Ooma Hub - Great VOIP Machine.......2007-12-21

I have had the Ooma Hub and Scout for close to a year now. It is great. It works well and unobtrusively. I have had no complaints about machines' and Ooma's service reliability. The telephone sound is clear and sharp. I like that you can go over your messages on the net and edit them there; it is such a great convenience, though sometimes it jams and I don't know if it is a web browser/anti virus/firewall/anti spam compatibility problem (I should call tech support, but I am too lazy). Installation was easy. My favorite features: the second line... so helpful as I have a teenager... the ability to conference call... great for calling grandmother... above all, there are no monthly charges.

I am extremely happy with it. Oh, it doesn't hurt that it looks really good too, though mine is usually out of sight, behind a pile of papers. So if you are looking for voip service, I would strongly recommend you look very closely at OOMA.

Oooma is awsome. You are able to quickly make up the upfront cost of the ooma box and associated ooma scouts. Clearly the money that you save on long distance pays for the system many, many times over. GREAT customer service and easy set up. A great gift for any family member & something that will provide any "techie" a new toy. Very easy to understand instructions for installation and clear and concise online help. GREAT PRODUCT.

SOHO loves the Ooma.......2007-12-21

Being a 'one man band' and using the office in my home for my design and engineering business, I needed to manage my phone service better. Then Ooma came along and overnight my issues were solved. Immediately, I got the 2nd phone line with message service I desperately needed. My monthly bill dropped substantially, and being able to listen to my messages from any Internet connection anywhere, I am able to respond in near real time to my clients. Plus, long distance calls are no longer cut short because I'm worried about the cost.

The service doesn't conflict with any of my Internet operations, and actually looks pretty cool sitting on my desk with the other techno googaws.

I was very interested in being able to fire my phone company that was charging me over $60 a month for umlimited Domestic calls. True, having to spend the initial $399 plus $40 for the scout was a bit hard to swallow.

I was not clear on the technology behind the Ooma but the promise of umlimited free phone service sold me (even if free means only for 3 years I still look to save over $1,900). Frankly if this thing worked I was going to be happy.

Although setup was a little more difficult than plug and play, I had it working within 20 minutes after a call via my cell phone to the help desk. Seems the number they gave me and configured to the Hub to did not work in my area code.

After that thought it simply worked. I purchased 1 additional scout and have it on a desk phone and have a V-tec Wirerless base hooked up to the Hub with 3 wireless phones so I can have a phone in every bedroom. The second line feature is great as well as the do not disturb feature.

Okay, why not 5 stars? Well I was a bit disappointed to learn that they did not offer phone numbers with my area code. I was not told this when I placed the order. Its not a deal breaker but a little confusing to explain to the grandparents why they have to call a number they associate with Richmond, VA to call across town in Chesapeake, VA. So if this is a problem for you be sure to ask before you buy.

Fee-Free Phone That Works Great.......2007-12-17

After a few weeks using the Ooma I have to say I'm very impressed. Anyone who regularly talks on the phone should seriously consider this as an alternative to regular landline or Vonage-type services. Yes, it's an expensive investment, but the long-term value is great. Pay once up front and talk away without ever paying another cent unless you need to call overseas. That's a much better deal than the $50/month plans the cable companies are rolling out.

Ooma is worth it because it works great. Super easy setup and the call quality is top-notch, even better than Skype, which we also have in the house. The fit and finish of the hub is also a plus. This is a high quality product. All you need to add is a phone or phones.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that phone number selection is not possible and it's not yet possible to port your existing phone number when you want to shut off whatever service you were using before you got the Ooma. That's supposedly coming soon, but as of this review it's not yet available.
