I plugged it in to the phone lines & it found our old panasonic phones. I was able to add it to the intercom system as the next number.
Great Speaker Phone.......2007-10-14
Panasonic is one of the few companies today making a 2-line corded phone with a decent speaker phone. When my 17-year old Panasonic KX-T3155 2-line phone developed excessive static, I decide to try out other brands to see how they stacked up. I bought GE, RCA, and AT&T models, but wound up returning them all to my local Staples, OfficeMax, and Circuit City stores. The speaker phone feature was implemented terribly on all the models (muddy sound, low volume, cutting out when no one was talking on the receiving end, non-functional mute buttons, etc.). If you use the speaker phone feature as much as I do (waiting on hold for customer service, conference calls, etc.), then this is the phone to get. I knocked off one star in the ratings because there is no light for the mute button (like on my old model). Instead, it just displays "Mute" on the LCD. FYI - For some reason, this model is not carried by virtually any retailer (and very few online websites), so that's why I used Amazon.com.
Not practical.......2007-04-15
I am usually a big fan of Panasonic products but this telephone is disappointing. I have had it for a number of years now and here are my main complaints:
- The display is hard to read because it is not backlit and the contrast cannot be fine-tuned very well. It is either too much or too little. The display part also does not tilt, so depending on the light in the room the user will have to make an effort to see the display at a suitable angle.
- There are only three buttons to store frequently dialed numbers. Way too few!
- Scrolling through the display to find a number is tedious and not user-friendly.
-There is also no way to delete all received calls from the list at once (at least I haven't found it). I have sat at this phone forever to delete these one after another after another...
I do not like this phone and wish I had paid better attention when buying. I can only recommend to anyone looking for a new phone to make a list of all the features they want and then check thoroughly whether the model in question has all of them. I didn't and ended up with this phone which annoys me daily...

The only problem I have with this phone which is why I only gave it 4 stars is that when it's mounted on the wall the handset is not properly secured and tends to fall frequently. I've had to replace the handset because of this.

I bought this phone to replace a 10+ year old Panasonic model KX-T3175. This phone is equal in all features carried forward, and has attractive new features like built-in caller ID, intercom, and headset capabilities that make it superior. My LCD display is plenty bright, and contains more information than my previous set.

Nice phone, but has problems.......2007-11-15
I just got the phone a couple days ago, and it's a nice looking phone with pretty easy to use features. The handset is solid and the keypad is comfortable. I like the lighted buttons in particular. The caller ID actually works unlike my last Panasonic phone that only stored the missed calls and didn't display the number after I picked up. The display is easy to read and using the 4 lines is very easy and intuitive.
Unfortunately I think I may have to return the unit. The problem the other reviewer mentioned about the delay in dialing is indeed irritating, but not a deal killer for me. The problem I have is that the Panasonic KX-TCA60 headset I had worked fine for my other panasonic phone, but the mic didn't work on this one. Tech Support pointed out that it's not on the list of compatible headsets for this phone. So I bought another headset that is listed as compatible. (both have standard 2.5mm jacks and are both Panasonic brand) The new headset works, but only with a mid level hissing whistle sound whenever in use. I tested the new headset on another phone and there was no problem.
I work on the phone all day and need to type and move quickly on 3 computer screens all at once. I HAVE to use a headset. And I don't want to go crazy with a hiss in my ear all day.
Also, using the speakerphone didn't work all that well. We had to sit close to it and talk into it for the caller to hear us.
The last thing I'll try before sending it back is to put a backup battery in it. The display constantly shows "Low Batt" since there was no 9 volt included and I haven't gotten one yet. Maybe, something in the circuit needs that battery even when plugged in to work properly. Yet another little irritation.
Keypad has Annoying Delayed Response to Key Presses.......2007-08-25
Panasonic has a design flaw in this unit, which is unfortunate, as it is the best looking 4-line corded phone on the market and is otherwise an excellent phone. The problem is that once the hook is released (or you switch from from one line to another) when you then immediately get a dial tone, it takes approximately an additional 1.5 seconds for an audible tone to be heard from any number keys you press. You an easily press anywhere from 4 to 6 keys during this lag period, during which time you hear nothing. Then it catches up and starts dialing, although still at a slower rate than which you originally pressed the keys. Our our four lines, on the first three we kept our original, trusty FIOS lines, and on the 4th line we put a VOIP line. Same problem all lines. We had another jack where we had plugged in a new Panasonic 2-line phone (KG-TX6700) and the phone worked normally to key presses. We plugged the 4200B into the same jack, but the same delay as before occurred. We bought a second 4200B - same problem. We believe the problem probably exists on the 4100 and 4300 phones as well.
We went out a then bought our less preferred AT&T 4-line phone (Model 974) and it worked like a charm. The Panasonic problem exists on at least two types of phone networks - Verizon's FIOS (fiber optic) phone lines, as well as on Verizon's VOIP service trademarked as Verizon Voicewing. I am not sure if the problem exists on the old copper line networks, but if you try this phone, be sure to test it.
The other thing to test is how you use this phone. If you typically pick up the phone and don't dial until the phone is at your ear (i.e. as opposed to dialing immediately with the speaker phone), then you might not see this as a problem, as it takes about 1.5 seconds to get the phone off the hook and up to your ear, and by that time, the dial tones will respond immediately. However, even then, if you switch back and forth quickly between lines to get a quick dial tone - then you will have the problem.
Otherwise, great phone, but re the above - buyer beware.

I bought this phone for several reasons: the call-waiting and phonebook display, 70-number capacity, 20 one-touch buttons and other advanced functions. Unfortunately, out of the box, many of these touted features were broken or unavailable.
I first had trouble setting up the side one-touch buttons; you are supposed to program it so pressing the Shift button allows a second row of numbers to dial. I tried for several hours to program the shift-button (second set of) numbers, only to find the first number programmed for that button was erased when I did so. Customer support said that programming has changed and the manual was not updated to reflect it. Uh huh.
Next, I have call waiting, so during several calls I pressed the Flash button to switch lines. It did not switch at all, so I held down the line switch (where you hang up the receiver) instead. Perhaps the Flash period is too short for my phone network to notice...no matter, the feature won't work for me.
Of course the most important feature, aside from speed dial, is the speakerphone itself. I'll make a call and be on hold, and turn on the speakerphone. Instead of hearing a continuous stream of sound from the other line, the speaker cuts in and out randomly with times of silence. I thought it was the phone reacting to ambient noise in the room so I turned off the radio and covered the mic holes, but this did not appreciably change its behavior. Having some pop song from a call on hold pop in and out 20 times a minute is horrible, and sometimes I can't even tell if I'm connected.
I ordered this phone from the Amazon affiliate, but unfortunately it's more than past the return period. Sure there's a 1-year warranty, but I don't even know who will service it or if these problems are fixable. And it's hard to find a 1-line phone with similar features at any price, not to mention a scarcity of reviews for this type of phone unit. So I'm gonna take this phone out of service as soon as I find something better...and I may buy one only from a store that I can demo the features in personally -- I've been burned often enough!
Great Office Phone With Minor Quirks.......2007-07-27
I purchased this telephone for my home office. I work in I.T., and this phone definately looks high-tech and professional. It offers a somewhat business look for a lot less money than a high-end business telephone. I received the product quite quickly and had the phone setup and configured in roughly 10 minutes. Installing the batteries wasn't as easy as one may like but I figured I should only have to change them about once per year anyway. The phone is quite light and has a very plastic feel to the main unit. However, the receiver feels quite solid and the incoming sound of the phone is very good. I do notice a slight echo of my own voice, in the receiver, when talking on this phone. It's nothing too distracting though. The backlit display is a great idea and once of the reasons why I chose this telephone. I have to admit that I am a bit dissapointed with the display though. The backlighting tends to wash out the LCD data on the display, especially if you are looking at the display from a slight distance or from an angle. The speakerphone produces good sound at an adequate volume but could stand to be a bit louder. My biggest complaint, other than the washed out LCD display, is that the number buttons don't always seem to activate the tone if pushed lightly. I have to concentrate on pushing the buttons firmly in order to get all of the digits entered properly. This is sometimes a frustration when entering in digits for an automated telecom system, such as retrieving messages from a voicemail system or accessing an automated response system over the phone. I have gotten used to it though and it seems like less of a problem the longer I have this phone. I did accidentally hang up on someone once, even though I had pushed the hold button. That button also requires a slow, firm push to engage at times. I have learned to wait for the little red LED light up, indicating that the hold feature is active, before I hand up the receiver. Overall I am quite pleased with this unit as a desktop phone. Sure there are some minor quirks but the main functionality of this devices is quite sound. It has great looks, very good sound quality, and a host of features that are typically found on telephones of higher cost. I have noticed a fairly wide price range for this particular model so it pays to shop around on-line. I nearly bought it from a place that was charging $12.00 more for it (plus shipping). Now that I have had this phone for a few weeks I feel it is safe to say that I would recommend it to most people for their home or home office needs.
