Customer Reviews:
Nice Hardware, Horrible Software and Support.......2007-06-12
First, the pluses: The simple elegance of this player, combined with amazing battery life, provide a product that's easy to use and nice looking.
The downside? Getting to that point where you can enjoy listening to music on this slick little player requires jumping through a bunch of intrusive DRM hoops that make you feel like you're in an accelerated course for a computer science degree.
See, Sony makes some great hardware, but they can't program their way out of a soggy paper bag. At the same time, their zeal for depriving citizens of their fair-use rights is unmatched. Put these two factors together, and you have SonicStage and the OpenMG format. "OMG" is right! I haven't seen anything this appalling since Sony started hacking its customers' PCs with rootkits.
The player can only play the OpenMG format, and all of your WMA and MP3s have to be converted (very slowly) before loading them. It never occurred to the SonicStage programmers that you might have multiple cores or processors, so don't expect them to help speed this process.
There's some crazy "authorization" process you need to do, providing some amount of private information to Sony, before they'll allow you to transfer your music, which you bought and paid for, to your player, also bought and paid for. Unfortunately, all I ever got from when attempting to "authorize" were error messages.
Luckily, they do have a really rudimentary piece of software, "MP3 Manager" that converts and transfers MP3s to unauthorized players. Imagine that, a simple little program to do the dirt-simple task of loading your player! It doesn't install a rootkit, take over every file association on your machine, or sell you Ricky Martin tracks. I highly recommend downloading this from the Sony support website and using it exclusively. Oh, it ain't pretty; it's still Sony software, but somehow it manages to get the job done.
If you do buy this player, I don't recommend trying to upgrade the firmware. When I did, Sony's firmware updater destroyed the player. After an inordinate amount of waiting and bickering with a few different Sony support agents, they did graciously condescend to replace my player with a refurbished unit for the low, low, price of $14.50
In the process of trying to get support, I tried to send email through their support website, but encountered a bug in the form submission! How's that for irony? Then after getting phone support, they sent a survey to me to rate their performance. Again, I couldn't submit that due to a bug. Nice work guys!
So, overall, if you can get past the hurdles put in your way by Sony's paranoid delusional programmers, it's a nice little player. Just be prepared for a headache.
Great sound quality, neat design and bright display........2007-02-10
It does not hold as much music as I would like, but it truly is worth it for the price. Also you cannot directly tranfer mp3's without the stupid software.
cool little machine.......2007-02-06
Ya know, you can spend 80 bucks on an ipod shuffle and not have very many songs or a screen, or you can buy this. Ive had one for ages and i love it. the battery life is fantastico, the quality is sony (i mean the highest on the market),and so many sweet little extras. you can have about 5 different screens (including bubbles),you can search for songs, artists, albums, and so much more WHEIL listening to your music.
sonicstage is so easy to use, and yet so advanced.DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON AN IPOD, BUY THIS INSTEAD. you will not be dissapointed,i promise.
Very nice and compact mp3-player.......2007-01-31
Sony is very great firm and they make very good things. This mp3-player i got for my birthday from my husband (as all other players).
That's very good good players. It have special software with it that helps you fast transfer all files from hdd to player and back.
It's nice and agronomic design, menu is easy for everybody.
The only two things that are "minus":
1. too easy switcher, sometimes it goes to easy
2. the sound it too low... if you use it on street - you need have very hi-bitrate songs and even then it's not a fact you will hear it good
But average mp3-layer is very good.
A Really Cool Gadget.......2007-01-16
I bought this walkman for x mas as a gift for my brother, and he loved it. In fact, my mom wants to buy one of this cool mp3 players, so if you need a really nice gift, buy this, I bet your relatives or friends will like it

Great little MP3 player.......2007-07-19
I have had this IRiver T10 player now for over 1 year. NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER. I use it daily for music and audiobooks while I work. It gets a jostling daily and it has held up nicely. As a matter of fact I purchased another one lately for my wife to use. I highly recommed this player.
GREAT PLAYER FOR OTR AND AUDIO BOOKS.......2007-03-24
I have searched far and wide for MP3 players which feature the "Resume" feature, sometimes referred to as "Bookmark." For those who are unfamiliar with the term, assume you are listening to an audio book or an old time 1 hour radio program. At any given point in listening to the program, you might decide to stop listening and turn the unit off. HERE'S WHERE THE I-RIVER SHINES. After the unit is turned off, most players revert back to the BEGINNING of the program. The I-River(And the Creative Zen Muvo units) pick up at the very word you heard when you shut the unit off! This is a very necessary feature for those of us who listen to old time radio (OTR) or those who are up to page 211 in a 300 page book!
iRiver T10: Great for the low price!.......2007-02-22
This mp3 player is great, especially for the functions you get at such a low price. I bought it 6 months ago and it still works great. Napster is another story though.
i River 512 MB.......2007-02-12
Bought for my 12 yr old. He wanted an ipod, this was much cheaper and it works great. Great sound, radio and we have used the voice recorder which is also great. Highly recommend this for anyone who loves music.
Truely portable, built like a rock.......2007-01-27
First of all, I'm not really a kid, I'm just lazy and didn't want to register. Anyhow, this is about the T10 not me.
When I got the T10 on Christmas a year ago I was a little disappointed, it only had 512mb of storage on it and I was pretty sure that wouldn't hold all my music. Well, it doesn't, but after more than a year of using and abusing this player I respect it.
First off, this thing is rock solid. I fell on it heavily while skating and was suprised when it wasn't broken. Friends of mine have iPods and are always extoling their virtues but when we go skiing no one brings their iPod for fear it will break. I have no fears, except that I'll get a T10 sized bruise if I fall on it.
The interface is also amazing. I can keep it in my pocket and easily skip tracks and turn up the volume with out looking at it. Some times I press the wrong buttons but my fingers are fat. The sound quaility, even with the head phones the T10 comes with, is amazing.
All in all, the only thing I don't like is the lack of storage space, but now that there is a 2gig T10, I'm going to get one asap. Forget the iPod, get one of these.

Customer Reviews:
Do not buy this........2007-10-30
This player can hardly fit any music in it and the one that I bought would make constant sounds when was used on the FM mode. Thus, it couldn't be used as a radio and neither it could store enogh songs to be considered an mp3 player.
Do not buy this.
It will last you 3 months tops.......2007-03-28
I swim almost every day for about 30-45 minutes. I thought it would be really neat to try to add music to my workout so I got MP120 as it was the only player under 100 at that time. First thing I noticed about MP120 was that the headphone wires were too much in the way and needed to be tucked under the swimming cap or wound around the goggle strap. Second and far more annoying problem was that the ear buds would fall out whenever I immersed in the water or tried to do a flip. So if you are only planning to use a kick board, this player may be great for you, for free style, [...] stroke, butter fly, or flips, I wouldn't recommend it.
After about 3 months, the water started getting into the ear buds and I noticed corrosion in and around the headphone speakers. It wasn't long before the left speaker started buzzing and the sound was seriously degraded.
The customer support for Oregon Scientific is absolutely of the worst kind. Long wait times, false promises and no records of previous calls are all too common. I called three times just to get a request in for a replacement ear buds. The person took the request, and said they would ship a new replacement free of charge since the product was still under the warranty. After three weeks I still haven't received anything. I tried calling the support again and after about 40 minutes of waiting I got to the same person I talked to the last time, however he had no recollection of me and was not able to pull anything on his computer, so he took the order again. I called again 6 months later and asked if they could try shipping the replacement since I haven't received it, but this time I was told my product is no longer under warranty and that I would have to buy a new MP3 player. Nice.
My next set will be Finis SwimMp3 Player which I have heard is superior in many ways.
Update (April 4, 2007): I did received a call from Oregon Scientific tech support on March 28 with an apology and a claim that they are commited on improving the user experience. I got the new set of ear buds the other day, and they seem to have a better design. For one, they don't fall out anymore and the sound is better. On the older set, the sound would degenerate when the cap was placed over the buds. The new head phones don't have this problem. I'm willing to give them another try.
It's OK........2007-02-17
I've been using mine for a year or so, and I like it. I did have to add some earbud caps that came off an old waterproof player in order for the earphones to stay in my ears. It works fine, but it is not terribly convenient to organize your music. There doesn't seem to be any way to set it to shuffle play, and the only way to organize a playlist is alphabetically by name of song. So I'm constantly having to rename my songs in order to get them in the order I want. I wouldn't buy it again, but if you get a good deal on one, it might be worth a try.
Don't buy it, even if you think it will be ok. .......2006-08-17
I read the bad reviews and knew what I was getting into but thought it would be ok. I was wrong. After two uses, the headphone connection started to go bad. If you tighten up the headphone bottom unit, to prevent water from getting into the unit, the headphone connection does not work. In my case, I loosened the headphone bottom unit just a little past extremely tight, to get the headphones to work, and water leaked into the unit. I have an extended warranty but it will not cover water damage. Nothing like a $100 paperweight. Having to remove and re-tighten the headphone bottom unit (to charge or download music) is this products downfall, because the headphone connection will go bad, like in my case, or you will not tighten the unit enough, again like in my case, and water will ruin the unit.
Think again.......2006-03-25
I would NOT recommend this product. It will not work well, causing more problems than it is good for. Look at another option!

Very user friendly!.......2007-11-01
This MP3 player is very user friendly and easy to follow directions for getting started. Also love the clip on.
good deal.......2007-10-04
This is my first mp3 player, I have to say it's been a good experience. With patience I figured out the program that came with it. (my biggest concern after reading reviews)The battery lasts forever and the sound is good, although I think I have noticed a skip or two lately, and the ear buds are painfull and short, get some new ones. I think this a good product for the price and does a good job.
NWE 505 a questionable package.......2007-08-08
I purchased this item to listen to FM radio or music while running. The wire for the ear buds are incredibly short, and so I clipped the unit to the collar of my tee shirt. Sweat got on the case and the thing quit working within 30 minutes.
This seemed like a fluke, since the device seems to be made for working out, so I returned it to Sony. At first Sony refused to repair or replace the unit, and wanted to refund the purchase price. I refused and they shipped another unit, which quit working in a similarly short period of time under similar circumstances.
At this point I gave up. Visiting my local Radio Shack later for another reason, I found that an FM radio with a two gig MP3 player (the NWE 505 has 512M) was available for about $40, cheaper than the NWE 505, without waiting for delivery. Works great, without the hassle of the Sony MP3 software.
Great for working out.......2007-07-25
I purchased this item over 6 months ago and it's perfect for the gym. I've dropped it on several occasions and a couple of times in the water fountain. It still works like a charm. I am very very hard on electrical equipment when I work out. The down side is that you have to really get your music from Sonic Stage, which isn't great. You have to down load music into it and then down load it to your player. Other devises you go from the cd right to your player. It takes a bit longer than necessary. The other problem is if you lose that clip devise that holds the player to your clothes while your work out, it can't be replaced. So don't loose it! The positives are that it holds a charge for a long time. I work out 5 days a week, 2 hours a day. I have to charge it once every month...maybe. It also has plenty of memory and it can hold a lot of music. It's well worth it. It's really better than a disc-man and it's not complicated to use.
About time.......2007-05-16
I have to say I was a little leary when I read the reviews of how bad the software was for this product. Then I read farther and found out that on the Sony site they have a link to put a better version of software on the player. So, I bought the MP3 player and let me tell you. The battery lasts forever. I dloaded the software. Moved the songs by dragging and dropping. And my daughter has loved every minute of it. Not one single problem. All this plus a neat screen. I cannot beat the price. Oh, by the way, I hate Ipod anything.

Swurv away!.......2007-09-26
I've had my Swurv5 now for 2 years and when I first got it, I loved it. Its very small, light weight and the fact that it doubles as a USB drive makes music transfer really easy (just plug in to USB port, computer recognizes it as another hard drive, and drop in your music). The reason I only give it 2 stars is for 3 reasons. 1.) It uses a proprietary cable. I lost it and could not find it anywhere, including on the support web site iclickdigital. 2.) The slider control is now broken on my unit after using it to navigate from folder to folder. I've been pretty light on the touch so to see that it is broken now is very discouraging. 3.) The support for this device is virtually non-existent. There are some chat rooms on iclick's website but no one could tell me where I could get a replacement cable. The bottom line is although out of the box, this is a great player, there are cheaper, more sturdy, and better supported mp3 players out there.
ok for the money.......2007-08-24
this player plays good but controls are hard to use it takes time to get use to them
Excellent mp3 player!.......2006-03-09
Bought this for my husband, he loves it; it works great, looks great, nice small size, highly recommend!
Excellent service.......2006-02-17
Had a problem with the device and and to return it. I no time I recieved correspondence from them and told me how to return the item. I received a brand new one and it returned to old one free of cost. The new item now works great. Thank you very much for your excellent service and product.
Cheap, Poor Customer Service, Faulty Software.......2005-10-12
First of all this is made of such cheap plastic it's ridiculous. Second it says on the box it works with Windows 98 but the driver files don't show up on 98 SE. Then their customer service is terrible. I've e-mailed 6 times in the past 3 days and haven't recieved any usefull help. They just ask me over and over what version of Windows I'm running.
I had this rush shipped so I would have it for vacation. Well, I leave tomorrow and the darn thing still doesn't work.

Customer Reviews:
First was good, second unit died in 10 minutes.......2007-01-27
EDIT: This was a 1-star rating - Amazon changed it between previw and save I think.
My wife was/is happy with our original unit. She's been running with it for about a year, and it has worked well. The only issue she has had was the headphone cable stripped out at the socket - something she blames on bad design. I personally think that the mini "joystick" is really hard to use, something that has been expressed on these boards already. However, the functions for this little player are really nice.
We purchased a new second unit. Prior to doing so, I re-read some of the reviews here, but just didn't believe that the product could simply die after a few uses. So I went ahead and purchased the unit anyway since our first has been reliable. The second unit died within 10 minutes of my first loading of music. First, I could not get the menu to come up on screen. Next, the screen disappeared all together. Third, the unit would not turn off (music kept playing). Finally it just died and the PC won't even recognize that it is attached by the USB cord.
It's hard for me to give this a 1-star rating since my wife has enjoyed it. However, it's a simple chip and flash drive. There is no excuse for the thing to die in literally 10 minutes (I'm really not kidding about the time). Since there are other stories about that here, the QC on these devices must be pretty horrid. Buy at your own risk.
RCA Lyra RD2215 .......2006-11-10
A decent buy for the price. This is my 2nd Lyra and I hope this one lasts longer then the 1st which got wet from sweat/drizzle. This one is supposed to be able to handle the moisture.
Easy to use. As of late, will not turn off--must remove battery to shut-off. Maybe it is a low battery.
Quit working after 5 uses.......2006-07-16
I had been very happy with this player until is just quit working in the middle of my run. I turned it on, the sound was off - like it was coming from somewhere other than the ear buds. Two minutes into the song, the sound is just a dull hum and that's the end of the story. I tried to re-set it by taking the batteries out, no luck. I tried to work with it through the computer, but the driver for it wouldn't even recognize it. The manual is lacking, it says replace the battery and if that doesn't work pay to mail it back for repairs. Thankfully I was able to return it for a full refund and now I'm searching for a more reliable player. I had only used it about 5 times when this happened. I'm very disappointed.
Great for mp3, far superior to many. Sucks for audible.com.......2006-06-08
I've been through a bunch of impossible players which don't allow folders. This is the sturdiest and best for recorded books EXCEPT audible.com (it simply won't go to "last position" playback for audible). I use other players for audible but THIS one is the balm for simply dragging and dropping album folders and book folders onto its flash drive. I've dropped mine dozens of times expecting it's gone and yet it always survives my abuse. Other players force you to interface with Windows Media Player etc. This one doesn't. It also has a non proprietary usb device AND and gets an impossible amount of usage from one AA battery. A dream boat of a unit.
Look somewhere else.......2006-03-03
Got this for my wife as a gift because she loves to work out with her mp3 player. Control stick was hard to use; rarely the direction you move it was the direction shown. HR monitor was completely off, showed a resting HR of ~160 BPM for a healthy adult. Would not recommend this product to anyone looking to for an mp3 player to work out with. Try the Zen Nano Plus or Sandisk players. They have armbands and are much easier to use, especially when running.

Nextar 570 MP3 Player.......2007-12-14
This is an amazing little player. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is the small amount of time it took me to copy my songs from my cds to windows media player, then drag them to a list, and presto one click and they loaded onto this player. (But the instructions could be alittle clearer.) But once you play with it, it is worth figuring it out ! GREAT sound!! I sugest a set of regular ear phones rather than the ear bud type that come with this. You do Not need the little cd that comes with this at all...at least not if you have windows media player on your computer.Windows XP has it, I think all the new windows versions has the media player that you can use to up load your favorite songs to this player. It holds about 250 songs. After I put my favorites on this player, windows allowed me to back up the ones I put on it to a cd,...So my favorites are backed up on cd's if I ever want to reinstall them witout resorting all my favorites from all the albums of cds.!! Great little Player, cheap price...I am 58 and if I can figure it out I'm sure you can too !!

Lame.......2007-01-04
I got it for my birthday exactly one year ago and right to the date it messes up on me. The button got stuck so now it won't turn off or on anymore.
It is extremely uses to use though but I never figured out how to use the FM tuner on it.
If it wasn't for the fact it crapped out on me I would've suggested buying it. Alas, the thing is just another cheap toy that didn't last.
Pretty good.......2006-07-22
Got this about six months ago, mostly because of the expansion slot. I have been using it heavily in Baghdad for three months now. Easy to load. Drag and drop from my PC right into the unit. Can also drag off unit onto a PC. Only drawback I have found is it plays the music in seeming random pattern, mixing the interally stored music with the music on the chip. Probably need to read the instructions, but I left them on the other side of the world.
Difficult to use.......2006-06-07
I have had this player for 3 months now and have been able to get 3 songs on it. I will be the first to admit that I am not the most computer savvy person out there, but I can usually muddle my way thru in order to get me devices to work. No luck with this product. I can only get it to transfer music if I am using Jukebox MusicMatch. But this program jams my computer so that I cannot get an entire song to download 90% of the time. I prefer using Rhapsody, but this player is not recognized by rhapsody. I have 3 songs on my player (which I don't know how I got them there) after hours and hours of trying. Would not recommend.
Do not buy!.......2006-02-27
This MP3 Player did not even last me a year. I use the MP3 player every morning to jog on the treadmill for approx. 30mins. About a week ago the music started to skip and jump around whenever the MP3 Player moves. This makes it impossible to listen to the music while running for obvious reasons. I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in. Powering off and on. Nothing is working! This player is not even 1 year old. I've never dropped it. It's never been exposed to water. I see no reason why this product should have only lasted me 8 months. Especially when I paid over $100 bucks for it!! DO NOT BUY!
