Great Phone for the Elderly.......2007-12-23
This phone has been wonderful. It has enabled my mom, who is in a nursing home and has Alzheimer's, to be able to have a phone and call myself and my brother who lives out of state. She says "they can take anything but don't ever take away my phone". I put pictures in the memory spots so she doesn't have to think about anything, all she has to do is press our pictures. I'm so happy that I found this, It's truly been life changing for my Mom!
P300 Phone with 18-dB Amplification.......2007-12-09
Excellent choice for people that are in need of more than just a regular phone when you have hearing problems!!!
We have one of these mounted on the wall in the kitchen and my wife Loves it since she wears hearing ads and this phone is in fact for people like her with hearing problems. You have nine places you can post a picture of the person/s you call the most, then program that Picture/button for that phone number, so all you need to do is press that picture to call that person, sure makes it nice when your in a hurry!!
Works just fine, as described.......2007-10-19
I was a little skeptical about purchasing this product based on other reviews that cited technical snafus, but since my need for big buttons as well as big speed dial buttons outweighed the potential problems, I bought it and it has worked for my mother exactly as described.
Great product for the price........2007-06-08
This telephone has really helped my elderly father. He especially likes the 'light up' feature when the phone rings. Also, he can increase the volume to where he can hear it. After pricing other similar phones, I was leary because of the relative inexpensive price; I think it is quality equipment.
A unique product with just ok quality.......2007-01-19
I purchased this as an xmas gift for my grandmother, who has Alzheimers. While the concept is good, the execution is a little off. The phone feels very cheap, and I imagine it won't hold up to too many falls off the nightstand. The worst problem, however, is its lack of battery for memory -- it loses its programming every time it's unplugged!
A smart company would produce a similar product with a higher standard of quality and make out like a bandit.

Very pleased.......2007-10-17
I ordered the phone for my grandpa who has hearing loss. He loves it and can hear better on it than talking to him in person.
Excellent for older person with hearing loss.......2007-09-18
We got this for my 95 year old great aunt. I wish we'd gotten it years ago, it makes a big difference.
Ameriphone XL40 Phone .......2007-01-09
This phone was purchased as a gift for my father, who cannot hear as well as he once could. I set it up for him and installed it. Setup was easy, including programming of numbers. THe phoe works well, and I think he hears better because I find I am not repeating myself as often.
Ameriphone XL40 Phone .......2006-11-10
This item was purchased for my elderly aunt who had a serious problem hearing me on the phone. It has been amazing how effective this phone has been. She no longer asks me to repeat anything and the controls are easy for her to operate. I should have purchased this long ago.

Easy product to use, much easier phone conversations.......2007-10-10
I purchased this phone for my dad, who has hearing aids (and always seems to be having problems with them) and is in a nursing home. For an older person who may have trouble figuring out phones with lots programmable buttons/features, this phone was a really good choice. The phone had features that I wanted (easy keypad, speed dial buttons, volume control, amplification/clarity features), but not lots of extras that I know he either won't use or understand how to use. The speed dial buttons are easy to figure out (a family member programmed them for him) and are helpful for him, since he finds remembering numbers (or locating them/dialing them in) difficult. The best part of this phone is that I can now have an almost normal conversation with him, whereas before we used to spend a good deal of time repeating ourselves, then sometimes giving up. In fact, I was pleasantly shocked to have the first conversation with him and find that instead of asking me what I said, he just continued right on with a reply to what I was saying! I do wish it had a speakerphone feature, but the fact that we can have a normal conversation makes up for that.
Ameriphone XL 50........2007-09-09
I tried several phones for the hearing impared and did not find a satisfactory one till I purchased the Ameriphone XL 50. This is a product that certainly meets my needs. I can highly recomend it. Very easy to set up.
Good Phone.......2007-07-13
I bought this phone for my dad who was significant hearing loss from nerve deafness and old age. He is deaf in his right ear and has about 30% of his hearing in the left. He can hear the phone ring easily and likes the big buttons. He can now talk to my four-year-old niece on the phone with no difficulty. Which is great because she lives in Canada and he doesn't get to see her very often. This is a good product.
Review of Ameriphone XL50 Phone.......2007-06-16
The phone does amplify; but you have to balance the tone with the volume or you'll end up with a very garbled amplification.
Works great with a neck loop.......2007-03-10
This is an excellent phone for the hearing impaired. A couple of minor complaints. There are three ringer settings but no on-off switch. And the audio jack requires a 1/8" mono plug. If you use a neck loop with this phone (with your telecoil switch), you will have to get two Radio Shack adapters if you lose the one that comes with the phone.

Okay phone but missing some critical features.......2007-07-19
I bought this phone for an elderly relative who is both hard of hearing and has memory issues. While the phone does amplify adequately, it requires you to push a boost button every time you receive a call in order to turn on the amplification. This was not acceptable in our situation nor was it mentioned in the description of the product. I called the manufacturer and they told me that their higher end models have an override capability in which you can leave the amplification on permanently. This phone also does not have any speed dial buttons. I had to return this phone and get a different model.
Pros & Cons.......2007-06-19
Pros: Great for elderly - loud ring, large loud buttons, light flashes when rings, amplifies incoming sound, hangs on wall in kitchen (minimal space), easy to use, person on other end can hear you perfectly
Cons: There's a bit of an echo or something (probably with all that amplification) that you hear a bit of yourself. My parents say it's ok, but I want them to have a great phone. They love the other features.... so it's kind of a toss up...

Great phone, except..........2007-11-07
This phone is more than loud enough, that's for sure. It also has all the features you would expect, except for one whose absence renders the phone almost useless. I'm referring to a simple mute button. Let's say you're talking and you have to cough or clear your throat. No mute button, so you put your hand over the mouthpiece to muffle the sound. Well, if the boost is on (which is why you bought the phone in the first place), covering the mouthpiece results in immediate, ear-piercing feedback, which both you and the other party can hear. How could a phone that has all the bells and whistles be missing a mute button? How much would it have added to the price of the phone, $1?? So now I'm having to order a headset simply because it has a mute button. But guess what? The phone has a 2.5mm headset jack, which is typical for a cellular phone, but not a regular phone. So your choices for headsets are severely limited. The manual recommends the Plantronics M110, but that's a monaural headset, not binaural, which I prefer. It's also been discontinued. I just ordered a headset from amazon, but the ad strangely doesn't specify a brand or model number. It does say it's been discontinued, so it might be the M110. Either way, it's ridiculous to have to do all this just to have a mute button. I wish I would have returned the phone and gotten a regular phone with a mute button and a good binaural headset, which would have allowed me to hear just as well as the boost feature.

Major Design Flaws.......2007-07-13
The buttons are huge, but if you press them anywhere but in the exact center they don't work. Talk about frustrating! Also, the other reviewer was dead-on: sound quality is terrible. Plus, the answering machine cuts off phone messages after ten seconds.
Don't believe the hype about this phone!.......2006-10-02
I used one of these for about 2 years before a lightning strike finally gave it a death blow. The phone, as designed, has serious deficiencies. As claimed, you can dial up the volume, but it is not clearer as advertised. Think in terms of a very cheap speaker turned up to high volume. The louder it is the more difficult it is to understand.
The answering macine barely worked when it was new. Messages were often garbled to the point of not being understandable. A glaring design flaw is that there is no way to pick up your calls from a remote location. You can't call in and get your messages. You have to go to where the phone is located to hear the messages. This falls into the realm of, "what were they thinking,' when they designed the answering system. What if you're 500 miles away and want to call in for your messages?
It has large buttons, which is a good thing, however, they are more difficult to push down than other phones.
Look elsewhere for a phone and anwsering system. This phone has a high price for what is really a very cheaply built product. Amazon is to be commended for not having this product available (as of this writing). I expect that most would be returned.

A little bit louder now.......2005-11-20
I purchased the Clarity w1000 to overcome the noise from a room air conditioner. It usually worked adequately for this task. However, sometimes or perhaps often a little more volume would have been useful. On my phone line, increased volume quickly turns into quite a bit of noise and hiss. This is more annoying than straining to hear the caller. My Panasonic KX-TG 5421 cordless phone with voice enhancer turns out to work better than the w1000. I probably should have returned the w1000.
unbelievable.......2005-08-27
Try to find a corded phone is difficult these days. I actually found the Plantronics / Walker W1000 phone at WalMart in Rice Lake, WI (715-234-6990) for $34.88. Brought it home, plugged it in and tried it out. Seems to work great. This version of the product is documented as offering up to 26dB amplification. Elsewhere on amazon i found the W1000 with 33dB amplification, so perhaps I purchased a 'remaindered' version. I could not find the W1000 on the WalMart website.

Sticky Buttons.......2007-03-19
Purchased this phone for my in-laws to replace an older phone. within a month the buttons started to stick. Would only dial one number when I returned it. Volume seemed to be good and without roar with a hearing aid. Speed dial function a little to complicated for the elderly, plus the lack of a lighted dial makes it difficult for those with low vision to see the buttons.

Don't waist your money.......2007-10-31
Bought this phone as a birthday gift for my Mother. Worked for two months and then she couldn't hear anything in the receiver. We got her a new receiver but now people can hear her only very faintly when she talks. I wouldn't purchase from them again and wouldn't recommend their phones.

phone for the hearing impaired.......2007-09-24
I purchsed this phone for my elderly mother who is hard of hearing and wears a hearing aid. It helped a lot with the volumn, but not much help to her in deciphering words....there are still words she can hear but cant make out. This phone professed to help in that area, but I see no progress there. If I talk to her on this phone, she cant hear me any better than the regular phone I replaced. The buttons are large and helpful, and it has a booster button for her to press to make the phone louder at any time, but its the making out of certain words that it claimed it would help, in which it did not. Not worth the money (109.00) should have been more like 49.00 or less.
