I's say it's just OK. For the price, $30. But you can probably do better. Main problem is it communicates with you only by voice (I mean settings,etc.). That's mighty peculiar, since it has it's keyboard and enough display space to take input far more conveniently.
To make or change or reset something after a power loss, the voice goes through every setting in a fixed sequence, so you have to listen to all the ones you don't care about and want to leave alone. Then when you do want to change something, like the minutes on the clock, you have to press a key repeatedly to get increments one minute at a time, instead of just keying in a number.
There are two 3-digit codes (Remote Access, Priority Caller) it has to ask you about one digit at a time. Again you increment that digit one press at a time: for the first digit, then for the second digit, and so on.
What takes the cake though, is the strangest time format probably in the world: You set it to this, for instance: Sunday, 10:43 AM, 2007. The day of the week and the year! No Month or Date! There ought to be a quirky prize for that.

This phone is quite nice and reliable. The only thing I miss from my previous phone is the multiple, individual voice mail-boxes.

easy enough to use and program, this phone is cheap and basic. I really was hoping the speaker phone would work well. The volume is loud and clear so it succeeds on that point. However, if I'm farther than 2 feet from it people complain that i'm quiet and hollow sounding. if you use speaker all the time, look elsewhere.

This phone has worked well over the last month since I purchased it. The memory dialer is easy to use and program. The speakerphone is clear and easy to understand. I was looking for a phone to replace an older AT&T brand phone with similar features, and this was the closest I could find. It is getting harder and harder to find nice corded phones with so many folks switching to cell phones only.
The only negatives are that the phone requires batteries for the functions and it would be nice if caller ID was included.

I recently bought this phone for my father who likes his phones simple and easy to use. This telephone by AT&T works better than other, much fancier phones, including two expensive cordless phones with extra handsets, when I had to get a new phone for my new home. The construction of this telephone reflects great engineering; and it's very, very reliable for a price that's very inexpensive these days for a phone. Yes, it is corded; but when all you really need is a basic phone this really does the job.
The phone has back lit buttons which are desirable for those of us who are elderly or in any way sight impaired. The buttons could be brighter but the back lighting does improve upon no lighting. The phone offers well known features including "last number redial," and allows you to set the phone up with your telephone company so that you can use this phone with features like call waiting and three way calling. The phone has a mute feature, adjustable ringer volume and more. These functions never disappoint me. It also has a small knob that lets you switch between touch tone and pulse (rotary) dialing. I use touch tone dialing as most people do. I am particularly impressed that a phone in this price range even has a twelve number memory feature for speed dialing. Cool!
If you want to take a nap without the phone ringing, just turn the ringer off by using the knob at the base of the phone.
I highly recommend this telephone for people who need a basic phone at a cheap price that still has a few "frills" to like including memory speed dialing and call waiting. The extra features give you all you truly need to make this a well constructed telephone at a ridiculously inexpensive price. Sure, the back lighting for the buttons on the phone could be brighter; but overall this is still quite a good phone for the price. The phone takes up little space and it can even be wall mounted to completely save counter space in a kitchen or any other room.

All the buttons don't lit evenly, because there's only one small light source. Second, the buttons are not the soft translucent pads. They are gray hard plastic. The whole unit feels light and made of cheap plastic. No metal reinforcement. Sound quality as usual.

I purchased two of these phones, one for my Mom, and one for me. My mother is elderly, so I bought this phone for her because it has three buttons on the top row of the keypad especially for emergency numbers. Also, since it has a programmable memory, she can easily access family members cell or home phone numbers. This particular A T & T model phone has always proven to be reliable and long-lasting, so I know my money hasn't been wasted. They last much longer and the quality of sound is much higher than most portable phones.

The phone was disappointing. It is very difficult for people to hear me and it sounds like I'm talking into a dead phone. I find that I'm yelling to have a normal conversation which is aggrevating. Positive points are that the numbers are large and it is easy to get up and running. I need another phone for my house and I would not purchase another and I would not recommend this model to friends.

I purchased this item for my almost 82 year old mother, who refuses to wear glasses to see the CID. She also has to have the phone so loud in order to hear things,although she swears there is nothing wrong with her hearing. This phone has a voice alert that announces who the caller is and although some of the announcement tends to be garbled, or should I say over pronounced, it is adequate in its purpose. The numbers are large enough so that you can dial without getting glasses and is great for those with arthritic fingers. It is easy to use and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a little help seeing who is calling.

So far the phone is working great. Audio boost is useless though. It causes too much static when on but volume is loud enough without it. I also don't like the fact that there is no battery backup on the base. If the power goes out you have to reprogram it. Otherwise the phone itself is fine.

Good phone, but deceptive pictures.......2007-11-07
It is nice to have a corded phone with caller-id built in. But the caller-id screen is not lighted or backlit. The picture clearly shows it is, but it is not and this is very irritating. You cannot see the caller-id unless you have another light on. For the price though it is still a pretty good deal. Do a search for 'bedroom phone' and you will see a few that are backlit/lighted, but they are quite a bit more expensive.

what can i say? i am home sick so decided to order my "in case of emergencies land line" online. the phone is slim and stays out of the way, and for all intensive purposes works...somewhat. you have to play with the cords so there isn't a constant static. whomever calls you can hear you just fine, however, you will endure sporatic static on your end. the caller id works just fine, and like most individual units, blinks when you have a new call. the ease of use for setup and everyday function make this phone user friendly.

Its a great product ...but just because of the brand name that Plantronis carries ....it comes at a premium. I bet this would be costing them less than half this price or even less make a profit ...but yet the price.
Neverthless a excellent product ..I own 2 of them the wireless CS55 and then this one. Both of them are pretty good.

I am on the phone for 6 hours a day on my workdays, making appointments for people and typing constantly on the computer. This system has really saved my neck!!!!
I have had the product for about a month. I would have given this 5 stars, but do not like the optional over the ear piece that comes with it (I have really small ears), so I have to use the over the head type. The ease of following the directions to install and making that first test call were right-on. I have it set on the lowest audible setting and talking volume and have no problems hearing. Luckily, I also have volume control on my phone, so I am able to adjust it just right, otherwise, it may be too loud.
As for taking up too much room, well, comes with the territory, since I have to use the phone that my company provides for the transfer and hold buttons as well as voicemail, but, once I have the headset on, I push the base and the handset from the phone out of the way. I also saw someone mention that it is flimsy when kids play with it, well, duh, most electronic devices do not hold up well with kids, talk to their parents or correct them yourself, you have that right to protect yourself!!!

I have been a headset user for over 10 years and this has been the most reliable one I have owned. The sound quality is excellent and controls are easy to operate and intuitive. I am frequently on conference calls and the S12 provides a great way to mute your line and stay on the call. The red light lets you know when you are on mute and with the touch of one easy to see button, you are back on. Many current headsets have uncomfortable ear pieces, this one is old school comfortable. My favorite feature is the red blinking light on the opposite side of the mic when on an active call. Basically it tells people who come into your office that, `yes I am on the phone' and not just wearing a headset for fun.
I have used the S12 for many years now and highly recommend for power users.

I purchased this phone and an extra handset about a month ago and am very pleased with it. My only complaint is that it is described as being able to be wall mounted, but I can't see any way to do it. I kept it and put it on my desk instead of on the wall in the kitchen where I wanted it, and mostly use the two handsets.

I was looking for a good quality speakerphone and found one! This phone has clear quality on speaker. It has a great number of features. Having the remote handset is an extra plus. The speakerphone on it is not as good as the base, but still acceptable. The only thing I would want on the base is that the display would remain lighted, since it is plugged to an AC source. Also, you can choose different ringtones for different callers on the handset, but you can't on the base. What's up with that? But overall, I am satisfied with the phone.

The Uniden TRU9488 is exactly what I've been looking for in a phone system. It gives the user the freedom of a cordless phone and the security of a corded phone. Living in an area where power outages are no rarity, that's a real plus. The sound quality on both the corded base unit and the cordless handset is crisp and clear, and the user-friendly menu walks the user step-by-step through the numerous customizable features. There's no interference with my wireless network or my two Panasonic KX-TG5622 cordless phones. One minor detractor is the lack of a lighted keypad on the base unit. On the upside, the cordless handset does come with a lighted keypad. This is definitely a five star product in my book.
