They work as intended, they split the wiring and use the unused pairs to allow two devices to use one data jack. You need a pair of them and put one on the other end to take the split pair and connect to two ports on a switch or hub. It is not a 2 port ethernet switch and will not magically connect two devices to one data jack without any changes in your data closet (or other end). It saves you from pulling new wiring in the walls is all. What do you want for < $10?

First off, I think some people are confused about the usage of this product, which may explain some of the negative reviews. This product does not magically turn one Ethernet port into two, this isn't possible without a hub or switch. What this product does do is allow you to run two Ethernet ports over a single Cat5/Cat6 wire by utilizing the normally unused pairs for the second link. In order to do this, though, you either need two of these units or you need to do some custom wiring elsewhere.

I've used several of these in wiring my house where I didn't want to have to add a second run of Cat6. I've used them for both running two Ethernet links over a single run as well as for running both telephone and Ethernet over the same Cat6 run. They work just as I expected without any discernible loss in signal etc.

As another reviewer said, this item is a great way to get more mileage of existing wiring while providing a clean install that doesn't require a bunch of special wiring. All-in-all a simple, yet excellent, product.

I just used ten of these to get extra mileage out of existing wiring in a small office. Beats spending the time to make them yourself.

this item did not meet my expectations for its intended use. the intent of application was: to operate 2 ethernet devices from 1 active line. one side is active, the other, dead. do not get this item for this purpose, get an eternet hub or believe it or not, a wireless router will work.

A front-panel switch set during installation determines which of the three FORMAT-A pairs feeds the module output.
