It's brighter than the regular bulb. It focuses to a spot and also to a wide flood. It uses much less energy than the regular bulb. It is awesome!
Some differences - first of all, I think the incadescent bulb focuses slightly better, but honestly, the LED is quite superior in every other respect.
The LED has a slight blue tint whereas the incadescent has more of a yellow tint.
The combination of a Maglite with an LED bulb makes a pretty awesome flashlight. I think a much better value than a ShureFire.
I also bought a 3 watt LED AA Maglite as well as the 1 watt LED upgrade for my other AA Maglite. Love them both.

the ease to upgrade this product was fantastic. my son is very safety conscious when he does his extreme kayaking and needs the mag lite for just that purpose. the upgrade option was a great idea, instead of purchasing a whole new instrument

The LED Upgrade Module is an easy install -- just pop out the old Mag bulb and install the module. What a change! My 2C Mag is much much brighter and the battery seems to last longer.

With 2 2 D cell Maglites I needed some replacement bulbs and wanted to add the Xenons. In the past I haven't been happy with any LED flashlight I've found. UNTIL NOW. After reading the reviews I decided to try one of these, and get the xenons as well. Side by side, the Xenons don't hold a candle to this. The light is white, not yellowish like the Xenons. This thing is amazing. Now I have to figure out what to do with all these Xenon bulbs.
