Headsets Died.......2007-12-20
I bought five uniden headsets and, less than a year later, three consistently fail (i.e., disconnect, immediately run out of power though they've been charged for hours). I'm really disappointed with these phones and won't buy uniden again.

This is a fantastic add-on device for my exsisting system. Its not the color screen like the others, but its got the features to take advantage of. Like listening to messages, direct link, and room monitor.

I was a wireless communications engineer for over 20 years and I am always surprised when a commercial electronic item performs as advertised. This phone is great...I ended up replacing all of my more complicated (and originally more expensive) Panasonic phones with these. Admittedly the Panasonics were getting old but whatever .... I am a LONG time Panasonic fan and decided against them in favor of the Uniden. Good choice.
The handset occasionally gets an echo in it although I have not isolated the event to when I switch from the other line, pick up a call waiting or what...it does not happen during a regular call answer session. It is not a fatal problem - you can still talk - but is the only thing I have found "wrong" with the phone. It's even $10+ cheaper for this most recent standalone than when I bought the first one in April 07.

Setup couldn't have been easier. Just plug it in, let it charge for a day and then put the headset in the base unit for 5 seconds and it's registered.

The Uniden TCX800 is a supplemental handset for use with Uniden's TRU8800-series expandable phone systems (TRU8888, TRU8885, TRU8880, TRU8865, TRU8860, and the -2 version of these; excluding model TRU8866). It supports the same handset features found on your existing 8800 series system and operates on the same 5.8 GHz digital signal for clear calls and increased security.
The TCX800 does not require a phone jack for operation. It automatically configures itself to "talk" directly with your phone system's base unit. Each system offers a different specification on expandability and features, so be sure to check your system to see how many handsets you should order.
Handset features include caller ID/call waiting, speakerphone, conferencing, call transfer between handsets, four-line backlit LCD, tri-lingual display options, illuminated keypad, walkie-talkie capability, room monitoring, and distinctive ring tones.

I just purchased this phone to add to an existing three phone system we have. we have had the original three for a couple years and love thme. No problems at all, ever! The set is comfortable, clear, long battery life, etc... only good things to say!

I ordered additional handsets because the price of the phones were only slightly more than replacement batteries. I have had these phones for a couple of years and the batteries needed replacing so rather than buying replacement batteries, I purchased the entire phone. They work very well and I have been very satisfied. The additional handsets will come in handy anyway.

The Uniden 5.8 GHz cordless phone, for which this handset is an add-on, is the best cordless phone system I have ever owned. The voice quality is excellent. When I call my house, I cannot tell when my wife is talking on this phone compared to a wired phone. When I bought the base system, I was so impressed right away that I went back to the store and bought this extra handset to go with it. Battery life is good, the speaker phone capability works very well, and the handset is easy to set up right out of the box. Because this phone works on 5.8 GHz instead of 2.4 GHz, there is no interference with my 802.11g wireless network (note that 802.11a wireless networks, if you have one, DO use the same band as this phone and might produce interference. 802.11a is a much less common wireless network though.) If I had to list any nits with this phone, it is that the "Talk" button is too easy to activate accidentally, like when the phone falls between the sofa cushions. Overall though, I highly recommend this handset. One interesting note--you can use a pair of these handsets to communicate with each other. Just for fun, we tried that at a shopping mall. The range is not as great as with an FRS or GMRS radio because the frequency is higher and the power is lower, but we managed to communicate across maybe half the mall. Outdoors the range would be considerably more. This review is based on owning this handset for more than two years now; it has held up well over that time.
