The sound quality is below expectation.......2005-04-10
This is the second try to attach a wireless transmitter to my mp3 player. The SIIG modulator has a nice concept with double use in the car with a cigarette power adapter, or in the home attached to a computer with USB; no batteries are required. Istallation is easy, less than one minute. You need good eyes or a magnifier to set the modulator's frequecy using the onboard microswitches. The sound quality is poor. There is a constant background noise that can't be eliminated (static). The FM modulator cannot handle the full audio spectrum, the frequencies are truncated and the result is a flat sound, rich in static. I tried different combinations of the mp3 player volume and equalizer settings to improve the S/N (signal to noise) ratio on reception. If the mp3 volume is high, the result is a disturbing over-modulation noise in the low frequencies (like speakers with broken membrane); if the player's volume is low the S/N is degrading again, the sound is replaced by static.
If you accept 50% of the quality of a regular FM radio station and a song to song adjustment of the mp3 player's volume for the best S/N zone, this product is for you.
I returned this modulator just like the previous one, in the same day and I promised once again do not touch FM transmitters for another year.
Horrendous.......2004-10-28
The sound quality of this device is absolutely horrible. It does work, and you get something through your radio that you can make out as music. Even a tape adapter is MUCH higher quality thatn this thing. If you're even remotely serious about music, forget it.
Now that I see it in person, the USB design is pretty dumb. So, don't consider it a selling point.

I was a little nervous after reading some of the previous reviews about the poor sound quality but a business associate had this exact device on a trip in Florida and it worked great. So, I took a chance and bought this device for my wife for Christmas anyway. She uses it with her Palm to play MP3s on the car radio. So far the sound quality is excellent and she loves it! I almost bought a similar battery powered Belkin device but since it was going to be used in the car, I liked the idea of pluging it in instead of worrying about batteries.
We took the device out of the package, plugged it in, tuned the radio to the default station of 88.9, and it just worked. This product is great and has exceeded my expectations!
Very Poor sound quality.......2003-12-30
I purchased one in Dec 2003. When it was used in the car, it never produce quality sound with all the channel selection. It always has noise in the background which can not be removed. The channel selection is very unconvenience, you would need to keep the channel list, and adjust on and off accordingly every time you want to change the FM channel to get better sound.
I was first attracted by its USB appreance. Do not buy!

Have tried using MP3 player and Sirius Satellite Radio. Key is to use the best open FM frequency and maximize the output settings on the input device - seems to work just fine then. Had the "underwater" affect on the MP3 player until we cranked up the volume - then all was well. Not bad for under $30.
