The digital answering machine provides up to 25 minutes of recording time, while a remote message check feature lets you keep track of messages even when you are away from home. Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the E2562 has a 50-number caller ID memory, while a 50-number phone directory provides an easy way to keep track of important phone numbers.
The base unit has a data port which can be used to hook up external devices such as a fax machine. A speakerphone on both the base and handset combine with headset compatibility (also on both the base and handset) to provide hands-free communication options. Handset and ringer volume controls are provided, while an illuminated keypad makes dialing easy, even in dark environments. Pretty good phone for my home office.......2007-12-31
I work form a home office and have both my home line and my office line though this phone. It is true that the phone does not stay on the last line used, if you want to use line 2 you must first choose the 'L2' button. It is also true that the battery that came with my remote handset would not hold a charge and require constant charging. I purchased two new batteries (one for the handset and one for the base unit) and thess new batteries hold a charge much longer and the battery in the base unit keeps the phone working even in a power outage. As for the answering system cutting off messages, I don't use the answering machine option I use Voicemail from my provider so I have not experienced that problem. It has a lot of nice features including my personal favorite, call waiting caller id. I use it with a headset and it's really userfriendly (this also eliminates any concern over what line you are using since you have to push buttons anyway). I have been using this phone for over three years and I'm very satisfied.
The single most import feature is call quality and it is exceptional. One thing I don't see in may of these reviews is a comment about the price and that has to be a consideration when shopping for anything. If the phone cost $400.00 it might only get 3 stars but at this price point and with all the features you get who can complain? At this price I have to give it 5 stars.

I like this phone a lot. I use it for my business.I use a headset, so there is a jack on both the base and cordless unit. The only thing I DON'T like is the manual doesn't exlain things clearly and getting a tech support person is impossible. Its ALL menu's, NO option for a LIVE person, so if you buy this phone and neec tech support or even to help set it up as I had to, click option 1 then option 2 (to purchase a phone) and ask for a tech support person, you are connected right away.

All keys are totally dysfunctional. I tried plugging into a different location after 5 minute gaps and all other options.
CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSE:
They asked me to try plugging the answering machine base into other locations around the house after removing batteries from the cordless units.
Unfortunately I barely ran out of warranty to take advantage of the warranty replacement process.
Please advise if there is a fix for this.
I obviously misspent $199 + $75 for the second cordless unit.

I actually find the sound quality and range pretty good, but I think the system is designed poorly. I can't tell you how many times I have been on the phone and wanted to scroll through my caller ID to get a number for someone I was talking to. No dice, it won't do that. There are a number of issues like that. I can't program it to prefer line 2 to make calls. You may think this is a not a big deal, except I don't like to reveal the line 1 number to my clients via there caller ID. So there went my private line.
Also the belt clip is worthless and after what seemed like hours on the customer support line they want to charge me $5.00 to replace it even though the phone is still under warranty. I'll try a different brand next time.

This phone has exactly what I needed: 2-line corded phone with speakerphone. I like the ability to mute both the speaker phone as well as the handset. The adjustable volume is also a nice feature. The price is great, too. The audio quality seems fine to me. Plenty of volume and no unusual distortion.

The add says espresso. The phone box says espresso. The phone is black. Called J&R. All phones that are marked espresso are black. I have not used the phone so I can't evaluate the quality but, for reasons on my own I needed a brown phone. J&R were fair in handling the matter. J&R said that they are changing the ad.

We bought this system for our small office and loved it for about a year until we got DSL and then the entire system went haywire. Apparently, the system uses the same frequency as DSL and you have to order a special splitter and have your phone company install it for you to correct the problem. Well I spent 2 hours on the phone with At&t arguing with them before they would even agree to send me a splitter and then an hour on the phone with Bellsouth explaining what I needed them to do. Repairman came out, crawled the house, etc and apparently it's not going to work any way we do it. So we wasted our money on this system and now have to replace it. So be careful...

I bought this phone mainly because I wanted a model that had numerous speed-dialing buttons and a decent speakerphone. Thus far, I am very pleased with the model. The 945 is a 4-line phone designed for office use, but it works great as a home phone. It has 16 speed dial buttons located on the right side of the phone. This makes it a snap to call family and friends by just pushing two buttons - one for speakerphone and one for the number. The speakerphone seems to work well and I also like the green backlit lcd display, which generally looks cool but also makes the phone easy to use in the dark. It also displays the date, time, number dialed, and phone call length, useful for keeping track of how long an interesting (or not) conversation has been going on for. Phone preferences can be set by an easy to use on-screen menu system and there are also a bunch of ring tones to choose from, which I appreciate because I have chosen a lower frequency tone that is so much more pleasant than the typical high-pitched annoying telephone ring my last phone had. Be aware, though, that Caller ID isn't supported on this phone.

Whenever a line is in use, the line-in-use indicator lights up on the other phones. An automatic call privacy feature allows only one 954 phone at a time to use a line. Users can cancel call privacy to allow others to join in on the call, obviating the need to employ the conference feature for participants within the same office. Call privacy is restored when you end the call.
The 954 provides all the options you'd expect to find in an office phone. The intercom allows you to call another 954 phone in your office without using an outside line. Bought 4 phones 2 years ago but now one phone's intercom rings automatically and when that phone is unplugged, other phone intercoms dont work. Also other phones can now "listen in" on conversations. Not a quality phone for a business.

i purchased 5 of these phones for my New Jersey office from my telephone wiring contractor CROWN TELECOM SERVICE (732) 681-3903 and they are a dream. they were up and running with a little programming.
Easy to use, cheap, and have big system features like intercom, page, hold, LCD display, etc. Phone systems cost thousands of dollars for the same features.
Don't fall for the big system hype. Have these installed and save yourself alot of money!

I purchased 4 of these phones for my small business. They are terrible. While everyone in technical support admits I have tried everything to get the phones to work they do not. I can talk on them but if I put a call on hold and pick it up at a different extension the customer can't hear us....we sound like a Mickey Mouse organization....Avoid these phones no matter how nice customer serivce is they can't help.

I own 4 AT&T 944 telephones, 4 AT&T 955 telephones, and 4 AT&T 964 telephones since the first day on the market and I have NEVER had ANY problems with ANY of my telephones! I know that I can't say my true feelings on your sickening reviews, but I can say that your reviews are sad and angering, and maybe if you would read the manual FULLY and maybe called a telephone engineer, you would not need to bash AT&T. I LOVE MY AT&T 944 955 AND 964 TELEPHONES!

Very disappointed with the performance of this phone from ATT. Speed dial is useless, you need to press so many keys it is easier to look up the number. Caller ID only works on one line at a time. The keypad locks up once in awhile and requires pulling power from the phone to make it work again. Sometimes the phone "senses" a call waiting and mutes out the caller's voice for a few seconds at a time. And the last is the best; when answering a line, the phone will sometimes (not often) conference another line in and I get to speak to my customer on one line, and we both listen (at the same time) to a loud dial tone from another.
Final opinion: A hand crank phone is better (we have more than one of these phones, so these problems are consistent). After 6 months of ownership we used these phones for target practice and purchased GE phones. Now they make good phones!!
Flat out....these phones suck!!!!.......2004-08-23
We purchased 3 of the AT&T 955 phones for a small business. After about a week, they all have had their quircky problems.
1. One of the handsets broke, luckily they actually sent me a new one.
2. Occassionally when you pick up line 1 line 3 lights up (seems to be a common problem).
3. The lines "hum" periodically. After contacting the trouble shooting desk, they recommend I get the jack replaced,well, it still does it.
4. They do not work well with cordless phones, the lines do not release, unless you do it manually.
I am in the process of returning these and getting something else, they ARE NOT DEPENDABLE.

Guys, I've owned this phone now for one year and let me tell you that this phone has constant problems. Sometimes when I press the number one line, both the number one line and the number three line will light up!! That's right, two lines come on at the same time!! I regret the day I bought this thing.

I have 2 AT&T 955 telephones and 6 AT&T 944 phones in a 2 story house. I purchased some new and some used from various sources in 2002. We had to return one phone when it was new, but all the others worked. We like several of the features *very* much (paging, especially) and wouldn't consider switching to other phones at this time but we've definitely had our share of problems. Two handsets which originally worked no longer work (and it's not the handset). We put them in rooms where the phone isn't used often and just use the speakerphone. We also have 1 phone where the display gets garbled. If you briefly unplug it from power, the display corrects itself but messes up again after several incoming calls. When you page a phone, it automatically uses the speakerphone. My son's phone recently started humming until he picks up the handset. Until he does, I can't hear him, but he can hear me. We have almost double the length of phone wiring that these phones are supposed to support so we're pleased the system works as well as it does despite the handset and display problems we've experienced with multiple phones.
ATT 964 AND ATT 955.......2004-05-10
We bought 2 phones for our home office on march 23. 2004. The 2 phones have been returned 7 times. Today, we will get full credit from Staples for the phones:
Problems 964: Bad handset . New unit actually was a repakaged unit in the box with a factory seal. Caller ID failed. Did not record calls. Had to reset numerous times. Got a replacement unit. This was a new factory sealed unit.
Seemed to work fine. tried to use the conference feature tieing 2 lines together. Put a loud hum in the lines so no one could talk or hear.
Problems 955 Seemed to work fine out of box. After 1 week. the speakerphone failed. Everytime used, had a loudfeedback noise into the line in use. Replaced phone. New phone had caller ID failures.
( When I was at the store doing a swap, ran into another customer who was also having problems. These phone are pure garbage. For an analog multiline phone, these are the
WORST I have ever owned..
Replaced with used Nortel Venture 3 line phones. Work great..

I think this phone was designed by people who either never used a phone, or hate people who do.
The circuit board inside the phone began to fail almost immediately near the headset jack. There is a delay from when you pick up the phone to when the first tone is generated. It doesn't play well with other phones - when I get a call and tell someone else in another room to pick it up, the ATT phone apparently generates some sort of tone (probably used for their intercom system by other ATT phones) that keeps people on other phones from using the line. Oh.. and the caller ID stopped working.
The overall user interface is poorly designed.
All the buttons on the left side of the phone surface just stopped working, so I need to buy another one. Of course, I would never buy another ATT phone - the problem is that aren't that many 3 or 4 line phones with caller ID available. But the next one won't be ATT.
Voicemail/answering system poorly designed and often quirky.......2007-06-09
The answering system gets confused if you try to replay the previous message during playback. And once you listen to all new messages, you have to listen to old messages in reverse. So if I don't catch all message number 2 out of 69, then I have to listen to all 69 messages before I can go back (hitting the "Backward" button while it's playing just confuses it). But say I save 20 of those messages (don't delete them). I have to go backwards through those 20 messages just to listen to message number 2 again. Maybe my phone has a manufacturing defect or maybe it's just bad design, but either way I'm getting rid of it. Unforunately there aren't too many options for business phones with the same features. Gheeze, doesn't anyone sell a decent desk phone with a headset jack and a answering machine for around $100? Even for $150 I'm hard pressed to find one with an answering machine built in.
Not happy with phone or seller.......2006-11-01
This phone has all the features that I want. It also has a feature that I DON'T want! Whenever there is a power interruption...you lose everything!
Almost all settings and directories! It has a battery back-up...but as far as I'm concerned, it don't work. It also must a chip..because very vew of the settings survive a power failure. (unimportant things like the area code survive). I now have to spend an extra $50.00 getting an AC battery back-up for it. I really give it a "1"
As far as the seller....I contacted Stratton products (seller) asking to send it back and they never responded, I give them a "-1"
Intercom doesn't work on my wiring.......2006-01-10
One of the nice concepts of this phone was the idea of using it as an intercom. I have a huge house, and it's nice to be able to intercom someone in their room instead of going all the way over there each time.
When I plug two of these phones directly into each other, the intercom works as advertised. But over my house wiring the intercom functions don't seem to work. It just sits there beeping at me like I did something wrong.
Can't comment on the voice mail problems - I've never tried them.

Everything wrong cited in the earlier reviews is true. The poorest quality at the highest price--shame on you AT&T. Based on my experience with this product, I will never purchase an AT&T branded anything.

The discription of this item was not clear. I needed adapter for three phones in one room. It said it was a four line outlet adapter but would not fit in the phone wall jack and had only two cord outlests. I had to purchase another adapter.
Bigger than Nomal.......2006-08-18
The only issue I have with the product, I cant plug it in the phone outlet, its actually bigger than the outlet for some reason. Maybe I missunderstood the 4line connectiong meaning is bigger???
I think this is a Network splitter, since its bigger and NOT a phone outlet splitter

Got this to go with my E2662B setup and I will most likely be buying more if I can find them.
This cordless phone system is simply the best I've ever come across and I've had a few Unidens, Panasonics, GE's, Sonys, and others. It is missing a few features found in some other phones, but if you don't need to share your phone book with all the extensions it's all good.
Battery charge life is so-so, but not a problem unless you spend most of your life on the phone.
SQ is crystal clear and rage is quite amazing. I can walk almost 1/8 mile from my house and maintain clarity.
Buy this phone system before it becomes unavailable!!
