5 out of 5 stars Sandisk SDMX7-2048 SANSA C250 2 GB MP3 PLAYER.......2007-12-24

The manuel needs to show or explain the new items of the NEW C250 i,e what was format in the listings and what to do when you install the new SD micro card,it looks like the manuel that came with the product is a cover all for all the c200 Mp3 players.Tech support was great we discuss the manuel also that there should be one for each Mp3 player that explains the product you have and not to guess on how it works!

4 out of 5 stars Great Alternative.......2007-12-23

One of my pet peeves with the ipod is that it doesn't have built in radio. I always thought if you gonna pay so much money to play your own music you can atleast enjoy FM radio. But as an alternative device, I see that the sandisk player is great with MP3's and radio which should be good enough for a music lover that desires a portable device. (the memory card option is also a nice touch) Though the screen resolution isn't that great and making an organized playlist is yet to be discovered...this device is great. I recommend for those of us that don't have "ipod money".

5 out of 5 stars Glad I got this.......2007-12-05

This is the first MP3 player I've gotten for myself. I mainly use it to listen to podcasts and love how easy it is to get my tunes and podcasts onto the player. I also have an FM transmitter/charger for it, so it gets used almost every day when I'm commuting and also when I walk. Made the mistake of getting my daughter an iPod Nano last year for Christmas and it was nothing but a pain. It ended up being stolen out of her locker recently, but this time she'll be getting a Sansa 6 GB player for Christmas to replace the iPod--I'm sure it will be lots fewer headaches for both of us. Now that her brother just let me know he wants an MP3 player for Christmas too, I'm back to Amazon to order a Sansa for him also.

1 out of 5 stars Lots of potential, but is is wasted.......2007-12-02

A great little player and recorder when it works. I am on my third unit as the first two had major issues and would freeze on start up. The problem seems to be in the way that the unit handles either malformed mp3s or mp3s that are encoded with abr/vbr options. The player just doesn't recognize them and will get stuck because it doesn't know to skip things that it cannot see. Lately my player has been not displaying the main internal memory when I connect it to the computer. It will only show the small 16MB partition that you can use in an emergency to restore firmware to the unit. Perhaps that is a bit of an omen that I should pay attention to.

It only likes certain kinds of mini-SD cards. Take a look around on the net before purchasing a 2GB mini card to expand the memory of the unit.

Can be very slow to start up if you use it in MSC mode instead of MTP.

The unit is a great size. Comfortable to hold and use. Audio recording is excellent and perfect for taping classes. Battery life is good considering the size as well. If it were not for the firmware issues, then this would be a first rate product instead of a brick waiting to happen.

4 out of 5 stars Can't be beat when you consider price and features.......2007-12-02

My significant other and I bought two of these at a Black Friday sale for $40 each. Can't beat that.

Had some trouble getting Vista to recognize the unit on both computers, but discovered a trick for that. In the player's settings menu, change the USB setting from Automatic to MSC. When you plug it in, Vista will install the proper drivers. After that, you can leave it on MSC or set it back to Automatic (which you'll want to do if you want Windows Media Player to manage the device).

The included headphones are garbage. Bought a cheap pair of Griffin earbuds and the sound quality is MUCH improved.

Very happy with the player itself. If the USB mode it set to MSC, you can drag albums and songs onto the player from My Computer. You're limited to the single GoList playlist though. I prefer to use it with the mode set to Automatic, which lets Windows Media Player transfer music to the player. Just drag an album to the sync list or create a playlist and drag that--click the Sync button and you're done. Transferring music that way also has the benefit that the player doesn't have to "resychronize database" every time you unplug it from the PC.

The nice thing about using Windows Media Player to manage the device is that it checks to see what you've already transferred. When you sync a playlist, it doesn't transfer duplicate songs. It only transfers the songs that aren't in the player yet.

The user's manual doesn't explain how to use the player very well, but the interface is intuitive and you quickly figure out how everything works. A previous Amazon review commented you can't jump between radio presets. You can, just press the silver select button. For a while, I was disappointed because I thought you couldn't fast forward or rewind a song. As it turns out, you can do so by holding the next/back buttons instead of tapping them. On the whole, the interface is excellent. You can select songs by artist, album, or song; you can select "play all"; or, you can select one of the playlists you transferred. I use it at the gym, so the shuffle option is also much appreciated.

Love the FM Radio function. The reception isn't as good as our car radio, but the majority of local stations come in clear. The gym we go to uses FM transmitters to let people listen to the audio from the TVs there, and I get reception from those in the parking lot. Once you set up pre-sets, just tap the select button to cycle through them.

I thought 2GB of storage wouldn't be enough, but for my needs, it's plenty. I keep a huge music library on my computer, and listen to that at home. For the Sansa, I just dragged some albums onto it and made a playlist containing my favorite songs. Right now, I have 12 albums on there and a bunch of individual songs--nearly 400 songs in total. I have about 150MB left, which will hold 2 or 3 more albums at least. If I get cramped for space, I'll just buy a 2GB microSD card, which should tide me over.

I love the size of the unit. It's small and light, but the screen is sharp and the build quality is solid. My SO dropped hers onto a tile floor in the process of opening the package. A loud WHACK was heard. No cracks, no damage, the player works fine. Advertised battery life is 15 hours. I'm finding I get about 6-10 hours on average. That's fine for me, and it is totally dependent on how long the screen is on. The less time you spend fiddling with the buttons, the longer the battery will last. I don't mind the proprietary USB cord / charger that it came with, since I have three computers, an Xbox 360, and a PlayStation 3 in the house. They all have USB ports to charge with.

Also, the Xbox 360 and PS3 recognize the music on the device, so you can listen to it while you play. The PS3 will actually let you copy music from the device to the machine, or copy music to it. Yes, you could use the player with a PS3 instead of a computer if you wanted.

All in all, extremely satisfied with the purchase. I get most of the features of an iPod Nano at well under half the cost, I don't have to use iTunes or stick to a single library manager, and I can continue to use MP3 files that don't have DRM built into them (the player does support DRM with WMA though, so you're fine if you use Rhapsody, Napster, or Wal-mart's music stores).

5 out of 5 stars Easy player to use.......2007-12-03

We bought this for my 7 year old son who wanted an "IPOD". The price was perfect, and the ease of putting music on it is great. My son, who knows computers better than I, can put his own music on to the player!

1 out of 5 stars terrible - not working right out of the box.......2007-12-03

got product, powered on, no display visable. the sound from the fm radio was nice, but there was no display. spoke with coby customer service, they had never heard of this problem. suggested return to amazon. wont try that brand again.

5 out of 5 stars small but handy the Coby 1GB.......2007-11-07

Being a dinosaur in the download world, I was surprised at how easy it is to work this thing. Had tried my son's iPod and got lost. This was simple. I downloaded from my favorite CD's and have 174 songs on there right now with room for more.

5 out of 5 stars Great small mP3 player.......2007-10-31

I purchased the first one as a gift, then I ordered one for myself. It holds over 8 hours of music. I like the fact that you just have to plug right into a UBS port, a great feature. The sound quality is great.
I am really enjoying it.

4 out of 5 stars It needs an AC Adapter, other than that...........2007-12-20

I really like this device, and for the price, you can't beat it, the only thing I can honestly say about it, con-wise, is it needs and AC Adapter.

Great Little player, other than that.

5 out of 5 stars My Teen LOVES it!.......2007-12-11

Bought this last year for my 16 yr. old and she loves it. She had no problem getting it loaded and running in no time flat (little web ferret!). She uses it constantly, with NO complaints. Still hasn't filled it all the way up with music. Plenty of room. Having it able to charge off the computer is GENIUS. No batteries to worry about. Love it so much, My 12 yr. old is getting one this Christmas.

3 out of 5 stars Sansa C240.......2007-11-29

This proudct does exactly what it is suppose to. It works with windows vista and xp. I also say I used 9,10,11, windows media player and they all worked. I am thinkin about getting an ipod nano instead though for Christmas. I loved it but it is not as good as ipod nano 3rd generation but better than ipod nano 2nd generation.

4 out of 5 stars Nice player, great price.......2007-11-26

Got this for my son's 14th birthday. Very happy once I got one that worked (had to return the 1st one but very easy policy). The player is easy to use with WMP or just drag and drop. Would have liked to be able to recharge battery without plugging into computer but is working fine and has good battery life. The expansion slot is a plus - can really get alot of music on there. Price was great and free shipping is fabulous.
Overall a wonderful value.

4 out of 5 stars Sansa c240.......2007-11-06

This is a great alternative to an Ipod Shuffle. It is about half price and features the same amount of storage, plus a screen (!) FM radio, voice recorder and picture viewer. The pictures don't look great and the quality of the voice recorder isn't as good as it could be, but overall it's a great bargain. 2 out of 5 stars No support for wireless "N" yet.......2007-12-23

Was purchased primarily for wi-fi found out it will not work with "N" but should work with the older versions...... so I wait..
.support was excelent!

1 out of 5 stars Very poor product.......2007-12-21

I bought this during thanksgiving day sale. I loved the fact that this player has Wi-Fi and expandable, using the microSD slot. But none that matters if the player never goes off! Yes, for whatever reasons, after a couple of on/off, downloading a song or two, the player would not power off, it got stuck in the welcome screen. Since it does not have a detacheable battery, I had no choice but to return the item to Amazon. Wish Sandisk had paid more attention to product quality.

5 out of 5 stars Sansa Connect - a Portable, Searchable 'Nabster in a Box' Next Gen Device.......2007-12-21

I went to the store to get an Ipod nano, until I saw this for the first time. Why is this device not advertised? I have no idea - it is the first Ipod Killer. Zune step aside too. If you want an Ipod go get one, if you want a 'Nabster in a box' get the Connect. I got this for under a 100.

Please understand this concept - it includes all the music on the Internet. Think about that. This is the only device that has this out of the box.

All the music you ever need - CD quality.

Searchable, Catalogued, streaming and downloadable. And once you download songs (in the background - you never see a download bar) you can take it to the gym or the ocean.

You can hear the whole song - not a section of it. You don't even need a computer - just a wireless router or wireless connection point at your favorite place. In fact, I have filled up 2 GB of music and haven't yet connected a computer or cable or CD or software program.

If you believe that the musical experience is a trip rather than a known destination, and the discovery of what you like and what is new is part of the experience, then get this player.

If you think you already have all the music you want and plan on purchasing new songs for a buck each from Itunes or another service then get an Ipod.

Like sat radio, this player lets you select a channel of music and listen to it for hours. This is basically like XIM or SIRIUS radio on steriods: Here are some of the channels: 1980s pop, 1990s rock, 1970s soul, 40 years ago hits of 1967, forgotten hits of the 90s, disco, house, dance, brazilian, salsa cien po ciento, latin jazz, classic rock, emo, garage rock, alternative, metal, hair flare, brit rock, goth rock, southern rock, classic soul, reggae, underground hip-hop, east coast rap, hardcore rap, any many many others.

These channels are all CD quality and if you dont like the song hit next and it flips to the next song. If you like a song click save and it downloads it offline for listening when not connected to wifi.

You can also just search for an artist or view recommendations to find music. You can make playlists on the player and see album covers.

I recommend also getting the following accessories for this: Logitech im510 dock speaker, griffin technologies clear case.

The only downside to this player is that it is not more widely adopted.

4 out of 5 stars A Little Gem.......2007-12-11

Let me preface by saying I have a subscription to Yahoo Music Unlimited, so when I saw this little gem for $100, I simply could not resist. I think the operation is intuitive, and I have really ejoyed the option of downloading songs directly into the unit via Wi-Fi. The sound quality is great, and I have had no glitches whatsoever in the operation of the device. Admittedly, I have not tried to log on to commerical Wi-Fi nodes at airports, Starbucks, and the like, but the Wi-Fi works flawlessly with my router at home.

4 out of 5 stars Great value, full of features, but not quite perfect.......2007-12-03

I bought this after my 5th gen iPod 30GB broke, and I have been very impressed. The screen resolution and brightness far exceeded my expectations for an MP3 player, and the interface is as intuitive as my old iPod while looking better than the older iPod. Battery life is as I expected, pretty good with wifi turned off.

Still, the wifi features are pretty amazing. Even if you don't pay for the Yahoo! subscription plan, you can still browse Flickr and the free Yahoo! radio stations. If you do pay for the subscriptions, then getting new music is easy even without a computer.

My only problem is one of software. Getting the device to work with Linux took a lot longer than expected, and I can't manage the subscription music from Linux. Yahoo! Music Jukebox is fairly bloated and resource-hungry, and sometimes gives the occasional error or glitch when trying to use with the Sansa Connect. Windows users with faster systems probably don't have to worry about any of this.

Sandisk seems like it's serious about providing good firmware updates - they've addressed the most common criticisms of this device since its launch, and now boasts new features added in October including logging onto certain types of wifi networks requiring browser login, video playback, and built-in search tools for the Yahoo! Music downloads. I'm looking forward to seeing whether they'll continue to add features (maybe even support for flac or ogg files, video support not requiring their own video converter).

Overall, this player blows away anything else under $100, and even outperforms the more expensive iPod nano, even if you don't use any subscription services.

4 out of 5 stars satisfied with Creative MuVo V100 2 GB MP3 Player .......2007-12-17

This was an early Christmas gift for my 15 year old son. He wanted it to take on vacation so he had something to listen to other than my Christmas music. He plays it everyday and has really enjoyed it. Reasonable price and plays great!

5 out of 5 stars Read on..........2007-12-11

Great little MP3 player for the money. Good player for child to start out with. Battery compartment breaks easily, but rest of the player holds up well.

4 out of 5 stars Very pleased with the product.......2007-11-25

I chose to go with this .mp3 player for a couple reasons, partly because I didn't feel I needed more than 2 gigs for what I was planning on using it for (turns out I was right, too; I have yet to fill it with music), and partly because I don't like the idea of a non-replaceable, rechargeable battery (for me, I think it's easier & safer to just use AAA's).

The only real drawback for me is that there's no AM/FM tuner. Normally I don't listen to the radio but having it would've been far preferable to the microphone this .mp3 player comes with. If you can overlook that then this is a great buy.

3 out of 5 stars Good Product. Basics.......2007-11-19

The product is excellent. The only problem is that it doesn't assign for itself a number for each song when is downloaded to the MuVo. So, you have to assign manually a number to each song. But overall, it's a good produc.

5 out of 5 stars Audio Book Heaven.......2007-11-15

I've owned 3 MP3 players prior to this one. 2 iPods and a Phillip's GoGear. All fancy $200+ units. I think the models of those I purchased were probably great for music... but they stunk for audio books. Problems I had were syncing devices, 3rd party programs, extra cradles, wires..etc.... I'm a computer savy person and it was just a hassle to get new content onto those players quickly...

I came upon the MuVo line via a friend with the 512mb one. I played with it for 30 minutes and was sold. In no time I was able to plug it right into my PC's USB port and XP automatically detected it as a flash drive.... I dumped a medium sized book onto it in about 4 minutes and I hit the on button..... and that was it, it started with the first file and kept on truckin. Now the BIG test.... i turned the unit off and prayed that it remembered where i was at in my book... flawlessly it did :-)

I quickly ordered the 2gig version that holds about 3 books worth of data. I could totally get by with just the 1gig, but... regardless, i've got the extra space if I ever need it.

What I love about the MuVo 100 is it's super simple... there are no wires, it plugs straight into a USB port and I've used it on many a laptop and desktop with no problems at all. I listen to books about 12-15 hours a week.

I 'almost' gave it 4 stars for one little flaw.... you need to pay attn to the battery indicator on the LCD; it's the typical battery icon with 3 cells that start off black... then as you lose battery life a cell disappears... you get the picture. But when you're on your last cell, when you notice the last one go away, replace the battery. If you don't, it sometimes will fail to record where you were at when you turned the unit off and uses your previously timestamped shut off date. The only annoying thing at that point is once you have a new battery, fast forwarding to the where you were at.

No problems with playback. Good size, nice look and easily navigable menus. However, the player does not support the creation of multiple playlists;even if you create folders within it using the "J" drive and drag and drop files. Additionally, file transfer time seems slow using enclosed USB cable

1 out of 5 stars Difficult to deal with.......2007-12-17

I like having so much space for my music, but it is so difficult to download my songs to it. It will go through my list and "error" on many of the songs...without rhyme or reason. And I won't even get into the video portion of the problems. Would not recommend.

5 out of 5 stars elegance and long battery life.......2007-12-18

I am very satisfied with my purchase. I wanted something small, which would fit my pocket, at the same time something elegant and with long battery span. It is very easy to operate because of different sorting options (type of music, artist, album). This mp3 player meets all my requirements.

3 out of 5 stars Almost awesome! .......2007-12-14

I ended up returning this mp3 player, but It wasn't all bad. I'll start off by talking about what I did like about it, before saying why I ended up returning it. I see it's now $70 on amazon, which is a good price (I paid $80).

Good things:
1) I'll start off by agreeing with some of the reviewer here that this is probably THE most elegant looking mp3 player on the market. The blue touch buttons that light up when you press them are a lot of fun. The screen art is simple but elegant too. Easy to read menus and nice scrolling song titles for those long song names.
2) The scroll bar down the center is also a beautiful idea. A lot of people say that they find the touch interface too sensitive (including my wife), but I had no trouble with it at all. After about 5 minutes of using it, I was flying through the menus. The scroll bar can be used to scroll one menu item at a time, or you can swipe it to scroll very quickly down a long list. This is a great alternative to the iPod's wheel thingy, and I found myself just scrolling up and down menus for the fun of it!
3) The sound quality sounded ok to me, but I don't have a set of $300 ear buds to check it with. With my nicer Sennheiser headphones, the bass sounded rich, the trebles clear. That's all I was really after.

Now onto the things I did not like about this mp3 player.
1) The first and main thing was the resume feature. If you turn off the player for less than about 30 mins, it will resume from where you left off. That is, if you're halfway though a song, it'll star playing from that point when you turn it back on. However, if it's off for any more time that that, it will go back to the main menu when you power back on. I have some long 1.5 hour mp3s, so having to fast forward back to the same point in a track is a real pain! That brings me onto another one of my problems with this player.
2) Fast forward (within a track) is very slow! It would take about 5 mins or more to get an hour into a track. It seemed to have big issues with this, I have no idea why. I did a few things to try to fix this problem, first I upgraded the firmware (the software that is installed on the mp3 player itself), and I called customer support. That was another reason I decided to return this player.
3) The website for downloading the firmware was TERRIBLE! It was very hard to navigate, and the instructions for the firmware were very cryptic. They also don't list what has actually changed in the firmware versions, but I gather the only things they upgrade are the Vista compatibility. When I called the support line about the resume problem, I actually called twice. The first time I got a fairly helpful girl, who said that one of their technicians had taken one home and found the same thing, so it's probably a "design feature" which is not on any lists to fix. The second time I got a very unhelpful guy who kept telling me about the power off feature (it turns itself off if inactive for 5 mins or so, which is fair enough), and had no idea what I meant by the resume feature. He even told me that I could send it in, but it probably wasn't worth it!
4) The player doesn't support songs with special characters such as "&". What?!?! I spent quite some time fixing this issue on my mp3s, but when I got to Röyksopp, I refused to change their name just for the mp3 player.
5) This wasn't a problem for me, but if you don't organise your id3 tags (the tags such as track name, track number, artist etc), it will be hard to get the player to play albums in the correct order. I do organise mine, so it wasn't a problem until someone gave me some songs (legally, they were an internet mix) which were played in a random order.

So in summary: This mp3 player looks great! If you just want one for listening to regular music, not long tracks with funny names, it's great. The menus are easy to navigate, and well organised. Philips were so very nearly there with this, and hopefully in the future they'll get sorted with the problems I had. There aren't lots of flashy features, but I don't use the ones on my new mp3 player anyway (Samsung YP-T10 which I'm very happy with). I liked this player, but for my purposes, it just wasn't good enough.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Buy.......2007-12-01

I did a good amount of research before i bought this MP3 player as it is my first. I knew when i bought it that it is windows media player 10 compatible and i have WMP 11 and was willing to downgrade just because of the physical qualities and the price of this player. However i just got it in the mail today and tried to downgrade my system to WMP10 as i've had it before i upgraded to 11 and dont really care for the layout of WMP11. My computer gave me an error that my version windows isnt compatible with WMP10. So, I started transferring music files to the player using WMP11 and it was successful. However i am unable to transer pictures using WMP11. I was really looking forward to transferring some photos onto the player so that's a bummer. I tried to copy and paste photo files into the gogear file but they didnt show up on the player. I will probably try one more time to load WMP10 and see if there's another way to load the photos without WMP10....

That is the only negative experience i've had so far and like i said i knew before i bought it that it needs WMP10. Now, as far as navigation is concerned, I LOVE this player. It's very easy to transfer the songs and the player categorizes your music for you and you are able to create playlists which i havent done yet because i'm still loading up all my music. The touch screen isnt too sensitive, its just right and really easy to use. The player is very slim and beautiful glossy black with really cool blue illumination which is one of the reasons i got it. The sound quality is pretty nice and there are several EQ settings you may use. The back looks like a metal finish sort of like the ipods but its a black finish not silver. The headphones are pretty good too. I wanted a media player that wasnt too expensive but didnt lack in quality and i'm happy with my purchase. There's a lot of hype around IPods but i really wasn't interested in its plain looks. I was also looking at some of the zune players but those too didnt strike an interest for me.

Overall, besides the fact that this player should probably be capable with WMP11 i'm still stoked about the product and cant wait to bring it to work on monday...

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2007-11-09

This is one of the best MP3 i have ever owned it hold a good amount of songs and sound quality is excelent. Oh and by the way the songs a very easy to download using Yahoo Jukebox. This is a must buy.

5 out of 5 stars Superior MP3 player.......2007-09-03

I've owned several MP3 players over the years, including two iPods (a mini and a shuffle), and this Philips thing is the best one yet. Really easy to use, superior sound quality, feels great in your hand and sits well in your pocket due to its light weight. Slick design, shiny black front with beautiful blue LED controls, and a smooth black backside. Makes iPod users jealous because the Philips looks so much cooler than their bland, generic, "everyone-and-their-mom-has-one" style.

3 out of 5 stars Make sure you know what you want it for!.......2007-12-10

The Archos 605 lures you in with it's large, pretty display and relatively low price, then sucker punches you with a horrendous case of buyers' remorse that you're unlikely to encounter often. The price you pay for the base unit is only the tip of the iceberg, you will probably have to spend around that much again to get the functionality you were hoping for. First, no AC adapter is included. Ok, the ipod didn't either, but the ipod doesn't take ten hours to charge for the first time either. After marveling at the pretty touchscreen and menus for the first few minutes, and attempting to use it as a pmp, you may begin to feel that the inconvenience of pulling the thing out of your pocket to change tracks on the touchscreen leaves something to be desired. Ok so 30 bucks or so to buy the remote (I haven't, it disappeared off Amazon and I went back to the iPod). Well, at least you can watch large pretty videos, right? Well, chances are very good that a lot of what you want to watch is disabled in the Archos, so you'll have to go the the Archos website to pay them 20 bucks a pop for every function they built into the thing but are now charging you to use. Now, yes, you could just download every transcoding pack on the internet and spend the next few months recompiling your video library, but it probably won't take much of that before you eventually just head over to Archos and pay them off. And if you got the flash memory version, (which I did because my iPod hard drive failed) SD cards are also available for purchase. I would give the Archos a zero, but it does have such a great display........

2 out of 5 stars Yes, It does all those things, BUT NONE of them sucessfully.......2007-12-01

This player is so dull and boring. It's more for the super geek, no offense, that loves to spend time navigating thru many steps to get what u want. It's not very fun to use at all. It's like a computer expect but a bit more hassle to use. Loading time for pictures was super slow. The only good thing worth mentioning is the screen. It's beautiful. Everything else was average to poor. Video playback was good. Mp3 playback was fair and cumbersome to use.Picture was pretty bad because it was slow at displaying thumbnails.

anyways here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
+Screen wow (800 X 480), loved viewing pictures on this screen!
+Ability to view flash videos, but only sites that uses extension .flv and not .swf. this also means can't play flash games or interact with flash enable websites.
wireless streaming of media from computer, it's works the first time i set it up then stopped., don't know why
+Wifi, but the range is pretty bad

Cons:
-slow picture thumbnail view
-slow slow slow everything
-quite large isn't really pocket friendly
-Plays only certain videos, I must buy plugins in order to unlock the player to play other common video formats
-Broswer costs money($30), when its advertised was wifi
-Takes 8-12 hours to charge via usb, Archos said that their docks charge a lot quicker(4-5 hours) , but you gotta buy it, of course.
-Nothing hip about this device, plain boring device that plays a whole bunch of video formats if you buy the plugins, and plays mp3 and photos.
-No stylus holder, but you can put it in the carrying pouch

Overall, this is not a trash device once you factor in the screen, storage and wifi and all the stuff it's capable of playing once you buy the plugins. However, it's problem is that none of those features are implemented successfully. None of those feature perform like how you would expect them to. The other major flaw with this device is that the GUI does not look very pleasing when you use it and everything seems so slow on this device.

I would recommend this device to only the people to doesn't care about how things perform just want to get the bare essential of the ability to playback various file formats on the device. I would also recommend this for people to watches nothing but movies on their portable device. If you're looking for a music or photo player look somewhere else. This was a return for me. I really like the fact that this thing has wifi, which was one of the reason i kept it for 2 weeks. I'm waiting for something better in the future and probably from another company b/c Archos obviously has no customer support whatsoever and this player was obviously released premature by them.

2 out of 5 stars Bad customer service & lousy web browser.......2007-11-17

I have been using Archos products for several years. But this product upgrade turned out to be a big headache. The customer service and the website to purchase plugin are horrible. Once the product arrived, I went to their website to purchase the web browser plugin. After adding the item into the cart, the currency symbol changed from USD $ to something else which I didn't recognize. I went ahead to place the order and later on found I was charged in Euro (equal to $43 instead of $30) instead. I contacted the customer service, and they insistd I selected the wrong country, which I am sure is not the case. I have tried again and again on my computer and the same thing happens everytime. However, Archos customer service still insisted it was me who made the mistake and finally ignored my emails. I am a software developer and the only thing I can think of is that their website defaults to Euro if the cookie from a cusotmer's computer can not be retrieved. When I decided to stop since no response from Archos any more, the web browser plugin keeps freezing when surfing to certain websites. I don't bother to contact them any more. I am sending it back to amazon and will lose $43 to pay for a lesson: DO NOT BUY ARCHOS.

2 out of 5 stars Overall decent device, but Archos needs to stop restricting potential.......2007-11-02

This includes items about the DVR dock, which I had also purchased.

Cons
- Archos website unnecessarily cumbersome, and not intuitive
- Archos support is nonexistant
- Proprietary plug as an attempt to limit options to Archos accessories
- Without the dock and extra plugins, the device is extremely limited
- Won't play simple MPEG video without the plugin purchase. My camera takes s
