This unit is extremely compact, yet gives good sound and volume. Good battery life. Charges ipod when used with A/C adapter. Nicely designed. Altec Lansing has corrected the complaints I had with an earlier model.

this was a gift for my daughter and she was very please to receive it. had some alligment problems when attempting to use adaptor for here Nano. very dispointed. currently its useable and making attempts to get some correction to the problem.

A good item to have for traveling. It is small when open and folds up for easy transportion. Keep in mind, it is not a whole house stereo. Just a way to listen to music in a smaller setting. And it works well for this. Follow the instructions for actually turning the unit on and it makes a good player for a hotel room. The music is clear and it beats the standard clock radio usually found in a hotel room. Just don't expect this item to do what it isn't designed to do.

The sound quality of the IM3c is very good at the mid to low level. This speaker system is solely used in my office, so cranking it up too loud is not an option. Its compact size makes it easy to place virtually anywhere. One feature I really like is the volume stays the same after turning the unit back on after it has been shut down, unlike the "JBL On Stage".

Just what I was hoping for.......2007-08-24
I'm impressed with this little thing. The case is well-made and has a very solid feel. The Nano fits perfectly into the skin and into the MiniBlaster. I didn't have difficulties with the fit like others mentioned. Getting the Nano out takes some pushing, but that's the way it should be. You don't want it falling out on it's own and hitting the pavement. All the Nano controls are accessible. The front, circular control (volume/scroll) works fine through a silicon skin and is very protected.
The reason we buy this thing is for sound and size. Size and weight are impressively minimal. You won't beat that anywhere. As for sound, it's not a home entertainment center or a Bose IPod system - it's a tiny little device that offers maximum portability. If you can bring your Bose system along with you, then do it. If you need something small and more portable, then read on.
The sound has a distinct clarity. Mids to highs are crisp and well separated. What you loose is bass. It's attenuated, but not dull or muddy. I wasn't expecting strong bass with a frequency response of 450Hz to 20KHz. It's not built for it and shouldn't be expected.
It's made, as others have said, for you and a couple of friends in an environment without too much ambient noise. If you are looking for a system that you can play at a beech party with a big group of friends, keep looking, because this isn't it. Too many voices chatting away will drown this little thing out.
In a reasonably quiet room or out on the trail, you get enough volume to really enjoy the music. It's loud enough to hear the detail in the sound. It even gets too loud for conversations and has to be turned down. Don't get me wrong, the neighbors won't be calling or stomping on the floor. It has what it needs to fill the niche that it's designed for.
I personally like the sound with the EQ set to "Small Speakers" - seems like a good balance for Classic Rock which I tend to listen to the most.
If you want a small, light and very portable speaker system to free you from headphones and make portable music a social experience between friends again, then you are onto something.

Great for use while traveling.......2007-08-11
I wanted to be able to listen to podcasts and my own music while commuting and so first purchased (for $80) an FM converter that plugged into the lighter and my iPod and then matched an unused frequency to play what was on the iPod. The sound wasn't great and it changed depending on where I was driving. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right static frequency and match it with the device. In the short time that I tried it out I had to switch frequencies twice.
So, I looked for a speaker. I decided that it wouldn't be a disaster to buy something at this price to try even if it didn't work great. It was what I was looking for! I can use it in the car and also other places where I want to play what is on my ipod so that others can hear. It is not great sound quality, but it is much better than what I was getting with the FM converter and much easier. I can either use batteries or the AC adaptor (I already have a device that converts the cigarette lighter into AC power).
It is a great solution for what I was looking for.

Don't expect too much bass out of -any- tiny speakers but as a way to turn your nano into a sort of 21st century "transistor radio" equivalent with stereo audio and a better sound quality, this little thing is superb. Talk radio podcasts are delivered very clearly and music can be enjoyed to an extent especially if you choose an appropriate EQ setting on your nano. Volume capability is decent, just don't expect to entertain an audience bigger than about two or three. Battery life is good for the 4x AAA batteries.

The sound is good from the Miniblaster, but getting my Ipod in and out of it is a real chore!! It is very difficult to do. It not only is very hard to place in the miniblaster, but getting it out is even worse. I like the size of it as it doesn't take up a lot of room when I place it on the counter. Just difficult to use. It is also hard to adjust the volume with the "skin" on it.

I bought the miniblaster portable speaker in December 2006. I was amazed at the quality of the sound for such tiny speakers. Now, almost one year later, the speakers are still going strong. If you are looking for good quality pocket size speakers, these are a good choice.

My 11 year old daughter saved her $$ and did some on line research and ended up buying these. She loved them for the size which allowed her to take them into bed, on the bus etc. The audio in my opinion was "OK", but she was very happy.
We had bought them along with their noise reducing ear buds which I use while traveling in planes. I can wear them x- country very comfortably
Unfortunately we had technical problems and contacted JBL. I happened to email them on a Sunday afternoon and in about 15 minutes a real person (Josh) responded. A real person.... on a Sunday!!
He resolved the issue- which ultimately required a warranty replacement.
I cannot say enough good things about this company and Josh. I woudl buy their products again without hesitation
What a disappointment........2007-05-26
On my first foray into looking for the perfect mini speaker for my Ipod, I bought the Aiptek Mist for Nano (not realizing it only works with Gen 2 Nano)---boy, was it a cute little thing. Disappointed they don't make that product for Gen 1 Nanos, I searched Amazon for the perfect replacement mini speaker that would work with my Nano Gen 1. The JLab Miniblaster had 4 stars. Folks, speak up, because I cannot be the only one who was shocked by the low quality of this product!!
*When I first plugged it in, you couldn't hear anything because of interference from my TV remote!
*When I finally heard sound it was fuzzy at best and never got much better
*The volume level is only a smidgen better than what I can hear through my earbuds when they are out of my ears!
I read and re-read the direction and am convinced I did everything properly. I even tried it with battery power only, in the house, out of the house. No luck. This is a lousy product and I am giving it one star. This is being shipped back today.

Admittedly, I'm a fan of Altec Lansing products anyway, but this little unit was a terrific purchase for my daughter's iPod. Lightweight, simple but nicely manufactured design with good sound quality. Not a big booming sound capability, but this unit not marketed that way. Very good small/medium room sound, but lacks the power for capable outdoor use. I like the AC and battery power options. Came with a small IR remote, which works okay, but nothing spectacular. Easy to fold up and transport. Battery life is good, but not great. Liked the sound & quality of this iPod speaker well enough that I bought another Altec Lansing iPod speaker for my wife's iPod Mini. Very satisfied with both devices.
Altec Lansing IM3C - Excellent unit.......2007-10-27
Probably THE best battery-powered iPod speaker set on the market at time of writing. Sound is as loud and clear as 2W RMS speakers can deliver, and the battery life seems good.
Very small portable unit - works with all iPods to date.
Only two things that stop me giving it 5 stars:
The cradle isn't a true 'universal' cradle in that it will not fit ipods with skins [iSkin etc] on - you'll have to pop your pod out to fit in.
The remote control is a bit weak in range/direction/reliability but this isn't exactly the selling point of the unit
My unit did have a faulty power adapter included but they shipped me a new one no questions asked and I had it in less than a week - it works perfectly now. I spent some time researching these units, and this is/was the best.
I also have it's larger brother the M602 - that is probably the best mains-powered ipod speaker set out now.
A fabulous portable speaker system.......2007-09-27
The Altec Lansing inMotion audio system for i-pods is a fabulous, compact speaker system. the sound is incredible given the size and I occasionally use it at home when I am moving about the house or sitting on the porch. It is easy to pack and given the usual miserable radios provided in most hotels, it is a great comfort when travelling. It is easy to use once you figure out how to open it! The instructions, as usual, are poor and it takes some manipulation but once you hvae done it for the first time it's easy.

I was very pleased with this product simply because it has attachments to fit all iPods. The iPod I wanted to use for these speakers was the first model made and I was worried that many of the speaker systems would only work with the newer iPod models. This one works great and charges my iPod while playing which is great. I use it in my nursery and it is very compact with clear sound. I would definetely recommend this product!

Great Little Product for the iPod.......2006-10-15
Just purchased this inexpensive little unit and am amazed at the sound quality for such small speakers. It does just what it's intended to do - produce a very reasonable quality of sound from a portable unit. I had no trouble at all with the remote - it turns the unit on and off and controlled the volume and the iPod from a good 10 feet away. My only real complaint is that the instructions are woeful! Altec Lansing could do well to improve their in-box instructions which are far below the quality of the unit itself. I was almost ready to return my unit initially when I discovered - only by accessing Altec Lansing's web page for the iM3 - that I had to remove the not-too-obvious plastic dock adaptor that was already in place to put in my iPod 4G 60GB photo. Otherwise it is an excellent buy in my opinion and would be extremely hard to beat for the price.
IM3 IS AS IM3c .......2006-06-23
When I bought it couple weeks ago. I look out side the box is IM3, But inside the box speaker is IM3c. I call the company, they told me IM3 is as IM3c. They said someone on the internet sell the IM3 is all same with the IM3c, And IM3c also support the Ipod video too.
Basic, light weight, portable speakers.......2006-05-07
I bought mine for travel purposes and use the JBL On Stage more when I am at home. The JBL does sound better but I got a decent price on the Altec, it would dock and charge my ipod mini and also had the battery option. So I took it on vacation with me and it worked well but it did use 1 set of batteries per night. Thats 4 AA per night. Not exactly cheap.
I think that those who complain about the lack of battery options in other speakers do not quite understand exactly how many batteries they will be using. I was out of the country but I still wish now that I wouldve taken my "heavy" adaptor with me. You live and learn. I guess everyone has special needs, but in this case I can tell you 1 set of 4 batteries would last only 1 night.
So, these are a decent set of speakers if the price is right. Packs well for travel but dont expect mindblowing sounds as its just a tiny lightweight speaker system. Its ok, Id give it more of a 3.5 star if I could.

I am very happy with this product. It folds super slim, so traveling with it is a breeze! Pretty good sound - not Bose quality, but for the price, very respectable! I've had it almost a year, and it has been along on many weekend get-aways, and works great. I use it alot, so it was a good purchase for me.
