I understood this phone was a 'rebuilt' and accepted it as I felt it would be 'better than new'. Was not. Messages coming in were either garbled or fading in-and-out. Both extremely annoying and unacceptable. Not a happy camper.

I'm not sure if the previous reviewer has a different model or not but there is indeed a flash button. Once you are on a call is the left menu button on the LCD screen. Those who are quite familiar with cell phones will spot it quickly.
I haven't had the phone for more than a day but so far i'm fairly happy. It took a while to find a phone with all the features that I needed but this has them all.
Pros:
1) Base station with speaker phone (hate it when i can't find the cordless)
2) a MUTE button! Very few phones have this these days but it is very important for my home office.
3) 5.8 GHz that won't conflict with my wirless.
4) cell phone like features (customizable ring tones, phone book, "missed calls list")
Cons:
1) The caller ID isn't very smart, even if you have the number stored in your phone book it still shows/says the name that is given over the callerId resulting in a lot of "Cellular Caller" type of stuff.
2) The center rocker switch activates the menu instead of the phone book. This time cell phone users will find this counter-intuitive.
3) No handset speed dial. There is one for the base, but one not the handset.
NO FLASH BUTTON ON HANDSET!.......2006-04-08
I bought the KX-TG5571 and an extra handset after being so pleased with it's
predecessor KX-TG5471.
The 5571 handset does not have a FLASH BUTTON!
What you have to do instead is press the speakerphone button, wait for
options to appear on the screen and then press a different button to
access the FLASH function and there is NO WAY to figure that out while
looking at the handset.

I finally received this phone from amazon yesterday after waiting 11 days from order date. I found the box to look as if it were old and the phone itself was not wrapped as if it came directly from the factory. I believe it is a refurbished phone even though I paid for a new one. I paid $52.85 for this phone and tonight I see the same phone from amazon listed at $34.99. What is wrong with this picture?
You need to KNOW how to program the phone to get it to work to its optimum level........2006-06-02
This phone CAN be programmed to say the name of the caller and then show the phone number ... it has the CW feature so if you are on the phone and get a call, the name and number of the caller will show up, thus giving you a chance to either pick it up or call back later. The sleek design makes it ez to hold and the speakerphone is a great feature when your hands are bz (as in cooking).

The talking caller ID only gives the name and not the number, so a call from someone you know (eg MOM back in Podunk) is just like the call from the magazine salesman -- "out of area" is all you hear. You can't program the caller id to recognize the number as "MOM". Voice quality is marginal. So that people can hear your recorded greeting, you have to shout into the microphone, which is too directional. But on sale, it's worth trying as perhaps a second phone on the line.
Bad Phone.......2005-05-16
This is our second Panasonic phone. They have both had multiple problems. After a year of constant problems our current phone (this model) has finally died (for no good reason). We have had problems since day 1 - with the most common being 5-10 second gaps in reception about every 15 minutes of use. Minor but very iritating. You would think if they can make phones that get reception off a satelite that getting reliable reception on the couch would not be a major engineering hurdle. I would not buy another panasonic phone.
Don't buy any Panasonic products anymore........2004-09-30
I used to think that Panasonic products meant quality. However after buying this phone, I am very disappointed with the quality control at Panasonic. The unit looks okay but after I charged the battery and tried to set the base unit, the handset failed to communicate with the base. It kept giving the same error "No link to base. Place on cradle and try again." again and again. The manual says to go near the base, raise the antenna etc. I was trying the setup with both the units practically next to each other. Panasonic support was the worst. They couldn't help at all and wanted to insist that the unit was fully functional and it seemed like I was doing something wrong. Since the unit was purchased more than 30 days ago, I had no option other than to scrap it and purchased a Uniden phone.

This phone has every feature I was seeking - cordless, speakerphone in both base and handset, digital answering machine and "talking I.D. The quality overall is very good - sound, range, ergonomics. I bought this phone at a discount as a "repackage' and it looks and works like new. The talking I.D. is a great innovation. Although numerous calls come in where no name is available, the telemarketers all come in as "Call from out of area" so we no longer have to bother with them, which by itself is a gigantic plus. The occassional absence of names and/or numbers for calls from "legitimate" callers is not the fault of the phone but of the non-standardized practices of the different phone companies. They need to get their act together. The only drawback is that the "talker" sometimes mangles the pronunciation of certain names. However, even here, once you hear the "mangled" pronunciation a few times, you can identify the caller. The next big advance will come when this phone design is upgraded to allow YOU to record, in your voice, the names with the numbers of your most regular callers. All in all, this is the best phone I have ever owned.

We checked out several cordless phones and this Panasonic model seemed to be one of the better ones with somewhat above average sound quality. Although it's not nearly as good sound quality as the old style Bell corded phones that no longer exist.
This model has a lot of features and the instruction manual is quite lengthy; in some ways it's a little too complicated for a telephone. If you happen to choose one of the "wrong" options, you wind up having to push a small button to answer the thing when you pick it up off the console instead of just picking up a ringing headset and hearing something with no buttons to push.
Overall this phone not bad considering the price and it does include a decent answering machine.

The phone works well but I bought a new phone and I think I received one used as it had five messages for someone named jerry and the phone had some marks on it. As I sent it to a friend who was on US and he brought it to me to Argentina I could not change it for a new one.

This is an excellent and full-featured cordless telephone and answering machine. It has many handy features and a digital answering machine that works very well. The sound quality is good, though I think that the handset could be a little bit more ergonomic for listening, but that's a minor flaw. What I like best is having a speaker phone both in the base and in the handset, extremely handy if you are waiting on hold and need to move away from the base phone.
I've been buying Panasonic products for years and have never been disappointed in either their features or their quality, and this phone is no exception to their excellent standards.

We have bought several of these phones at my work, and they have all exceeded our needs. We have a 2-story 10,000 sq ft concrete building, and the phone reception works anywhere I walk within the building, and out to the far reaches of the parking lot. It does not interfere with our 2.8 ghz wireless networking (to be expected), and offers some great features.
For example, my coworker needed to leave his base station at my desk but work upstairs. The phone can be configured so that the base ringer is silent, while the handset ringer is loud. This lets me work without being bothered by the ringer.
In addition, you can record your own ringtones and assign them to callers in your phonebook. It's a great addition to the included talking Caller-ID feature, especially for vision impaired users. At home, I have recorded special ringers for friends, so I know at once when they are calling.
Clearly, this model and the model with included answering machine are the best of the current Panasonic 5.8 ghz phone offerings.
Great Phone .......2006-03-21
I researched phones before I bought this one. We've had it for about 8 months and love it! My favorite feature, though silly, is that I can change the ringer. When I get a new favorite song, I change the ringer :o) We had DSL and the phone worked perfectly with it. We switched to cable modem as personal preference, but I can tell you that we had absolutely NO problem when we had DSL. I'm so glad I did all the research before deciding on this phone!

The ability to switch between handset and base speaker phone with a smooth transition is lovely. Most cordless phones hang up your call when you put the handset back on the base station, but this one does not. When your battery is low on the handset, you can hit the speaker phone button on the base, place the handset back on the base and continue with your conversation seamlessly while the handset recharges. Thank goodness for "Digital Duplex Speakerphone". I am not sure what that means, but I will never look back!
This is perfect for the call that never ends, and you know what I mean by that! There's no need to get a backup battery or handset to have 'just in case'. Other than all that, this phone is cute, functional, and won't take up much space on your desk
My only wish is that it shipped with a headset, but those are easy and cheap enough to get a hold of.

While I had high hopes that this would be the ultimate phone for my home office, I am still seeking perfection.
Pros: cordless signal is clear and reception is fantastic, plenty of features, does not interfere with my 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi, has proven reliable after ~6mos of use
Cons: speakerphone is too quiet, headset jack is not designed to work well with standard headsets (even when I use a top notch cell phone headset people complain that they can't hear anything)

Overall excellent phone, great sound quality, love the base dial pad keys, functional, easy menu options, one touch voicemail button, etc. Perfect little phone for your desk! The only changes I would have liked to see would be a LCD display on the base unit dial pad, and make the phone handset a little bigger with bigger buttons. The handset is somewhat small if you are like me and like to press the handset between your shoulder and head while having your hands free to shuffle papers and take notes while talking. Excellent phone, I give it 4.5 stars, would give it 5 stars if handset was bigger, but that is just a personal preferance.

Phone works very well. It has an answering system included;however, I have a mailbox with my phone co. which works great and I didn't want to change it. The only problem is that I don't know that I have a voice mail unless I pick up the phone and turn it on. That is really the only problem I have with the phone.

I bought this phone system to replace a Uniden that barely lasted 3 years. My older (12 yrs old) Panasonic still soldiers on, so I figured I'd give Panasonic another try.
What I like the best:
LIT KEYPAD!!!! Need I say more?
Separate REDIAL button- no having to go thru menus to redial a number.
NiMH batteries- not fussy about HOW and WHEN you charge them.
Speakerphone that is super versatile- going back and forth between line and intercom is a breeze.
Menu system is very intuitive and makes what programming you need to do easy.
Phone feels good. Good size, nice buttons.
What I don't like: Nothing. No negatives.
Nuetral comments: A sticker was on each piece of this refurbished phone system. They came off easily. One handset had a minor scuff on one corner. Whatever. No problem for me.

I purchased this phone to replace a top of the line V-Tech phone. The V-Tech had an awkward cylindrical handset and what seemed like less then solid build quality. In addition the answering machine messages were poor quality recordings.
The Panasonic has been great. I bought the unit refurbished and the only reason I'd give it 4 stars is the package was a bit thrown together. It was as if I was shipped a product filled with individual pieces taken from boxes or rejects. All the handsets had barcode stickers on them which were a pain to remove. Everything works fine but several had scuffs and looked well short of new so if you're expecting a new open box return, you might be disappointed.
That said, the phone and answering system work great. The handsets are smallish so if you have large hands you may find them a little awkward but they're solid, have great range and work great. They have a good feel in the hand. They're pretty much the same handset you see on any of the current 5.8GHz Panasonic phones. With 3 handsets, I don't really care that the system is not expandable. It's not worth paying $100 more just for the ability to add one more handset. I'd highly recommend this phone.

So far so good. We were a little concerned being remanufactured but it's working like a charm. You can actually set up a different ring tone for all your main callers, so you know who's calling even before the audio caller id states it. You do have to set up your ring tones and your address book on each phone seperately - this is a little bit of a hassle, but bearable. I LOVE the speaker phone, it's wonderful! The keys aren't too small or too big. It's a great buy and we have no regrets. I definitely recommend this phone system - it's the best one we've had so far!

Unplugged the phone and moved it to another location, after 3 or 4 years of use. Got the E3 error. Panasonic confirmed that it's a problem with the phone that can't be corrected by the user. They stood by their 1 year warrantee, despite the fact that it's a built in design defect. Wanted to charge me $80 + tax and $10 shipping for a replacement or $95 for a repair.
3 or 4 years isn't really that bad a lifespan, but I suspect that I would have had this problem a lot sooner if I moved the phone earlier. In any event I'm buying another phone. In my experience cordless phone quality is terrible in general.
This Phone's Been Great!.......2007-01-10
I inherited this phone 2 1/2 years ago from my elderly Mom; like some others here, she too found the initial programming confusing. At first it was a challenge for me too, but I soon got the hang of it.
The features I like most are, of course, the Talking Caller ID--great for screening junk calls (not always the best pronunciation, but it's limited by the number of characters available on the screen). Reception's been crystal clear even 100+ ft. from the base(I've sometimes used the handset upstairs in back of the house, with the base downstairs at the front. And, the 50-number phone book's been invaluable for my needs.
Guess our WIRED cable internet has kept me from computer interference some have mentioned. Even after power outages, I've only need to re-program the time & date. My only complaint now is the handset number keys are getting hard to press(that's happened to me with other phones too as they aged); and repairing or replacing that is so pricey the better bargain was upgrading to the 5.8Ghz KX-TG5671. Panasonic's been good to me, so I'll still trust it for the future!

Do not buy this Phone. Panasonic has poor customer service and they do not have any troubleshooting information on their website.I called support and they said they need to send the phone to their repair center and costs $90 plus ..which sucks...

Phone was working great for over a year - a VERY brief power outage later, phone dead with E3 error and a bunch of blinking lights....Phone was plugged in power surge protector and wll other electronics still work fine....checked the reviews here and surprised to find out I am just one of the many victims of this E3 error!!!

This phone stopped working exactly after a year. I came to know there is some problem with the mother board. I wanted to replace but the price was equivalent to the cost I purchased.
I lost trust in Panasonic products and their service and stopped buying there products.
