a sound is not as great as in my Panasonic 5.8.
Sits on the desk by my computer and if I have it charging next to my speakers I can hear interference in the computer speakers (low "humming". Also when call is coming in and handset is near speakers, it sends a buzzing sound tot he computer speakers. None of any other phones I had before did that (900, 2.8 or 5.8), just my Nokia cell.
I give it a "3" just for a very nice looking design.
cheap, poor quality phone.......2007-12-22
In the past I have used nicer Uniden and Vtech phone models, and got used to their good looks and quality functions. The last phone I had was a Vtech 5.8 (the chic long thin model with the color display) but it started dying on me after a year. So I decided to take a gamble with GE, a brand I've never tried, primarily because it looked cool. I got the base unit and then one expandable unit.
The phone worked OK for a while (about a month and a half). Even when it was working optimally, it was just OK, a step down in quality from the others I'd had. I like the buttons, which have an unusual rubbery surface, and the look is extremely thin and sleek, if not a bit light and flimsy feeling. But the voice quality is poor, as is the speakerphone. The speakerphone was extremely quiet, and the speaker is on the back of the phone. Thus if you are trying to type on the computer as you listen to the speaker, you will have to flip the phone on its front to hear anything--which is kind of awkward since the mic is on the front. The phone ring options were limited. Screen display is simple - it's fine, nothing special. There are certain options it doesn't have, which are kind of annoying because I was used to having them on the higher end phones -- ie. when a call comes in and you want to ignore it, there is no button to press on the handset to silence the ringer. You just have to listen to it keep on ringing.
A month or so into having the phone, the reception suddenly tanked. Although I could hear everything the other side was saying, people suddenly had trouble hearing me, getting "dropped" portions of the call almost every few seconds -- as frustrating as a cell phone in a bad reception area. I bought another DECT 6 phone, though, and it's having the same problems, so it might be the DECT 6 frequency. I'm going to go back to 5.8 and see how that works.
But either way, this phone is not thrilling and you will be slightly disappointed in its quality if you're used to nicer cordless phones. Get this if are ok with something REALLY bare bones and basic.
Ultra Slim GE DECT 6.0.......2007-11-26
I like the expandable to 6 and the very slim features. The negatives are related, somewhat. The ear volume and ringer should both be capable of being louder.
HORRIBLE!.......2007-11-15
I needed to replace my old Panasonic 5.8 GHz system due to battery issues with the 3 handsets. My requirements were pretty simple, I needed an answering machine and 3 cordless handsets to use throughout the house. I also wanted the latest technology, cool looks and solid performance. Price was not an obstacle.
I chose this GE Ultra Slim DECT 6.0 system. I purchased the base station and 2 add-on handsets. It's Ultra Slim design was definitely an eye catcher, and is one of the best looking phone systems I have seen. I REALLY wanted to like this phone. Unfortunately the phone did not perform in the most basic of its functions . . . as a PHONE! While in my Office near the base station calls were clear and uninterrupted. As soon as I left that room and wander throughout the house, the handset first became static filled, then eventually began frequently dropping portions of the conversation, rendering it almost completely useless as a cordless phone.
I returned this design and replaced it with another GE DECT 6.0 system, and experienced the exact same problems! I was leary of the DECT 6.0 technology, but decided to give the Vtech DECT 6.0 system a try (looks just as good as the GE Ultra Slim), and it performs tremendously well - better even than the Panasonic 5.8 GHz system it replaced.
CONCLUSION - Vtech DECT 6.0 works well, GE DECT 6.0 system did not in my home.
Decent phone that works.......2007-07-11
QUICK SUMMARY: My 2.4 AT&T branded was starting to drop connections to the base station. Suspecting that the 2.4GHz frequencies were overcrowded I was looking at the DECT (1.9Ghz) phones as a possible upgrade. CallerID is very important to me, as I screen alot. So a full display is critical. The GE does this nicely, with the number and CID info fully displayed. No "scrolling" displays like in other phones. There is a VIP function, so you can assign a "known" CID to an alternate ring. The only feature that I miss from the AT&T is the voice announce of the incoming CID. The answering machine is basic enough for me and is available from the phone or the base station. Visually nice to display with a minimalist design and not bulky like the other units. Voice quality was good on the phone and the speakerphone on the phone was loud enough to hear it easily a few feet away. The base unit always displays the blue "charge" light when phone is in cradle. The base unit can tell when another phone in the house is using the line and will display an "In Use" light. I plan on getting the extension unit when they become available in August'07 so I can use the baby monitor option.
PROS: Attractive slim design. CallerID display is complete and accurate. Good/Average voice quality. No noise or dropped connections. Easy to use.
CONS: Too slim if you are using phone for long periods. Speakerphone is adequate but "volume attack" is noticable at times. No speakerphone on base only on phone.

I Returned This Phone System.......2007-12-31
The graphics are lots of fun and my kids loved the intercom. However, the call waiting does not work at all. You have to hang up on the first call to take the second call. And I couldn't get the message light to work on any of the three handsets I had to let me know that I had received a voicemail message. These are basic functions that an expensive system like this should handle well. I also fund the system to be over complicated. Too many steps to review the call log, add phone numbers to the stored list, etc.
Good cordless phone, but . . . .......2007-12-17
I selected this model as a high quality cordless phone that doesn't have a built in message recorder (I already have a stand-alone recorder that works great!)
The new phone works great, although setting it up with a second auxiliary phone takes very careful following of the directions -- I almost accidentaly reset the base phone ID number, which is ok, except I didn't realize what I'd done and I couldn't recall the new number after I reset it, which would have required a call to the manufacture, if I hadn't remembered the new code number! So, read the manual.
For audio quality and look and feel, this phone is great!
My only complaint is that the built in clock is very inaccurate -- it actually looses about 4 minutes a week! In this day and age of electronic quartz controlled clocks, an loss like that is pretty amazing! It means I have to reset it once a week or so, which is worse than my 100 year old grandfather clock! All in all, a minor inconvenience, but odd.
Underwhelmed.......2007-12-13
I've owned this phone for about eight months and used it on a daily basis. The audio quality is superior to "ordinary" cordless phones, but the range is about the same as my other (non-DECT) cordless phones, and the user interface is poor. When dialing (or entering extension numbers or passcodes), the phone reacts S-L-O-W-L-Y. It will accept digits quickly, but the phone can process only about one digit per second. With relatively poor tactile feedback from the keypad, it's extraordinarily easy to miss a digit. So, hang up and redial -- and the phone insists on a three-second display of the time of the last call before it will even recognize the button that starts a new call. There's something obscene about wistful recollections of those ultra-responsive and -reliable 1972-era Ma Bell specials.
Not your typical throwaway phone.......2007-10-16
I replaced a VTech 5.8 GHz phone with the S450 DECT phone and I'm very pleased with it. The VTech was not effective across a couple of rooms in my house. Note, however, that the VTech did not have the spread spectrum feature, which should improve range. I've had other throw-away phones from VTech, Panasonic, Motorola (2.4 GHz, 900 MHz, 5.8 GHz) and they are all pretty much the same -- designed to fail after a year or so. Batteries are proprietary, and expensive to replace.
The Siemens unit uses two rechargeable AAA NiMH batteries. It is well made and well designed. I'm using it with ATT CallVantage IP phone service. I work at home full time and typically have three to four hours of conference call meetings every day. This phone has very good battery life, especially after I started using Energizer rechargeables. Sound quality is fine -- I use it with a Plantronics headset. With the belt-clip, I can cruise into the kitchen and make coffee while on a call. The phone doesn't cause any problems at all with my wifi network.
Best Phone Ever.......2007-07-02
First of all, I don't understand the person that gave this 1 star. I have tried and returned every other phone I ever bought. But this phone is engineered beautifully. The sound quality on both receive and send is crystal clear. DECT is fantastic because it doesn't interfere with any other wireless frequencies. This is a total full function phone and is even VoIP capable(with an additional module) if you want that. It's expandable with other handsets(I'm about to order one of those). The reception at long distances from the base is also excellent. Now, if you like big huge buttons and heavy phones, this phone is not for you. But if you like modern, stylish, full featured phones with excellent sound quality, etc, then get this. Btw I don't work for Siemens, nor am I affiliated with them in any way, I just like this phone better than anything I've tried, and believe me I've done a lot of research on phones. I've done much more research than I should have had to do because there are so many awful, cheap phones out there. This is a great phone.

Suffers from fade-out. .......2007-09-09
We bought this phone because it supposedly wouldn't suffer from interference from our home wireless system. It didn't - but it did suffer from fade-out, even if you were not moving. Called Gizmosforlife to enquire about the return policy and we're still awaiting an answer. Also sent them an e-mail and I'm awaiting a reply to that also.
Finally a Keeper! Super-Expandable, Attractive, Amazing Range.......2007-06-10
We have a large multi-building home with an ailing old intercom-phone system from 20 years ago ($5000 then). A wireless system would be ideal. I have purchased many systems less than 6.0 and had to return them because of poor range or bad answering machine functions. I am happy to report that this system exceeds our expectations.
I don't mean to confuse you, and it probably does not matter to you, but I purchased this system because it can have multi-modules, which means that you can setup another module on the same line and expand the system with another system. You can have 4 modules, and 6 phones per module, so you can have 24 wireless phones on one line! The intercom would only work on its own module I believe. There are two modules or systems you can buy, one has an answering machine and the other does not. Make sure you get the correct one! They are the same thing except for the answering thing.
Now back to exceeding expectations, the range is much better than any earlier system, so I won't need more modules anyway. I can take the phone all the way to the beach and get clear reception. The system is very very easy to install, and my hard of hearing daughter can hear the rings and the conversation crystal-clear. Also, the units are very attractive and compact, so it can fit in your pocket easily. There are more great things about this phone, but enough rambling from me for now. Thanks Uniden!!!
Great phone!.......2007-05-07
After reading numerous reviews and doing a fair amount of research I bought this phone over several other DECT systems. The sound is crystal clear and the range is much better than any cordless phone I've ever owned. Best thing is that we can run our Wi-Fi system AND the phone system without any interference!
Uniden Dect 1080 6.0.......2007-04-11
Purchased 1 base unit with 5 handset and installed system two weeks ago. The cordless is clear and no interference. One base supports 6 handset and only one telephone outlet is needed for the base unit. All handsets accessing the telephone line through the base unit(much like a CPU). Handset may be programmed to 2 separate base units. This allowed for privacy and no other handset may pickup the line as long as you are using your handset. Any handset may access voice mail allowing the base unit to be located in any room. One handset was returned and exchanged because of charging problem, but the other 4 handsets is fine.
Bravo, Uniden!.......2007-03-27
I just use it for 1 week - till now I'm VERY satisfied: sound and the range are just great, almost no interference or static (much better than Motorola 2.4 Hz I used before); nice, slick and intuitive design; a lot of useful features. The answering machine really does have british accent - and I think it is cool; it looks and feels very good, too! I was able to figure out most of the features without even looking into the Manual (which is not superb). If you have DSL, do not forget to use the filters!!! Altogether, for now it is - 4.5 stars (reliability leaves to be seen, otherwise - 5 stars). Thank you to other people for their reviews of this product - I bought it based that.
Pros: sound; range; look and feel.
Cons:It looks like there is a little glitch with AM in certain mode

Uniden DECT1080-3.......2007-12-21
Uniden DECT1080-3 DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID with 2 Extra Handset DECT 6.0 Cordless
The phone works great. It's loud and clear. I ordered 2 extra headsets for a total of 5. You can name the handsets by their location and make intercom calls to the different headsets. You can enter your phone numbers into one headset and transfer them to the other headsets.
Note: Time is a 24 hr clock and the date is dd/mm/yy so today is 21/12/07.
The headsets only hold 24 digits per entry. So you can not store both a calling card number with the phone number. You can store the calling card number as and entry and then dial the number you want. Per tech support the DECT-2080 solves this problem. 10-10-987 numbers work fine.
Finally a clear phone that holds a charge.......2007-10-03
I have had two problems with my phones over the years. First I have DSL and was getting interferance and second it seems every phone system I get lasts about a year and the batteries start failing. I did a ton of research before replacing my last phone and settled on the Uniden. The handsets have extremely long battery life and range and with DECT 6.0 I get crystal clear reception with no interferance.
I gave it 5 stars just for that, but there are a couple things that keep it from being perfect. The biggest thing I've found is when I'm on the phone and want someone else to pickup another handset and join the conversation there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. It just tells you the phone line is in use and you're locked out. The other is minor, but I haven't been able to clear the "new calls" display...I'm sure there is a way, but I haven't been able to find it in the manual.
Bottom line is the new DECT 6.0 is great and provide awesome clarity and the battery life of 17 hours is accurate.
cross your fingers that you'll never need to call customer support.......2007-10-01
Phone works as advertised, but one of the handset was defective.
The call I placed to their help line is the stuff nightmares are made of: the first time I waited half an hour and the line got disconnected; the second time I had to wait for more then 40 minutes to be finally insulted by an aggressive lady who hang up on me because I had to go and grab the box in the basement (30 seconds flat).
The tird time I was on hold for almost an hour and had to hang up.
I still don't know what to do with the defective handset.
Very good phone........2007-09-27
Use army time. When you set the date use the day of the month first and the month second.Four star's.
Uniden's untypical woes..........2007-07-16
Unfortunately I found a better price locally after my order already shipped. If you are a Sams Club member the price could be as low as $20 less.
Aside from price there are a lot of neat features with the phone. One that could be made clearer deals with the "rings to answer" that you know from other phone answering systems. They call it something else, ring delay. The manual did not explain this and the "ring delay" is set up to pick-up after your choice of 10, 20, 30 seconds... it really didn't make sense, especially having owned another Uniden phone answering system where it was called "rings to answer" and you choose 4 rings or whatever you want.
