I received the Harmony 550 for Xmas, and having just installed a home theater which required four remotes, set it up immediately. My home theater setup includes a Sony HDTV (functioning as a monitor), two Humax TiVo Series 2 DVRs with built-in DVDs, a Denon A/V Receiver controlling built-in speakers, and a VCR. The software installation was quite quick on my Windows XP laptop, and the software led me through the installation so I had the basic functionality set up pretty quickly. The defaults were a bit lacking, as it doesn't deal with the combo DVR/DVD devices well; after initial setup, many basic buttons (like FFwd/Rew) weren't set up. This was quickly rectified by going into the software and customizing each button (probably took 10 minutes to do), and now I have been able to put all the other remotes away.
The Cons: if you are a TiVo user, you'll really miss the layout of the TiVo remote. I had programmed one of my TiVo remotes to do almost everything (turn A/V Receiver and TV on at the same time, control receiver volume, etc.), but there were still one or two functions it wouldn't do (set TV aspect ratio). Now I am missing the TiVo layout. The button layout of the 550 isn't well suited for DVR users -- the buttons you use the most are in an awkward location. For that reason, I'm contemplating getting the Harmony 670 which seems to be laid out better.
But overall, I would recommend this remote -- it's really nice to not have to fumble around finding the right remote for the right job! And the price is certainly right.
Harmony 550 Universal Remote.......2007-12-29
This is my third universal remote and the best so far. I also have an old Cambridge Audio LCD touch screen remote and a Sony RM-AV2500. I'm running a fairly modest set up which comprises a TV, DirecTV DVR, DVD player and surround sound receiver.
Pros:-
Very easy to set up using the online site - remote was fully functional after first download of codes although I'll be back to tinker a little with customization later
Comfortable in hand with buttons in sensible locations and easy to use with one hand
Great to look at (looks more expensive than it is)
Buttons and not an LCD screen - an LCD screen has to be looked at to be sure you are pressing the right button.
Cons:-
Button feel when pressing is a little cheap (somewhat plastic click)
Has frozen once (to unlock, remove one battery and replace - codes are not lost)
The online programming is a huge step forward compared with the Sony remote listed above which requires hours of programming to get it how you want it. The Sony is the only item of electronic gear that I own that I have to refer to the instruction book each time I need to change a setting. As noted above I have had 2 LCD type remotes previously, lured by the supposed high tech and more expensive looks. I ended up using my DirecTV universal remote more often than both since it was less cumbersome to use and can be used with one hand.
If you are looking for an easy to use universal remote that anyone would be comfortable using then the Harmony 550 is the one for you.
Rating would be a 5 except for the lock up. Still a great buy, well worth the money and strongly recommended.

I didn't need a flashy, multicolored screen, but instead, I needed something to use as I have quite a few components. This does the trick well, especially with the activities and help modes. And it does it cheap, much more cheaply than the other logitechs and muuuuch more cheaply than the overpriced monster universals. Programing special functions is a bit tougher, but I haven't spent much effort on it so it's likely not that difficult. The list of products you can use with this is very large and growing. A great buy.

Finally, a remote that actually makes our home theater system intuitive for everyone, including my wife and guests. No longer does she have to juggle three remotes and remember how to navigate the input menu on the TV, remember which input on the receiver is set to which device, or juggle remotes just to change the channel or the volume. Just press "Watch cable" and poof everything turns on to the right input. Same for Watch a DVD, or play xbox 360 (it will even turn on the console), etc.
For me the setup was fairly intuitive, although I have more computer experience than most. The software recognized all of my components from the start and so far I have not had a need to make it "learn" any commands from my remotes. After starting an activity the fact that the four buttons tied to the LCD display become "soft" buttons that can be customized for your most used functions that may not have a space on the remote is brilliant. These can be set up in multiple pages, allowing for additional commands to be programmed in that may not be used as often but are still important. Also, pressing the devices button allows for extensive control of a single device for getting into some of the more in-depth functions of a component.
The style of this remote is perfect for us - I have no desire for the gaudy full color screen or finding a place to set the charging cradle for the higher-end models and this one is classy and actually quite thin. Being able to just swap out the batteries when they get low is better to me than having to remember to set the thing on a charger.
All in all, I am very impressed and very pleased with this Christmas gift from my wife - although I wonder if it wasn't as much for her as it was for me!

The unit is doing a fine job with my new built computer with Q6600 and Nvidia 8600gts. It fits perfectly with Antect P180. One of the things I don't like is the plain box. Besides that, everything is great.

I bought this as a beefier replacement for my older power supply when I upgraded to a 8800 series graphics card.
Not a whole lot to say about it- it works. The large single cooling fan seems to keep temperatures cool, while making relatively little noise. I've been running it in my new PC for about 4 months and haven't had any trouble yet. I'm sure there are fancier power supplies out there, but overall, I feel this was a good purchase.

Optics and Resolution
The DS-550's 3-megapixel sensor captures ample detail for sharp prints at sizes up to 8 by 10 inches. For a serious amateur photographer, 3 megapixels is a great resolution, providing enough detail to perform some cropping and still have crisp prints.
The all-glass autofocus Olympus lens has a 2.8x zoom range that's equivalent to a 36-100mm zoom lens on a 35mm camera. Power
Power is provided by four AA batteries (alkalines are included). We recommend getting a set or two of rechargeable nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries and a charger. A digital camera will kill a set of alkaline batteries extremely quickly, especially if you're using the camera's LCD display, so they aren't recommended except in a pinch. To ensure you'll always be ready for action, we recommend having two sets of rechargeables so you can always have one set in the camera and the other set in the charger.
Movie Mode
In movie mode, the camera captures silent video clips at resolutions of either 320 x 240 pixels (up to 33 seconds per movie) or 160 x 120 pixels (up to 148 seconds per movie). Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on SmartMedia memory cards. The included 16 MB card holds approximately 21 images at the camera's default settings. SmartMedia cards are reusable, but if you tend to take more than 21 images per outing (or plan to use the video feature much), then you'll want a bigger card. A 64 MB card will store well over 100 pictures. With most cameras, the brand of memory card you use is irrelevant, but genuine Olympus cards have a panorama feature not found on cards from other manufacturers. This feature makes it easier to stitch together a series of pictures you've taken into a single panoramic photo, and may justify the slightly higher price of the card if it's a feature you plan to use frequently.
To transfer images to your computer, simply attach the included USB cable between your PC and your camera. Your computer should automatically recognize your camera and let you move the pictures to your hard drive.
Size
At 4.6 by 2.6 by 2 inches and 8.5 ounces, the D-550 is fairly thin and small, making it easy to bring along on outings--but it won't easily fit in your shirt pocket.

This review is based on three years of use and 3000 pictures:
*This camera is durable. The sliding cover and flip-up flash show now signs of wear
*haven't worried about keeping the lens pristine
*switched to rechargeable AA batteries early on and they still work. have to recharge them every 200 pics (get 158 exposures on the default setting on a 128MB card resulting in 700KB file sizes--enough for 8x10 pics!)
*use the default Camedia picture software (got the upgrade) exclusively for picture printing and decent editing
*software could use better 'templates' aside from 'happy bday'
*plugging in the camera to the TV video inputs and running your own slide show is great for family get togethers (especially at the end of a trip before you leave is a nice recap of family events)
*it's not a compact camera, but it's designed to hold well in your one hand to take pics
*find myself adjusting the 'gamma' up a couple of notches before printing out the pics
*night mode works great if you have a tripod

I guess if you are going for an older camera to save money, this isn't a bad choice, but I would recommend looking at newer ones. Like most electronic gadgets, they get better every year.
Pros:
- generally easy to use
- uses standard AA batteries
- no lens cap to lose
- software - easy web page publishing in professional version
Cons
- a little too big to be pocketable
- there are comparable cameras with 10x and even 12x optical zoom
- no stabilization feature
- lacks shutter-priority, aperature-priority, and manual modes
- difficult to impossible to get good pictures of indoor sporting events and other low-light situations where the flash does no good or you can't use the flash (actually, this is probably true of many other consumer-level cameras)
- slow reaction time - push the button and it takes the picture about a second later (or not at all if it thinks you need the flash)
- menus aren't explained very well in the manual
- software - version that comes with the camera is crippled, but the professional version freezes occasionally
Despite what somebody else said, backing up files to a cd isn't that hard if you know what you are doing; you just have to mount the CD so it looks like any other disk drive. I had no problems with this.
Anyway, I'd say spend a little more money and get a Panasonic with 12X zoom, image stabilization, and some of the other features mentioned above. You could also go for a camera with higher MP, but I'd rather spend my money on features that will actually help me take better pictures, not just bigger ones.

Photo's are good, but software ain't.
I've owned the Camedia 550 for a little over a year. I am very disapointed in the software that you HAVE to use with this camera. I upgraded to the "professional" edition, but it's still bad. It does not alow you to back up your photo's onto CD. (Floppy Disk Only, which is worthless). Also I have pixels dying on my viewing screen.
It is difficult to manuver through the options on the camera. Also uses a Smart Media Card, which the new ones do not use, and very few new camera do use, so I'll be stuck with $200 bucks worth of Smart Media Cards when I decide to chuck this thing.

I bought this camera a year ago; it has served me well in many different environments and in both nighttime and blazing sun conditions. Downloads are swift with either the 3.5 inch flash path floppy or USB. Picture quality is great at low compression settings, higher settings are even better. I use a 64 MB memory card and that is more than adequate for my needs. Battery life is impressive: one charge was good for a 2 week vacation, and that included at least one hour of time viewing pictures with relatives on the built-in screen. Easy to use. Documentation is a bit on the slim side, but sufficient, with the exception of instructions on taking a panoramic picture. Apparently, that info is on the CD. We've taken 1,200 pics or so, no problems.
great camera.......2004-01-15
I bought this camera 18 months ago, and it takes GREAT pictures. I have taken thousands of pictures with this camera with no problem. The two only drwabacks to this camera is its size and it takes a second or two to save the picture to the card, but that's the way it is.
On the other hand, the reason why it is so big is because it uses regular batteries=cheap! However, battery life is great.
Would recommend this camera to anyone who needs a digital camera.

Great card; get BeyondTV software to control it........2007-03-16
I have 2 ATI TV tuner cards in my computer. The software they ship with, other than the drivers, is crap.
My advice: Do not use the CD that comes with the card; download the latest driver for the card from ATI's site (ONLY the driver), and then buy SnapStream's BeyondTV software to control it.
Honestly, I do not understand why ATI doesn't simply partner with SnapStream -- their software is the best I've ever seen for controlling TV tuner cards. In fact, with BeyondTV and BeyondTV Link, you can record TV on one computer, and watch recorded shows or live TV on a different computer!

I got PowerColor's Theater 550 Pro (PCI-Express PAL version), which came with PowerCinema version 4. This is already a great improvement over the horrible version 3 that seems to be reviewed by most people.
However, the card is supported by various free and open-source media centers, like GB-PVR, MediaPortal en Meedio, which all provide superior quality compared to PowerCinema. So, don't worry about the software.
The hardware is just great. I don't have much experience with TV-receiver cards, but this one offers very good quality reception.

This is a TV card I used to replace my aged Lifeview FlyVideo98FM card, so I could watch/record (Trinidad & Tobago) games from TV during the world cup in June '06.
The TV quality is the best I ever seen from a TV card to date. Give that it is an ATI based card, this is really good stuff.
Unfortunately, the software package has let me down. The card came Bundled with Cyberlink PowerCinema. In day to day usage of my computer, I like to have the FM Radio function on. With the old card and 3rd party FM Radio software, there was no issues at all... With this new card, I often can't even load a webpage without the music sticking and stuttering - this on a computer with 1GB RAM and 2 hard drives!
I definitely blame the software for this. If the sticking becomes too much then the Radio stops altogether. I'm forced to close and re-open Power Cinema to listen to Radio again.
TV is at least stable while doing other stuff, but you can't shrink Powercinema down to a 320x240 window. also there is a 2 second lag between TV and computer watching the same TV station. This never occured with the old card. Intervideo's WinDVR used with this card had no such issue.
It's a pity I don't have XP Media Center Edition (XP Pro I have) to compare XP's Media Center software with Cyberlink's.. Somehow I think Media Center will perform better. WinDVR works better too, barring that the software currently has no sound support for the card.
PowerCinema works, but it's not very intuitive. The software is written for the novice user with NO advanced options at all. When recording, you do not know exactly what quality you're using outside of "good", "better" or "best". You can't even change the default recording folder!
I am sure that this occurs with other brands of Theatre 550 Pro cards, not just MSI's version.
As a side note, the remote that comes with the card works well.
In conclusion, It's a card worth getting if you can deal with PowerCinema's Issues, or find a better program to use with the card.
