Good home cordless phones!!!.......2007-12-26
This product has many features for the price. I had Uniden brand before and the Philips are really cool, speakerphone, ring tones, color display, small size.
The only point could be better is: it doesn't have more ring tones or the facility to download them to the phone.
Enjoy them!

Could be so much better.......2007-11-09
I prefer cordless phones so I have had a number of different ones over the years. This one is in the top half in ranking.
PROS: It looks more like a cellphone than a cordless. I have had many compliments from people about how sharp it looks and how much it looks like a cellphone since installing the Philips system. The color screen is very impressive. It even has a couple of games on it just like cellphones do. The sound is much better than my previous phone system, a Uniden system.
The answering machine system is easier to use and is accessible from any phone. The phonebook holds a huge number of phone numbers, 250, which is about 4-5 times as many as the Uniden system did. Tranferring phonebook entries between individual phones is very easy too, since the menu system is much easier.
There is a ring silencer button so when you don't want to answer but instead let the answering machine pick it up you hit the button and it silences the ring on all phones in the system.
CONS: My major beef with the Philips system is its very small number of ringtones available. The Uniden system has many more ringtones available and they could be individually assigned to particular phonebook entries. So you would know who was calling without having to read the caller ID. I am particularly upset that there is no "silent ring" that can be assigned to phonebook entries. With the Uniden, you could add an entry to the phonebook and assign it not to ring. This saves from having to pay the phone company for their "do not ring" service which is so limited (10 numbers) that it isn't worth having.
This could have been the banner feature of the Philips system if it had it because the Philips system allows you to assign phone numbers from your phonebook to one of three groups or allow them to be unassigned. Each group has the ability to have a different ringtone assigned to it so you could take one of the three and assign it silent ring if they had this and dump all of your 1-800 repeated sales calls or bill collectors to that group. Right now I try to find the quietest ringtone they have and assign that one to the third group and dump those numbers into that group but it still does ring.
The other cons are minor. The batteries are not that strong, using two AAA 750's I dumped those right away and put in 1000's, which last twice as long.
The screensavers are nice to look at but you can't add additional ones, or if you can I can't find out how.
The last negative point is that it is a little tedious removing calls from the caller ID list unless you want to remove all of them at once. In that case it is much easier than the Uniden since it is a single menu selection to wipe them all out. It was a little easier with the Uniden system to remove individual entries, though the capacity to store previous calls is larger with the Philips. Adding calls from the caller ID list to the phonebook feature is easier with the Philips, unless you want to change something about the name to be displayed. With the Uniden you could edit the name easier than with the Philips but adding the entry is easier with the Philips system.
So the bottom line is that if you have only a few people you want to store in your phonebook and don't care that much about sound quality, go with the Uniden system. If you have a lot of numbers to store and want super sound quality, but don't mind 800 numbers ringing you all day then go with the Philips.
I just hope they come out with a version with the silent ringer feature that Uniden has.
philips cordless phone.......2007-10-21
The phone was defective out of the box, so I had to pay to ship it to Philips for a replacement. To their credit, they did replace it, but I am out about three weeks time, the money I spent for overnight shipping when I ordered the phone, and the money I spent for return shipping. That being said, the new phone works fine, but the family all agrees that we don't notice any difference in the 'hi def' sound of the phone.
Philips Cordless Phone Review.......2007-10-20
Wow! This phone is great! Handset fits the hand, batteries are long lasting, viewing window is in color, so incoming numbers are easier to read. Color viewing window supports your own wallpaper, so you can personalize the image. The ring is distinctive and easy to identify from the other 4 phones lines in the house. Has an answering machine that I didn't even have to set up and using it was intuitive. This product is worth the money.

OK for DECT, poor display and Caller ID.......2007-11-23
I got one at the local Circuit City, as the only DECT phone w/o an answering machine I could find.
I agree with other reviewers: this is a marginal phone. The LCD blue-on-blue is very hard to read from a distance or an angle. The phone works fine, but the Caller ID on the remote handsets is very unreliable. It displays "INCOMPLETE DATA" about 70% of the time. I called tech support, getting the usual clueless Indian who worked from a script. I tried resetting the phones by disconnecting the battery, returning to factory defaults, and disconnected every other phone. Same result.
Sorry, Circuit City, this one goes back; Caller ID and readability are too important to me. I should have come to Amazon first and read the reviews!
Do not Confuse "Interference" with "Audio Quality".......2007-11-10
After moving into a house, I thought I'd give cordless phones another try, hoping the problems experienced in apartment life would not apply.
I bought and love AT&T's 2.4 Ghz cordless phone (comes w/ 2 handsets). The only interference I ever had was when standing next to the microwave. Other than that, callers could not tell I was on a cordless phone. The voices sound rich and natural.
Wanting to find an expandable system, the only one I could find where the price and features were right was this phone-- GE's "6.0". I even ordered extra handsets so I have a total of 4. To their credit, there is no discernable interference-- standing next to the microwave causes no change in audio quality. BUT, the audio quality to begin with is absolutely terrible. I find myself having to apologize to everyone I talk to after they complain / ask, "What's that noise?".
In conclusion, don't buy these phones. I stupidly unpackaged and recycled the boxes these came in or they'd be on their way back to Amazon. I now am back on the market for an expandable system, probably from AT&T. From what I read, GE just shouldn't be making cordless phones. They should stick to medical equipment...
Don't say I didn't warn you...
1980's-Style Memory Feature.......2007-09-16
I thought this would be nice phone that had the features I wanted, without a raft of useless "features" that would get in my way. That was true--the phone works quite well in almost all respects. It has one serious design flaw however: it can remember up to 50 phone numbers for you, but you have to manually store each of them in a numbered memory location. Want to call "Jane"? You have to either remember which memory number you stored her phone number in (was it #29? or #16?), or you have to scroll through all the memories in memory number order (NOT alphabetical order). Want to store a new number? First you have to scroll through all the memory locations to find a vacant one to store the new number in.
Come on, GE, I haven't seen a phone that worked this way in decades!
GE 6.0 is great!!.......2007-09-03
We love these phones! Light weight, easy to use, they look good too! My son bought these also we are all happy and the price is perfect.
Compared several phones - GE's audio very poor.......2007-06-06
I wanted a phone with the following features:
- didn't interfere with home WiFi network
- had a headset jack on the handset
- had a mute button
- had an answering machine
- could keep good quality while roaming 1 or 2 rooms away
I tried two sets of GE 6.0 phones, and both suffered from faint, tinny, clipped audio. Words that were perfectly understandable on other phones were simply not there on this one. Also, the buttons aren't actually lit - the light is a ring around each button, but not the button itself. So it actually makes it HARDER to read individual buttons in a darkened room.
I was very disappointed in this phone.
Of those I tried: GE, Uniden, Panasonic and AT&T, the Panasonic was the best. All features work, Panasonic audio is good, and the buttons and beeps are nice and responsive. Only complaint about the Panasonic is that there is no display on the base unit to show how many answering machine messages are waiting.

pathetic sound quality.......2007-10-02
I have not used this phone for SKYPE yet, but as a land line phone it is pratically worthless. The sound quality is so bad you can't understand what the person on the other end is saying. Do not buy this phone, at least not if you ever wanted to use it as a land line phone.
Not ready for prime time.......2007-08-26
I too was very disappointed with this phone. A phone is an audio device primarily. In this respect, this phone flunks. It's the worst audio I've heard in years. And it has nothing to do with skype which sounds great if I use it thru my computer or I conference in with my landline. It also has nothing to do with the small size of the phone. Even when I wore a good quality headset, it was still terrible. The quality is so tinny, I can barely understand the other speaker. They also complain that my voice quality is terrible. It also tends to break up and crackle. You would think in this day and age, getting decent sound quality would be a no brainer.
I was also disappointed that when you make a skype call, the contacts brought in from the computer display only phone numbers and not the name you set up in skype on your computer. I'm calling people, not phone numbers!
Other than that, it is fine. Set up was fairly easy. I like the fact that you can bring the second handset into the conversation via the intercom function. Unfortunately, I may end up returning it because of the terrible sound quality.
to bad no one at the support number knows what skype is.......2007-03-29
As a computer technician I have installed the software and set everything up and my phone says I am connected to skype (all though it can not read my contacts, I am told you have to manually enter them). I can not call out or receive calls even though it says I am on line and I am able to do it from the computer. I have been on line with support for over 4 hours now. Each time getting transferred to a new person, now I have the supervisor on the phone who like the last 8 people have no idea what skype is or have ever used it. Like the last 8 people he is reading the troubleshooting tips out of the manual and wants to know if the phone is powered on and is my computer powered on. The last technician was unaware this product comes with a cd or any type of software and the phone still does not work so back it goes, no one should have to go through this. the supervisor I last person I spoke to "tells me there is no one here that has used this phone before, we are unable to help you. I would suggest you return it"
Bad sound quility or no sound.......2007-02-18
1.When used with the land line I get a lot of hissing and the voice on the other end is very choppy.
2.When used with skype the voice on the other end is very quite and cackly and they can't hear me at all.
I'm very disappointed because I though this would be a good solution for me, especially after reading the review this phone received from PC magazines and editors choice aware.
I will be returning this phone. I would like to find something that works well with a land line and skype.
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.......2007-02-04
I purchased mine with a good price. It seemed to install fine, but it does not work with Skype, i do not care what anyone tells me, it is worthless.
A. The manual does not tell you how to get the sound to come through the phone.
B. It hangs up on Skype at random within 2 feet of the base.
C. You use the phone and then Skype on the computer goes off, and the person talks from the computer and you cant here them on the phone, or talk to them.
D. Tech states to set sound to USB, well that does not work, WinXP/Hone SP2 Win/XPpro SP2. IT will not work with USB period
E. When you can't use the phone no one will support you, and it will leave your Skype connected to your caller after you "End" call on hand set.
F. They lie about contacts, it puts the phone numbers in, and only skype accounts with not Skype in, will not show up. Only +15066608876 you will see in contacts. contacts on the menu is for your TELEPHONE NOT SKYP WORTHLESS
G. If you enter in your moms or friends number in the contacts area, it can't be dialed from skype.
H. You will not get a refund, try using it for fire wood, it will burn nice, just take out the battery.
THE PHONE IS JUNK!!! BUYER BEWARE DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PHONE!!!
YOU will have to leave your computer on 24/7 and not hibernate and wreck your computer to use.
GARBAGE, but what do you exspect from GE, they do not even have a tech support site, or knowledge base or a number you can call to resolve anything. NOt even a download site to fix the ALPHA SOFTWRE that it runs on
I am burned for $189.66 smackers!!! for a peice of garbage.
TRUST ME IT WILL NOT WORK, IF IT DOES YOU CANT HERE IT THROUGH THE STATIC!!!

Great Looks Mediocre Quality.......2007-10-18
On the shelf this looked like the one. Flat black and a good sized handset. I like having a headphone jack as well. At home the menus were hard to navigate and the connection had static. After a few days of use I'm afraid this one isn't up to the task. I went out and purchased the Panasonic and the sound quality is great... even if it does have a plain Jane aesthetic.
Nice phone.......2007-09-26
This is a great working phone, however, if you are big into reading caller ID this is NOT the phone for you. I bought it thinking it would be just like the Philips Dect phone I had in Europe but it is not. Sound quality is great, range is fantastic even using Vonage over Time Warner Cable internet.
I am sold on Philips Dect phones, just not the display screen on this one.
I returned the item.......2007-08-06
I was not impressed with the item instantly. So I am sorry to say I did not bother to explore every feature that it offers in order to give a complete review. The sound quality was average. The part the bothers me the most is the display. The font they use needs to be better, I can hardly read what it is saying. I don't have bad eyesight, but you have to scringe to figure out what the words are. That instantly turned me off. It does not work for me. The speakerphone is not loud enough. If you are put on hold and you're waiting for someone to come on line, you have to keep your attention to the phone because you may miss the other party when they speak up.
Caller ID makes this phone a FAILURE.......2007-07-07
The phone has some good qualities... sound quality is good, buttons are easy to use and not overcrowded, answering machine base is slim - doesn't take up much more room than a standard base. However, the caller ID feature is terrible. Only the caller name is displayed during an incoming call, and only the first 8 characters of that!! Often, all we see is "Maine" come up on the display. Thanks, that narrows it down to about a million people. The caller ID is one of the most important features and it fails to deliver. For this reason, I cannot recommend this phone and I am trying to find a replacement. Not sure whether to go with Panasonic or Uniden.
Philips 6. 0 Dect Cordless Phone.......2007-05-21
These are perfect cordless phone. Answering machine is also working well. And the hand sets are very small like Mobile phone! The range is also good, and the battery life is amazing! The features are also good.
I am very happy with the Philips phones!

Possible Health Hazard.......2007-01-06
DECT 6.0 phones do not operate in the 6.0 GHz frequency band. That would be illegal. The approved frequency band for DECT devices is 1.9 GHz.
In order to prevent interference, the FCC determines which devices are allowed to transmit within specific frequency bands. When a band reaches its traffic capacity, the FCC will usually open up another band of frequencies for use. The FCC has granted DECT-based wireless telephony permission to operate in the 10 MHz spectrum between 1920 and 1930 MHz as part of a general reorganization of frequency bands in the US.
Though newly approved in the United States, Digital Enhanced (formerly European) Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) originated in Europe in the late 1980's and is based on TDMA, similar to the GSM cellular system. Changing the "E" in DECT from "European" to "Enhanced" is part of a global marketing strategy and NOT indicative of any technological breakthrough.
The Wi-Fi friendly DECT technology is designed especially for areas with a large number of users and it easily integrates into homes with Internet and Wi-Fi services. A key advantage is that the 1.9 GHz frequency band is not used by other wireless applications. 2.4 GHz phones operate in the same frequency band used by other wireless applications. Because transmitting signals at a higher frequency requires more power, many 5.8 GHz phones use 2.4 GHz for handset-to-base transmissions to make sure a handset's battery has a reasonable life.
Cordless phones with spread spectrum technology (DSS and FHSS) will usually have a longer range and sound better than phones with DECT technology. FCC regulations (Title 47 CFR Part 15) allow higher transmit power for cordless phones with spread spectrum technology. Marketing literature touting DECT phones as having a longer range than 5.8 GHz phones, presumably, refer to 5.8 GHz analog phones which operate with lower transmit power.
Features for the GE DECT 6.0 phone include
Call Waiting Caller ID,
Handset Speakerphone,
Expandable to 4 Handsets,
Selectable Ringtones,
Room Monitor,
Intercom,
Volume Control,
Headset Jack,
Hearing Aid Compatible.
Shortcomings for the GE DECT 6.0 phone include
Noise during calls; poor sound quality.
LCD display very difficult to read.
Keypad light only illuminates each button's outline; the button's function is not illuminated.
No lower case and limited special characters available for Phonebook entries.
No alphabetic search for Phonebook entries.
No alphabetic store or retrieval for Phonebook entries.
No Phonebook transfer between handsets.
No Privacy Mode; any handset can conference in on a conversation without an invitation.
No support for Call Waiting Deluxe Features.
Memory limitations - No dynamic sharing of memory between features. Unused CID memory slots are not available for Phonebook entries. Unused Phonebook memory slots are not available for CID entries. Phonebook memory is limited to fifty 20-digit numbers with 15-character names for each handset. CID memory is limited to forty CID records for each handset. Redial call log retains only the last number dialed.
Some reviewers have complained of long time delays before dial tone is obtained when using DECT phones. This is a normal characteristic of the TDMA technology upon which DECT is based and should not be considered a malfunction.
Overall performance for the GE DECT 6.0 phone is below average. For a similar price, top-of-the-line phones with the latest technology and sophisticated features are available from Japanese manufacturers (e.g., Uniden, Panasonic).
A major difference between DECT phones and other cordless phones is that the DECT phone's base station continuously emits pulsing microwave radiation at full power as long as the base station/charger is plugged into the wall socket.
Officials in Germany, Austria, Sweden, New Zealand and Australia have expressed health concerns over DECT phone use.
Soon after DECT phones were first introduced in Europe, mainly for use in office buildings, concerns were raised over possible health effects. One of the largest white collar trade unions in Europe, the Swedish Union of Clerical and Technical Employees in Industry, issued advice to its members to take steps to minimize their exposure to DECT because the system always operated at maximum power and there was insufficient research on possible long-term health effects. (1)
The German Federal Radiation Protection Agency (Bundesamt fur Strahlenschutz - BfS) has expressed concerns over DECT phone use. They stated in a January 2006 press release that a DECT phone is often the strongest single source of microwave radiation in a private home. To prevent possible health risks the Agency recommended minimizing personal radiation exposure (if a DECT phone is used) by placing the base station in a place where you do not spend much time, for example a hall. For the workplace the Agency specifically advised to avoid placing DECT phones on work desks and called upon manufacturers to redesign the phones to include a feature of power output control, so that the power output during a call would be adapted to the distance of the handset from its base station. This would allow phone use only to the level of power necessary to keep the communication going and power would be down while on standby and connected to the base station/charger. (2)
In December of 2005 the Public Health Department, Salzburg Region, Austria issued advice to the government, schools and parents warning of the lack of studies available on either short-term or long-term health effects from WLAN and DECT devices. Furthermore, the department saw evidence of possible adverse effects such as headaches, concentration difficulty, restlessness, and memory problems. The official advice of the Public health Department is not to use WLAN and DECT in Schools or Kindergartens. (3)
Of course, the industry manufacturing DECT technology says that there is no conclusive evidence that DECT technology is harmful. This is true, considering that the technology is being developed and marketed well before any relevant research on possible long-term health effects.
1) NO Risk in the IT environment, the Swedish Union of Clerical and Technical Employees in Industry, 1998.

Buy a Uniden - it's cheaper and works better too!.......2006-12-17
I purchased this phone along with the extra handset only to be extremely disappointed. We allowed it to charge the mininum hour time as stated in the manual - it didn't make a difference with the phone quality. From the first use the sound quality was horrible. I could barely hear the person on the other end of the line - regardless of them using a landline or cell. I turned the volume up, which only made the problem worse and then created an additional 'feedback' problem regardless of where I was in the room - when I spoke, the phone would make a soft sound as if I was too close to a mic. We did give the phone the benefit of the doubt - we double checked our battery connection, phone line connection, power source connection - we even changed to a different phone jack in the house and it didn't make a difference. Another note - the phone is set up to prevent sound interference, yet another feature that doesn't work as any time the cell phone rang across the room and you were on the cordless, it would buzz in your ear. Our old phone worked perfectly fine on the same line - so obviously the problem was the phone - maybe it was a defective phone, I don't know but I took it back to WalMart and traded for a Uniden - Nice thing about that was I got the extra $50 difference to pocket for a Uniden standard with three handsets and it works GREAT!
Lot of promises, but so very deceiving - Don't worth the hassle.......2006-10-23
I was very excited about this new phone system and all the wonderful features. I waited for weeks, then rush on the internet. Having use it for few days, I am quite deceived:
- The sound is so-so, it is sometime hard to understand people talking. Setting it to high make a slight "hum"
- The handset display is nearly unreadable, too bright with too thin fonts.
- Setting the phone is quite complicated (as compare to my former Panasonic)
- There a lot of frill options, but some other lacking (setting the display light for instance).
- At every power failure, the answering machine to be reset (how modern!),
- The speakerphone sound is "humming"
So, it is far from the description on the box.
I'd rather go for a 5,8 technology and another ... and wished I had buy it at Wal-Mart, so I could return it hassle free. But I didn't.
